Alison Littlewood's latest novels, published as A. J. Elwood, are The Other Lives of Miss Emily White and The Cottingley Cuckoo. Her first book, A Cold Season, was selected for the Richard and Judy Book Club and described as ‘perfect reading for a dark winter's night.' Other titles include Mistletoe, The Hidden People, The Crow Garden, The Unquiet House and Path of Needles. Her short stories have been selected for several Best Of anthologies and published in her collections, Quieter Paths, The Flowering and A Curious Cartography. She has won the Shirley Jackson Award for short fiction. Alison lives in a house of creaking doors and crooked walls in deepest darkest Yorkshire, England. HarperCollins on 3 October announced the acquisition of Until We Drown by Ava Morwood, the penname of Alison Littlewood, who has previously been an R&J pick and won the Shirley Jackson award. Acquired with UK and Commonwealth rights from Oli Munson at AM Heath in a two-book deal, Megan Jones will publish Until We Drown in hardback, ebook and audio in April 2026. A spellbinding thriller with a powerful sense of place, Until We Drown is set in the Peak District, where Ellie Kellaway and her family are seeking a fresh start. Ellie hopes to leave behind her troubling memories of the sea – and her husband's affair with the beautiful wild swimmer he met there. But this new home harbours dark secrets, where ancient legends intertwine with chilling realities. When Ellie's daughter finds a mermaid carving hidden in the bones of their house, the family find themselves pulled into an undertow of betrayal and vengeance which threatens to drown them all. Megan Jones said: ‘I am thrilled to be working with Ava, not only a wonderfully talented writer but someone passionate about the stories which special places hide. Until We Drown is a thriller that conjures a dark fascination that lasts long after the final page.' Ava Morwood said: ‘I'm completely thrilled that Until We Drown has found such an amazing home. It's a heart-and-soul of a novel, which began with my fascination with the presence of mermaid folklore in the landlocked Peak District and grew into a rather darker, more dangerous contemporary thriller. I'm beyond happy to be working with Megan and the fabulous team at HarperNorth, and grateful to my agent, Oli Munson, for making this happen.' Find out more: AvaMorwood.com AlisonLittlewood.com

Tonight on the show, we dive headfirst into a political earthquake shaking Washington. New revelations show Hakeem Jeffries once INVITED Jeffrey Epstein to dinner—calling himself the “Brooklyn Barack” while chasing Epstein's money. And the Republican-controlled House just failed to censure a delegate exposed as Epstein's mouthpiece during an official hearing. How does someone tied to Epstein end up anywhere near the House Intel Committee? We break it all down. And joining me is the incredible Dr. Stella Immanuel. We discuss how to protect your health this winter, what you really need to know heading into cold and flu season, and why COP30 in Brazil could have massive consequences for global freedom. Winter Wisdom: Buying and Selling Homes in New England During the Cold Months When most people think of real estate seasonality, they picture the spring market bright flowers, open houses, and eager buyers emerging from winter hibernation. But on this week's episode of Talk Real Estate Roundtable, Sharon McNamara and Melissa Wallace reminded listeners that winter in New England brings its own unique set of opportunities, challenges, and wisdom for both buyers and sellers. Busting the Myth: “No One Buys or Sells in Winter” One of the most common misconceptions in real estate is that nothing happens once the cold sets in. Sharon set the record straight homes sell every month of the year, and serious buyers don't stop searching because the temperature drops. In fact, winter often attracts the most motivated buyers those relocating for work, upsizing or downsizing before the new year, or simply ready to make a move despite the season. As Sharon noted on-air, “There's always a reason someone needs to sell and when motivation meets opportunity, the season doesn't matter.” Why Winter Real Estate Deserves Attention Melissa asked the question many wonder: why does winter real estate deserve its own spotlight? Sharon explained that the colder months bring unique considerations from curb appeal under snow to heating costs, icy driveways, and limited daylight for showings. But with proper preparation, sellers can stand out when inventory is lower and competition is thinner. Plus, fewer listings mean more attention for your home. “You might just have fewer buyers looking,” Sharon said, “but the ones who are looking are serious.” Seller Tips for the Cold Months Create Warmth the Moment Buyers Step In – Keep