In this episode, I compare the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) to highlight a powerful lesson about choosing your career. DC had the advantages, but Marvel succeeded because they followed their passion—not just the money. I've found the same to be true in business. Too many chase cash and end up empty. I believe your career should align with what you love—or could grow to love—because when you pursue purpose, success tends to follow.Welcome to another episode of the O'Connor Bootstrap Podcast! The DC Universe (DCU) is an upcoming American media franchise and shared universe based on characters from DC Comics publications. It was created by James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios. The franchise is a soft reboot of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), a previous franchise featuring DC characters. Warner Bros. keeps burning cash on the DCEU. Aquaman 2 has JUST made $100 million domestic but is still ahead of The Flash. Still, it's got a long way to go to be profitable. Additional Context: "Aquaman 2," officially titled "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," has reportedly reached a significant milestone at the box office, crossing the $100 million mark. However, this achievement comes amidst a challenging period for the film and the broader DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The sequel to the 2018 hit "Aquaman," which grossed over $1.14 billion globally, has faced a less enthusiastic reception from both critics and audiences. Additional Context: The film received a tepid "B" CinemaScore, indicating weaker word-of-mouth compared to its predecessor's "A-" score. Furthermore, "Aquaman 2" opened lower than expected, with significant drops in box office revenue following its debut weekend. These results have raised concerns about the movie's profitability, especially given its reported budget of over $200 million, not including marketing expenses and possible reshoots. Factors contributing to the film's underperformance include growing superhero fatigue among audiences, controversy surrounding cast members, and general indifference to the sequel. This decline in interest has been observed not only in DC's offerings but also in some recent Marvel films, suggesting a broader trend of diminishing returns for superhero blockbusters. In the context of the DCEU, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" marks the fourth box office disappointment for the franchise in a single year, raising questions about the future direction and profitability of DC's cinematic universe. The film's performance adds to a series of setbacks for DC, which has struggled to consistently match the critical and commercial success of its Marvel counterparts. Episode 186!? This week we're switching things up and giving your thoughts on The Flash! The Flash is a 2023 American superhero film based on the DC character of the same name. Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Studios, Double Dream, and the Disco Factory, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is the 13th installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film is directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen / The Flash alongside Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue, and Michael Keaton. In the film, Barry travels back in time to prevent his mother's death, which brings unintended consequences. The development of a film based on The Flash began in the late 1980s, with multiple writers and directors attached to the project through 2014. The film was then redeveloped as a part of the DCEU, with Miller cast as the title character. Multiple directors were attached to the film over the following years, with Seth Grahame-Smith, Rick Famuyiwa, and the duo of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein all departing the project over creative differences. Muschietti and Hodson joined the film in July 2019, and pre-production began in January 2020. The film is influenced by the comic book storyline Flashpoint, featuring multiple DC characters, including Ben Affleck and Keaton reprising their respective versions of Batman. Principal photography took place from April to October 2021 at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden and on location around the United Kingdom. The Flash premiered at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on June 12, 2023, and was released in the United States on June 16, following multiple delays caused by director changes, the COVID-19 pandemic, post-production setbacks and controversies surrounding Miller. The film received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for its plot, action sequences, humor, and performances (particularly of Miller and Keaton), but criticism for the quality of its visual effects and screenplay. Editors - Jason Ballantine ACE and Paul Machliss ACE While THE FLASH editors Jason Ballantine ACE and Paul Machliss ACE* both hail from Australia, this latest entry in the DCEU would be their first time meeting one another.  Both editors have been advancing their careers away from their homeland for quite some time.  Jason has worked in LA for the past ten years, while Paul has been in London for the last twenty.  The director who would be responsible for bringing these two together is Andy Muschietti, Jason's director for IT (2017) and IT CHAPTER TWO (2019).  The two editors split editing duties pretty much down the middle for THE FLASH, each taking five of the film's ten reels.  One thing that did separate them for much of the film's development was geography.  While Jason was holding down the fort at Warner Brothers Studios in LA, Paul was on location in the UK for seven months, assembling main unit footage with Muschietti.  Following production, Machliss would join Jason in LA for six additional months of editing.  And it would be six more months before Ballantine would put the final touches on the highly anticipated "metahuman" movie. Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, THE FLASH is the thirteenth installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film is directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen (The Flash) alongside Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton, Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston and Maribel Verdú.  In the film, Barry travels back in time to prevent his mother's death, which traps him in an alternate reality without metahumans. Barry enlists the help of; his younger self, an older Batman and the Kryptonian castaway Supergirl in order to save this world from General Zod and return to his universe. JASON BALLANTINE ACE Jason Ballantine began his editing career in the horror genre (one which he would return to often) with the Australian thriller WOLF CREEK (2005).  From there he would edit other fright flicks, such as PROM NIGHT (2008), CRUSH (2009) and NEEDLE (2010).  But it would be his work on director Andy Muschietti's adaptation of Stephen King's IT (2017) and IT: CHAPTER TWO (2019) that would put an exclamation point on Jason's work in the horror medium.  Jason has also previously teamed up with directors Baz Luhrmann and Matthew Vaughn for THE GREAT GATSBY (2013) and THE KING'S MAN (2021) respectively. PAUL MACHLISS ACE While known most prominently for his work with Edgar Wright; SPACED (1999-2001), SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD (2010), THE WORLD'S END (2013), BABY DRIVER (2017) and LAST NIGHT IN SOHO (2021), Paul also edited; the pilot episode of FLEABAG (2016), eighteen episodes of THE IT CROWD (2006-2008) and films such as THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING (2019) and THE GENTLEMEN (2019).  For his work on BABY DRIVER, Paul was nominated for an Oscar® alongside co-editor John Amos. * [Publisher's Note] The guests wish to express their regret and apologies for using he/him pronouns in referencing Ezra Miller (they/them). Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flash is the superhero movie based on the DC Comics character of the same name, and it is the thirteenth instalment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Worlds collide when Barry (Ezra Miller) uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod (Michael Shannon) has arrived on Earth, threatening annihilation, and there are no metahumans to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman (Michael Keaton) out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian (Sasha Calle). Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry's only hope rests in his younger self and two different versions of the superheroes he knows.

Neo-Reality Collective Reviews The Batman by Matt Reeves! The Batman is a 2022 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Batman. Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Films, 6th & Idaho, and Dylan Clark Productions, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is a reboot of the Batman film franchise. The film was directed by Matt Reeves, who wrote the screenplay with Peter Craig. It stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman alongside Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. The film sees Batman, who has been fighting crime in Gotham City for two years, uncover corruption while pursuing the Riddler (Dano), a serial killer who targets Gotham's elite. Development began after Ben Affleck was cast as Batman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) in 2013. Affleck signed on to direct, produce, co-write, and star in The Batman, but had reservations about the project and dropped out. Reeves took over and reworked the story, removing the DCEU connections. He sought to explore Batman's detective side more than previous films, drawing inspiration from the films of Alfred Hitchcock and the New Hollywood era, and comics such as "Year One" (1987), The Long Halloween (1996–97), and Ego (2000). Pattinson was cast in May 2019, with further casting in late 2019. Principal photography took place in the UK and Chicago between January 2020 and March 2021. The Batman premiered at Lincoln Center in New York on March 1, 2022, and was theatrically released worldwide on March 4. It was delayed twice from an initial June 2021 release date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film received praise for the performances, cinematography, Reeves' direction, action sequences, and story, though some criticized its runtime. It is intended to launch a Batman shared universe, with two sequels planned and two spin-off television series in development for HBO Max. Background music: “White Atlantis” by Sergey Cheremisinov. “This isn't the podcast you deserve, but it is the one you need right now.” – Alfred Pennyworth in some modern iteration of Batman, probably. The Cinematic Schematic returns in our March edition to take a dive deep into Gotham's criminal underbelly to answer the most important question regarding The Batman: Does the big screen need another new take on Batman, especially so soon, and if so, is writer/director Matt Reeves up for the challenge? Rejoining host Caleb Masters to explore the answers to those questions is the podcast's quintessential and reliably talented Lucius Fox-like recurring host, Laron Chapman, the self-proclaimed “Calendar Man” of podcast guests, Daniel Bokemper, and the George Clooney Batman of guest hosts, Brock Lay. Since the character first made his way to the big screen in Batman: The Movie (1966), the caped crusader has been the star of eleven theatrically released films(not including 2017's Justice League) featuring six different actors in live-action and two different voice actors (never forget Kevin Conroy or Will Arnett). Despite eventually becoming a fresh standalone take on the character, The Batman originally started as another DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movie featuring writer/director/producer/star Ben Affleck. In 2017, the Argo writer/director stepped away […] The post The Batman – The Cinematic Schematic Review appeared first on The Cinematropolis.

