The 2019 Dallas cowboys season didn’t pan out the way many predicted it would. Heading in to the season, Dallas was looked at as favorites to not only win the NFC East, but to potentially make deep playoff run. Needless to say, those expectations quickly diminished after an up & down season in which the Cowboys finished with an overall record of 8-8. Dallas couldn’t generate any consistent momentum throughout the entire season in which they had two 3 game losing streaks and even dropped a must win game in week 16, for what was basically for the division crown, against hated rival and eventual division champs, the Philadelphia Eagles. Ultimately, Dallas would miss the playoffs and Jerry Jones would make some major changes going in to the 2020 off-season.Long time head coach Jason Garrett was relived of his duty as head honcho for big D and will be replaced by former Super Bowl winning coach, Mike McCarthy. McCarthy sat out the entire 2019 season after being fired by the Green Bay Packers. Him and his new coaching staff, which includes OC Kellen Moore and DC Mike Nolan, hope to re-establish a new winning culture in Dallas and wash away any bad stench that the former regime may have left. One of the major questions for Dallas going in to this off-season was, “Will they pay Dak Prescott”. Dallas answered that questioned by franchising their young QB and are pretty much putting him in a "prove it” type situation. Dak’s numbers weren’t nothing to sneeze at in 2019. He threw for over 4,900 yards along with 30 TDs and only 11 INTs. And although Dak’s overall numbers were great, critics still came at him for his lack of ability at pulling out wins in high stake games. Dak’s supporting cast should be awesome in 2020. He’ll be surround by superstar talent, starting with All-star RB Ezekiel Elliott. Zeke had terrific 2019 season as he rushed for another 1,300+ yard season, along with 54 Receptions for 420 yards and 14 TDs total. Dallas receiving core should be one of the top pass catching units in the entire NFL. They were able to resign their pro bowl WR Amair Cooper to a new 5 year $100 million contract, making him the 2nd highest paid receiver in the NFL. His running mates will be 3rd year receiver Michael Gallup, who quietly put up a 1,000 yard season, and rookie 1st round WR CeeDee Lamb, who many experts believe was the best overall receiver in the entire 2020 draft class. Future Hall-Of-Fame TE Jason Witten signed with the Las Vegas Raiders and will be replaced by Blake Jarwin.Dallas offensive line should be entering 2020 fully healthy after taking some bumps all of 2019. Left Tackle Tyron Smith, Right Guard Zack Martin and Right Tackle La'el Collins are all elite players at their respective positions. The only two positions of question on the Great Wall of Dallas will be at Left Guard with Connor Williams and Center, which was previously manned by former All-Pro Travis Fredrick, who retired this off-season.On defense, Dallas posses some very talented players on all three levels. As it stands now, the Cowboys have just one definite, reliable edge rusher in DeMarcus Lawrence. His production did dip in 2019 with only 5 sacks, mainly due to a nagging shoulder injury. He should be able to regain his pro bowl form with a clean bill of health. Dallas did lose his pass rushing partner in Robert Quinn (Signed w/Chicago) and will rely on the services of previous stars Randy Gregory and Aldon Smith. The Cowboys did address the middle of their D-line with the additions of Defensive Tackles Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe. Both were effective interior presences for the Panthers last year and should continue to be quality run stuffers. The Strength of this Dallas team is with their awesome Linebacking core. Leighton Vander Esch, Jaylon Smith and Sean Lee former one of the best trios at LB in all of football. Baring injury to any one of them, they should be able to wreck havoc on Sundays and be a disruptive force. In the secondary, Dallas took a major blow with the loss of star corner, Byron Jones (Singed w/Miami). He’ll be replaced by second-round pick Trevon Diggs, who has some very big shoes to fill. He'll be accompanied by a cornerback group comprised of Anthony Brown and Chidobe Awuzie. They’ll be shadowed by solid safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.Top to bottom, the Dallas Cowboys have one of the top teams on paper. Once again, they’ll be heavy favorites to come out of the East and potentially make a deep playoff run. The questions that must be answered for this Dallas squad will be mainly about Dak’s ability to win the big games and Mike McCarthy’s ability to galvanize a football team. How does Bryce and Rueter think this season will pan out for this 2020 Dallas Cowboys team!? Find out on this edition of SYE Quick Hits!
