Oh man. After MONTHS of just terrible, mediocre movies, not only do we have a gem, not only do we have something refreshing, but we quite possibly have the best movie of the year. That's right. On today's episode of #talkintv, Dom & Chris are joined by longtime movie critic and Dom's old friend, Dustin "The Duster" Mason of Mr. G Movie Reviews to talk about James Gunn's THE Suicide Squad. A 2021 American superhero film based on DC Comics featuring the team Suicide Squad, based on the comics by John Ostrander. Produced by DC Films, Atlas Entertainment, and The Safran Company, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is a standalone sequel to Suicide Squad (2016) and the tenth film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Written and directed by Gunn and starring an ensemble cast comprised of Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, David Dastmalchian, Daniella Melchior, Jai Courtney, Peter Capald & Taika Waititi. The film sees Amanda Waller (Davis) assembling a new Task Force X to infiltrate a South American island nation known as Corto Maltese to destroy a Nazi-era laboratory known as Jotunheim, which secretly contains the giant alien starfish known as Starro the Conqueror. David Ayer was set to return as director for a Suicide Squad sequel by March 2016, but in December he chose to develop a Gotham City Sirens film instead. Warner Bros. considered several replacement directors before hiring Gavin O'Connor in September 2017. He left by October 2018, and Gunn was hired to write and direct the film after being temporarily fired by Disney and Marvel Studios as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He drew inspiration from war films and John Ostrander's 1980s Suicide Squad comics, and decided to explore new characters in a story separate from the first film's narrative, though some cast members do return from Suicide Squad. Filming began in Atlanta, Georgia, in September 2019, and concluded in Panama in February 2020. The film was released on August 5th, 2021, simultaneously debuting in theaters and on HBO Max, and the box office is currently suffering from it as the film only debuted to a measly $12.2 million domestically, as the Delta Variant surges across the United States. Dom, Chris & Dustin talk about all the ways in which the film is a vast improvement over the original, how it adds some much needed life to the ever-growing stale superhero genre, but mostly how it gave us seemingly the one thing we've been missing from this summer: a good, fun, entertaining, well made blockbuster. It's all covered here on the #talkintvpodcast #thesuicidesquad #thesuicidesquadmovie #jamesgunn #suicidesquad #suicidesquadsequel #suicidesquaddc #suicidesquadreview --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/talkintvpodcastgmailcom/support
The cat is out of the bag! We surprised Ben with Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Emily Blunt over Zoom, ahead of Disney's Jungle Cruise being released this week. Carrying all your grocery bags all at once? There are so many, we need an "Everyman's Olympics"! Finally, we caught up with Elaine Lamont, a woman who, along with a bunch of other "grannies", fought off thieves who tried to steal their money while playing bingo! What heroes! Enjoy the show.
