This week, Drewby and Yergy head to LaPorte, Indiana, to discuss the case of 4-year-old Judah Morgan, who was placed in a loving home, only to have that stripped away 18-months later. CPS took Judah from his foster parents, and placed him in the home of his biological parents, Mary Yoder and Alan Morgan. During this time, Judah was tied up with duct tape and thrown into the basement of the couple's squalid home, only to die from blunt force trauma due to all of the beatings he suffered at Alan's hands.  Support Our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/themiserymachine PayPal: https://www.paypal.me/themiserymachine Join Our Facebook Group: https://t.co/DeSZIIMgXs?amp=1 Instagram: miserymachinepodcast Twitter: misery_podcast Discord: https://discord.gg/kCCzjZM #themiserymachine #podcast #truecrime Source Material: https://www.facebook.com/share/Aa8vWXLZd88U3bAF/?mibextid=LQQJ4d https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/263339215/judah-marshall-morgan https://wsbt.com/resources/pdf/2b9b99bf-ce2f-4d5a-8529-5083dfa0e15e-amendedjudahmorganlawsuit.pdf https://lawandcrime.com/crime/unbelievable-judge-lashes-out-after-mother-said-she-missed-the-sweet-boy-she-helped-torture-and-beat-to-death/amp/ https://gb.readly.com/magazines/pick-me-up/2024-03-14/65ec8eb427cff78b81cf208b https://www.tributebook.com/domains/9e84358d-f21f-4355-8b21-a2eb010b669d/obituaries/22691600/book?utm_source=www.lakeviewfhc.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=obit_event_view_book# https://www.youthservicebureau.com/programs https://wsbt.com/amp/news/local/judah-morgan-laid-rest-child-abuse-murder-potty-training-judahs-law-father-mother-foster-parents-caregiver-child-care-department-services-dcs-hearings-wythogan-park-indiana https://wsbt.com/amp/news/local/appeal-denied-father-murders-son-potty-training-judah-morgan-judahs-law-convicted-prison-sentence-upheld-child-abuse-laporte-county-indiana https://www.wndu.com/2022/11/29/laporte-man-sentenced-death-son/ https://www.wrtv.com/news/local-news/crime/northwest-indiana-man-sentenced-to-more-than-60-years-for-murder-of-4-year-old-son-judah-morgan https://www.wrtv.com/news/local-news/crime/new-charges-filed-against-northwest-indiana-woman-accused-in-death-of-4-year-old-son https://wsbt.com/amp/news/local/la-porte-county-man-charged-with-murder-in-4-year-old-sons-murder https://eu.indystar.com/story/news/investigations/2024/05/09/indiana-dcs-child-services-red-flags-judah-morgan-laporte-county-child-abuse-torture-foster-home/73606219007/ https://fultoncountypost.com/wroi-news/711123#gsc.tab=0 https://www.wndu.com/2021/10/14/court-docs-show-history-child-abuse-laporte-co-homicide-case/?outputType=amp https://youtu.be/3c_z4aThOQU?feature=shared https://www.gofundme.com/f/justiceforjudah https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/263339215/judah-marshall-morgan https://fultoncountypost.com/wroi-news/664385#gsc.tab=0 https://www.facebook.com/emiyoder

In this episode of the Fueling Creativity in Education Podcast, hosts Drs. Matthew Worwood and Cyndi Burnett delve into the transformative power of creativity in education with guests Rosie Leonard-Kane and Alan Morgan from the University College Dublin Innovation Academy. Rosie, a facilitation specialist, emphasizes the critical need for a shift towards a more creative educational approach, particularly in systems heavily focused on examinations. Alan, an entrepreneurial specialist and program director, discusses the vital role of developing educators' creative confidence and mindset. Together, they highlight the necessity of embracing and nurturing creativity to rekindle educators' passion for teaching. Throughout the episode, the conversation covers the challenges and potential solutions for integrating creativity into educational practices. The discussion includes the impact of the pandemic on educational creativity, the shift to online learning, and the opportunity it presents to expand program reach and incorporate experiential learning virtually. The hosts and guests also touch on the importance of developing an entrepreneurial mindset in teachers, employing design thinking, and fostering an environment of innovation and flexibility. Practical tips for educators on starting small with creativity in the classroom and fostering a culture of curiosity and collaboration are shared, making this a must-listen for educators looking to enhance their teaching approach and inspire their students. About our guests: Rosie Leonard-Kane Rosie started her career as a secondary level (high school) maths teacher. She worked in London's most deprived areas where educational outcomes are still closely linked to socio-economic background. Amidst a culture of high-stakes exam pressure, Rosie found joy in finding creative ways to engage