With it being the 4th of July, the day in which America officially gained it’s independence from Great Britain, the guys at SYE decided to follow theme on this weeks episode. There are several great players around the world of sports who are currently in terrible situations. We see it everyday, Franchise’s will have awesome, generational type talents on their teams and will completely waste away their talents with mediocre supporting cast and crippling front office decisions.Or hey, maybe its entire city that has been plagued by a cancerous franchise for decades at a time. Ether way, a lot of this situations can be resolved in one way and one way only… GIVE THESE PEOPLE THEIR LIBERATION!On today’s edition of SYE, Rueter and Bryce will discuss which players they believe must gain their independence from their current situations!
The Philadelphia Eagles had a very up and down 2019 season. Injuries would be the main factor as to why that was. Franchise QB Carson Wentz Finally reminded healthy throughout an entire 16 game schedule, but had little to no help when it comes to his supporting cast. Injuries decimated Philly’s receiving core and running back stable. DeSean Jackson played only 3 games, Alshon Jeffery suited up for 10, Nelson Agholor suited up for 10. It got so bad that at one point, Carson Wentz’s was LITERALLY throwing to practice squad players as his #1 targets! Somehow some way, Carson Wentz was still able to throw for over 4000+ yards, 27 TD’s and only 7 INTS; helped keep the train on track, and ultimately guide this franchise to an NFC East division crown. Philadelphia should be entering the season 100% healthy at receiver and will also have some new toys for Wentz to throw to! They acquired WR Marquise Goodwin and drafted speedster WR Jalen Reagor with their 1st round pick. They still have one of the top TE tandems with Zach Ertz, who is a top 5 TE currently, and Dallas Goedert. They even drafted QB Jalen Hurts in the 2nd round to be an insurance policy in case Wentz goes down with another injury. The Eagles did take a big blow to their O-line. All Pro guard Brandon Brooks tore his Achilles during off-season workouts and will more than likely miss the entire 2020 season. Long time stand out LT Jason Peters won’t be returning to the lineup as well and will be replaced by 2019 1st rounder Andre Dillard, who struggled protecting Carson’s blindside. He’s still young and pretty raw so the Eagles are hoping he can improve fairly quickly. Luckily for the Eagles, they will have the services of RT Lane Johnson, who is easily the best Right Tackle in the game today and will help stabilize this unit. Defensively, the Eagles were fairly average throughout 2019, as they ranked 15th overall. CB was a huge need going in to the 2020 off-season and the Eagles played no games addressing the position. They traded for shutdown CB Darius Slay (Formerly of the Lions) to come in and be their shadow corner. They also signed Nickell Robey-Coleman, who is an excellent slot corner and boost this secondary. Philly did however loss long time safety Malcolm Jenkins (Signed with New Orleans) who was a leader and stabilizing figure for that defense. It’ll be very difficult to replace his impact on this team.Philadelphia’s front four is easily the strength of this this defense. They’ll be anchored by All-Pro DT Fletcher Cox, who is truly an elite player at his position. Manned next to him will be run-stuffing presence Javon Hargrave (Formerly from Steelers), who will serve as an upgrade over Timmy Jernigan. At defensive end, Philly will be returning the awesome Brandon Graham and a mediocre Derek Barnett, the latter in which they are still hopeful will become more of a presence. The weakness of this Eagles defense is easily the linebacking corps. Jordan Hicks and Nigel Bradham departed in consecutive off-seasons, and neither has been replaced. The Eagles will have to count on the unknown services of players like Nathan Gerry and Duke Riley, as well as T.J. Edwards. They did draft LB Davion Taylor (Colorado) in the 3rd round. He’ll get a chance to come in and compete for a starting gig.The 2020 season could be very promising for the Eagles. They’re the only team in the division without a coaching staff change and have several players returning from injuries. How will the season ultimately pan out? Listen to Bryce Benjamin and Ed Rueter season outlook for the 2020 Philadelphia Eagles! #FlyEaglesFly
