You can learn more about the course here. Listen as he shares why great coaches win the relationship game, why we must be outcome aware but driven by process, and why every coach has the ability to change a person's life for the better.
WITH IRELAND KICKING off their November rugby internationals against New Zealand on Friday night, Gav and Sinéad debate the extent to which Ireland can really be called Rugby Country. Is rugby really a national obsession? The popularity of the provinces and the Irish national team is beyond question, but how has that fanbase grown given so few people play the game? Given the fact the Irish team is dominated by players produced by private schools, can the team be said to represent the country at large? And if not, does that even matter? The pair sift through some of the reasons underpinning the sport's appeal -the violence, the success, the opportunities it affords for drinking - explain the amount of media coverage afforded to the sport, and ponder what, if anything, the sport's popularity says about class divisions in Irish society.Get in touch with us - sinead@thejournal.ie and gavincooney@the42.ie Hosted on Acast. Loved this, what a great guy. He's had some serious highs and frustrating lows during his career so far, but I love his outlook on life and his approach to Rugby. I have no doubt, that at 28 years old, Joey still has his best years ahead of him in Red and in Green. He's a Rolls Royce of a player on his day, and hopefully he can get a run of games when back from Injury. Not one to shirk away from a challenge, something he will face head on for both Munster and Ireland!

Willie Anderson is a former Ireland rugby captain from a Protestant, Unionist background. Growing up in county Tyrone, marching on the 12th of July, Gaelic Games wasn't the jumper that fitted best. Life changes. Arrest in Argentina, threat of execution, before playing rugby in communist Romania changed his outlook on the place he calls home. In this podcast we hear the thoughts from a different background. Can the GAA evolve to attract more Unionists? Should they? Willie Anderson played Gaelic football, his son Thomas also played. Thomas also played professional rugby for Ulster, Connacht and Ireland, winning an U20 Grand Slam. He sent a very powerful letter years later. There's a lot more. A United Ireland and challenges the debate provides for sports and society. What does Willie think? The former Irish captain battled alcohol addiction. He doesn't drink anymore. He was also involved in a car accident that resulted in the death of a young boy. It's been a life of challenges- but every single fence has been climbed. Willie has played Gaelic Games, helped clubs with fundraisers, and has aided various clubs and counties throughout the years at the highest level- including Armagh. The Cathal O'Rourke story is probably the best line in the podcast- and there are many! Willie looks to the future- "Tell your children you love them everyday, because you don't know when the day will arrive" The sport needs winners and losers, even at underage. He doesn't miss! It's a different podcast, but a unique insight into Gaelic Games from one of the finest people we've ever had on the show. Willie Anderson is a remarkable man, with a remarkable family. We hope you enjoy. PS- his son Jonathan is one of the globes best fashion designers. Rihanna's outfit at the Superbowl half-time show? Beyonce? LeBron James? PPS- He's now working with James Bond. What a man, what a family!

The men in green won in a classic decider this weekend - after a win last weekend in which two men in black were carded after clashes of heads. Rugby writers and fans here complained the rules spoiled the spectacle - but overseas coverage carried much more concern about brand new rules to protect players' brains being flouted.

I reflect on Season 2 of TUTT including:- My network and the ability to get some legends to talk about their pathways to success in sport and also in life after in business.- The issue of life after sport for athletes is real. I was able to talk to some players on my recent trip with the Classic All Blacks to Spain and there's still the uncertainty for a few about what to do once they hang up the boots.- Those that had good guidance and advice from mentors were able to put things in place early in their playing careers and were able to transition more smoothly. There was so much learning from guests which I was able to relate to and also take away and utilise in my business journey.I give an update on our business journey over the last 6 months and some of the new experiences and happenings that have really helped with the direction of our business. Then I offer my 2 cents worth on the Blues making the final against the Crusaders and the recent All Black squad named to face a strong Irish squad.I share how I'm going back to work, along with some exciting challenges for my personal growth which will include overseas travel and documenting it while on the road which could give us ideas for Season 3 of Tana Umaga's TEEM Talk. Make sure to listen in and please give us feedback to help us learn and grow.

