Hey friends + welcome to another episode on the Your Brand of Beautiful Podcast! In case you're new, this is the podcast where we chat with women who have created their own unique version of a beautiful life, in hopes that their stories, life experiences, or insider tips might inspire others to do the same. This week, I got the chance to chat with Madeleine Raiford Holland about going from a Kitchen Table Breaking Point to a 7-Figure Family. Madeleine is the founder + CEO of MHM Luxury Properties, a 7 figure boutique Short Term Rental company. She's also the founder & CEO of MRH Education with a thriving community she helps to build their STR business empires. If you're anything like me, stories about women who hit their breaking point + decide to do something about it intrigues you. And also, the idea of investing in short term or vacation rental properties piques your interest! If so, you'll want to listen to this episode. Madeleine is sharing about the very moment everything changed for her: sitting at her kitchen table, after a hard week, with a 6 month old baby + a husband who was equally as filled with exhaustion as she was. Then, how from that moment, she got to where she is today -- owning 16+ properties + a 7-figure investment STR company. Madeleine also shares… About times when she flopped or struggled getting started in business. How to tell if you're a right fit for the STR biz + if it's a right fit for you. And how becoming big givers was a huge turning point in she + her husband's business. I hope you love this conversation and learn from it the way I did! Whether you're a college student walking to class aspiring to be an entrepreneur, a mama-preneur pushing a stroller while working from her phone, or a family wondering what it's like to operate fully in the entrepreneurial space and go into business with your spouse, this episode is for you. Welcome to another episode of the Your Brand of Beautiful Podcast — the place where we chat with women who have created their own unique version of a beautiful life, in hopes that their story might inspire others to do the same. This week, you're in for a real raw, candid conversation with Lindsey Epperly! If you're a listener from back when I owned a travel company, you might already know who Lindsey Epperly is… but if you're unfamiliar, she is the founder and Chairwoman of Jetset World Travel, a travel agency she grew from a one-woman operation into a team of 100. Lindsey was a mentor of mine, and someone who I deeply admire. And not just because of her fancy titles like earning two consecutive spots on the Inc. 5000 List of fastest-growing companies or being named to the Forbes Next 1000 List, but because she's a servant leader, a mamaprenuer, and a champion of anyone in the small business space. In our very candid chat today we're covering a lot of ground: from serendipity in life, sacrifice in business, and the false summits that as Lindsey put it, are sometimes what shows us what we're truly meant for. In this conversation we're chatting about: The way health issues manifest in our body during times of stress or sacrifice How motherhood shapes growth and evolution of entrepreneurship as women in business And how to know if it's time to make a transition in life, career, business, and more. My favorite part of this conversation (and what might be the cause of an emotional hangover) is when Lindsey — for the first time — shared with me her side of the story, as my mentor, when I decided to sell my travel company. Tune in and get ready to take notes from my friend, Lindsey Epperly! There is this universal truth that — no matter who you are, what you believe, or where you came from — no one experiences life without grief. Not even Mattie Jackson, daughter of country music icon, Alan Jackson, and now best-selling author, speaker, and podcaster. In September of 2018, Mattie became a widow at age 28 when she tragically and very suddenly lost her husband, Ben. Since then, she has used her work and her platform to share her grief, her healing, and her unshakeable faith with women and men across the country. Today, you're going to hear our conversation about walking Through The Valley of Grief, which is the title of her new 365 day devotional of Spiritual practices for hope in suffering. You'll hear us discuss things like: Motherhood and parenting journeys (from Mattie's family's humble beginnings and her mom's profound impact on her life, to Mattie's motherhood journey and what parts of her parent's parenting she plans to implement into her own family). The 4 spiritual practices to take you from broken and resentful to a restored relationship with and trust in God: Wail, Connect, Worship and then Hope (my personal favorite part here is the way Mattie describes How helplessness of realizing you're not in control after tragedy eventually, evolves to freedom). How to find and choose joy — and the indescribable happiness we can look for and even expect to find on the other side of the valley of grief… Mattie is salt of the earth and as humble as they come. I was touched while having this conversation with her, and I hope you have the same experience listening back to it! About Mattie Jackson-Smith: Mattie Jackson is a best-selling author, speaker, and podcaster with a degree in creative writing from the University of Tennessee. Tragically, she lost her husband of less than a year, Ben Selecman, in September 2018 after he suffered a traumatic brain injury while on vacation in Florida. Despite her grief, Mattie is pushing forward and has dedicated herself to helping others through her writing and podcast, In Joy Life with Mattie Jackson. Mattie is also the co-founder of philanthropic organization "NaSHEville,” which supports groups serving orphans, widows, and trafficked women. Mattie lives with her husband and son in Nashville, TN. Technologists who work on DTC and retailer.com sites spend a lot of time doing things like building personas, creating customer journey maps and service blueprints, and conducting usability studies. But if you're a brand selling your products on a retailer's platform, you don't need to worry about that, right? After all, you don't control the user experience.... or do you? While it's true that brands don't control the User INTERFACE of retailer eCommerce platforms, their product content, product data, and advertising interacts with it to create a unique User EXPERIENCE and ultimately shapes the path to purchase. This is an audio rebroadcast of a webinar focused on just that, led by Lauren Livak Gilbert, with guest experts Amanda Wolff, CRO at Jenda, and Bailie Duncan, Lead Product Owner at Jackson Family Wines.

