Today, I have been GRIPPED by the urge to talk about cereal. Coincidentally, cereal is the focus of one of the films we review (it's not a coincidence). In an attempt to curb option paralysis, I am gustatorially unadventurous. But when I consider the myriad cereals on supermarket shelves, I can with confidence claim to have sampled the vast majority. Lit and watered by its nostalgic roots, cereal outgrows its edi-bedfellows. I han't and won't nibble upon such transatlantications as Count Chocula and the Froot Loop. Some of the products I soon mention will be American, but these FEEL American and a residual nationalism casts doubt upon their virtue. As red is the protagonist of the colours and the apple the principal of the fruits, the cereal Don to me will always be Coco Pops. It's been over a decade since our last acquaintance and I weep for all that is lost. It was touched by milk. So milk it too touched. Rice Krispies - the underboss, a worthy second whose wings are clipped by choclessness. Frosties - the third leg of that elementary triumvirate, Tony long since usurped by similar beasts (Crunchy Nut). METAPHOR SHIFT Corn Flakes - the granddaddy, the soggy stalwart and what a vile procession of words. Bran Flakes & Special K - the boring and fun parents, respectively, rightly concerned with the movement of one's bowels. Cheerios & Shreddies - good kids but nobody's favourites, are they? Shredded Wheat - the "different" cousin of whom we are nonetheless fond. METAPHOR SHIFT Weetabix - a wonderful teacher in the rewards of patience. Weetos - a lover whose time in one's life is certain to be short-lived. Because you love her so much. It can't be good for you. And good things like this don't last. Not for you... not for you. And Sugar Puffs - a relic of HOME, a place long gone but forever nestled behind our lives, that place we privately mourn, that pl-- I just found out that Sugar Puffs are now called Honey Monster Puffs. What the FUCKING FUCK?! They come for it all, don't they? METAPHOR COLLAPSE I'm hobbled by the character limit but believe me, I have more to say. On this ep, Jordan and I discuss ERIC, UNFROSTED and uvvers.

The panel look at what has developed into a farcical situation, and just how Klopp goes about preparing for a big match on a big weekend of Premier League action that will see the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United, and the possibility of ex-Reds keeper Scott Carson going in goal for Manchester City at Leicester City given Ederson's potential unavailability. Plus, the panel debate the cereal they'd choose if they had to quarantine in a hotel for 10 days (BRAN FLAKES?!), and why Klopp's take on Gareth Southgate's Trent Alexander-Arnold was spot-on.Get exclusive podcasts direct to your inbox every week for FREE by joining the Blood Red Club. Dig It - Discussions on Gardening Topics

Show notes for Bedding Plants with Stuart LowenIn this episode we chat with Stuart Lowen, Marketing Manager from Ball Colegrave. We look at how bedding plants have evolved over the years as well as examine many of the traditional bedding schemes we still enjoy in our gardens. Stuart explains how plant breeding has changed the way we grow one of our most loved summer plants, the Busy Lizzy or Impatien. Stuart provides an insight into how bedding plants come to the market place and the way they are assessed in the garden trade. We investigate how pansies and violas have changed the face of our gardens in the winter and early spring, plus a look at what's in store in the future as our gardens become smaller yet our appetite for growing colourful plants throughout the year grows.Plants mentionedTraditional varieties: Alyssum, African and French Marigolds , Lobelia and Salvia. Centre planting suggestions Cordyline (Draceana), Standard Fuchsia, Canna and Musa (banana).Begonia tuberous and Begonia Non Stop. Good varieties to look out for include Pansy ‘Matrix' and the hanging basket trailing variety ‘Cool Wave' as well as the Viola ‘Sorbet' varieties. The Award of Garden Merit (AGM) is a long-established annual award for plants by the British Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). It is based on assessment of the plants' performance under UK growing conditions. Look out for the trophy symbol on a plant's label or packet of seeds which shows that it has earned the prestigious AGM!Fleuroselect is the international organisation for the ornamental plants industry. Each year it invites growers to submit their new varieties for judging. If a judged plant is deemed exceptional then it is awarded the prestigious Gold medal, which usually is promoted on the plant label.Floral Olympic Torch display at Manchester Airport was created to help drive the bid to stage the Olympic games in Manchester in 2000. According to a 2015 survey, around 6.9% of the Japanese population eats cereal for breakfast. In fact, the easy-to-prepare breakfast might not have even reached Japan — where many still prefer a rice-based breakfast — had it not been for the Kellogg Company. The company had its start at Battle Creek Sanatorium in Michigan. Battle Creek was run by health advocate John Harvey Kellogg along with his brother W.K. Kellogg. In 1894, they invented the wheat flake. By 1905, they were selling over 150 cases a day. W.K. Kellogg launched a competitor company in 1906. This company prioritized advertising and by 1907 had increased previous revenues 20-fold. W.K. then successfully sued his brother for use of the Kellogg name, rebranding his company as Kellogg Toasted Corn Flake Company. When the Kellogg Company was created in 1922, it already had two successes: Bran Flakes in 1915 and All Bran in 1916. By the 1940s, Kellogg's had expanded across the world to become the largest manufacturer of cold cereals. Sales doubled for Kellogg's in the 1950s and '60s, thanks to the baby boom and the introduction of child-oriented cereals like Sugar Frosted Flakes and Cocoa Krispies. Kellogg's also adopted Frosted Flakes' popular Tony the Tiger mascot during this time. (Jasmin Hayward) To be continued… This article was provided by The Japan Times Alpha.

