Toimittajana on Jonni Roos. Kirjailija Kauko Röyhkä on herättänyt huomiota uudella tavalla ansaita tuloja internetissä – erityisesti Facebookin maksullisen sisällön kautta. Kirjailijana on nimittäin vaikea tienata elantoa. Toimintaelokuvien ja väkivaltaviihteen merkityksestä keskustellaan Sisu 2 -elokuvan innoittamana. Miksi väkivaltaa ei enää viitsitä kritisoida kritiikeissä? Elon Muskin Grokipedia-tietosanakirja haastaa perinteisen Wikipedian aseman.

Jalmari Helanderin menestyselokuva Sisu on saanut nyt jatko-osan, jossa päähenkilö, Jorma Tommilan näyttelemä sotaveteraani Aatami Korpi matkaa toisen maailmansodan jälkimainingeissa Neuvosto-Karjalan puolelle hakemaan kotipaikkaansa takaisin. Onko Helanderista tulossa yksi Hollywoodin toimintaperinteen pelastajista? THE WOLFE IS LOOSE!! Erik Wolfe, that is. I sat down with Stoll & Wolfe distillery co-owner/founder/distiller Erik Wolfe a couple weeks ago when we did an American Whiskey Master Class event there. I wanted to get his thoughts on a number of things, and as usual, I had a whole page of questions to ask.  That's not what happened. I asked my opening question, and Erik took off like a rabbit. We covered -- excuse me, he covered a lot of territory, and honestly, I found it all fascinating, so I just let the recorder roll. It's a bit longer than we usually go, but I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it. I did take the book to Baltimore shortly after that, and had an event at Sisu, a new little bar with a big personality, run by friends of mine...and maybe yours, because they've become well-known in State College and Philadelphia. I also got a great dinner in Little Italy, at Benny's, advertising "The Best Balls On The Block," and it was no hollow boast.  What I'm Drinking Today is a Stoll & Wolfe whiskey, very limited release, one barrel only of a rye whiskey made with Rosen rye and malted Rosen rye. The result was intriguing, and wonderful. The Smack Dab In The Centre segment is about pizza again; three great spots in Centre County! (More pizza because holy cow! That Original Italian Pizza episode went crazy! You loved the OIP Story!) Next episode? I have an interview with an old friend, a young old friend, who's brewing in Lititz, Pennsylvania, and I take the opportunity to profile that wonderful little town, our first Lancaster County profile. I also deliver some big news about the Seen Through A Glass holiday schedule that I think you're going to like. A lot. This week, we dig into Sisu (2023)—the Finnish pulp-action blast where one man, a pickaxe, and a whole lot of grit take on the Nazi war machine. Recommended to us by filmmaker Jeff Wolfe (Outbreak, 2024), Sisu blends brutal, inventive violence with breathtaking cinematography, creating a mythic folk-hero story that feels like John Wick collided with a spaghetti Western. We talk about why this kind of lean, violent cinema works, the appeal of watching Nazis get torn apart on screen, and whether “sisu” as a concept makes the film resonate beyond its bloody spectacle. If you like your action raw, stylish, and more about grit than words—this one's for you. #SecondChanceCinema #Podcast #Sisu #SisuMovie #FinnishCinema #ActionMovies #GeoffWolfe #Outbreak2024 #FilmDiscussion #JohnWickVibes #SpaghettiWestern #PulpCinema

Many agents are feeling the pressure as deals get harder to close and the market shifts. Some are waiting for things to improve, while others are putting in the work now to get ahead. The difference comes down to skills, systems, and long-term planning.   Jim Amen has lived through challenging markets before. He started in real estate during the 2008 housing crisis, first as an appraiser and later as a broker. What began as a small brokerage is now a 41-agent team in Sacramento. “You have to be willing to pivot when the market shifts,” Jim says.   In this episode, Jim talks with Brian Charlesworth about why his team has been able to grow year after year while so many others are falling behind. He explains the simple daily habits that drive results, including focused prospecting, clear expectations, and strong accountability.   Jim also shares how he built seven different revenue streams to protect his business and create new opportunities. From mortgage partnerships to flipping mobile homes, these extra businesses allow his team to scale without relying only on commissions.   They dig into how tools like Sisu and Battr help his team track data, hold agents accountable, and build a two-year pipeline instead of chasing short-term leads. “Building wealth comes from the work you do now, before the market turns,” Jim explains.   Top Takeaways:   (1:45) From marketing director to real estate team leader (6:43) Growing while 71% of agents sell nothing (7:53) Simple habits and expectations that drive success (10:09) Taking market share before the shift hits (12:56) Building wealth beyond just selling homes (15:43) Lessons from losing $1M while scaling a team (22:04) Why solo agents struggle to succeed today (23:03) What joining a team really provides (24:29) Turning client tracking into revenue with Sisu (25:42) $150K in operations funded by TC fees (27:09) Adding seven income streams to the business (32:33) Four-step process to build a two-year pipeline (34:58) Automating lead follow-up with Battr and AI   Listen in to learn how to prepare your team for the next big market shift and how to create a business that lasts.   