    The hugely popular Friends of Munster annual dinner took place at the New York Athletic Club last week with 300 people packing out the venue to raise valuable funds for the next generation of Munster stars.Attendees were treated to a very insightful conversation between Munster head coach Graham Rowntree and RTE's Marie Crowe, while the journalist also spoke to Munster legend Denis Leamy and current Munster fullback Mike Haley.     New York created history on Saturday by winning the county's first-ever game in the Connacht Senior Football Championship, edging Leitrim in a dramatic penalty shootout - the victory was sealed by the right boot of hometown hero Mike Brosnan who rifled the winning penalty home sparking scenes of wild celebrations as an avalanche of New York supporters surged onto the pitch.I spoke to Shane Carthy after the game who said the win was one of the best moments of his career.     New York play Leitrim in the opening round of the Connacht Senior Football Championship Saturday with the Exiles looking for their first ever win in the competition having first entered the tournament back in 1999.Excitement is building in the Big Apple with many pundits believing this is the strongest New York panel in a number of years with new additions including Rob Wharton and Gavin O Brien from Kerry, Eoghan Kerin from Galway, Bill Maher from Tipperary and Shane Carthy from Dublin who is commuting from Boston to hook up with the squad.Odds on New York pulling off the upset have been slashed from 13/2 into as low as 9/4 with Boyle sports.One negative for the panel is that they have not played any competitive or challenge games ahead of Saturday, whereas Leitim have just finished a full schedule of Division 4 league games.In this podcast, Michael interviews Niall Madine who has been one of the top forwards in the county in recent years.     New York has not played competitively at senior intercounty level since 2006 but that will change on Monday when the Exiles take part in the Connacht Senior Hurling League.New York Hurling Division Chair Richie Hartnett is also the manager of the team and he returns to the show to discuss the county's preparations ahead of the competition.Richie gives Michael an insight into how training has been going, the importance of the tournament to hurling's development in New York and the fundraising effort to finance the trip.New York play Longford in the quarterfinals Monday at 10 pm eastern -- or 5 pm Irish time -- at the Connacht GAA Air Dome in Mayo. The game will be live-streamed on the Connacht GAA website. The county mourned the passing of Donegal Club stalwart Donal Gallagher recently, the Killybegs native steered the club to six senior county titles in a managerial career that spanned three decades.
