The Church of the SubGenius Radio Ministry seeks to brainwash you totally into abject lifelong subservience to The High Epopt and Living SlackMaster, J. R. "Bob" Dobbs, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.
Internet Version: 1:09:07 THIS EPISODE IS NOT BROADCAST-RADIO-FRIENDLY! Broadcast stations are welcome to it, but you'd better have a finger on the bleep button. I, Stang, am writing this blurb. I did not, however, create this episode. It was the idea of Rev. peas, who solicited contributions from any listener who would listen, and I believe it was edited by Rev. Fidd Chewley. IT IS AMAZING! It's full of songs and rants that I never heard before, and I was indeed honored to hear it. I was honored THE HELL OUT OF IT! Nobody provided a list of the contributors, but it's a lot of old-timers and newcomers. My favorite clip is Nenslo talking about what a jerk I am. Papa Joe Mama's closing statement is also extremely... climactic. (Wait for it...) Anyway, Happy New World to everyone. When I decided to end my weekly torture sessions last June, that gave me TWENTY HOURS OF FREE SLACK PER WEEK, and let me tell you, it's been GREAT!!! I used all those hours for Slack, yes I did. For one thing, I became a Graphic Artist again... a graphic RIP-OFF ARTIST, using these amazing new A.I. art toys that drive so many real artists mad with anger. But see, the kind of artist I have always been is a BULLSHIT ARTIST. So these apps are perfect for me. I occasionally post the results on my personal Facebook page or on Dobbs.town, but mostly I'm just having fun. Playing in the new sandbox. My health has improved too. My bad back has improved since we started walking the dogs and cats again... four dogs on leashes and three cats skulking furtively like ninjas in the woods around us. That was one of my main goals: just being able to walk the dogs around the ranch again. We had a TERRIBLE summer, with record heat and drought, and no rain for 3 months, and WeiMawMaw, Princess Wei's mom, boarded the Saucers at age 93. Actually that was not terrible -- she was good and ready. What a great Mom she was. I'm still filling SubGenius orders, being the Sacred Scribe, answering emails, and coming up with lots of funny bulldada with my old pals on our own little Old Fellers forum, but posting this show is the first time I've turned on my ancient radio-making machines in six months! Luckily, I got a new phone and repaired hearing aids with an extra gizmo, so I was able to actually hear this tribute show -- IN STEREO YET, something that hasn't been possible for some time, because I was basically one-eared for years. My social media activity is mostly restricted to people I know personally now. "I gave at the office" and I'm taking it easy now. Rev. Dr. Uncle Onan Canobite will be Sacred Scribe #274 when I croak or go into an iron lung or whatever, so, when that happens, do what he and Philo say, unless DObbs tells you otherwise. THANKS FOR LETTING ME RANT! Thanks for HELPING me rant! Thanks for ranting and bullshitting along with me! I don't want to get all weepy, but gol durn if I could possibly imagine a more fun, surprising and interesting life and career. If I could change anything, I wouldn't. PRAISE "BOB" and all the SubGeniuses I know thanks to him!!! And special extra thanks to my oldest old bud, Dr. Philo Drummond! -- without whom NONE of us would know "Bob"!
RADIO SAFE VERSION - Is this really Hour of Slack #1998, finished on July 4? If you don't hear another show next week, it means Stang and Philo were Ruptured up into the Escape Vessels of the Sex Goddesses from Planet X and have better things to do than The Hour of Slack. This episode features the second part of the Philo Drummond guest hosting, readings from the Dobbstown Mirror, a repeated message about X-Day, The Swingin' Love Corpses, and Bob Dylan. This show ends as our radio careers began: Philo and Ivan talking. Even if we board the saucers tomorrow we can still stream the occasional special show, sermons, or dog opera.

