Watch the full coverage of the live stream on The Emily D Baker YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/live/onTVtSxM5QwDay 15 of the Karen Read Retrial happened on May 14, 2025, after an unexpected court cancellation the day before due to Karen Read reportedly feeling unwell. The day began with the prosecution presenting two clips of Karen Read that were difficult to hear. Testimony was then given by John O'Keefe's niece (not broadcast), followed by several scientific witnesses from the Massachusetts State Police and Needham PD.Key testimony focused on evidence collection and documentation related to Karen Read's SUV. Trooper Zachary Clark presented photos of the SUV, while Trooper Evan Brent provided photos of John O'Keefe's Chevy Traverse. Sergeant Brian Gallerani testified about collecting swabs for DNA testing from Proctor and Bukhenik. Marine Hartnett from the state police crime lab discussed the processing of Karen Read's SUV, including documenting glass pieces, scratches, dents, and a hair found on the vehicle. An unexpected moment occurred when Hartnett opened an evidence bag in court and found items she did not expect, leading to a sidebar, recess, and lunch break. This raised concerns about evidence handling and the accuracy of what was in the bag.During cross-examination, defense attorney Robert Alessi questioned Hartnett about the number of stickers used to mark glass on the bumper, suggesting there might only be one sticker and a reflection, thus potentially doubling the amount of perceived glass. Alessi also focused on a hair found on the SUV, questioning if it had moved or changed position between photos due to different angles or other factors. The court also viewed previously unseen video footage from the Sallyport showing snow melting and falling off Karen Read's SUV. Alessi highlighted this footage, suggesting the snow hit the car bumper and glass should have fallen off.The day concluded with continued questions regarding the hair on the vehicle and its potential movement or presence despite the melting snow. The scientific foundation is being laid for the reconstructionist from both sides. The possibility of ending with the Commonwealth's accident reconstructionist is discussed.RESOURCESWhat You Need to Know About the Retrial - https://youtu.be/89Jpa8vz1RQ Karen Read Retrial Playlist - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsbUyvZas7gKOJlfL__9F027hlETVU-vo Karen Read Trial - 2024 - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsbUyvZas7gKUeCUzApgsEuQRXu5IXeTSThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Spotify Ad Analytics - https://www.spotify.com/us/legal/ad-analytics-privacy-policy/Podscribe - https://podscribe.com/privacy

n this episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo boards the wild, rowdy, and frankly chaotic flight of "Fight or Flight" with star Josh Hartnett and director James Madigan. Picture this: you're stuck on a plane, half-drunk, and suddenly everyone around you turns out to be deadly assassins—basically, the worst flight imaginable. That's precisely the mess Lucas (Hartnett) finds himself navigating in this adrenaline-charged comedy-action flick. Known for his second-unit action chops on blockbusters like "Transformers" and "The Meg," Madigan boldly steps up to the plate, making an assured directorial debut with a scrappy, humorous energy that pairs perfectly with Hartnett's laid-back charisma. The film also features a stellar ensemble including Katee Sackhoff, Charithra Chandran, and Julian Kostov.Hartnett explained that Madigan's initial pitch immediately hooked him. "One of the first things James said was, 'I want the action sequences to feel like musical numbers,'" Hartnett laughed. "He wanted character growth to happen through action. That felt essential—and honestly, pretty exciting.”

It was a barn burner of a debate between two very formidable figures: Senator Ernest Hollings and Former Congressman Tommy Hartnett. So sit back, pop up the popcorn, and find the southern native friend you have who may be able to help you understand these two combatants with the thick Charlestonian accents, because this is a debate you will thoroughly enjoy if you like to hear brilliant people, discussing real policy, with tremendous passion. Send us a textIn 1992, South Carolina featured a heated Senate race that featured two very experienced and respected political figures in incumbent senator Ernest Hollings and his challenger former Congressman Tommy Hartnett. It would be the toughest challenge for Hollings in decades because not only was Hartnett a formidable challenger but the political dynamics in South Carolina were changing fast as the state grew more conservative and more Republican. But Ernest Hollings was a towering political figure. He had been at the forefront of political crusades to feed the hungry, keep the military strong, protect manufacturing jobs, and stop the massive amounts of money flowing into political races. Holling's fit the bill that had often been how South Carolinian's described liking their politicians, "Ernest Hollings fought hard for what he believed in, even when he was wrong." That always appealed to people in the state even when they disagreed with the Senator. His opponent in the race was former Representative Tommy Hartnett, the former congressman from the South Carolina First District, which included Charleston S.C. where the Senator was from too. Hartnett was a champion for fiscal responsibility, supported term limits for Congress, and fought to keep the budget under control. He had arrived in Washington D.c. as part of the Reagan Revolution in 1980 and served for six years in Congress before deciding to come home and run for Lieutenant Governor. After nearly, two and half decades in public life, first as South Carolina State House member, he lost the race for Lieutenant Governor and this was his attempt at a comeback. This was an exciting race between two formidable men. In this episode, we will look at the careers of both men and their thoughts on Government and what they both feel is the problems our nation at the