Editors - Jason Ballantine ACE and Paul Machliss ACE While THE FLASH editors Jason Ballantine ACE and Paul Machliss ACE* both hail from Australia, this latest entry in the DCEU would be their first time meeting one another.  Both editors have been advancing their careers away from their homeland for quite some time.  Jason has worked in LA for the past ten years, while Paul has been in London for the last twenty.  The director who would be responsible for bringing these two together is Andy Muschietti, Jason's director for IT (2017) and IT CHAPTER TWO (2019).  The two editors split editing duties pretty much down the middle for THE FLASH, each taking five of the film's ten reels.  One thing that did separate them for much of the film's development was geography.  While Jason was holding down the fort at Warner Brothers Studios in LA, Paul was on location in the UK for seven months, assembling main unit footage with Muschietti.  Following production, Machliss would join Jason in LA for six additional months of editing.  And it would be six more months before Ballantine would put the final touches on the highly anticipated "metahuman" movie. Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, THE FLASH is the thirteenth installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film is directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen (The Flash) alongside Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton, Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston and Maribel Verdú.  In the film, Barry travels back in time to prevent his mother's death, which traps him in an alternate reality without metahumans. Filming began in Atlanta, Georgia, in September 2019, and concluded in Panama in February 2020.   The Suicide Squad was theatrically released in the United Kingdom on July 30, 2021, and in the United States on August 5, while streaming on HBO Max for a month starting the same day. It received positive reviews from critics, who praised Gunn's direction, action sequences, performances, visual style, and the writing, with many finding it to be a significant improvement over its predecessor. Peacemaker, a spin-off television series with Cena starring, is set to debut on HBO Max in January 2022.

In this week's episode of The Cinematic Schematic, we take another trip into the DC Extended Universe(DCEU) to provide our spoiler-free review of THE Suicide Squad before jumping into a spoiler-filled analysis discussion of the film. In August 2016 Suicide Squad became a massive box office success, grossing over $746 million worldwide. Despite being seen by so many people, the movie received hugely negative reviews (it's currently sitting at 26% on Rotten Tomatoes) and has largely been remembered as a disaster by audiences. Following his temporary firing from Disney, Warner Bros. tapped writer/director James Gunn to make a movie in the DCEU. With the promise he'd have near-total creative freedom from WB executives, Gunn chose to make an R-rated Suicide Squad film with a budget of $185 million. Justice League, released by Warner Bros. Pictures in 2017, suffered a difficult production. Its script underwent major changes before and during production between 2016 and 2017. In May 2017, Snyder stepped down during post-production following the death of his daughter, and Joss Whedon was hired to finish the film, completing it as an uncredited director. Whedon oversaw reshoots and other changes that incorporated a brighter tone and more humor, and cut the runtime down significantly in accordance with a mandate from Warner Bros. The theatrical version of Justice League received mixed reviews and was a box office disappointment, leading Warner Bros. to reevaluate the DCEU's future, and to focus on developing films around individual characters with less regard for a shared narrative. As details surfaced about the film's troubled production and its state before Snyder stepped down, many fans expressed interest in an alternate cut more faithful to Snyder's vision. Fans and members of the cast and crew petitioned for the release of this, which they nicknamed the Snyder Cut. Industry insiders considered the release unlikely. However, Warner Bros. decided to move ahead with it in February 2020; and in May, Snyder announced that the original cut would be released as Zack Snyder's Justice League via the streaming service HBO Max. It cost around $70 million to complete the visual effects, score, and editing, with new material filmed in October 2020. The release was originally planned as both a six-episode miniseries and a four-hour film, but the miniseries concept was scrapped by January 2021. The film is dedicated to the memory of Snyder's daughter, Autumn. Zack Snyder's Justice League was released on HBO Max in the United States on March 18, 2021. Flula Borg is a German actor, musician, comedian, YouTube personality, and DJ who is also known simply as Flula or DJ Flula. He lives in Los Angeles, California. Flula Borg is set to star in the new Suicide Squad movie. The Suicide Squad is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics team of the same name. Produced by DC Films, Atlas Entertainment, and The Safran Company, and set for distribution by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is intended to be a standalone sequel to Suicide Squad (2016) and the tenth film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Written and directed by James Gunn, the film stars an ensemble cast including Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Peter Capaldi. In the film, a task force of imprisoned convicts are sent to destroy a Nazi-era prison and laboratory.