Season 2, Episode 1: We Need to Talk About Psychics and Mediums

Screwed Up

Guys, we need to talk about psychics and mediums. A good portion of QAnon conspiracies and disinformation within New Age was and is spread by "psychics" making prophetic claims that never happen, without anyone ever holding them accountable for it. The responsibility that psychics and mediums have is particularly important, because they will often times have a LOT of followers who will also too often believe and trust them over their own family, friends, and/or experts. In this episode, Mimi and Dr. Lana take their experiences within psychic and medium communities to talk about the responsibilities that comes with making claims to be psychic or having mediumistic abilities on social media, especially in 2021. How do we personally know about what this responsibility entails, you might ask? Because in 2016, Mimi created the short lived online community Psychic Punx, where they and other mediums, including Dr. Lana Holmes, would “interview” or channel well-known spirits on YouTube, including spirits of colour. The project was sincere and an expression of who we were at the time, but because the world and our own values have changed and evolved since, we felt that it was important to do an episode on this topic and to speak on it from experience.  What you will not hear us do in this episode is debate whether the supernatural exists or not, whether psychics and mediums are frauds or not, or what psychic and mediumship phenomenon is or isn't. We are simply going to discuss the world of online psychics and mediums based on what we have observed and experienced ourselves, and make it clear what our own beliefs on the matter are, which nobody has to agree with. The views that are expressed in this podcast are entirely our own. We had a few technical difficulties getting this episode together, including recording it a first time and not being able to use the recording due to faulty technology. We're so happy to finally bring you our first show of Season 2!   Besides hearing us say “this is for another episode!” a lot, here's the episode rundown: It's Season 2! You know you've officially “made it” when you get hate mail! Lana explains what the “ego” actually is On the emotional and spiritual responsibility that any new age influencer should have and be accountable to in 2021: Seeing challenging or opposing views as a gift, not a threat Humility and the ability to admit wrongdoing Emotional accountability: this thing New Agers do of blaming spirits or Mercury Retrograde as an explanation for their feelings On how mixing New Age and social media can make your spirituality stagnant: Having your ego constantly flattered (both on social media and as new age influencer) can be a conduit for ego-boosting, narcissism, or illusions of grandeur rather than growth. The example of Teal Swan and her continued belief that she is an alien who was chosen to be white and beautiful to be “more accessible” On Psychics and Mediums: Psychics, mediums, and the human bias. Can white mediums do spirits of colour or trans spirits justice, in 2021, by claiming to publicly speak for them? As a non-binary person, Mimi questions why mediums are not thinking outside the box more and looking to the future rather than sticking to outdated, traditional schools of thought that do not represent today's consciousness and progressive ideas. On how consumers of New Age can make a difference too: Get REALLY clear about what you will accept and no longer accept or support, as someone who is a consumer of spirituality, wellness, psychics, mediums, yoga, etc. Think about your values and what you look for in a teacher or mentor or someone to look up to for spiritual guidance Are the people you support consistent in their messages? Do they for example claim to have compassion for humanity but then boast about not wearing masks?     Credits: Recorded on March 12, 2021 Produced and edited by Mimi Bonhomme End credit music by The Bran Flakes

STARRING REV. NICKIE DEATHCHICK!! A good all-purpose rerun of #774 from 2001, centered around various Time Control lessons, adoration of Connie Dobbs, the clock in your forehead, Rev. Nickie Deathhick's sexy sermons from the 2001 Tucson Oasis Devival, and some classic ESO Radio clips in which we describe the strange events at said Tucson devival. EARTH NEEDS WOMEN! This episode is also loaded with collages by Lemur, Amazonia Protectrix, Nu-Monet, and Jupiter Research; we also hear Rush Limbaugh sing "I'm a Nazi," and some music (and news) from The Bran Flakes. Rev. Bleepo Abernathy's Time Control ad is a cornerstone and the capstone is Rev. Nickie Deathchick's bonus XXX-rant at the end: "My Blow Jobs Are So Good..."

In the archive of old shows this one had a note scrawled on it: "GOOD ONE!" It features some fine excerpts from the Puzzling Evidence and ESO Swamp Radio shows of the time, early 2001, as well as truly bizarre music (The Bran Flakes, Great Groovy Neptune, The Band That Dare Not Speak Its Name, Big Mess Orchestra), a rant about The Conspiracy by Ivan Stang from the Winterstar Symposium, and another rant by St. @ndrew at a Tampa devival. But what makes this rerun special is that it is probably the first time we ever revealed on Hour of Slack (and in public generally) the truth about Earth and Mars -- that their orbits were exchanged by the Conspiracy. (Later we deduced that Mars actually changed places with Earth not in 1953 (as stated in this show) but during the so-called "World War 2.")