the heat steady, bake something simple, and add cozy touches like soft lighting or throws to help buyers feel at home. Stay on Top of Snow and Ice – Safety is part of presentation. Keep driveways, walkways, and stairs clear. Highlight Winter Efficiency – Energy-efficient heating systems, newer windows, and good insulation are major selling points this time of year. Leverage the Season – Decorate tastefully for the holidays; a festive but uncluttered space can create an emotional connection. Buyer Considerations in Winter Winter home shopping isn't without its perks. Sharon and Melissa noted that buyers can often see how well a home handles the cold. You'll experience the heating system, insulation, and draft control firsthand. And because the market tends to slow, you may face less competition when making an offer. Buyers should, however, stay mindful of weather-related limitations roofs, landscaping, or exterior conditions may be covered by snow, so factor in a thorough spring check if needed. A Glimpse Ahead: Predictions from the Farmer's Almanac The conversation took a lighthearted detour when the hosts discussed the surprising news that one edition of the Farmer's Almanac will stop publication after 2026 though not the Old Farmer's Almanac most New Englanders rely on. According to its forecast, Massachusetts can expect a mild and dry winter with fewer snow days than usual but Sharon and Tim at WATD agreed: “It's still New England, baby. You never really know.” A Roundtable Tradition of Connection The episode also featured live listener calls and even a check-in from a real estate friend in Miami. Listeners weighed in on whether they'd list now or wait until after the holidays and most agreed: why wait? As one caller said, “If you're serious, just go ahead and put it on now and see what happens.” That spirit of engagement mixed with laughter, storytelling, and genuine care is exactly what keeps Boston Connect Real Estate's Talk Real Estate Roundtable such a beloved part of the South Shore community. Final Thoughts Whether you're buying or selling this winter, the key is preparation and partnership. The agents at Boston Connect Real Estate specialize in helping clients navigate every season of the market with strategy, care, and a bit of local wisdom. With traditional flu season bearing down fast, and Covid-19 on the rise, the upcoming fall and winter might be better characterized as a triple-viral threat: Covid, flu and RSV. This is also the first year we've ever had vaccines available for all three respiratory viruses. Public health experts say the threat to the public at large -- and the hospital system -- must be taken seriously, but with more anti-viral-tools in our toolbox than ever before, there may also be also be some room for cautious optimism. Today, WBUR Senior Health Reporter Priyanka Dayal McCluskey joins The Common to talk about what's ahead for public health in Massachusetts. Greater Boston's daily podcast where news and culture meet.

The Letter host Amy Donaldson works closely with Dave Cawley, the host of the COLD podcast. Amy has listened to every episode of COLD and calls herself not only a co-worker, but a fan of Dave's investigative and thoughtful approach to true crime journalism. Here's a little more about Season 3: The Search For Sheree. When Sheree Warren left her job in Salt Lake City in 1985 she told a coworker she was headed to meet her estranged husband at a car dealership. But she never made it. Sheree vanished. Police turned suspicious eyes towards her husband. And although there was distrust around Charles Warren, he wasn't the only suspect. She also had a boyfriend, a former cop named Cary Hartmann, who lived a sinister double life. Season three follows two suspects– men who both raised suspicion for investigators. But with two strong persons of interest with competing facts and evidence, it muddied the murder investigation. This season, host Dave Cawley, digs into the lives of these two men, the details of the case and examines the intersections between domestic abuse and sexual violence. The COLD team seeks to answer the question: what really happened to Sheree Warren? Hey Prime Members, you can binge all 10 episodes of COLD: The Search for Sheree ad-free on Amazon Music. Film adaptations of true crimes have to strike a tricky balance between authenticity and drama. 1987's Murder Ordained depicts the 1983 incidents within a small town in Kansas, where the mysterious deaths of a minister's wife and a secretary's husband converge. But upon its release, residents and journalists alike argued the movie left some accuracy to be desired. So, what happened in Emporia? "Crimes of the Centuries" is a podcast from the Obsessed Network exploring forgotten crimes from times past that made a mark and helped change history.