Neville has also achieved a number of firsts as a female referee in the men's game - a Pro14 match when she took charge of a 2017-18 fixture between Ulster and the Southern Kings - wait for the story from that game! This also saw Neville become the first woman to referee a top-level men's rugby union match in the UK. She is professionally contracted with the IRFU, has been a TMO, and is based in Limerick. Today we spoke about her journey to being a ref from a player, what makes an excellent referee - and what the prep and post-game processes look like. We heard about the challenges of being a referee, finding a balance between home and work with travel, and her varied officiating roles. We explored how to counter doubt and mistakes - and her fundraising and giving back work. This one is inspiring...about embracing challenges!

It is always good to catch up with my close friend Bundee Aki about what's going on in life and rugby. We obviously chat about his recent game against the All Blacks and how he felt after the win and what the week leading up to the big game was like for him and the team. It was his second win against the All Blacks in as many games. We chat about his journey from the Patumahoe Rugby Club in Counties-Manukau to Connacht and he lets us in on the similarities between the provinces and what he loves about them and how he used what he learnt in Counties-Manukau to drive Connacht to gaining respect in the European rugby community. He has never forgotten where he's from in South Auckland and how his determination and grit have seen him achieve so much away from his birth home and family. He's become a regular in the Irish Rugby Team since making his debut in 2017 and to watch him and to hear his story about how he found out about his selection for The British & Irish Lions team to tour South Africa was a proud moment for me.It was also good to hear that he is putting things in place for when his playing days come to an end and how he's getting out of his comfort zone to do that. A good listen if you want to hear how someone made some hard decisions, then didn't take anything for granted but worked his butt off to get what he wanted.
We catch up with Ireland head coach John Whalley

He tells us how he manages this, along with his other business ventures, all while still a professional athlete. Listen in!

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Mike Ruddock OBE, one of the most famous Welsh rugby union coaches of all time. What Mike doesn't know about rugby and creating high performing teams isn't worth knowing. Mike coached the Welsh national team to enormous success, as well as coaching Lansdowne FC, being the Director of Rugby at Worcester Warriors and today working with the Ospreys. Just a few of Mike's accolades include Coaching Swansea RFC to two Welsh Championships and a Welsh Cup triumph in 1995, coaching Swansea RFC to a historic win over the Australian National team in 1992 as well as being Head Coach of the Welsh Rugby team that won the 6 Nations in 2005 (winning their first Welsh Grand Slam in 27 years). He and Jeannette discuss his early life and how an industrial accident stopped his playing career at the age of 25, an event that led to his becoming a coach. He explains what that accident and working as a coach taught him about success and leading a happy life. They discuss what it takes to build a winning team and equip everyone to be able to fill other roles and progress throughout their life. KEY TAKEAWAYS We all experience ups and downs. So, everyone needs to learn to be resilient. Telling the universe what you want to do and dreaming big, really does work. You have to work hard and take action to achieve your dream. But you can do it. Bloody hard work pays off. Reach out to the people you work with and listen to their feedback Don´t let your ego get in the way. Don´t be afraid to be vulnerable and ask for help. Value everyone´s opinions. There is no one right answer. Everyone needs to switch off for a while. Constant stress will break you eventually. Be self-aware, including recognising when you are going wrong, then doing something to fix it. Stay on top of things without being on top of things. Delegate, but don´t lose oversight. Know when it is time to hand the torch to the next generation and prepare everyone to be ready for that time. Put in place a talent pipeline. It future proofs your organisation. Take an interest in people´s lives to build strong relationships and keep the channels of communication open. You´ve got to fail to achieve. BEST MOMENTS ‘Put it out there, tell the universe what you want to do. Dream big.' ‘Never underestimate contributions from the quieter members of your team.' ‘I underestimated the power of the mental gym.' ‘Be true to yourself and be self-aware.' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It's never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE.
