Lawrence Swift Noxon was born in March 1943. At five months old, he was diagnosed with what we now call Down syndrome. Three weeks later, on September 22, 1943, baby Lawrence died from electrocution under highly suspicious circumstances. His father, John Franklin Noxon Jr., was soon charged with murdering his infant son in what many considered a “mercy killing.” For this episode, I spoke with author Jim Overmyer, who wrote The Electrocution of Baby Lawrence, the definitive story of Lawrence's murder and the long, complicated legal proceedings that followed. This is the story of a baby boy who deserved to live a lot longer than he did, and a father who some at the time said wasn't punished harshly enough for his son's murder, while others believed that what John did was for the best. This is the tragic story of baby Lawrence Noxon. The Electrocution of Baby Lawrence: A Murder that Shook a New England Town by Jim Overmyer on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Electrocution-Baby-Lawrence-Murder-England/dp/1538181290/ref=sr_1_1 Jim's author website: https://www.jamesovermyer.com/Jim's Facebook author page: https://www.facebook.com/p/James-Overmyer-author-100041727673681/ Jim's Amazon author page: https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B081QRYTRM/about?ccs_id=c7fa7aac-e829-4449-9d6a-e61d26b9b8e0 Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. Emily and Phil continue their “Films of the Todds” mini series, spotlighting the work of Haynes, Phillips, Solondz, and Field, with a deep dive into Todd Field's haunting suburban drama Little Children (2006). Joining them is writer and producer Libby Hill, who brings sharp insight into the film's complex characters, morally murky relationships, and the atmosphere of quiet desperation that runs through Field's vision of American suburbia.Together, they explore the unforgettable performances by Kate Winslet, Patrick Wilson, and Jackie Earle Haley, the film's commentary on judgment and repression, and how Little Children solidified Field's reputation as one of the most nuanced directors of the 2000s. Whether you're revisiting the film or watching for the first time, this conversation sheds light on why Little Children remains one of the decade's most quietly powerful films.#PodcastLikeIts2000s #LittleChildren #ToddField #LibbyHill #2000sMovies #FilmPodcast #DramaMovies #MovieDiscussion Hosted on Acast. Send us a textThe power of protective maternal love transforms families, communities, and ultimately our world. When Tara Hackney adopted her daughter from India, a transformative realization occurred during a tender moment of singing "Jesus Loves the Little Children" to her traumatized toddler. The beloved song's lyrics—"red and yellow, black and white"—suddenly felt exclusionary. Where was brown? This gap inspired Tara to reimagine the lyrics to "every color, every shade, just exactly as He made," creating a beautiful children's board book that celebrates diversity as an intentional part of God's grand design.Tara's story weaves together adoption, diversity, and spiritual formation in profound ways. After raising three biological sons, she and her husband adopted two Indian girls, creating what she lovingly describes as twins born "not from my body, but in my heart." The adoption process—what she calls a "paper pregnancy"—required intentionality, sacrifice, and family-wide commitment. Rather than diminishing her relationship with her sons, adoption enriched their family dynamic and cultivated compassion and nurturing qualities in her boys. This conversation offers a refreshing perspective on the transformative power of motherhood, whether through biological, adoptive, or mentoring relationships. As we embrace diversity and nurture faith in the next generation, we participate in God's grand design—creating a world where every child feels represented, valued, and deeply loved. My guest in this episode, Morrene Hauser, spent decades repressing traumatic memories from her childhood. When she finally cracked open that vault, her life all but fell apart. Morrene speaks with raw honesty about surviving a childhood marked by relentless abuse at the hands of her mother and stepfathers. Morrene is driven by a fierce desire to help others by telling her painful but inspiring story. We talk about her upcoming memoir, The Good Girl, and how writing has become both a lifeline and a form of catharsis. Morrene also shares how horses played a powerful role in her healing. This conversation is about survival, reclaiming your own narrative, naming the wounds, and finding a way forward. This is Morrene Hauser's story.Links related to this episode:Morrene J. Back in 2021, both episode 49 and minisode #3 featured the story of 20-month-old Quortney Kley. On February 25, 1997, Quortney was sexually abused and murdered by her mom's boyfriend, Cayce Williams. It took nine years for the legal case to end with Williams accepting a plea agreement in 2006, and he was released in 2021 after spending only 24 years behind bars for the violent sexual assault and murder of a toddler. In this episode, you'll hear my recent conversation with Quortney's mom, Gretta Morgan, who has some disturbing updates for us about Quortney's killer and some shocking revelations about Illinois' sex offender registry. Quortney's case is already overwhelming in its injustice, but today's episode will boggle your mind. #DemandChangeILLinks related to this episode:• Episode 49: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/episode-49-quortney-kley--44665620 • Minisode 3: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/minisode-3-quortney-kley-update--44665601• CBS2 news piece: https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/54-sex-offenders-living-in-one-englewood-building/#• Cayce Williams on the ISP sex offender registry: https://isp.illinois.gov/Sor/Details/X06B1162 • Gretta's recent interview with freelance journalist Sarah Boyles: https://www.facebook.com/SuicidePainter/photos/tw-quortney-kley-was-a-happy-funny-and-smart-20-month-old-baby-when-cayce-willia/1509718230371103/?_rdr Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. Despite an immediate 911 call, Savayah didn't make it. An autopsy found horrific injuries, and Savayah's death was ruled a homicide caused by multiple blunt force injuries with suffocation and sexual assault. A week later, her father was arrested and charged with capital murder. This is the story of an adorable baby girl whose short life ended in the most brutal way possible. Mark 10:13-16 - The Little Children and Jesus 13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.