RADIO SAFE VERSION. The possibly short future of The Hour of Slack is the subject of a very, very informal chat between Rev. Stang and Dr. Drummond. It is interspersed with some fine music and, unfortunately, yet more SubGenius obituaries. Newly unearthed versions of Swinging Love Corpses classics are revealed. The amazing guitar medley at the beginning was misidentified by Stang; the band is Shadowy Men from a Shadowy Planet, and the medley may have been recorded at CKLN-Toronto.

X-Day Drill, July 5, Conspiracy Year 1998 - A broken Rev. Susie the Floozie survived the bitter disappointment of the world not ending on that prophesied day, and as therapy, she created this classic episode of her show on WREK-Atlanta, "Bob's" Slack Time Funhouse. Her uncanny ability to pluck pertinent lines from old TV shows and edit them into a new story is certainly on display here. Susie also plays herself and her terrible alter ego Evil Susie, who is even more sadistic than Conky, the evil alter ego puppet of beloved Trailer Park Boy, Bubbles. She utilized several blues and torch songs by superstar women singers of yore, who unfortunately go uncredited in this truncated version of her original 1.5 hour show. It is RADIO SAFE.
RADIO SAFE VERSION - 13X-Day Drill, July 3, Conspiracy Year 2010 - we recorded an Hour of Slack show on stage before a live audience with Dr. Hal, Rev. Susie the Floozie, Dr. Philo Drummond, Lonesome Cowboy Dave and Rev. Ivan Stang. Except for Puzzling Evidence, these are the SubGenii to blame for the three hoary SubGenius radio shows that have been on the air for decades -- up to three decades, in fact. That show is intercut with new collages by Rev. Heart Ignition, sermons from 13 X-Day by Rev. D. Lister and Rev. Richard Skull, and a jam/song by 6 Fisted Tails of Connie (Philo, Pisces, Rev. Angry Larry, Rev. Suds Pshaw, Rev. Phil, Rev. Bunny Day on this particular line-up).

Rerun of #534 (1996)! We are now off-world (or about to be), and refuse to produce new shows. Instead, we present a beloved oldie. And we are presenting it two weeks early, as we will be either on the Saucers or at Starwood, and won't want to mess with posting shows then. Back in 1996, just before the very first X-Day Drill at Brushwood, Stang assembled this ultimate X-Day collage, song and rant special, utilizing the best UFO-related clips from our old Media Barrage albums (from the 1980s!) as well as the finest new stuff of the time, such as Nenslo's X-Day anthem and Papa Joe Mama's first X-Day sermon. You'll hear the infant voices of Puzzling Evidence, Dr. Philo Drummond, Dr. Hal, Satellite Weavers, Pope David N. Meyer, Buck Naked... all the Churchly old-timers back when they were mere 30-somethings and even 20-somethings. It is a trip back in time -- and yet, a trip into a BRAVE BRAVE FUTURE!
Our friend Sister Melodious Chops rather suddenly boarded the Saucers last week, and this is an obituary show. She was more widely known, especially in the Cleveland music scene, as Vicky Ganger. Her folk trio, Victoria Ganger and Revelry, included Princess Wei 'R.' D'oh. Besides recordings some of the best hymns to "Bob" (and Connie), Vicky composed dozens of funny, touching, and inspirational songs, which she and the two Revelry Chicks performed at many Ohio clubs, SubGenius devivals, and especially the pagan music festivals Starwood and Winterstar. She was a treasured part of both the SubGenius and pagan weirdo communities, which overlap quite a bit in some places, and she will be sorely missed. This episode features her three "Bob" (and Connie) songs and several of her whimsical songs about modern life, especially the Internet. Also included is a Zappa medley performed by The Empire Jazz Orchestra... which is conducted by our pal Rev. Billy, a recent guest at Stang Ranch.
Poor overworked Rev. Stang had to get this show done lickety-split, and the fastest way to do that is to turn on the recorder and talk fairly carefully for an hour straight without cussing. Well, he tried. He managed not to cuss, but there were... interruptions. Nonetheless there's a great deal of SubGenius general news and specific Foundation news, some great quotes n' quips n' wit n' wisdom (not from SubGenius sources), and quite a few more koans, slaxioms, and even rants, from both the latest Dobbstown Mirror zine and formerly secret inner-Church Hierarchy discussions. Stang still didn't quite fill a whole hour. so there's a clip tacked on at the end from the podcast My Family Thinks I'm Crazy.
RADIO SAFE VERSION. There's news of the 2022 X-Day Drill in Hannibal, NY at the beginning, but most of this rerun is heavy collage work by many pros focused on "Bob." Brain-bleeding stuff. There are also stretches from WCSB's ESO Swamp Radio (Chas, Lonecow Dave, StangDoe) recorded during that one war. Might as well be this current one, or ANY war. Funny how all the war shows are One War Fits All, and apply equally across the board, if the listener can hear past the names of the Presidents then current.

