Tom Perrotta's eleven works of fiction include Election and Little Children, both of which were made into Oscar-nominated films, and The Leftovers, which was adapted into a critically acclaimed, Peabody Award-winning HBO series. He's now been on the podcast five times with Marrie. First in 2007 with The Abstinence Teacher, again in 2011 for The Leftovers, Mrs. Fletcher in 2017, and Tracy Flick Can't Win in 2022. We return to familiar New Jersey territory in Ghost Town, a place reminiscent of where Tom grew up, which gives him a chance to talk again about writers' obsessions with childhood homes. He also talks about writing about race and American politics in fiction, as well as what seemingly simple and straight-forward writing can do for your story, and how he tackled point of view. When Jesus came into this world, he established an eternal community called "the kingdom of God." Anyone in heaven or on earth who has submitted to King Jesus is a part of that kingdom, and the values & priorities of his kingdom are drastically different from those found in this world. #MoRealJesus
Matthew 19:14
I reflect on the spiritual necessity of divine guidance as I prepare for a personal religious retreat. Drawing from the Gospel of Matthew, the message emphasizes adopting a childlike disposition to truly understand God's will and avoid the pitfalls of self-centeredness. The speaker highlights Saint Catherine of Siena as a model of integrity, praising her ability to speak the truth plainly, without resorting to deceptive language or euphemisms. By remaining faithful and simple, believers are encouraged to act as instruments of the Creator rather than relying solely on their own limited wisdom. Ultimately, the text suggests that while individuals must use their personal initiative, true peace is found by submitting to the gentle authority of Christ.

Sunday January 11th, 2026 - "Let the Little Children Come" - Rev. Kyndall Rae Rothaus - 3:25:26, 11.54 AM by Peace of Christ Church - Round Rock, Texas
The Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast continues in the Gospel of Mark. We are in chapter 10. We continue on from our previous lesson where Jesus had been confronted by the Pharisees as to whether it was lawful, e.g. legal for a man to send his wife away, e.g. divorce her. It concludes with Jesus welcoming little children.Jesus speaks of God's original purpose for man and woman to be joined together and to become one flesh no longer being two but one flesh.Jesus pinpoints the reason why divorce occurs. It's simply because of hardness of heart. Hardness of heart is a compound word meaning a ‘shriveled heart', dried up and without any feeling, hardened, without any affection. Note this hardness toward the marriage partner is first of all, the result of a hardness against God and His Word. Here's Dr. Mitchell, Mark 10:1-16.
We hope you enjoy today's Scripture reading and devotional aimed at motivating you to apply God's word while strengthening your heart and nurturing your soul. Today's Bible reading is 2 Kings 5:1–19. Hawk Hill Pictures, in partnership with A Channel of Peace, announces the upcoming release of the feature film "The Hail Mary," a heartfelt comedy-drama written and directed by veteran actor and filmmaker Daniel Roebuck ("Matlock," "The Fugitive"). The film will premiere Feb. 21 in The Lehigh Valley, Penn., where it was filmed, ahead of a broader national rollout on Feb. 27.When football season is officially wrapped, "The Hail Mary" is poised to deliver a new kind of comeback story rooted in redemption, faith and community. Set within a Catholic school environment, the film follows a disillusioned man who unexpectedly rediscovers purpose, family and belief in the most unlikely of ways.Roebuck, who also stars in the lead role, credits his Catholic school upbringing and the religious sisters who taught him as major influences on the story."I had such a positive experience growing up in Catholic schools and in the church, and I've always wanted to tell a story that reflects that; something people could relate to, with a sense of humor," says Roebuck. "We even used my old school as the rival team's location in the film, which made it all the more personal."In "The Hail Mary," Roebuck portrays Jake Bauer, a bitter and isolated loner whose life is upended when he is reluctantly recruited to coach a struggling Catholic school football team. The effort is spearheaded by the determined and sharp-witted Sister Kathy, played by Marsha Dietlein Bennett ("Newlyweds," "Little Children"). What begins as an unwanted obligation evolves into a journey of service, healing and unexpected community."This is a story about second chances," adds Roebuck. "Not just for one man, but for anyone who's ever needed a reminder that grace doesn't give up."The film features an ensemble cast that includes Timothy E. Goodwin ("Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty"), Bret Anthony ("Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of 'Three's Company'"), Duane Whitaker ("Pulp Fiction"), Tyler Mane ("X-Men") and Joe Estevez ("Eyes Upon Waking"). Following its Lehigh Valley premiere, "The Hail Mary" will be released nationally on Feb. 27 through Hawk Hill Pictures using a multi-tiered distribution strategy that includes theatrical screenings in select cities, licensed church screenings nationwide, and school and community engagements with curated discussion materials."We are excited for not only faith audiences to see the film, but mainstream audiences as well," said Jen Katzfey, President of Hawk Hill Pictures. "This film doesn't just entertain, it opens doors for meaningful conversations about forgiveness, mentorship and healing."Theaters, churches, schools and community organizations interested in hosting a screening of "The Hail Mary" can submit a request here through the Hawk Hill Pictures website. Hey everybody. This week we are discussing the Ben Affleck's adaptation of Dennis Lehane's Gone Baby Gone (2007). Listen as we breakdown this powerful, philosophical crime mystery that provokes questions of morality, justice, and what it means to do the right thing. Enjoy!
This Sunday we are honored to welcome Rev. Dr. Dennis Edwards, Dean of North Park Theological Seminary. Drawing from Matthew 11:25–30, Dr. Edwards calls us to hear Jesus' words with fresh ears: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest,” reminding us that gentleness and humility are the very heart of Christ—and the doorway into a life that is light, free, and rooted in grace.

A Few Minutes in The Gospel of Mark Part 21: Let The Little Children Come - English only. Messiah's teaching about children is well known. But perhaps the context sheds additional light on a deeper meaning! Based on Mark 10: 1-16. This is a rebroadcast of a podcast originally recorded September 15, 2022.
The knowledge of God is man's greatest knowledge. We come to know the true and living God through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Read what the Bible says in 1 John 2:12-14. Take special notice of the phrase, "...ye have known him." We need to understand that this is written to all who know the Lord. Note the expressions, "little children," "young men," and "fathers." John is covering everyone in a local assembly. This has nothing to do with gender. He is writing about the stages of Christian development and growth.

Note: This episode was originally released on June 7, 2023.Over the last two episodes, I told you the story of Alexavier Pedrin, whose six years were marred by family turmoil, alleged abuse and neglect, and CPS involvement. On February 11, 2023, Alexavier was found dead in his family's rented home in Medary, Wisconsin with multiple inflicted injuries and Xanax in his system. Three months later, his father's girlfriend, 31-year-old Josie Dikeman, was finally arrested and charged with Alexavier's murder. For this episode, I had the honor of speaking with two close members of Alexavier's maternal family: his cousin, Raven Holzer, and his aunt, Annie Anderson, who are dedicated to keeping Alexavier's memory alive, giving him a voice, and protecting other kids like Alexavier. This is part three of the infuriating story of Alexavier Pedrin. *Note: This episode was originally released on May 30, 2023.In 2011, 19-year-old Josie Dikeman was accused of child neglect after her boyfriend's one-year-old daughter suffered a skull fracture and a brain injury in her care. That charge was dropped. Two years later, she was convicted in a separate child neglect case regarding the same little girl, by then age three, who had been returned from foster care only to become malnourished and suffer fractured hands and feet while in Josie and her boyfriend's care. After Josie moved in with her new boyfriend, Derek Pedrin, forming a large, blended family with seven children, loved ones began reporting concerns that Josie was abusing or neglecting Derek's son, Alexavier. Derek and Josie began refusing to let Alexavier's maternal family see him. On February 10 of this year, police performed a welfare check at the family's request, finding Alexavier asleep and very drowsy, but supposedly fine. Fifteen hours later, police returned to the home, where six-year-old Alexavier was pronounced dead. This is part one of the infuriating story of Alexavier Pedrin. Note: This episode was originally released on June 2, 2023.In the last episode, I began telling you the story of six-year-old Alexavier Pedrin, whose short life was filled with constant family turmoil and frequent involvement by various CPS agencies in his home state of Wisconsin and others. After Alexavier's mom went to prison, his father eventually stopped letting her side of the family see their son, allowing the abuse and neglect Alexavier allegedly suffered at the hands of his father's girlfriend run rampant. In this episode, I'll tell you about the police's welfare check on Alexavier the night before his death; the circumstances surrounding his death on February 11, 2023; the resulting police investigation, and the very recent arrest of a woman who took the responsibility for caring for Alexavier but never should have been allowed near children in the first place. The rock and roll legend, Billy J. Kramer, grew up in Bootle, a Liverpool suburb. Upon leaving school, he became a trainee engineer by day and aspiring singer by night, performing under the stage name Billy Kramer. Billy's performances at local rock clubs around Liverpool soon brought him to the attention of the one and only John Lennon. John urged Brian Epstein to sign Billy to an exclusive management contract. Billy jumped at the opportunity to become a full-time entertainer. Soon after, Billy was summoned to Brian's office to find John there waiting for him with the suggestion that he add the “J” to his name to give it a “rock and roll edge”. From that day forward, Billy has been known as Billy J. Kramer. In March of 1963, Billy was the first person to have a hit record with a Lennon-McCartney song, “Do You Want To Know A Secret,” which was written specially for him by John and Paul and produced by George Martin at Abbey Road Studios even before The Beatles recorded it.Billy toured extensively throughout the UK as the opening act for The Beatles both before and during Beatlemania. Billy also headlined tours with such greats as Del Shannon, Gene Pitney, and The Everly Brothers.Billy's recordings of the Lennon-McCartney compositions, “Bad To Me” along with “I'll Keep You Satisfied”, “From A Window”, and “I Call Your Name” all became international million sellers. He also had a smash hit with the Mort Shuman/John Leslie McFarland song, Little Children. Released as a double sided single, Bad To Me and Little Children have the unique distinction of being the highest entry into the Billboard charts at #8. That accomplishment has never been equalled.Billy's appearances on the Ed Sullivan show, Shindig, and Hullaballoo secured his place in rock ‘n roll history. In 1964, Billy performed as part of the legendary T.A.M.I. show along with such artists as James Brown, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes , Smokey Robinson, The Rolling Stones and many others. To commemorate his 50th anniversary in the music business, Billy recorded and released new material entitled “I Won The Fight”. Billy recently released his autobiography, “Do You Want To Know A Secret.”Billy continues to record, perform and promote his Storytellers show to international audiences. Please stick around at the end of the show for a really fantastic treat. Billy has lent us his brand new Christmas song, “Christmas Kinda Feeling…”
In the last episode, I told you the story of Marion Jester-Montoya, a joyful little girl with sparkling brown eyes and a ready smile, who tragically died at the age of 10 months after her mother's boyfriend zipped her into a backpack all day instead of having someone else care for her. That man, Trevor Rowe, is now serving a life sentence in the Texas Department of Corrections for Marion's brutal and senseless murder. In this episode, you'll hear my recent conversation with Marion's family: her father, Emilio; her grandma, Sheilah; and her aunt, Carla, who told me about the precious girl they miss every day, how her loss has affected them, and what they've experienced over the past six years. This is part 2 of the heartbreaking story of Marion Jester-Montoya.Photos related to Marion's story can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.147989863442370&type=3You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. In my thirteenth episode, I shared the story of 10-month-old Marion Jester-Montoya, an adorable and joyful little girl with a head full of dark hair and an ever-present smile. Marion died on January 7, 2020, after her mother's boyfriend, Trevor Rowe, decided that instead of leaving Marion with his mother for the day like he usually did, he would stuff the baby into a backpack and leave her in the trunk of his car all day. Now, I'm re-telling Marion's story from start to finish, including every update I've come across since the original episode. Most importantly, this re-telling involves Marion's family, as it should have from the beginning. This is the heartbreaking story of Marion Jester Montoya.Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. (FYI: I'm still here, and new episodes are coming! See today's Facebook post.)Stacey Schuchart was nine months pregnant with her seventh child. None of her previous six children were legally in her custody, although at least some of them had been illegally staying with Stacey and her partner, Sean Buttery, for about a month when, on August 16, 2019, a 911 call summoned first responders to the family's home in Dayton, Kentucky, on a report of a child not breathing. Sean Ryan Buttery Jr., known as Ryan by those who loved him, was two days shy of 18 months of age when he died from a laundry list of injuries that caused, according to the coroner, "the level of trauma that she would expect from a serious car accident," including four pelvic fractures, a detached bladder, and other indications that Stacey had stomped her toddler son to death. This is the horrific story of Ryan Buttery.Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/posts/photo-gallery-12-64717945 You can also follow the podcast on:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com.