The Batman is a 2022 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Batman. Produced by DC Films, 6th & Idaho, and Dylan Clark Productions, and distributed by Warner Bros. Set after two years of fighting crime, the film sees Batman uncover corruption in Gotham City while pursuing the Riddler (Dano), a serial killer who targets Gotham's elite. He sought to explore Batman's detective side more than previous films, drawing inspiration from 1970s films and comics such as "Year One" (1987), The Long Halloween (1996–97), and Ego (2000). Pattinson was cast in May 2019, with further casting in late 2019. Principal photography took place in the UK and Chicago between January 2020 and March 2021. The Batman premiered in London on February 23, 2022, and was theatrically released on March 4. It was delayed twice from an initial June 2021 release date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Critics praised the performances, cinematography, direction, visual style, action sequences, and story, though some criticized the length. It is intended to launch a Batman shared universe, with two sequels planned and two spin-off television series in development for HBO Max. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

Alexis Hejna, Jason Teasley and Mark Radulich present their Peacemaker 2022 Season 1 Review! Peacemaker (2022) is an American television series created by James Gunn for the streaming service HBO Max, based on the DC Comics character Peacemaker. It is the first DC Extended Universe (DCEU) television series and a spin-off from the 2021 film The Suicide Squad. Set after the events of the film, the series further explores jingoistic killer Christopher Smith / Peacemaker. It is produced by The Safran Company and Troll Court Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television, with Gunn serving as showrunner. John Cena stars as the title character, reprising his role from The Suicide Squad, with Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick also starring. Gunn conceived Peacemaker after noting Cena's strength as a dramatic actor while filming The Suicide Squad, and wrote all eight episodes while completing the film during the COVID-19 pandemic. HBO Max ordered Peacemaker straight-to-series in September 2020, and additional casting took place over the following months. Filming began in Vancouver, Canada, in January 2021, with Gunn directing five episodes. Production ended in July. Gunn chose to use hair metal songs for the series' soundtrack, including "Do Ya Wanna Taste It" by Wig Wam for the opening titles; the title sequence features the series' cast performing a choreographed dance number. In this week's episode of The Cinematic Schematic, we take another trip into the DC Extended Universe(DCEU) to provide our spoiler-free review of THE Suicide Squad before jumping into a spoiler-filled analysis discussion of the film. In August 2016 Suicide Squad became a massive box office success, grossing over $746 million worldwide. Despite being seen by so many people, the movie received hugely negative reviews (it's currently sitting at 26% on Rotten Tomatoes) and has largely been remembered as a disaster by audiences. Following his temporary firing from Disney, Warner Bros. tapped writer/director James Gunn to make a movie in the DCEU. With the promise he'd have near-total creative freedom from WB executives, Gunn chose to make an R-rated Suicide Squad film with a budget of $185 million. The film is stacked with a star-studded cast including returning stars Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, and Jai Courtney alongside newcomers Idris Elba, John Cena, Daniela Melchior, Sylvester Stallone, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, and many others. Taking a stab at a sequel to a much-maligned (yet commercially successful) DCEU film would be total suicide without the right squad. *Release the tomatoes* Much like Captain Boomerang or Rick Flag, it's only appropriate […] The post The Suicide Squad – The Cinematic Schematic Review appeared first on The Cinematropolis.