RADIO SAFE VERSION: Rev. Stang has been busy with video projects, book projects, broken projectors, a dried-up dryer, a late Medicare payment, the rewiring of the DobbsHed shed with the ancient tapes in it, in 100 degree heat, and, he must mail all those orders to Australia, AGAIN, now that the paranoid Covid mail ban has been lifted there and also in New Zealand. Both of which nations host many SubGeniuses. ANYWAY... here is what Rev. Stang wrote about this episode right after he threw it together from carefully crafted individual pieces, in 2003: "This is The Greatest Hour of Slack Ever. I know I often say that, but this time it's true for sure. The live ESO shows of the last 3 weeks have been WAR TALK and X-Day Hankerin'. The best in those veins that wasn't TOTALLY stupid, yet was still gut-blowingly hilarious - yet horrifying, considering the subject matter - went into this one. Also, Mister F. Le Mur cranked out noise like he previously cranked out art. I guess Le Mur is now the Slack man's Terry Gilliam to the Slack man's Monty Python, in that he does a lot of the show, yet he's never heard. "This show furthermore contains an Artemia Salina chop-up which should get lots of future replay as it's copied and bounced around audio sarcasm collectors. And, the newly Hour of Slacked Hank Flloyd and the Swerving Headlights presents yet ANOTHER great alien abduction C&W ballad."

RADIO SAFE VERSION. First, it's part two of four from the recent podcast called "My Family Thinks I'm Crazy," in which Rev. Stang had a lot of fun with the young weirdos hosting it. Then, from the Puzzling Evidence show on KPFA Berkeley, in the year of 2013, Dr. Drummond, Dr. Hal, and D. Woodman Atwell tell THE TRUTH ABOUT HEDY LAMAR! It gets mixed later with samples of Ask Dr. Hal Show with Michael Peppe, Ed Holmes, and Rusty Rebar.

RADIO SAFE VERSION. Two completely different half hours! One is part of a recent interview with Ivan Stang on the video podcast My Family Thinks I'm Crazy, mostly talking about the old days of SubGenius. Lying, actually. The other is an Ask Dr. Hal show on Radio Valencia from around 2013 with Dr. Hal, Puzzling Evidence, Rusty Rebar, Bubba-Free-Im-Ho-Peppe Michael Peppe, the late Pete Goldie, Dr. Philo Drummond, and Bishop Joey. It's NOT about the old days.