her students in learning and loving maths, and soon found herself sharing her approaches with other colleagues. This led to a move into teacher training and development where Rosie's passion for supporting others to unleash their own creativity and innovation in their teaching grew. She now works as a Facilitation Specialist at the UCD Innovation Academy where she has, what she describes as, the ‘absolute privilege' of working with Educators across all levels of education to develop creative confidence and adapt their approach to teaching and learning so that their students get the kind of education that they all deserve, not just focused on passing the test. Alan Morgan Alan Joined the UCD Innovation Academy in 2019 and he now holds positions as an Entrepreneurial Specialist, Facilitator and Programme Director for The Professional Diploma in Creativity & Innovation in Education (Educators Programme for short). Before joining the Academy, Alan held key positions at Kaplan Dublin Business School (DBS) including Course Director for Marketing and various lecturing roles in Marketing subjects. While working at DBS, Alan studied Entrepreneurial Education at The Innovation Academy - and this change his life..! It was at this time that he developed a passion for creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial thinking in education. Winning two awards at DBS for ‘Above & Beyond' in his work with students, Alan then moved on and joined the UCD Innovation Academy where he became Programme Director for the course that changed his life..! Alan has built and developed the Educators Programme, particularly through the Pandemic years, to it now being an internationally recognised programme for educators at all levels. Alan is currently in the final stages of a Doctorate of Education with The University of Wales Trinity Saint David – his research topic is centred around the Cultivation of an Entrepreneurial Mindset in Primary School in Ireland. Before his days working in education, Alan had a successful career as an International Retail Buyer.   Eager to bring more creativity into your school district? EPISODE 106 | Suffer the Children – Pizzagate, Wayfair & the Seeds of QAnon "Without a clear indication of the author's intent, it is difficult or impossible to tell the difference between an expression of sincere extremism and a parody of extremism." In the world of the internet, this is known as Poe's Law, and it's especially applicable to the weird narrative Gordian Knot known as Pizzagate. The adage applies not just to how absurd some beliefs are, but also to the arguments made by people who hold these beliefs. First formulated in 2005 by Nathan Poe, it builds on a 2001 quote by Alan Morgan called Alan's 2nd Law of Newsgroups, which states, “Any sufficiently advanced troll is indistinguishable from a genuine kook.” And that is certainly the case for the wild story that “a hipster-heavy pizza parlor” (as they put it on their website) in the Chevy Chase neighborhood of Washington D.C. is not just a fun family place with pizza, ping pong and live music, but the nerve center for an diabolical child trafficking ring that operates out in the open because they are protected by highly-placed pedophiles in the Democratic party. As an article on Cracked.com puts it, “This is supported by lots of very stupid evidence”. The stakes of the fake narrative are so high that it's become more than just true believers review bombing the place. Workers have been harassed and, on December 4, 2016, a heavily armed man entered the restaurant and started firing guns. The story of Pizzagate is the story of how the conspirasphere went from harmless kookery to being actually, physically dangerous. TRIGGER WARNING: Some pretty disturbing things will be talked about in this episode, so if the subject of child sexual abuse and trafficking is deeply uncomfortable for you, perhaps you should not listen. Mother Sentenced to 42 Years in Prison for Role in Torture and Murder of 4-Year-Old Son in Indiana    LaPorte County, Indiana - A tragic case of child abuse and murder has concluded with the sentencing of 28-year-old Mary Yoder to 42 years in a state correctional facility for her role in the torture and killing of her 4-year-old son, Judah Morgan. The heartbreaking incident occurred in 2021, and it has sent shockwaves through the community and the nation.    LaPorte County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Alevizos handed down the sentence on Friday, marking a grim chapter in a case that has horrified the public. Yoder had previously pleaded guilty to one count of neglect resulting in the death of a dependent and one count of domestic battery to a child. These charges were linked to the abuse suffered by Judah's younger sibling, further emphasizing the severity of the situation.    