Steve Bailie, Branch Manager for Helena Agri in Monroe, has been busy with his staff combing through combine harvest records for the past few weeks.  He says some farms have been surprised by the end result of what had been a challenging growing season.  With those surprises, though, comes questions about what nutrients were pulled from those fields and need to be replaced in 2025. Bailie is like many in agriculture, anxious about what might happen with fertilizer supplies and prices in the new calendar year.  He's encouraging all farms to work with their vendors on locking in prices and volumes as soon as you can.  Bailie's also reminding growers about the package effect that Helena Agri offers to any operation. Bailie says his tech team is still grid soil sampling to get precise rates on where that fertilizer has to go.  They're also evaluating each hybrid for every field to make sure resources aren't wasted.  Bailie uses the analogy of managing your herd.  Some of your animals are going to be top end milk producers.  Others may not be top end milk producers, but the produce fantastic calves.  Knowing what strengths and challenges every field faces helps manage resources and traits efficiently.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

With commodity prices where they are, growers cannot afford to guess about any element of that crop.  From seed to fertilizer and everything in between - you need a sharp pencil. Steve Bailie, Branch Manager in Monroe for Helena Agri, says they're happy to offer VRT (variable rate technology) to their customers to help find the "sweet spot" on production costs.  Technicians literally evaluate every component of a field to try and find the ideal combination, providing the best return on investment. Bailie says he's encouraging farms to get started on soil sampling now, as the crop comes off, to give you the best advantage on pre-purchasing for 2025.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

As our guest says in this episode, "alcohol is going to going to play way too big of a role in our adult life to not have a conversation about it." So, let's have a conversation about it! Joining me today is Melanie Farrell of Tastefully Buzzed. Melanie is a speaker for college women and she delivers the dreaded alcohol presentation everyone is obligated to sit through -- only with Melanie, it's not a conversation you'll dread at all! Melanie speaks from a place of knowing that no one wants another lecture that feels like a wrist-slap; instead, they want real, relatable, and actually encouraging content. In our conversation, you'll begin by hearing Melanie's personal testimony to finding a relationship with Christ. My challenge for you as you listen is this: consider where you see yourself in her story. Are you the girl in NEED of an uplifting friend, and maybe you need to be open to a “playground” change (you'll hear what Melanie means by that later in this episode)... OR are you someone who needs to shine your light to another girl who — maybe to be completely honest you've written her off as a lost cause? In the second half of our conversation, we'll chat around what it means to live Tastefully Buzzed, how alcohol plays a huge role in our life and how to handle that. We're also just chatting about how to bring more vibrancy into your life and relationships! All of this and more in my conversation with Melanie Farrell. If you haven't already heard Bailie's two-part interview, Episodes 49 and 50, give them a listen—you'll hear one of the most compelling and intriguing interviews of sexual assault and rape that will hold you spell-bound and awestruck. You don't need to listen to those episodes before you listen to this one, but definitely take the time to listen to Bailie's story on those two previous episodes; you'll have a much deeper understanding of Bailie if you do. I had the very fortunate privilege of meeting Bailie through my friendship with my regular monthly guest, Caroline Markel. Caroline is the founder and CEO of Safe in Harm's Way, an organization dedicated to providing victims and survivors of rape and sexual assault with resources, encouragement, and expertise in finding their way safely out of those dangerous and harmful interpersonal violence relationships. The story is that Caroline needed a break from the daily grind of running such an onerous organization and decided to go to Napa County to recoup. It was there that she met Bailie, who at the time was the Director of Training and Technical Assistance at LGBTQ Connection of Napa and Sonoma, California. And an instant connection and indelible bond was formed between the