Your regular host and prayer partner Rev. Ivan Stang is too busy with life, the universe and everything, to blather out a new show, plus, he already underwent two podcast interviews in last two weeks, so maybe we'll play those in the future. But THIS is the past -- it's October 11, 2013, and we're listening to OverMan First Degree Dr. Philo Drummond, the sole guest that night in the KPFA Berkeley studio of The Puzzling Evidence Show. Later in the show, Dr. Hal and Michael Peppe join by phone to rock and shine both boat and boot.
Over the Edge / SubGenius: "The Church of the SubGenius: The Next 100 Years." This is the first part of a 5 hour marathon historic weekend at Sulphur Palms Resort, MCed by Bud Good of the Universal Media Netweb (with Don Joyce, Negativland), broadcast on KPFA, Berkeley, CA, 12-27-2002. Conference participants: LIES, Puzzling Evidence, Bishop Joey (Church of the Last Laugh), Dr. Philo Drummond, Gary G'Broagfran, Princess Wei R. Doe, Rev. Ivan Stang, Rev. Michael Peppe, Rev. Rob on the Organ.
Once again, everything that was happening in this thousand-show-old rerun from 2003 is STILL HAPPENING! Why should poor bent old Rev. Stang stay up all night at his age editing new Show, when the old ones from twenty years ago are MORE MODERN AND NEW? Moreover, at rural Stang Ranch, the Sacred Scribe has had to deal with one crisis per week, such as wildfires, goat sized hail, and sonic tornadoes. This episode is heavy on the ESO Swamp Radio from WCSB Cleveland (during the Iraq war) but is also rife with insane collage work by LeMur and others, plus some real surprises such as "Bob" songs by NoMeansNo and Mick Jagger, and startlingly timely clips from ancient anti-fascist propaganda cartoons! Incidentally, the CD copies of this show are inexplicably about a minute and a half longer than the digital file copies. If anyone can explain that, please do!(Radio safe.)
It must be "Bob's" will that we were forced by events beyond our control to do a rerun yet again, because this is an especially good one we'd have totally forgotten about otherwise. The ESO Swamp Radio spouting this show was done in early 2003, a few days after the tragic Columbia space shuttle explosion... and yet the space collage by Chas Smith which is also in the show predates it, from around 1998.Special thanks to all the arteests who contributed the collages, especially Fernandinande LeMur.
This is a rerun from last February... the last February of the year 2001. ("2001"-- boy, did those promises NOT come true.) It's SubGenius old-school, and we suspect the old school had better school supplies. Digesting this particular show requires ferreting out the threads of the "theme," that being Early Man: the paleoanthropology of the cave SubGeniuses and their vile vermin pets, the human cave persons. It then morphs into transgender themes of yesteryear, and culminates in the most scientific and indisputable twelve minutes the Church has ever produced: Dr. Ahmed Fishmonger's revelations concerning the Mutron.
Rerun of #868 from 2002 -- so it's an old and very different war, but some things never change. A little bit of everything: ESO Swamp Radio, Puzzling Evidence, Zoogz Rift, a lotta LeMur, Heart Ignition, The Swinging Love Corpses, Heart Ignition, Drexel and so much more. This was when Prof. Chas Smith, Zoogz, and frequent caller Dr. Dark were all still on this earthly plane, and Lonesome Cowboy Dave wasn't really lonesome at all. We couldn't do a new show this week because our old guard dog Buddy got in a civil war with other dogs, and lost, so Stang was busy nursing the battered mutt. Buddy is okay though.

Stang reads lots of Onan from The Dobbstown Mirror (Oct. "2021" issue) and interspurts it with short Lemurian and Prefian collages pieces and new music by Rubix Pube, Bob Walkenhorst, and The Rudy Schwartz Project. There's also old music by The Swingin' Love Corpses and Mandre, and an old rant by the young Dr. G. Gordon Gordon. Radio OK!
RADIO-SAFE VERSION. Big news about X-Day "2022"! (See subgenius.com/newdevivals aka Events.) The hardcover collector's edition of THE AGENT AND MR. DOBBS is now available! (See subgenius.com/scatalog/books ) A new Rubix Pube album is out (two songs from that), as well as a new Bob Walkenhorst song. The Rudy Schwartz Project's instrumental will make you mental, and, Stang reads the finale of AGENT -- but you'll have to buy the book to see the REAL ending, and the second novella: THE AGENT GOES TO DOBBSTOWN! http://subgenius.com