Has there ever been a team in NFL history that was as polarizing as the 2019 Miami Dolphins!? No, like seriously? They began the season dropping their first 7 games, literally losing their first 4 games by the combine score of 163 - 26…. YIKES! Everyone instantly peg this season as the “Tanking for Tua” sweepstakes. Disgruntled players requested trades to different franchises, including sophomore star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (Traded to Pittsburgh) and running back Kenyan Drake (Traded to Arizona). It was suggested that rookie Head Coach Brian Flores was in over his head and had lost this team. Any and every major sports media network push the notion that this was perhaps the worst football team to ever grace an NFL field. Needless to say, things weren’t so sunny in South Beach…But then, something in this team clicked during the 2nd half of the 2019 season . This same Miami Dolphin’s squad, which was pretty much a sure victory on majority of teams schedules, weren’t so easy to beat during November and December. During that span, the Fins’ went a very respectable 5 - 4 to close out the 2019 season; a record that included victories over the Indianapolis Colts, the Philadelphia Eagles and a week 17 sweet sweet victory over hated rival, The New England Patriots (Which knocked NE from a playoff bye). Brain Flores proved to be an excellent leader of men, establishing a culture of competitiveness, toughness, resiliency, and squeezed out every bit of fight this team could mustard. Offensive players like star receiver DeVante Parker began to show up and show out more consistently. The defensive play was far more competitive and would force turnovers on a gamely basis. The Miami Dolphins were no longer the pushover team we known them as at the beginning of the season and gave their fans something that they could truly lean on moving forward.Miami’s 2020 off-season has been nothing short of spectacular! They went in to attack mode in addressing their defense with veteran signs of CB Byron Jones (5-year deal), LB Kyle Van Noy (4-Year deal) and DE Shaq Lawson (3-year deal). They absolute dominated the 2020 NFL draft in which selected QB of the future, Tua Tagovailoa (5th overall), a potential franchise Tackle in Austin Jackson (18th overall), and DB Noah Igbinoghene (30th overall), all of which selected with there 3 first round picks! Chan Gailey was hired out of retirement to come and be the Offensive Coordinator and Josh Boyer was promoted to be the new Defensive Coordinator. The Outlook for the Miami Dolphins moving forward looks absolutely awesome! GM Chris Grier did an amazing job of infusing this roster with a combination of both young and veteran talent. Brian Flores looks to continue his establishment of a winning culture, similar to what we’ve been accustomed to in his old stomping grounds in New England. As long as Tua can be brought along slowly and remain injury free, an AFC East crown is surely not out of the question in the near future for this Miami Franchise.Listen as our resident Dolphin fan Ed Rueter and Bryce Benjamin give their take on how this upcoming season will pan out for the 2020 Miami Dolphins! #FinsUp

Another year down, another 12 - 4 season and division crown for the New England Patriots… again. In 2019, the Pats continued dominance over the AFC East was just another notch in their belts.New England steamrolled through the first half of their schedule, getting off to a typical 8 - 0 start; which included blowout victories over the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets (Twice), New York Giants, Washington Redskins, and the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots were a well oiled machine, anchored by a dominating defense, and captained by the greatest QB of all time in Tom Brady. It looked as if the Pats were going to cruise to another #1 seed in the AFC and have the road to Super Bowl 54 go through Foxborough… again. However, things got a little shaky for the Patriots on the back 9 of their campaign. The 2nd half of New England’s season was not in their favor. They suffered their first loss of 2019 at the hands of Lamar Jackson and the red hot Baltimore Ravens. They would go on to split the final 8 games remaining in their schedule, including back to back losses to the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs (which gave KC the tie breaker). The Patriots would also lose the final game of the regular season to Ryan Fitzmagic (Fitzpatrick) and the Miami Dolphins; which ultimately prevented the Pats from securing the #2 seed and a wildcard bye. New England woes would continue in to the playoffs, as fans had to sit and watch Derrick Henry and the Tennessee Titans come in to Gillette Stadium and absolutely impose their will. With a smash mouth running game and a dominating defensive performance, The Titans would ground & pounded their way to a huge upset over the Pats, eliminating them from playoff contention in the opening round, which hasn’t happened since 2009!New England’s 2020 off-season did not get off to a favorable start. They lost key veteran players on defense, such as