About Jim Amen   Jim Amen is the CEO and Founder of Amen Real Estate, serving 14 counties across Northern California. CTO Series: Toni Sallanmaa on Scaling Engineering Teams and Aligning Tech with Business Goals In this BONUS episode, we explore the journey of scaling technology teams and maintaining alignment between engineering and business objectives with Toni Sallanmaa, CTO at Funidata. Toni shares invaluable insights from leading the development of Sisu, a cutting-edge student information system serving over 100,000 Finnish university users, and discusses practical strategies for growing engineering organizations while preserving company culture. The Genesis of Leadership in Technology "I understood what I was really responsible for. I'm interested in the business we are running—the business adds meaning to the work." Toni's approach to technology leadership was fundamentally shaped by a pivotal moment early in his career when he first gained influence over system development and technology choices. After working with large-scale systems for 20 years, this moment of responsibility revelation transformed his perspective from purely technical to business-focused. He emphasizes that infinite curiosity drives success in tech businesses, and understanding the business context gives meaningful purpose to technical work. Bridging the Gap Between Tech and Product "Don't separate Tech from Product. We established a common language between product and technology people." One of Toni's most significant insights centers on eliminating the traditional divide between technology and product teams. As Funidata grew from a small startup to a 70-person organization, the challenges of maintaining alignment became apparent. Their solution involved several key practices: Teaching developers the language of the product domain  Banning confusing technical terms that create communication barriers Workshopping product language to ensure clarity Keeping entity names deliberately vague until true understanding emerges This approach draws heavily from Domain Driven Design principles, creating a unified vocabulary that enables seamless collaboration. Collaborative Planning and Transparency "We use transparency as a collaboration technique. Every team sees what's being proposed as a goal for the next quarter." Funidata implements a unique "marketplace of goals" approach during their quarterly big room planning sessions. Rather than using scaled agile frameworks, they focus on transparency and collaborative goal-setting. Teams present their high-level quarterly plans to each other, creating visibility across the organization. Product owners are embedded within teams, keeping communication distances short and ensuring alignment between technical execution and business objectives. Future-Forward Roadmapping "We talk about the higher level ideas regularly, but let them bubble up from the community. We hold internal hackathons." Toni's approach to roadmapping balances strategic vision with grassroots innovation. They maintain an internal technology roadmap that addresses emerging trends like AI, while allowing ideas to organically emerge from the engineering community. Internal hackathons serve as catalysts for innovation, providing structured opportunities for teams to explore new technologies and approaches that might inform future roadmap decisions. Scaling Challenges and Cultural Preservation "The biggest challenge is not technology, it was the rapid scaling of technology teams. When you scale up, keep the culture in mind." The most significant challenge Toni faced wasn't technical but organizational—rapidly scaling teams while preserving company culture. Growing from 10 to 50 people required evolving processes, from establishing internal forums for architectural discussions to implementing continuous integration flows. The key was identifying pain points proactively and maintaining open discussions with team members throughout the scaling process. Strengthening company culture became essential to successful growth. AI's Impact on Software Development "Productivity is on the rise. We see opportunities like generating test data, but we have strict requirements for cybersecurity, which puts pressure on code quality." Toni views AI's impact on software development with cautious optimism. While productivity gains are evident, particularly in areas like test data generation, the stringent cybersecurity requirements in their domain mean that AI hasn't yet significantly improved code quality where it matters most. The technology shows promise, but implementation must be carefully considered within the context of security and quality requirements. Measuring Engineering Success "We use DORA and SPACE framework. We measure how much of our work is KTLO (Keep The Lights On) and how much is elective development." Funidata employs both DORA and SPACE frameworks to measure engineering organization success. From SPACE, they particularly focus on measuring software team wellbeing, while also tracking the balance between "Keep The Lights On" (KTLO) work and elective development. Using JIRA connected to a data warehouse, they mine extensive data that serves both leadership decision-making and team improvement efforts, ensuring metrics benefit everyone in the organization. Influential Leadership Resources "The organizational books