STORYTIME! Music by Rubix Pube, The R.A.T.H.O.L.E. clench, and The Rudy Schwartz Project provide relief from Stang's readings from the just-published SubGenius novel, THE AGENT AND MR. DOBBS by Rev. Teeters LaVerge. http://subgenius.com
A NEW X-DAY REVELATION is unraveled! The whole episode is Stang's annual sermon to the Winterstar Symposium -- the 31st one. It was delivered via Zoom, so the laughter or anger of the audience watching Stang on their screens can't be heard. It is however a full-on pulpit-pounding rant, this particular one derived largely from "text jams" between old SubGenius Doktors such as Dr. Philo Drummond and Rev. Uncle Dr. Onan Canobite. (And Stang reads a pure Onan rant at the end.) Included is an old-school Mass Short Duration Marriage, cult-style, albeit a bit awkward due to being done remotely rather than with the congregationists being able to physically grope one another. YOU WON'T BELIEVE the new news about X-Day!
RADIO SAFE VERSION. PART TWO OF THE NEW "LIVE" EPIC TWO-PARTER EPISODE! Stang reads the first chapter of our new book, the SubGenius mystery novel THE AGENT AND MR. DOBBS by Rev. Teeters LaVerge. We continue the conversation with Lonesome Cowboy Dave, but frequently cutting to sound clips that were referenced, such as a long classic clip of The Firesign Theatre from their second album, How Can You Be In Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere at All. An interesting aspect of Ennio Morricone's score for The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly is revealed. The infamous Drs. 4 Wotan cover of "Louie Louie" is excerpted then followed by a live recitation by Poo Water Towel. The rest of the latest Sheridan media barrage gets used. PEAS IS MENTIONED! TWICE! The episode ends with an amazing recording of the late Stang Ranch hound dog Dammett doing vocal howl battle with a band of coyotes... probably the best part.

A NEW "LIVE" EPIC TWO-PARTER EPISODE! Lonesome Cowboy Dave can't talk, and Rev. Ivan Stang can't hear. Not the best formula for a successful modern podcast aimed at 13-year-olds, perhaps, and yet on we strive. There's some news, or perhaps just promises, or even some lies, -- indeed, probably all three; also, music from the Stang family, and from Dave's ill-named band. Our new book, the mystery novel THE AGENT AND MR. DOBBS by Rev. Teeters LaVerge, is officially announced as now existing in hardcover. Excerpts are read. Stay tuned for Part Two. subgenius.com
NOT A RERUN! -- and all safe for broadcast, at least in terms of language if not ear or mind health. Sheridan contributed another of his collage shows, but some of it made Stang even more deaf than he was before -- so those noisy sections have been replaced by some clips from old ESO Swamp Radio (also from Cleveland) with host Chas Smith, Lonesome Cowboy Dave and Rev. Ivan Stang. http://subgenius.com
RADIO SAFE VERSION - PROOF that the Sacred Scribe, the OverMan, and the The SubGenius Foundation chief officers in general are still alive and well, almost like “Bob” himself! On Jan. 18 “2022,” on his way to do some consulting at an arms conference, Dr. Philo Drummond himself choppered in to the helipad at Stang Ranch to do some Show recording with Rev. Stang and Princess Wei ‘R' Doe in Tarzan's Radio Station at Fossil House. As planned, the supernatural Blessings of Dobbs, a few goat rides, and some great Mexican food at Los Primos drove the old Doktors into Spouting mode, resulting in this hour of pure revealed wisdom and divine trivia. http://subgenius.com

This episode is not a rerun. We broke out of the thousand-episode-old-rerun RUT, and editor Stang's broken and swollen body parts are healing, even possibly mutating slightly. This is a NEW show, but by the mysterious entity in deepest Cleveland who goes by the name SHERIDAN. It is INTENSE, and there is no explanation of its various ingredients, which are all over the sonic map. We hope to fire up Tarzan's Radio Station next week and start recording new shows again with call-in guests like Lonesome Cowboy Dave, who like Stang is not quite dead yet. Susie the Floozy on Connie, The Sterrills, ESO Radio with Bishop Joey from the First Church of the Last Laugh, and much much more unmoored. ALL RADIO SAFE. http://subgenius.com
RADIO SAFE VERSION! What are the holidays without Slack and reruns? Sappy, nostalgia-provoking reruns on TV are what Christmas is all about, right? Plus, it gives us a break. This is the hoary old annual traditional Xmas Re-Rerun of #867 (and 921 and 1026, 1077, 1129, 1236, 1338, 1497, 1549, 1602, 1654, 1705, 1758, 1810 etc.), which was itself a condensation of some ancient year's 3-show "Best of Xmas Sickness" compilation, which were themselves the concentrated best-of from 15 years' worth of previous Xmas SubGenius and other Xmas weirdo collections, going back to the show's beginning in 1985 at KNON, Dallas. Includes over 66 separate tracks/songs/bits! And no, not one bit has been changed in all these years. Now that's Slack! http://subgenius.com