time faced. Many of those issues still plague us now. In the end, we will focus in on the legendary career of the incumbent, a man considered a giant of American Politics both at home and in washington D.C. He became famous for his southern Charleston drawl, his towering physical frame, and his often blunt, fiery positions, on issues, always on the side of the little man he had been sent to the Senate to represent. Then in our next episode we will present the South Carolina United States Senate debate and let me warn you, it will be exciting, but unless you are from South Carolina you may need an interpreter to understand them. Send us a textIn this episode we tune in to the first days of the 1992 Republican National Convention. We will go first to the morning session and hear from a list of Republican candidates for Congress as they try to "Bounce the House" after the Democrats get themselves in gulfed in a house banking scandal where several of the members bounced hundreds of the thousands of dollars in checks on the House bank. We will hear from former Congressman Tommy Hartnett who challenged my State's long time Senator Ernest Hollings in 1992. It was the first race where I was selected to chair the campaign at my little college in Greenwood S.C. While I never met Mr. Hartnett, I had a lot of fun, and enjoyed listening to him and Ernest Hollings battle it out with thick Charleston, South Carolina accents. This is the first of a couple of episodes that will feature this 1992 Senate Race. Then we will hear from former candidate Pat Buchanan as he electrifies the convention with a tough , conservative speech about the culture wars in America. It was , often, very accurate in substance, but it gave a much meaner look to conservatism than the man who would walk on to the podium just after him and out of prime time. That speech will be what our next episode will cover; the man who put a smiling face on American Conservatism, Ronald Reagan. Trap (2024) A father named Cooper (Josh Hartnett) and his daughter Riley (Ariel Donoghue) are going to a Lady Raven (Saleka Shyamalan) concert. She's equal to a Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift type Pop Star. We quickly learn that Cooper has a secret, and that the concert was all a set up to find a serial killer. He must play dad and evade capture at the same time. Trap was the first movie I got excited about that wasn't part of some huge franchise. There was nothing preceding this that I could rely on, other than my love for M Night Shyamalan movies, and even some of those haven't been really reliable lately. An original movie, low budget compared to the big franchises. It was the concept that really sold me. What makes this movie's concept really interesting is that the concept is not just the "Serial Killer in a trap at a concert," but also, M Night Shyamalan's daughter wrote and produced an entire album of music for the film, played the music of the film, performed a concert for the film, and acted as a character in the film. And when you listen to it, it actually sounds good too. She wore many hats for this film, and that was a concept that I fell in love with personally. Saleka's music as Lady Raven fits the mold of the pop music it is meant to emulate, creating a believable concert for a pop sensation that teens and tweens can get really excited about. I hope there is a special feature or behind the scenes documentary that goes into more detail on how this was accomplished. Past that Josh Hartnett's performance as Cooper/The Butcher is one of the best things about this movie. He plays the duality of his role as father and killer well. Especially as the pressure increases and the line starts to blur a bit, and he starts to lose control. I've always been a fan of Hartnett, He's been working but has reentered the zeitgeist with Oppenheimer, and now Trap. I am excited to see what he has in store for us next. M Night Shyamalan's Trap is not his greatest film, but don't get me wrong, it still is a good one. The Happening was a low point for him, and Old and Knock at the Cabin were good, but there were some aspects that just didn't work for me. This movie everything worked: the premise, the performances, the music, the motivations, and the story. I only have two criticisms. I felt that some things moved a bit too quickly. I would've liked it to be drawn out a little bit more. A good example of this is that we find out that Cooper needs to get backstage. I don't feel like the tension of "how does a regular person get backstage of this huge concert?" played out enough. We find out that he needs to, and then boom, the solution presents itself. The solution by all means was a good one, but it would've been nice to see some more panic or planning before that was revealed. And then there was a character that I don't really understand why she was in the movie. There's a woman who is the mother of one of Riley's friends. There was a falling out, and she's trying to put things back together by talking with Cooper about it. IT doesn't really go anywhere, and it leaves me to wonder if there's a subplot that was taken out of the movie. It gave him a reason to run into someone outside to be an obstacle, which is fine, but then we see them inside during a specific moment, that if it was removed, it wouldn't have hurt the story. I personally can't stop thinking about this movie. I've been listening to the fake "Lady Raven" album on repeat in my car. These are songs that are aimed at teenagers, and here I am blasting it in my car on my way to work. There is one question I have that we won't know for a while, and that is if M Night will push to have one of these songs considered for an Oscar. I think that would be really cool. 2 tickets

