In this riveting episode of The Backstory on the Shroud of Turin, host Guy Powell interviews veteran journalist and editor William West, author of Riddles of the Shroud and The Shroud Rises as the Carbon Date is Buried. William shares his decades-long journey investigating what he believes is the most profound mystery of all time: the Shroud of Turin.William takes us back to 1980 when he was first intrigued by David Rolfe's award-winning documentary, The Silent Witness, and brings us through to the recent revelations that the 1988 carbon dating test was not only flawed but deliberately mishandled. He discusses how original data was kept secret for 28 years, and how peer-reviewed studies now reveal that the dating results failed basic statistical validity.West walks listeners through the scientific and forensic evidence—from Jerusalem soil and springtime pollen to the 3D qualities and absence of pigment—proving this could not have been a medieval forgery. He also discusses the Sudarium of Oviedo and how its bloodstains match those on the Shroud.Whether you're a believer, skeptic, or just curious, this episode offers rich insight into the most debated relic in Christianity and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Discover how scientific inquiry and faith converge in this historical mystery.

Every 68 seconds, someone in America is sexually assaulted. Yet less than 3% of the perpetrators will ever spend time behind bars. Ashley Spence is doing something about it. At 19, Ashley was the victim of a home invasion rape that nearly took her life. She turned her pain into purpose and is leading the fight to use DNA to catch the criminals before they can harm another person, get justice for victims, and exonerate the innocent. Her first book, “Silent Witness” was recently published. We discuss that and more in the latest episode of The Determined People Podcast.

We are headed west on day two of our 12 Nightmares Before Christmas. It was pitch black on a gorgeous night in the middle of the Arizona desert in October 2003. There was not a cloud in the sky, but billions of stars were observable by the naked eye because Bumble Bee Road is in the middle of nowhere. In every direction, there was nothing but 90,000 acres of rolling hills dotted with Saguaro cactus spikes. Brandon Rumbaugh, age 20, a personal fitness instructor, and his girlfriend, Lisa Marie Gurrieri, a nineteen-year-old secretary for the Salt River Project, were celebrating their one-year anniversary. They had initially wanted to go to Disneyland to commemorate the occasion, but it was too expensive. The couple had been discussing marriage, so they didn't want to spend much money. So, instead, they thought it would be romantic to go back to the Arizona desert and do some stargazing as they did on their first date. This time, though, they decided to camp out under the stars. Lisa had never been camping before, and the couple didn't really have camping equipment either, so they asked Lisa's mother, Paula, if they could borrow her brand-new white F-150 truck, and they would just sleep in the back of the vehicle with some sleeping bags. Paula wasn't thrilled about them taking the truck since it needed an oil change, but in the end, she gave them permission. Lisa also borrowed her mother's video camera. Then, Lisa made another request; she asked her mother not to tell her Uncle Mike where they were going because she knew that he'd be upset and worried about them. The area had become known as a “party destination. Unfortunately, it would turn out that Uncle Mike had every reason to worry.Join Jen and Cam of Our True Crime Podcast on this episode entitled ‘The Bumblebee Road Murders: Brandon Rumbaugh & Lisa Marie Gurrieri.'If you have any information about this case, please contact the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office or Silent Witness at 480–948–6377.Thank you to our team:Written and researched by Lauretta AllenListener Discretion by Edward October from Octoberpod AMExecutive Producer Nico Vitesse of The Inky PawprintSources:https://www.youtube.com/watchv=Vy0TYqOo_sg&ab_channel=RachelShannonTrueCrimehttps://www.findagrave.com/memorial/22764900/lisa-marie-gurrierihttps://www.newspapers.com/image/125512144/match=1&terms=Paula%20Gurrieri%20https://www.newspapers.com/image/125512236/match=1&terms=Paula%20Gurrieri%20https://www.newspapers.com/image/125513123/match=1&terms=Paula%20Gurrieri%20https://www.newspapers.com/image/125454864/match=1&terms=Paula%20Gurrieri%20https://www.newspapers.com/image/125254509/match=1&terms=Paula%20Gurrieri%20https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/205289317/brandon-keith-rumbaughhttps://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/azcentral/name/brandon-rumbaugh-obituary?id=27815392https://www.newspapers.com/image/125516344/match=1&terms=Lisa%20Gurrieri%20https://www.newspapers.com/image/125255612/match=1&terms=Lisa%20Gurrieri%20https://www.newspapers.com/image/125503770/?terms=Lisa%20Gurrieri%20https://www.newspapers.com/image/125503785/match=1&terms=Lisa%20Gurrieri%20https://www.newspapers.com/image/125583182/?match=1&terms=Lisa%20Gurrieri%20 (Rusty Rankin)https://www.newspapers.com/image/126708234/?match=1&terms=Lisa%20Gurrieri%20 (Sonoma Ca couple)https://www.newspapers.com/image/125478691/?match=1&terms=Lisa%20Gurrieri%20https://www.newspapers.com/image/361287432/?match=1&terms=Lisa%20Gurrieri%20 (14 years later)https://www.newspapers.com/image/619647478/match=1&terms=Lisa%20Gurrieri%20https://www.abc15.com/news/crime/nearly-20-years-since-the-murders-of-lisa-gurrieri-and-brandon-rumbaugh-in-yavapai-countyhttps://www.9news.com/article/news/local/murder-suspect-dies-after-police-standoff/73-344894944https://darrensrides.blogspot.com/2011/09/crown-king-arizona.htmlhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/125583750/?match=1&terms=%22Rusty%20Rankin%22https://www.12news.com/article/news/crime/true-crime/scottsdale-couple-murdered-camping-trip-2003-unsolved/75-6cc84714-3ffc-49d5-9a06-5ba344db75f0 (image of the last photo taken on the camera)https://www.oxygen.com/crime-news/brandon-rumbaugh-lisa-gurrieri-cold-case-could-camera-hold-cluehttps://www.newspapers.com/image/125496399/match=1&terms=Michael%20Villershttps://the-m-files.medium.com/double-homicide-on-bumble-bee-road-4fa16a21d71https://www.nps.gov/aboutus/mortality-data.htmhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/125503785/match=1&terms=Crime%20Bumble%20Bee%20

The 2023 holiday season was already in full swing, with many of us busy wrapping gifts and preparing for festive gatherings, when 24-year-old Braonain McGinnis quietly vanished from his home in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Braonain and his mother, Patricia, worked opposite shifts, so it wasn't unusual for them to miss each other except for brief moments when coming or going. Therefore, Patricia did not immediately notice that her son was missing. Initially, she thought Braonain was at work and, later on, that he was simply asleep in his room. However, when Patricia realized Braonain had disappeared, she reported him missing to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, who began investigating his whereabouts on December 21, 2023. Christmas passed with no word from Braonain, and then New Year's came, deepening their concerns. A couple of weeks after Braonain was last seen, his family was shocked to learn that his vehicle had been found abandoned over 2,000 miles away in the mountains of Arizona. Extensive searches ensued, but no trace of Braonain McGinnis was ever found. It has been nearly a year since Braonain vanished, and his loved ones have worked tirelessly to try to piece together the clues that he left behind. If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Braonain McGinnis, please call the Coconino County Sheriff's Office at 928-774-4523 or 1-800-338-7888 or Silent Witness at 928-774-6111. Our card this week is Alfonso McCoy Jr. & Debra Gomez, The Queen of Clubs from Arizona. It seems like more than just a coincidence that this couple is on that particular face of cards, because by all accounts, Debbie was Alfonso's queen. He was Debbie's protector. But in the darkness of winter more than twenty years ago… not even he could save them.If you know anything about the murders of Alfonso McCoy Junior and Debra “Debbie” Gomez in February 2001 in Phoenix, Arizona, you can anonymously contact Silent Witness at 480-948-6377 or toll-free at 1-800-343-TIPS. Last week, you heard Part 1 of Cameron Sequeira's story. Cameron disappeared from Forest Lakes, Arizona, in June 2010, along with his dog, Zero. Cameron's parents were told that he dropped off his 2-year-old daughter with his girlfriend's great-grandmother, Louise, before leaving to walk his dog. Louise attempted to report Cameron missing the following day after he failed to return to pick up his daughter; however, an officer said she had to wait until Cameron was missing for more than 24 hours. Zero later came back without a collar or leash. In the days that followed, chaos ensued when another resident of the same property fled the state with his infant son. Cameron's parents learned about a rift between this man and Cameron, which led them to question whether this man's departure was connected to Cameron's disappearance or merely a coincidence, perhaps motivated by a desire to protect his child. Join us as we delve deeper into this mystery and unravel what may have happened to Cameron Sequeira. If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Cameron Sequeira, please call the Coconino County Sheriff's Office at 928-774-4523 or 1-800-338-7888. It was late June 2010 when 32-year-old Cameron Sequeira disappeared from Forest Lakes, Arizona. The story goes that Cameron left his young daughter with one of his girlfriend's relatives and then went for a walk with his beloved dog, Zero. Zero returned a couple of days later, but no one ever saw or heard from Cameron again. His parents were alerted that their son was missing, and they traveled from their home in Oregon to Arizona to aid in the search efforts to find Cameron. When they arrived in Forest Lakes, the whole situation wasn't adding up. Days after Cameron had vanished, authorities were alerted that a man living on the same property had fled the area with his infant son. Now, law enforcement had two mysteries on their hands. Were these events related? More than 14 years later, Cameron's family is still piecing together the clues to figure out what happened to their son.If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Cameron Sequeira, please call the Coconino County Sheriff's Office at 928-774-4523 or 1-800-338-7888. EPISODE 56 - “MARJORIE REYNOLDS: CLASSIC CINEMA STAR OF THE MONTH” - 10/07/2024 Most film fanatics agree that after the Paramount Picture's holiday classic “Holiday Inn” (1942), actress MARJORIE REYNOLDS, who gave a star-turn as struggling actress Linda Mason who gets a break singing and dancing in the seasonal nightclub run by BING CROSBY, should have been a big star. However, for reasons not quite clear, she didn't rise into the stratosphere. While she had a very respectable and long career, she just didn't soar to the top, as expected. As our Star of the Month, we will take a look into Marjorie Reynolds' life and career and explore our theories on why “Holiday Inn” did not make her a major star. Jason Young called his sister-in-law in a panic. He told her that he'd been looking on Ebay for a purse to buy for his wife Michelle. Like a dummy, he'd printed out a few of the purses he'd been eyeballing, and then he'd left the papers in the printer and gone out of town for a business trip. He worried that Michelle would spot the printouts and ruin the surprise. Jason's sister-in-law, Meredith Fisher, agreed to help out. But when Meredith arrived at the home, she sensed that something was amiss. And now for a note about our process. For this episode, Brandi copy and pasted from the best sources on the web.