One COULD say that every SubGenius radio show was a spin-off from another SubGenius radio show, in a kind of endless Uroborus circle jerk. If Rev. Susie the Floozie's "Bob's" Slack Time Funhouse spun off Hour of Slack (which was preceeded by The Puzzling Evidence Show), The Lymph Node Institute was by far the best of several Funhouse spin-offs. This example proves it. Prepare to use your brain in a new, albeit not NECESSARILY better, way. Probably better. The music and ranting between songs -- just perfect! We'll do fresh shows again someday. This thousand-episode-old show is probably better, though. This one has a little of everything plus a couple of amazingly well done "Bob" hymns that haven't been heard in a long time, and two (!) classic sermons by Father Joe Mama. Lots of ESO Swamp Radio with Chas, Dave, Stang and Wei, The Swingin' Love Corpses, Zoogz Rift, Little Fyodor, The Pink Boyz, and some old-timey Stang ranting. Stang, incidentally, is not dead, just taking it real easy for a change. http://subgenius.com
A rerun of a rerun of a rerun! We must wonder how deep they'll eventually go, drilling into the past -- perhaps to avoid an uncertain future? Or just to reanimate greatness long thought extinct, like the recreation of mammoths from frozen DNA? Perhaps an even more pertinent question: who cares? HoS #447 (rerun as #859 in 2002) was a 1994 compilation of some of the best bits from the 1991 Hour of Slack and KPFA shows regarding the Gulf War, with some things that came later, especially a collage video by Patriris. A highlight is the Kyle Kossup song, "America Feels Good About Itself." Some 2002 live ESO radio on the then-current War Thing fills it out. It is uncanny how perfectly appropriate the January 1991 Gulf War material sounded in October 2002 and now sounds in 2021. http://subgenius.com

Great Preachin' (rerun of #857) -- TIME TRAVEL IS POSSIBLE! For instance, Rev. Stang practices extreme Time Control to buy himself extra Life Time by exposing new audiences to these classic recordings, rather than breaking his back further by sweating over a hot hot-splicer (or digital editing system, as the case may be). This way, the new generation of adults -- that is, people the age of Stang and Co.'s great-great-grandchildren -- are privileged to hear the kind of wisdom of the ancients that is normally prohibited now. Don't believe us? JUST WAIT ANOTHER 20 YEARS and you'll see: everything in so-called "current events" and "the news" repeats itself! -- just a little worse each time. http://subgenius.com

Back in them days of 2002 A.D., when our spines were stout and strong and straight, there were so many audio contributions coming in from so many artists, and so many subjects covered on the various other SubGenius-related shows (especially WCSB's ESO Swamp Radio) that we were making 'theme' shows. The most common subjects were "Bob," the Conspiracy, whatever war was going on at the time, aliens, apocalypses, and, of course, sex. That's what this is; but "love" sounded more atypical for Hour of Slack. Music includes Consortium of Genius, ESO,n The Swingin' Love Corpses, Elvis Presley, The El Queso All-Stars, the Broadway cast of "Guys n' Dolls," StAllio, Heart Ignition, The Bran Flakes, Mark Mothersbaugh, and The Rainmakers. LeMur collages collide with the listener's inner brain. It's radio-safe. http://subgenius.com
It was gonna be a LOVE show, but we were distracted. It's radio-safe. http://subgenius.com