have been more influential to me than purely technical ones." Toni emphasizes that organizational leadership books have shaped his CTO approach more than technical resources. Two key influences stand out: "Team Topologies" for understanding how to structure and scale engineering teams effectively, and "Radical Candor" for building authentic, productive relationships within the organization. You can find a BONUS episode on Team Topologies with the authors Matthew Skeltton and Manuel Pais. About Toni Sallanmaa Toni leads technology and engineering at Funidata, developing Sisu—a cutting-edge student information system serving over 100,000 Finnish university users. Passionate about agile methodologies, system architecture, and software engineering, Toni specializes in technology management, software lifecycle, OOP, and relational databases to deliver innovative, scalable solutions in higher education tech. Shortsightedness or myopia affects long distance vision, preventing people from seeing objects over a few yards away. You may remember we covered the subject on Do You Really Know? a while back and that it has been labelled an epidemic due to ever increasing prevalence worldwide. It's estimated that a third of all people suffer from myopia, and the World Health Organisation has suggested that half of all human beings in the world will be shortsighted by 2050, with excessive screen use and a lack of time spent outdoors largely to blame. If you simply can't stand contacts or glasses, laser surgery is another option. It's been in fashion since the turn of the century and according to Optegra, over 15,000 Brits choose to go down that route each year. Can all shortsighted people get laser eye surgery? Some teams reach a point where the leader can step out of production without losing momentum. That usually takes years, but in under five, Brian Buckley grew his team from just a few agents to 35 and positioned himself to focus solely on building the business. From his background in construction and development to leading one of the top teams at his brokerage, Brian has made systems, culture, and accountability non-negotiables. He put platforms like Sisu, Follow Up Boss, and Battr in place early, not after growth happened, but to drive it. “If I can control mortgage, title, and everything that can blow up a deal, I've got a much higher chance of getting it to the finish line,” says Brian. In this episode, Brian Charlesworth talks with Brian about building a team that can scale without the leader in production, why controlling the client experience matters, and how data-driven coaching can turn weaknesses into wins. Culture plays a big role in how his team runs. He calls out toxic behavior quickly, encourages daily “win of the day” updates, and makes sure agents back each other up without ego. Performance data is visible in the office for everyone to see, creating a natural level of ownership. “My job is technology and leads. Your job is closing deals and building our brand forward-facing,” he explains. That clarity has fueled growth, along with smart recruiting. Brian openly shares what works in the brokerage community, believing that value given comes back in results. Moving into Zillow Flex and integrating Battr for automated follow-ups has helped keep leads from slipping away while freeing him from daily chasing.   Top Takeaways:   (1:27) Sisu as a growth driver from day one (4:22) Why experienced agents return to teams (6:45) Cutting toxicity and building real teamwork (8:34) Recruiting by sharing what works (11:35) Controlling the process to close more deals (16:26) Treating agents like partners (17:34) Coaching agents into ownership (19:36) Using automation to boost follow-up (23:50) Lower costs, higher ROI with the right tools (27:08) Turning “bad” leads into closings (30:05) Winning deals with smart concessions (31:51) Skiing adventures beyond real estate   Listen in to learn how to scale a real estate business with systems, protect culture as you grow, and free yourself from the day-to-day without losing momentum.   About Brian Buckley   Brian M. What happens when you stop building your real estate business the way everyone tells you to and start building it around who you really are? On this episode, JD Reese shares how he rebuilt from that exact moment and what came next. He takes us inside Genuine Real Estate Group, one of the most consistent teams in Southern Utah, where 60 listings stay active and under contract, and agent turnover is nearly zero. He breaks down how they keep that kind of performance steady without burning out. From pricing strategy and emotional sellers to tracking accountability and team culture, JD gets into the decisions that drive results. “You've got to be the best house and the best offering in the neighborhood,” he says. But that's just the beginning. JD also unpacks how his team uses tools like Sisu's new product “Battr”, to track every step of the lead journey, flag breakdowns, and stay focused on what actually moves the needle. “It's not about more leads. It's about calling fewer leads more.” No outbound recruiting. No scripts. Just structure, speed, and real coaching. “If you're not converting anything into your name, your database is too small.” You'll hear how they onboard new agents, use mentorship to drive growth, and create space for real conversations instead of surface-level tactics.
