Andy reads the first prayers he ever prayed at church in 2008, which speak of the urgent love of God for all people, and our desire to be changed. He reflects on what a different perspective he had 16 years ago, and also what threads still run through his more recent prayer. Ever since lesson 49 in this series entitled, “The Gospel According to Moses: Exodus,” we've been dealing with added laws to the Ten Commandments that Yahvay יהוה is giving to His people at Sinai through Moses. For me I know I have read these chapters (chapter 21-23) in Exodus and have not been overly affected. I mean I am reading laws and in some cases they mean little to me in the 21st century. The content of chapters 21-23 was not very stimulating for my faith and understanding. Once again it is incumbent on us to read the Bible but we can not stop there. We need to go further and study the Bible if we are to be true disciples of Adonai Yeshua. A number of years ago I began Torah studies “under” Dennis Prager, the famous and renowned conservative radio talk show host, who is also a Torah and Hebrew expert. Matter of fact as a religious Jew (he's not orthodox) he has said that this is his life's passion; to teach Torah תּוֹרָה to all, both Jew and Gentile. He has an audio series on the Torah תּוֹרָה that took him 25 years to complete. He is now taking those study materials and bring them to books called the “Rational Bible” one for each of the books Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. They are awesome and Dennis did this to help Jews in Judaism and Christians into a deeper and more profound understanding of God's Word in the Torah תּוֹרָה. Like Dennis has said, Christians and Jews have the same God and the same Bible except for the New Testament of course. For me my studies in my graduate program was focused on the historical context of the Bible. So where Dennis stops his lessons because he is a religious Jew, I take up and take us to the Messiah, the Lord, Jesus. By knowing the New Testament and the Jewish culture of Jesus' day we find that indeed SCRIPTURE testifies of Jesus and we see His teaching and His words in the Old Testament, the Hebrew Scriptures, just like Jesus taught us in John 5:39 … "You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me.” (Joh 5:39) So I listened to the audio lessons and use them as a foundation for this series in Exodus and the completed series in Genesis. It has been my goal to share these awesome lessons from the true Jewish scholar but also to go beyond Dennis' lessons and commentaries and show how the words of Torah testify of Yeshua, our Lord, Jesus. For these chapters in Exodus 21-23 I was amazed at how much I missed. The laws, especially in the Hebrew, are more intense and explosive than in the English and so applicable to our day. The Torah תּוֹרָה is God's instruction for them then and us now. In this lesson, lesson 58 focusing on Exod. 23:6-12, we study and experience that same awesomeness to God's word. More than that once we go into the Hebrew it takes us to the very words of Jesus again and again. The Torah תּוֹרָה was Jesus' Bible and He tells us to immerse ourselves and base our entire life on God's Word when He said … "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." (Joh 8:31-32) I mentioned in this lesson about the two Hebrew words one of truth and the other for a lie. The Hebrew word for truth is AYMET and in Hebrew it is אֶמֶת – the first and middle and last letter in the Hebrew alphabet. The word for lie is SHEKER and in Hebrew it is שֶׁקֶר – the last three letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Is the Lord giving us a “picture?” Perhaps. Rabbi Daniel Lappin comments in this way … Truth or AYMET אֶמֶת comprises, in sequence, the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, the middle letter, and the final letter. The message is that truth fits into the entire story from A to Z as it were. The word for LIE or SHEKER שֶׁקֶר is made up of the 2nd last, the 4th last, and the 3rd last letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Since truth and lies are so incompatible, the last letter, having already been used for the final letter of AYMET, truth, cannot be used for falsehood. That leaves the next three letters, jumbled up to indicate that lies never go from A to Z but rather from Y to W to X. (See Rabbi Daniel Lapin's website for his total teaching on the concept of truth and lies at https://rabbidaniellapin.com/) The Rabbi also provides a cool picture of Truth and Lie in the Hebrew alphabet. See the picture below. https://rabbidaniellapin.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/HEBREW-ALPHABET-truth-600x565.png Rev. Ferret - who is this guy? What's his background? Why should I listen to him? In this last episode of 2024, I want to leave you with a powerful conversation to marinate on deeply. I'm talking with Dr. Shamari Reid, an assistant professor of justice and belonging in education at New York University. He has taught Spanish, English as a new language, and ELA at the elementary, secondary, and post-secondary levels in Oklahoma, New York, Uruguay, and Spain. Shamari shares the journey from seeing himself as a “teacher superhero” to understanding he's a human who teaches. Like many of us, Shamari once believed that it was his job to save his students and fix systemic issues like racism and classism through sheer hard work. That mindset led him to overwork himself until he burned out completely, even blacking out while driving from exhaustion. During his recovery, Shamari came across Toni Morrison's concept of self-regard, which caused him to rethink his identity and realize that he was more than just a teacher. He started to see the importance of recognizing his humanity and taking care of his needs outside of the classroom. I could relate deeply to Shamari's experience. As women, especially those of us in nurturing roles, we often feel pressure to put our personal needs last. In this conversation, we unpack how different groups, like Black male educators, face unique pressures. Shamari shares the unrealistic expectations placed on him, particularly being seen as a relatable savior for students facing discipline issues. Together, we explore how centering love in education—nurturing both students' and our own emotional and spiritual growth—can create a more just and equitable learning environment. It takes courage to break away from fear-based, status quo practices and lead with love, but it's necessary. We talk about how teachers can overcome common fears like making mistakes, not being perfect, or neglecting academics. Shamari shares practical steps for navigating these challenges, including articulating your vision, planning backwards, and, most importantly, giving yourself grace. At the heart of this conversation is a reminder: being human is enough. We don't need to earn our worth by overworking or sacrificing our boundaries. It's okay to say no, set limits, and take care of yourself. By embracing our humanity, we invite love into our classrooms and can overcome obstacles together. This is an honest, heartfelt conversation about what it really means to teach with love and why it's crucial to prioritize our well-being. I hope it leaves you feeling inspired and reminded that you are enough—just as you are. I'll be back with more episodes for you in the new year. Until then, be well, my friends, and keeping choosing love over fear.