The child's father, Alan Morgan, had earlier pleaded guilty in 2022 to multiple felonies, including murder and battery, directly related to Judah's death. He received a 70-year prison sentence for his actions.    As part of her plea agreement with prosecutors, Mary Yoder admitted to physically and emotionally abusing both Judah and her other child. She also confessed to failing to intervene or contact authorities regarding her husband, who subjected Judah to torturous punishments regularly. During Friday's hearing, Yoder expressed remorse and stated that she missed her "sweet boy." However, Judge Alevizos reacted strongly, displaying a photo of Judah's autopsy and remarking, "Look at him. Unbelievable."    The horrific events came to light when authorities responded to a 911 call at Yoder and Morgan's rural home at around 3 a.m. on October 11, 2021. They found Judah's bruised and bloodied naked body wrapped in a blanket inside a bedroom. Yoder had made the call, informing the dispatcher that Morgan had become violent and harmed Judah.    Evidence presented at Alan Morgan's trial revealed a pattern of systematic abuse inflicted on Judah. The father frequently physically and emotionally abused his son, often locking him in a dark basement, naked, for extended periods due to toilet training issues. He also withheld food and water from the child and used duct tape to silence him. Surveillance footage from inside the home showed disturbing incidents of physical violence, with Morgan punching Judah multiple times.    Judah ultimately succumbed to blunt force trauma to the head, resulting in massive bleeding on his brain, as determined by an autopsy. Medical professionals described his injuries as among the most severe cases of blunt force trauma they had ever seen.    Inside the family's home, investigators discovered a basement with no working lights, containing a toddler potty training toilet, training pants, and a single blanket. The basement was covered in feces and remnants of torn duct tape, providing a harrowing glimpse into the suffering Judah endured.    Before the sentencing, Jenna Hullett, Judah's second cousin and foster mother, addressed the court, expressing her deep anger towards Mary Yoder. She had been forced to give up custody of Judah only months before his tragic death and had repeatedly reached out to Yoder, seeking help and intervention, which went unanswered.    This heart-wrenching case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of reporting child abuse and neglect, and the dire consequences that can result when such pleas for help go unheeded. The sentencing of Mary Yoder and Alan Morgan represents a form of justice for young Judah Morgan, but it also underscores the need for greater awareness and action to protect vulnerable children from abuse and harm. But many of Wisconsin's rural hospitals are facing headwinds in 2023 from the rural economy and labor shortages to funding issues and health inequity, says Alan Morgan, executive director of the National Rural Health Association. Will Stafford, the Washington representative for CHS, lists off the policy agenda and other lines Congress will likely add in the 2023 Farm Bill. He says while he has his hands full getting new members of Congress up to speed on ag policy, there is excitement surrounding this bill.  Extension beef specialist Bill Halfman says keep a close eye on your cattle, feedstuffs and shelters during this cold snap. GrassWorks President Kevin Mahalko says the 2023 Grazing Conference saw record attendance. Wisconsin continues to be a hub for hemp research, even having a hand in new resources, such as the Midwestern Hemp Database and the Emerging Crops Website. When Indiana DCS essentially forgot to terminate the rights of his biological parents, Judah was returned to the custody of his mother, Mary Yoder, and his father, Alan Morgan. Six months later, Judah was dead. This is the story of a joyful, jubilant little boy with warm brown eyes, curly blond hair, and adorably pinchable cheeks who loved singing and dancing, learning, and especially spending time with the family who loved him. It's also the story of yet another child protection agency yet again failing a child with fatal and undeniably preventable results. America's rural hospitals face an uncertain future. One in three are now at risk of closure as doctors and nurses quit, patients struggle to pay their medical bills and government covid subsidies stop. We hear from the front line of one rural hospital in Luray, Virginia. Travis Clark, the hospital's president, and Dr David Lee explain the everyday challenges facing patients and staff. Alan Morgan from the National Rural Health Association tells us why rural hospitals are struggling. Michael Cannon of the Cato