Rockin' Robin Summer continues with the second Boy Wonder himself—Jason Todd. Before he was the Robin fans voted to kill, Jason had some bizarre beginnings. Zach walks Mike through his Pre-Crisis origin as a circus kid in “The Flying Todds” (complete with a Guy Gardner haircut), his parents' murder at the hands of Killer Croc, his awkward time living with Bruce Wayne, and the ridiculous custody battle where the villainess Nocturna tried to adopt him. We also cover Jason's Post-Crisis reboot, where he's introduced stealing the tires off the Batmobile, his hotheaded edge compared to Dick Grayson, and the shocking moment where Robin maybe (definitely) straight-up murdered a guy. It's the messy, chaotic journey of Jason Todd. From knockoff Dick Grayson to the most controversial Robin of all time. #jasontodd #robin #batman #dccomics #dc #comicbookpodcast #brosfoesheroes #deathinthefamily Learn more about your ad choices. Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com Robin: EVERYTHING WAS HOLY…. What are five things no one would know about Burt Ward who played Robin in the TV show Batman? ### 1. **A Speed-Reading Sensation** