Continuing with our study of 1st John, Pastor Dustin Clegg walks us through 1 John 2:3 - 11 and shares three observations from the text:1) Command keeping is not about prideful, religious duty, but about humble, quiet confidence in the King. (1 John 2:3)2) There is major potential that we have bought into some lie. (1 John 2:4-6)3) The church of Jesus is meant to be His continued life and ministry in this broken world. (1 John 2:6)Let's be real. Consider all of your opinions and everything everyone has ever told you that isn't Biblical and crush it all at the altar.

Today we are learning that Jesus is the Son of God, and he is full of love! Parents, want to keep talking? Here are some ideas:Ask: What did the disciples say to the kids? (Go away!) What did Jesus say? (Come to me) Who loves you? Sing the songs “Jesus loves me” and “Jesus loves the Little Children” many times this week. If you don't know the songs, you can find them online. (ages 2-5)A parent's blessing was an important part of Jewish culture throughout the Bible. Spend time this week speaking a blessing out loud over each of your children every day. You may want to use a blessing from Scripture to pray over your children. As you bless your child, place your hand on his or her head or shoulder. (ages 6-12)One last thing! We should welcome children in our homes and church because Jesus loves them.

Young mother Danielle Vaughan knew her children were being abused in the home of her mother, Sherry Connor. She spent years pleading for someone to intervene before it was too late. No one listened, and Danielle's worst nightmare became reality when her five-year-old son, Dennis “Boo” Vaughan Jr., was pronounced dead on Christmas Eve, 2019.Boo's body told a story of severe and prolonged suffering, and an autopsy revealed that Boo had been savagely beaten, ultimately dying from blunt force trauma to the head and neck. They were ultimately placed in the Laconia, New Hampshire, home of their maternal grandmother, Sherry Connor. Their mother, Danielle Vaughan, had experienced her mother's abuse firsthand and knew Sherry was mistreating and abusing her children. Over the next two years, DCYF received at least 27 reports of child abuse and neglect against the Vaughan children. Despite these warnings from Danielle and several others, including mandatory reporters, DCYF continually overlooked the increasingly egregious and shocking ways Sherry treated her grandchildren. Lawrence Swift Noxon was born in March 1943. At five months old, he was diagnosed with what we now call Down syndrome. Three weeks later, on September 22, 1943, baby Lawrence died from electrocution under highly suspicious circumstances. His father, John Franklin Noxon Jr., was soon charged with murdering his infant son in what many considered a “mercy killing.” For this episode, I spoke with author Jim Overmyer, who wrote The Electrocution of Baby Lawrence, the definitive story of Lawrence's murder and the long, complicated legal proceedings that followed. Back in 2021, both episode 49 and minisode #3 featured the story of 20-month-old Quortney Kley. On February 25, 1997, Quortney was sexually abused and murdered by her mom's boyfriend, Cayce Williams. He was placed on life support, but his brain had been deprived of oxygen for too long, and after two days, Levi died.