Institute in Washington DC argues that rural hospitals should stop relying on subsidies and close their doors if they can't become more efficient. Baca-Motes describes how the All of Us Research Program, in which individuals provide their health data to an open-source health database, is accessed by researchers to improve health outcomes. Morgan notes that rural populations are traditionally left behind in medical research and that by participating in the All of Us Research Program, rural residents ensure that their specific health situations are addressed. Baca-Motes also discusses the optimal outcomes of the All of Us Research Program: getting medical and preventative care in more convenient locations and empowering rural communities to take care of their own health. Morgan notes that racial disparities come into play with rural communities, so rural people of color are doubly under-resourced. Baca-Motes says that the best way to reverse anti-science sentiment is getting information out to clinical staff and encouraging the positive influence of peers. Morgan stresses the importance of using data so that future generations don't encounter the health disparities found in rural areas right now. Michelle chats with Alan Morgan, CEO of the National Rural Health Association, about the impact of COVID-19 on rural health. The pandemic has been cited as the reason that several hospitals have closed recently. The common denominator in hospital closures prior to the pandemic is the fact that they are attempting to treat patients that are uninsured or underinsured, Morgan explains. One-third of the nation’s 2,000 rural hospitals are community hospitals, and count on local support to be able to recruitment and retain staff, often just to survive with razor thin margins, Morgan notes. COVID-19 has added a scary dimension to this mix. The CARES Act did not create a rural setaside, although rural hospitals could take advantage of a Medicare-based payment under the legislation. But each hospital receives a different amount of money, and that amount might be needed just to deal with cash flow issues that existed prior to the pandemic. That payment was facilitated under the direction of HHS Deputy Secretary Eric Hargan, who is scheduled to be a guest on Rural Mattes in May. NRHA has been extremely involved in dealing with the pandemic on several fronts, notes Morgan. NRHA is providing direct assistance to its members to link them up with PPE, for example. In addition. It has been sharing stories about rural hospitals with the public to give them a better idea about what hospitals in this space are going through.  Finally, NRHA officials have been advocating directly with lawmakers for rural health assistance. We look at the celebrations around the world and how Apollo 11's moon landing changed space flight forever.A moonstruck United States celebrated the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11's "giant leap" by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin at parties, races, ball games and concerts todayAt NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Aldrin showed Vice President Mike Pence the launch pad where he flew to the moon in 1969. At the same time halfway around the world, an American and two other astronauts blasted into space on a Russian rocket. And in Armstrong's hometown of Wapakoneta, Ohio, nearly 2,000 runners competed in "Run to the Moon" races."Apollo 11 is the only event in the 20th century that stands a chance of being widely remembered in the 30th century," the vice president said.Neil Armstrong's historic first steps on the moon, 50 years ago today. Photo / APWapakoneta 10K runner Robert Rocco, 54, a retired Air Force officer from Centerville, Ohio, called the moon landing by Armstrong and Aldrin "perhaps the most historic event in my lifetime, maybe in anybody's lifetime."At the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Gilda Warden sat on a bench and gazed in awe at the Apollo 11 command module, Columbia, on display."It's like entering the Sistine Chapel and seeing the ceiling. You want to just sit there and take it in," said Warden, 63, a psychiatric nurse from Tacoma, Washington.Neil Armstrong's iconic photograph of Edwin 'Buzz Aldrin' from the 1969 Apollo 11 mission which saw the first crew to land on the moon. Photo / APOn July 20, 1969, Armstrong and Aldrin undocked from Columbia in lunar orbit and then descended in the lunar module Eagle to the Sea of Tranquility. The Eagle landed with just 17 seconds of fuel to spare. Six hours later, Armstrong was the first to step onto the lunar surface, proclaiming for the ages: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."It was humanity's first footsteps on another world. In a speech at Kennedy, Pence paid tribute to Armstrong, Aldrin and