In this powerful episode of the Driving Change Podcast, host Jeff Bloomfield sits down with NFL legend and championship coach Bill Curry, a man whose humility rivals his accolades. From snapping the ball to Hall of Famers like Bart Starr and Johnny Unitas to learning life-shaping lessons from coaching giants like Vince Lombardi and Don Shula, Curry opens up about the moments that molded him—on and off the field. Curry reflects on his transformation from a reluctant football player to a Super Bowl champion, the locker room conversations that taught him the true meaning of unity, and the quiet forgiveness that changed his life forever. What happened when a young Bill Curry faced off against the legendary Ray Nitschke—and lost? And what did Vince Lombardi say to him on his deathbed that still echoes in his leadership today? You'll have to listen to find out.

This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.golongtd.comIt's time for everyone to take Sam Darnold and the Minnesota Vikings seriously. Kevin O'Connell just may have some “special shit” brewing.Optimism is high in Wisconsin, too.Somehow, the Packers have coasted to a pair of victories with Malik Willis in and Jordan Love out.Let's get into everything for another marathon podcast with your pal, my pal: Hall of Fame scribe Bob McGinn. We open with general MNF banter. I was at Highmark Stadium for the Bills' punishing win over Jacksonville, while McGinn watched Washington-Cincinnati. A full Vikings-Texans breakdown begins at the 10-minute mark. The Aaron Jones Effect has been real in Minnesota, and we discuss why Brian Flores' defense is special. The Vikings' ability to pivot out of the sort of disaster that ruins organizations is impressive, though McGinn cites a few flaws in Darnold's performance that could come back to bite. Packers-Titans analysis kicks off around the 41-minute mark. Jaire Alexander's pick-six was a game-changer, we're both very high on running back Emmanuel Wilson and what about that pass rush? With eight sacks, the Packers attacked in waves — Kingsley Enagbare, profiled here, was a force. Detroit Lions talk commences around 1:07:40. Yeah, they won. But injuries are piling up. How will the Lions adapt? It wouldn't hurt if James Houston, profiled here, decided to come on like he did his rookie year. The secondary's play is a worthy silver lining. As always, we cap with a “McGinn Memory.” Bob's got another doozy from Bart Starr's coaching career at 1:32:30.Full audio (above) and video (below) is available for our paid subscribers.A membership gets you access to all episodes of the “Ty & Bob Pod” and “How the NFL Works,” in addition to all features, columns, and community features here at Go Long. Thanks, everyone.

JERRY KRAMER BIO Jerry Kramer overcame a series of childhood injuries to become an excellent football ball player at the University of Idaho. The guard was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round (39th player overall) of the 1958 NFL Draft. He starred for the Green Bay Packers from 1958 to 1968, playing most of his 11-season career under the direction of Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi.Upon his entry into the NFL, he soon was hailed as one of the best blockers in the game and earned his first All-NFL acclaim in 1960, the same year the Packers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL Championship Game -- Kramer's only career postseason loss.He continued his high level of play all while overcoming several debilitating injuries. In 1961, he missed several games due to a broken ankle that required a permanent pin to heal. Then, in 1964, he missed most of the season due to intestinal infections from wood splinters in his abdomen that required eight surgeries to rectify. In each instance, he returned to All-NFL form.Kramer played 130 games as the Packers guard and served as the team's placekicker for several seasons. His leadership and talents helped the franchise capture five NFL championships and victories in Super Bowls I and II.At the time of his retirement in 1968, he held the NFL Championship Game record for most field goal attempts in a game (five against the New York Giants in 1962) and the Packers' team record for most PATs in a season (43 in 1963).He earned All-NFL acclaim five times (1960, 1962-63, 1966-67) and was voted to three Pro Bowls. Kramer was also named to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1960s, the NFL's 50th Anniversary Team in 1969 and the Super Bowl Silver Anniversary Team.Get the book here: https://www.amazon.com/Run-Win-Packers-Lombardi-Canton/dp/1637273002

Bob Barry's Unearthed Interviews

Are you ready for some football? It's that time of year. The Pack opens the season Sunday against the Chicago Bears. One of my all-time favorite Green Bay Packer players was Bart Starr. Among his many football accomplishments, Bart led his team to victory in the first two Super Bowl games. He was named MVP in those games. His record in post season was 9-1. His career completion record was the best and he held the Packers' franchise record for games played: 196. Bart was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Packers Hall of Fame. He and his wife Cherry were married for more than 60 years. They helped start the Lombardi Cancer Foundation and co-founded the Rawhide Boys Ranch. In this podcast we'll hear from Bart in his playing days, when I interviewed him at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation Golf Tournament and then on the phone when he was starting his coaching career with the green and gold.

Episode 136 There is a series entitled “A Football Life” on the NFL network on cable television. One of the programs in the series includes a two-part episode about the legendary football coach of the Green Bay Packers in the 1960's, Vice Lombardi. In part one, in an episode entitled “Lombardi Saves the Franchise” there is an interview with the late NFL Hall of Fame Packer quarterback Bart Starr. Mr. Starr indicated that in of the very first meetings after Vince Lombardi took over as head coach of the Packers,  Coach Lombardi walked into the meeting and said: “Gentlemen, we are going to relentlessly chase ‘perfection.'  Knowing full well we won't catch it, because nothing is perfect.  But we are going to ‘relentlessly' chase it, because in the process we will catch, ‘excellence.'  I am not remotely interested in being just, ‘good.' ”   Vince Lombardi as recalled by Bart Starr. However, is this hierarchy and philosophy outdated, a relic of the 1960's, or is it still relevant today? What is your edge of chasing perfection? Stephen Lesavich, PhD What do you think of Coach Lombardi's philosophy about chasing perfection and his hierarchy?  It is realistic for your professional life?  Is it realistic for your personal life? Ken Bowman was the primary Center on Vince Lombardi's last 3 Championship teams. Those Packers are 1 of only 2 squads in NFL history to win 3 straight titles, and the other was over 90 years ago. In the legendary Ice Bowl game, he was a key figure on one of the most heralded game-winning drives in NFL lore, and he and Jerry Kramer teamed up to make one of the most iconic blocks ever, paving the way for Bart Starr's go-ahead touchdown. The Football History Dude is part of the Sports History Network - The Headquarters For Sports Yesteryear.EPISODE SUMMARY****This is an FHD Vault episode (ep. 143), originally aired on 11/18/2020***This week I interview Bill Curry. He has lived an incredible "football life" as both a player and a coach. His life has even been referred to as the "Forrest Gump of the NFL" by some. For instance, he played for both Vince Lombardi, and Don Shula. If that's not enough, he was the center who snapped the ball to both Bart Starr, and then Johnny Unitas. Bill played in the very first Super Bowl. He won a total of 4 NFL championships and Super Bowls. He played in the famous Super Bowl III "Broadway Joe" game. Bill was an early leader with the NFLPA. He was the head coach at Alabama. These are just a few of his "stops" on the Forrest Gump journey, but the number one thing he shares is how he learned about teamwork and how football shaped his views on racism.Read the entire episode blog post and check out some other cool info regarding this episode here.Check out Bill's book - Ten Men You Meet in the Huddle: Lessons From a Football LifeTHE FOOTBALL HISTORY DUDE BACKGROUNDThe Football History Dude is a show dedicated to teaching NFL fans about the rich history of the game we all know and love.