two...and, of course, Caroline encouraged me to get to know Bailie. I called her one afternoon and, again, an instant bond was formed. (That's just the way Bailie is!!) Earlier this month Caroline made a return trip to Napa, partly to visit with Bailie. When I found out that this re-connection was occurring, I immediately asked Caroline and Bailie if they would do a dual-SASS-recording with me from Napa while Caroline was there. Unfortunately, due to schedule issues this wasn't possible…but, just this week, after Caroline had returned to her home, we were able to schedule a time when the 3 of us could connect and record an episode…and here it is. We covered so very much that to synopsize the episode would be a time burdensome endeavor. Just know that this is an episode you won't want to miss! And write to me and let me know what you're thinking about this episode, about SASS, or about anything else you care to comment about. There's just so much we can benefit from hearing other peoples' thoughts and experiences and stories! But, do you know what NOT everybody loves? To read. Ha! Some of y'all out there (like my husband, for example) are just not readers -- but you can get down with a podcast or an audio book! So, that's what led me to these mini-episodes where I read entries straight from my online journal. This episode is from an entry I wrote at a time that I was coming out of a season of personal winter. I went into that season kicking and screaming... Anyone else relate? Sexual Assault Survivor Stories

Last week's episode featured a series of guests who, during their episode interviews, chose to recognize and celebrate the SASS format, its purposes and successes, and the healing benefits of being part of this podcast. I took clips of those episodes and compiled them into a succession of the comments that they made about the show. The episode was such a hit, and I received some great feedback and comments about the show, that I decided this week, as my first episode of this new year, to compile the remaining comments that the rest of my 2023 guests had made and put together a Part 2 as my first episode of 2024! As I mentioned last week, I couldn't be more thrilled and appreciative of the comments these guests made because it shows that my goals and purposes for this podcast are being met. And I also want to repeat that it is a blessing for me to be able to provide this platform for victims and survivors who willing to share their stories of rape and sexual assault. These narratives not only help the guests but also offer healing and growth to the listener. This week's clips are from the episodes of the following guests, in this order: Cashaye Barrera; Jessica Pride; Caroline Markel Hammond (Part 2); Emily Stroia; Abigail Alvarado; Bailie; Scarlett Robinson; Lee Cooper; Ruthie Uhl; Ashleyann Garcia; and Yri Stafylaki. For me, as the host and producer of this SASS, I am elated at the success and growth of this show. 2023 truly was a year of growth beyond my wildest dreams. And because of the accomplishments that have been attained, I am looking forward to even more opportunities for not only growth, but an expansion of what this podcast will be providing in the coming months. 2024 is going to be an incredible year for exciting collaborations and alliances that will further the growth of community and camaraderie for both past and future guests, as well as for my entire listening community. You can be a part of the growth by subscribing to this show, giving the show a rating, and by telling everyone you know about the amazing healing that is taking place. As always, please remember to Start by Believing in order to help bring justice to victims and survivors of rape and sexual assault. And please remember to subscribe and rate Sexual Assault Survivor Stories on the platform you use. So, all of this helps the show to grow and reach more people; thank you! davemarkel@gmail.com #thrivivors #thejanbrobergfoundation #janbroberg #safeinharmsway #epizonstrategy #intentionallyfearless #thelastimsorry #feelingsmall #sasspodcast #retiredcop #traumainformed #traumainformedexpert #sexassaultvictim #survivorsunite #rapevictim #sexualassaultsurvivorstories #podcast #markelconsulting #jessicapridelawfirm #gettraumainformed #safeinharmsway #projectbeloved #saan #irishangel #crimevictimsassistancecenter #coloradoassociationofsexcrimeinvestigators #girlsfightback #outdoordefense #worthfightingfor #thejanbrobergshow #thrivivors #thejanbrobergfoundation #sassyselfdefenseguide #badassselfdefense #imworthfightingfor #vawa #ashforduniversity #amandacoleman #remembermolly #fightrapeculture #forcescience
