This week, Ashley tackles a topic that many of us deal with every day...the black superwoman mask. She talks with Tiaera Pritchett, who graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Social Work. In 2014, Tiaera appeared on the local news to bring awareness to a group therapy program she piloted for victims and survivors of sexual assault and abuse. A month after her segment on the news, Tiaera began to speak at conferences and appear on panels in cities spanning from Georgia to New York -focusing on anti-bullying; illiteracy; violence against children; PTSD; communication and the stigma of mental health. Unintentionally, those opportunities would spark a creative idea changing her long-term vision of what it meant to be a therapist. Tiaera has a heart for people and finding solutions to evoke change in people’s lives, -especially those who don’t view or take mental health seriously. This fueled the birth of Truth Moment- a weekly web series that discusses an array of mental health topics -that plague many of us today. “Due to the stigma behind seeing a therapist, many don’t seek counseling and in-turn internalize their thoughts and emotions, -becoming easy targets for depression and anxiety”, says Tiaera about a common misconception regarding psychotherapy. This deficiency made Truth Moment a necessary tool to help break down that barrier. The first episode of Truth Moment aired on YouTube in December of 2014, and to date Tiaera has covered possibly every topic you could imagine… in hopes that you see yourself in them.
