During the investigation into Father Reynaldo's murder, several letters were sent to various government agencies, the Archdiocese, and a few Catholic churches that claimed that Father Reynaldo was murdered because he had something to do with the civil wars in Latin America. Several civil wars had broken out in Central and South America during the 60s. These wars lasted well into the 90s, and Catholic priests who were ministering to various Indigenous peoples in those areas were put in the middle of those civil wars. These wars were very much about the rich against the poor. While the rich had backing from the US government, the poor had missionary priests who were only armed in faith, many of which would become martyrs for staying with the people. Even if they couldn't protect those people, they ministered to them. I've done some very intensive research into Father Reynaldo and his career, nothing that I've seen or read has connected him to the civil wars in any way, but there are those out there who believe in the conspiracy theories that were created by these letters. After attending seminary in Ohio, Father Reynaldo's career was spent entirely in New Mexico. He was not a missionary priest. While there is a very low probability that he had anything to do with the unrest in Central America, every lead had to be followed.

Today we are continuing to look at the very frustrating and difficult case of Robbie Romero. This case has been baffling investigators and family for the last 20 years. When we last spoke, we talked about the various leads the police investigate including the fact that police zeroed in on Robbie’s brother, Ronnie, early in the investigation. But is it really universal? Does it apply equally to everyone? The idea seems simple enough, you do bad things, you have bad consequences. That’s what I used to believe. That’s what I want to believe. But is justice truly just? I am starting to think that it isn't. I know, I know, this is super naive of me. But I want to believe in the justice system so badly, I do. I want to have hope that people who do bad things will pay for it, even if it is much later. Because if that isn’t the case then what does that mean for the countless families waiting for justice for their loved ones? What does that mean for my family? What about the super rich or powerful? I think we can all agree that for them, Justice is often watered down and pales in comparison to consequences for poor or even average people. Why do we accept this as a society? Aside from the occasional head shake and tongue clicks what can actually be done to change that? The case that I am covering today is a tough one. Jeffrey Epstein was a disgraced multi-millionaire who was convicted of sex trafficking minors. He built a huge network of girls around the world that he would use for his sick sexual desires. He would then turn those same girls into recruiters for him. He preyed on the poor and vulnerable in a brash and bold manner that is quite alarming. Jeffrey was allowed to continue offending even after being caught with ample evidence and plenty of eyewitness accounts. His victims in his original case were never given the justice they deserved. This is the perfect example of the rich and powerful leveraging their wealth to water down the justice system. This case is beyond frustrating and you will hear my guest and I get upset because of it. Today’s episode is extra special for me. I am joined by my friend and fellow podcaster from Malice, Ariel Cooksey. Ariel is one of the co-founders of the Oracl3 Network. Her show takes a deep look at issues of true crimes and it is great. They are there to help guide you spiritually and help you when you are in need. They are supposed to lead their congregation in spiritual growth. A priest should be able to be trusted with all of your deepest and darkest secrets. Many priests fulfill this role and they do it well. But some priests have other motives and other desires. Some priests prey on the very people they are sworn to help. Some priests cause much more harm than good. Today’s case is a tough one. What happened near Springer in January 1976 blew the lid off the priest abuse scandal in New Mexico. You see, priests in NM and elsewhere had been abusing children for decades prior to this case. The details of this story are beyond disturbing, but the one positive thing that came out of it was that the truth was finally uncovered. Justice, however, is still eluding many of the victims of the NM Priest abuse scandal. This is just another example of the failure of this state to protect its most vulnerable and youngest citizens. While the church sat idle and did nothing to protect the kids under their care, the state turned a blind eye. The issue of child abuse in New Mexico continues to this day. There is so much that needs to be done here to protect kids. How anyone could look the other way after serious allegations like the ones discussed in this episode is beyond me. How could you live with yourself knowing that you helped enable a monster to torment and torture children. In my mind those who failed to act are equally guilty to the perpetrators of these crimes. In 2009 a hiker on Albuquerque's West Mesa stumbled upon human remains. This would turn into the largest crime scene in New Mexico history. It would also signal the beginning of the hunt for a serial killer, The West Mesa Bone Collector.

Don Fluitt was murdered by his ex-wife's husband. It was a plot crafted by Don's ex-wife. Terry White is currently in prison serving a life sentence but the conspirator and planner, Christine, is still free. I speak with Dennis, Don's brother about this sad case. Dennis is motivated to bring Christine to Justice. 

Nicole Chavez lost her son Jaydon, to a vicious and senseless act of violence. She has dedicated her time and energy to fighting for tougher crime laws and victim rights. Nicole is working to hold criminals accountable for their behavior in New Mexico. 

The NM prison riot was one of the worst prison riots in US history. It left a stain on the justice system in NM for many years. It also led to sweeping reform of the NM prison system. I am joined by Lydia Wolberg as we explore this horrible tragedy.

Amanda Kimbrel-Romero is the mother of Collin Romero. Collin and his best friend Ahmed were brutally murdered in December 2018. Amanda has spent the last year working to help victims of violent crimes and also to raise awareness about the legal loopholes that are allowing criminals to thrive in New Mexico.

Cynthia Vigil-Jaramillo was the last person that David Parker Ray, The Toy Box Killer, abducted. She describes in detail her capture, torture and escape in this exclusive interview. Cynthia is the reason David and his accomplices were captured.