In the last episode, I told you the story of ten-year-old Dakota Levi Stevens, a smart, creative, charming kid who was dealt a bad hand in life and died at the hands of a foster mother and longtime family friend. Jennifer Wilson is now serving a regrettably short sentence in the Indiana prison system for crushing 91-pound Levi to death with her 341-pound body weight. In this episode, you'll hear my conversation with three of the people who loved Levi the most: Grandma Melissa Mahler; Aunt Ana Parrish; and Uncle Alex Parrish. Levi's maternal family members told me about their family's constant attempts to rescue Levi from the foster care system; their heartache at Levi's bright light being snuffed out by someone they thought they could trust; and their efforts to make changes to help other kids like Levi. This is part two of the heart-wrenching story of Dakota Levi Stevens.Honoring Dakota Levi Stevens on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3953712874915112/ Change.org petition to remove Robert Wilson as middle school principal: https://www.change.org/p/demand-the-removal-of-principal-robert-wilson-from-lake-ridge-new-tech-middle-school Change.org petition to hold DCS accountable for failing Indiana's vulnerable children: https://www.change.org/p/hold-the-department-of-children-and-family-services-accountable-for-foster-child-deaths Levi's Law petition: https://www.change.org/p/let-s-get-levi-s-law-started?recruiter=295397157&recruited_by_id=d285ea50-f8dd-11e4-8573-5be613050eb0 Lake County Candlelight Vigil for Victims of Child Abuse (April 30): https://www.facebook.com/share/16RPD7VvE4/ Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. He was placed on life support, but his brain had been deprived of oxygen for too long, and after two days, Levi died. His foster mother, Jennifer Lee Wilson, admitted to police that in an attempt to control his behavior, she had laid her 341-pound body on top of the 91-pound boy. Surveillance camera footage proved that Levi lay motionless under Jennifer for over eight minutes before she moved, asking if he was faking. This is the story of a joyful, creative, lively little boy who loved Pokemon, Minecraft, bugs, and his little sister. It's also the story of a broken-hearted family who wanted only to protect Levi but weren't given the chance by a state system that has failed far too many children. This is part one of the heart-wrenching story of Dakota Levi Stevens.Honoring Dakota Levi Stevens on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3953712874915112/ Change.org petition to remove Robert Wilson as middle school principal: https://www.change.org/p/demand-the-removal-of-principal-robert-wilson-from-lake-ridge-new-tech-middle-school Change.org petition to hold DCS accountable for failing Indiana's vulnerable children: https://www.change.org/p/hold-the-department-of-children-and-family-services-accountable-for-foster-child-deaths Levi's Law petition: https://www.change.org/p/let-s-get-levi-s-law-started?recruiter=295397157&recruited_by_id=d285ea50-f8dd-11e4-8573-5be613050eb0 Geisen Funeral Home memorial video: https://www.tributeslides.com/proxy/videos/embedded_video/SNG7PTDFWK8XF844 Thomas the Tank Engine Theme background music by R3 Music Box on YouTube. 1 John 2: 7-11. From the "Special Services" sermon series. Preached by Tim Wegener.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 16th of April, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Luke 2:49: “And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?” This is a 12-year-old boy. I am talking about our Saviour - Jesus Christ. A 12 year old boy was lost, his mom and dad couldn't find him. He had been lost, not for three hours but for three days! Where was he? He was in the very place he was supposed to be. He was in the temple in His Father's house. He was found sitting quietly, debating, listening, asking questions and giving incredible answers and confounding the greatest minds in the world at that time, and they were astonished by His answers. Jesus says to you and me today that unless we become as little children, we will never see the Kingdom of God. Oh my dear friend, you and I must be so careful that we don't underestimate the young person's mind - they are open. I just love speaking to young people. They are unpolluted by the things of the world. They are soft, they cry easily, they are very emotional, they are pliable. Just like a young sapling, a young tree, they can bend in the storms of life. They are teachable, not like an old tree, set in its ways, and eventually, the big wind comes, and they cannot bend, and they break, they snap.We must not be like that. Jesus says we need to become like little children. I got an email a few days ago from a young 12-year-old boy by the name of Noah. I was so touched. Noah came to his very first Mighty Mens Conference at Jeffrey's Bay a few weeks ago. His life has been completely changed.Today, let us be gentle, loving and kind, and listen to what young people have to say!Jesus bless you and goodbye.

During those three days, Bella went from a happy, bubbly baby to alternately crying hysterically and becoming quiet and withdrawn. Then her parents noticed a distinctive pinching bruise on Bella's thigh. An investigation turned up hours of CCTV footage from inside the daycare, showing three workers abusing the baby, including pinching, shoving, crushing, slapping, shaking, and smothering her.Bella's parents, JD and Kaitlin Kuykendall, assumed their baby's abusers would immediately face consequences, but instead, officials seemed hell-bent on sweeping the incident under the rug. The daycare workers responsible remained working at the CDC for months. Only when Bella's parents went public with her story were any charges pressed, and those were woefully inadequate. In this episode, you'll hear my conversation with Kaitlin Kuykendall about what Bella endured, how it continues to affect her to this day, and why Kaitlin and her husband went public with her story. This is the inspiring story of Operation Mei Mei.Operation Mei Mei on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573058332219Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. By Nathan Ekama - Little children are very dependent on their parents for everything. Do we trust God to provide for us at all times? Do we trust him to care for us and fulfill the things he has promised us?
Patrick Wilson wears many show-business hats. Fans of his Tony-nominated work on Broadway may not know of his involvement in the spooky Insidious and The Conjuring movies. (He even made his directorial debut on Insidious: The Red Door.) And horror/supernatural fans might have missed his star performances in the celebrated arthouse hit Little Children and the Mike Nichols-directed miniseries version of Tony Kushner's Angels in America for HBO. Leonard and Jessie are longtime fans of his—even more so after this congenial conversation.