In episodes 35 and 36, back in late 2020, I told you the story of 9-month-old Jacob Landin, a tiny boy with a big laugh and an even bigger personality. Jacob died in April 1987 from a severe traumatic brain injury. When the injury occurred, he was in the care of his mom's boyfriend, Steven Chavez, who told several different stories to Brenda Landin, medical professionals, and investigators. Despite being the only suspect, failing a polygraph, and reportedly confessing to police, Steven was never prosecuted for Jacob's murder, and he went on to abuse and terrorize Jacob's mom and brother for years afterward. For this bonus episode, I spoke again with Eric Carter-Landin, Jacob's big brother and the host of the True Consequences podcast. We discussed Eric and Brenda's efforts to get justice for Jacob, the New Mexico Attorney General's refusal to treat Jacob and his family with the respect they deserve, why they finally decided to name Steven after all these years, and how we can help by getting on board with the current 10 Days of Jacob campaign.Attorney General “Contact Us” form: https://nmdoj.gov/contact-us New Mexico Department of JusticeOffice of the Attorney General, Raúl Torrez201 3rd St. NWAlbuquerque, NM 87102(505) 490-4060 Episode 35: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/re-release-episode-35-jacob-landin-part-1--47429959Episode 36: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/re-release-episode-36-jacob-landin-part-2--47429996 True Consequences - NM Forgotten Child - Jacob Jeremiah Landin, part 1: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/nm-forgotten-child-jacob-jeremiah-landin--25919867Part 2: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/nm-forgotten-child-jacob-jeremiah-landin-part-2--26727541Part 3: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/nm-forgotten-child-jacob-jeremiah-landin-part-3--25919870True Consequences - A Brother's Love: Justice for Jacob Landin: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/a-brother-s-love-justice-for-jacob-landin--59154357True Consequences - A Family's Love: Justice for Jacob: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/a-family-s-love-justice-for-jacob--59239092 Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. In his new book, Humans Who Teach: A Guide for Centering Love, Justice and Liberation in Schools, author Shamari Reid writes that the ways in which we have been socialized can hold us back. This book is an invitation to examine those social lessons so we can show up in more loving ways for ourselves as teachers and for our students. He lays out a path for this work by honoring our own humanity and choosing love over fear. Patsy often says, You are more than you know because God is greater than you can imagine. Zach Bolen, frontman of the pop/rock band Citizens, is a lovely and thoughtful communicator who is giving us fresh permission to open up our minds and use our imaginations as we grow in our journey with God. Zach is a mellow fellow, and as you know, we're pretty excitable; some would say "keyed up." So Zach calmed our chit-chat into focused sanity and we found his converastion to be soothing to our own souls. Unplug for a moment to join us. But just a few minutes into a conversation with Jacob and you quickly discern that pastoring a successful church only scratches the surface of his life's impact. His tender heart and sensitive spirit, born from his own brokenness, has connected him with people knee-deep in pain looking for fresh hope and healing. We love Jacob, and know you will, too. Over 50 million people are trapped in the world of human trafficking, and today's guest is doing something about it. Ryan Sobey is the VP of Anti-trafficking at Love Justice International, an organization that has helped over 34,000 people worldwide escape human trafficking, find freedom, and reconnect with loved ones. They're a testament to the fact that with the right people and mindset, any organization can be financially successful while also providing value to society. Love Justice currently operates in 22 countries, and Ryan has been an integral part of the efforts that helped them contribute to over 1,200 arrests worldwide with an over 35% conviction rate. While Ryan and his team are on the front lines stopping vulnerable people from becoming victims, they also help traffickers find a better life for themselves, stop trafficking and deter others from following their path. In today's conversation, we discuss why real human trafficking is much more brutal than what we see in the movies, Love Justice's scalable business model that they're helping other human rights organizations replicate, and the importance of using your passion for being of service to others.Free GiftRyan's team put together an eye-opening report titled, The Truth Behind Human Trafficking: 10 Common Myths Debunked.