command module pilot Michael Collins — if they're not heroes, "then there are no heroes" — as well as the 400,000 Americans who worked tirelessly to get them to the moon.Aldrin, 89, grabbed the right hand of Neil Armstrong's older son, Rick, at Pence's mention of heroes. He then stood and saluted, and received a standing ovation. Armstrong died in 2012. Collins, 88, did not attend the Florida ceremony. But Apollo 17's Harrison Schmitt, the next-to-last man to walk on the moon in 1972, was there.Pence reiterated the Trump administration's goal of sending American astronauts back to the moon within five years and eventually on to Mars. He said this next generation of astronauts will spend weeks and months on the lunar surface, not just days and hours like the 12 Apollo moonwalkers did. Alongside the stage was the newly completed Orion capsule that will fly to the moon and back, on a test flight without a crew, in another year or two.NASA had other celebrations going on today, most notably at Johnson Space Center in Houston, home to Mission Control; The US Space and Rocket Center next door to Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, where the Saturn V moon rockets were born; and the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum in Washington. And where better to celebrate than Apollo, Pennsylvania — located in Armstrong County not far from Moon Township and the town of Mars. The historical society revived the annual moon-landing celebration in honor of the big 50. All of the Apollo astronauts have long been honorary citizens of Apollo, the society's Alan Morgan said. The three crew members of Apollo 11 pose for a group portrait a few weeks before the launch, May 1969. Americans living in rural areas often face significant health inequities driven by barriers to accessing care including reduced health workforce, geographic distance to care centers, lack of infrastructure, and cultural factors inhibiting treatment. Dr. Marcia Brand, Senior Advisor at the DentaQuest Partnership for Oral Health Advancement, and Mr. Alan Morgan, CEO of the National Rural Health Association, help us understand that despite significant barriers, these communities often support some of the most innovative responses to care delivery in the U.S.

Roughly one in every six Americans (or approximately 51 million people) live in rural areas and depend upon the hospital in their community. However, rural hospitals face more and more closures with more than 120 rural hospitals shutting their doors since 2005. And when a hospital closes in a rural community, the impact reaches far beyond the increasingly limited options for health care that population faces. The National Rural Health Association (NRHA) is dedicated to fighting for a better future in rural America by providing leadership on rural health issues through advocacy, communications, education and research. In this episode of The Cerner Podcast, we’re joined by Alan Morgan, NRHA chief executive officer. Alan discusses the challenges that rural health care providers face and how they can position themselves to overcome some of these obstacles moving forward.

New host Michelle Rathman examines the state of rural health and the complex issue of rural hospital closures with Alan Morgan, Chief Executive Officer of the National Rural Health Association (NRHA). According to Rathman and the NRHA, about 60 million people are served by rural health care providers, running the gamut from the elderly to young families. Amid the pressures and challenges in rural health, Morgan notes there is some good news – increased innovation and a lot of new models and practices being implemented, such as utilizing the expertise of community health workers; integrating oral health into primary care; greater emphasis on chronic care management; and the growing application of telehealth solutions. New collaborations between rural hospitals and more urban and academic medical institutions are another positive development. But as Morgan explains, rural hospitals continue to close – 87 since 2010—and most of those will never re-open. In addition, more of the rural population is elderly; the need for behavioral health services is rising; the opioid crisis affects rural communities in a big way; and federal and state reimbursements for Medicare and Medicaid have been decreasing. Rathman and Morgan also discuss what happens to a rural community when its hospital closes and how stakeholders from all sectors of a community can come together to improve their health status. Morgan references recent research from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that highlights some “bright spots” in Appalachia where key health indicators show that some parts of this heavily rural area of the country are doing better than expected.