Linebackers Kyle Van Noy (Signed w/Miami) and Jamie Collins (Signed w/Detroit). They would also lose running stuffing Defensive Tackle Danny Shelton (Signed w/Detroit) and trade away starting safety Duron Harmon (Traded to Detroit). The greatest loss of course is when the GOAT himself, Tom Brady, decided to take his talents to Tampa Bay, and signed with the Buccaneers. However, the one constant that the New England Patriots will have this upcoming season is of course the mad genius himself, Head Coach Bill Belichick; along with a defensive that’ll be lead by awesome safety Devin McCourty (Re-Signed 2-years) & the reigning DPOY, CB Stephon Gilmore. The 2020 outlook for New England is certainly a strange one. It has been almost 20 years since they’re not considered the favorites to capture the AFC East division. With tons of questions raging from who’s going to be Quarterbacking this team, to how will the defense respond after suffering some major production losses, the future of the Pats seems to be very bleak… However, it just doesn’t feel right to count the Patriots out just yet, does it? Even with all the losses in the off-season and a very average draft (according to most draft experts), the mystique of Bill Belichick is just too enticing. There's something about this team that just makes you think that some how some way, Belichick is going to find a way.How will the Patriots 2020 season wind up when its all said and done? Well, take a listen to Bryce Benjamin and Ed Rueter's 2020 season preview for the New England Patriots, in this edition of SYE Quick Hits!
J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS! On this edition of SYE Quick Hits, Bryce and Rueter are previewing the 2020 outlook for the New York football Jets! The New York Jets had a pretty rough beginning to the 2019 season, losing 7 out of there first 8 games. Two of those losses were to their division rivals, the New England Patriots, in which the Jets were beaten by a combine score of 63 - 14, and had their young franchise QB “seeing ghost”. Now to be fair, the Jets were without Sam Darnold for about 3 games after the season opener, who missed some action due to him catching mono. He returned in week 5 and lead his team to a victory against the Dallas Cowboys. The Jets would ultimately go on a 7 - 2 run and finished the season 9 - 7.Throughout the season, the Jets O-line was just down right atrocious! They could barely keep Darnold upright or from having pressure in his face consistently. Big free agent RB addition Le’Veon Bell had zero holes to run through. And the receiving core, once lead by now departed Robby Anderson (Signed W/Carolina) was average at best. Needless to say, the offense could definitely use some upgrades. The Jets had an average defense in 2019, finishing the season ranked 16th. They did sustain a few key injuries in the front seven, most notable 2019 free agent LB addition C.J. Mosley, who only suited up for 2 games. However, they did have arguably the best safety in the game today Jamal Adams, to help stabilize that defense in 2019. There has been a disconnect with Adams and the NYJ front office and Jamal has formerly requested a trade from the franchise. We’ll see if he’ll be on the team once the 2020 season actually begins. They’re several questions about this Jets team that we’ll quickly find out once the season begins. Can Sam Darnold live up to the hype and produce at a higher level? Can Head Coach Adam Gase put his players in the best position to compete and succeed? How will the Jamal Adams saga eventually conclude? Tune in to this edition of SYE Quick Hits and see what Bryce and Rueter think!
HEY AH AH AH!!! LETS GO BUFFALO!!! On today’s edition of SYE Quick Hits, Rueter and Bryce are discussing the 2020 outlook for a very talented Buffalo Bills team! Buffalo finished the 2019 season with a 10-6 record, which was good enough to earn them 2nd place in the AFC East and secure a wildcard spot as a 5th seed. Despite a dominating performance by their terrific defense (Lead by Superstar CB Tre White) and a valiant effort from their young gun-slinging QB Josh Allen, the Bills were unable to sustain a 16pt 2nd half lead and were eventually upended by the Heroics of Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans. Now, with a revamped receiving core (Traded for Stefon Diggs), another year of growth for Josh Allen, and the return of one of the fiercest defense’s in all of football, the Buffalo Bills look poised to take the next step towards a potential division crown; something the Bills have not accomplished since 1995! Do the Buffalo Bills have what it takes to impose their will on a very wide open division and finally be crowned Kings of the AFC East for the first time in 25 years!? Tune in to SYE Quick Hits and find out!
