The band have toured internationally and in 2015 they won the Vanguard category of The Progressive Music Awards. publicservicebroadcasting.net Robert Moses (December 18, 1888 – July 29, 1981) was an American public official who worked mainly in the New York metropolitan area. Known as the "master builder" of mid-20th century New York City, Long Island, Rockland County, and Westchester County, he is sometimes compared to Baron Haussmann of Second Empire Paris, and was one of the most polarizing figures in the history of urban development in the United States. His decisions favoring highways over public transit helped create the modern suburbs of Long Island and influenced a generation of engineers, architects, and urban planners. This simultaneously bold and bland building housed the State of Illinois pavilion, featuring Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. The winkin' blinkin' Lincoln was a sensation. A Message From The Manager of Radio Free Disneyland it's a small world (presented by Pepsi Cola for UNICEF) was also staged in a modern building. Rolly Crump's Tower of the Four Winds presaged the the playful look the Disneyland alliteration would take on. Ford Motor Company's Magic Skyway got the "skinniest" relocation to Disneyland after the Fair. Walt Disney had fought Cast requests to build a new administration building at the Park, but gave in when it involved making a home for the Fair's dinosaurs to be seen from the Disneyland Railroad. General Electric's Carousel of Progress had the most successful relocation of all the Fair shows. Playing at Disneyland and then at Walt Disney World. Jim Michaelson Depicted Trains, Adventure, and Culture Waves © Disney and Jim Michaelson Imagineer and Disney Parks poster artist Jim Michaelson, responsible for posters for such iconic Disney attractions as Country Bear Jamboree, The Walt Disney World and Disneyland Railroads, and Pirates of the Caribbean, has passed away, according to WDWNT and multiple reports. A couple of posters that Jim did before his Disney tenure recently caught our attention while planning this episode. Jim had indeed dabbled in the Milieu of Milhous (President Nixon's middle name) earlier in his career. And, he is even responsible for a classic Jefferson Airplane poster, seemingly straight outta "the Height." Jim has of course done many posters and place setting art for the Disney Parks, but probably none as well known as his Disneyland Railroad poster, and its' similarly arranged descendants, depicting other Disney rail lines around the world. This political poster for Richard Nixon's 1968 presidential election campaign shows the presidential hopeful in the foreground with his running mate, Spiro Agnew behind him on the right. There are images of celebrities (such as Clint Eastwood), sports figures (Wilt Chamberlain and Bart Starr), politicians (Ronald Reagan), and others are in the background, as well as Nixon's daughter and a group of young people who carry placards. Jim was also responsible for a series of imaginative place setting work at Disneyland Paris, that ties Main Street U.S.A with Discoveryland. They look like friends. Photo © Time/Life Two disparate show business figures seemed to fall into a concentric orbit during a unique period of Hollywood history. One, was a man of the dusty road who brought the sensibility of depression era America to the mainstream. The other, became thought of as one of the country’s homegrown geniuses. His name began to embody a brand of American commercial artistic creativity. One man was Burl Ives, the other was Walt Disney. Both exuded Americana. Both made personal political decisions that somewhat singed their historical images. The choices they made involved their testimony before The House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). Each individual that was called had a difficult decision to made. These two men made essentially the same choice. Burl Ives began as an itinerant singer and banjo player. By 1940, he had his own radio show where he performed the versions “of record” of hobo and road songs. He popularized the Irish war ballad ’Foggy Dew", the minstrel tune ”The Blue Tail Fly" and "Big Rock Candy Mountain" a song celebrating an idealized version of the Hobo life. Ives also performed with the Almanac Singers a folk group which at different times included Woody Guthrie, and Pete Seeger. By most measures, his biggest hit over time is version of the 17th-century English song "La...