It's been awhile since we've seen Josh Hartnett star in a prominent movie, but after his prominent role in “Oppenheimer”, he's back and starring in “Trap.” This is the latest movie from M. Night Shyamalan, the famous director of “The Sixth Sense”, “Unbreakable” and “Signs.” In “Trap”, Hartnett plays Cooper, a Dad who's taking his daughter to a big concert for a mega-popular singer named Lady Raven. Once he gets into the concert, he notices a massive police and FBI presence. Cooper later finds out that the concert has been set as an elaborate trap to catch a serial killer called “The Butcher.” Now he's really stressed, and if you watch the trailers or the movie, you'll know why. Also, there's a FBI profiler there to describe all the moves The Butcher will make to try to get out of the trap and what law enforcement should then do. All the while, Cooper has to be a good Dad and enjoy the concert with his daughter, who is excited to be there for Lady Raven. As the movie goes on, the trap gets tighter and tighter as law enforcement rules out more and more suspects and closes in. Will The Butcher be caught? How many will die in the process? Is it worth even seeing this movie to find out? Check out this episode to see if it is worth seeing. “Trap” also stars Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Shyamalan, Alison Pill, Hayley Mills, Jonathan Langdon, Mark Bacolcol, Marnie McPhail, Kid Cudi, Russ, Marcia Bennett, Vanessa Smythe, M. On episode 244 of The AwardsWatch Podcast, Executive Editor Ryan McQuade is joined by AwardsWatch contributor Karen Peterson to give their thoughts on the career of director M. Night Shyamalan and then give out a SPOILER review of his latest film, Trap. As we step into the second half of the year, one of the most anticipated films arrives from one of Hollywood's most fascinating figures with M. Night Shyamalan's Trap. The new thriller seems to be dividing audiences and critics alike, much like man of the films within the director's filmography, leading to a interesting conversation between Ryan and Karen as their review took place shortly after they saw the film opening night. But before they give their thoughts on Trap, the duo talked about the director's previous fifteen films, the good ones, the bad ones, and his place in Hollywood stands in the pantheon of the other directors from his era as well as where he stands as an artist today. Then they get into a full SPOILER review of Trap, where they talk at length about Hartnett's killer performance, the film's thoughts on fame, serial killers, being a dad, as well as the music and, of course, the film's ending. If you think this conversation was a good and in-depth about Shyamalan's career, go to our website and read both Ryan's ranking piece on Shyamalan's entire career, as well as Cody Dericks' retrospective review of the director's twenty year old classic, The Village. You can listen to The AwardsWatch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music and more. This podcast runs 2h10m. We will be back next week to do another Oscar retrospective episode over the 52nd Academy Awards and the films of 1979. Till then, let's get into it. M. Night Shyamalan is probably the only person who looked at Josh Hartnett and thought he'd make a great serial killer, but Hartnett is glad he did. “This is going to surprise people. It's a little bit different than other films that he's made.” In Trap, Hartnett plays Cooper, a killer inadvertently lured to a concert with his teenage daughter as a trap set up by authorities to catch him. While that may seem like it's giving too much of the plot away, Hartnett says viewers will see there's so much more going on. “It's all about your hope that people will be taken on the journey, and you don't want to ruin it for them.” Fresh off appearing in last year's Best Picture Oscar-winning film Oppenheimer, there's been renewed interest in his past work. “It's nice to hear that people are responding to films I did earlier in my career because I think a lot of them were really cool.” Hartnett skyrocketed to fame at 20 with hits like The Faculty and The Virgin Suicides. “I didn't think I was going to be successful. And then when the movies became successful, it was almost confusing.”See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Prosecutors in the Karen Read trial presented key testimony from crime scene analysts on Monday, focusing on the SUV allegedly driven by Read when she backed into her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe, and left him to die in a snowbank. The analysts described in detail the damage to Read's vehicle and the scene where O'Keefe's body was found. Maureen Hartnett, a crime lab analyst, examined Read's SUV a few days after O'Keefe's death. She observed a dent in the trunk door, scratches on the rear bumper, a broken taillight, a hair next to the taillight, and pieces of glass on the bumper. Hartnett also analyzed O'Keefe's clothing and found red-brown stains and 13 rips and tears, particularly on the right sleeve. Defense attorney Alan Jackson questioned Hartnett about the glass and hair found on the SUV, suggesting that they may have been planted. He asked Hartnett if the items were "just sitting" or "perched" on the SUV, despite the fact that it had been driven or towed roughly 50 miles in a snowstorm. Hartnett agreed with his characterization of the items' placement but declined to speculate about the travel involved. Lt. Kevin O'Hara of the Massachusetts State Police helped search the area where O'Keefe was found and described finding six or seven pieces of a broken taillight and O'Keefe's sneaker in the snow. However, he acknowledged that the scene was left unsecured for hours before the search. The prosecution argues that the broken taillight fragments came from Read's SUV, which they say she used to back into and kill O'Keefe. The defense suggests that the evidence was planted by corrupt investigators, taking advantage of the unsecured crime scene. Martha Coakley, former Massachusetts Attorney General, commented on the closing arguments, stating that "there are so many theories, pieces of evidence, ways in which the prosecution had to get evidence in, and the defense counsel has been aggressive in cross-examining, which is their job, in trying to defend their client." As the trial continues, both sides will likely present more evidence and arguments to support their respective cases. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE?
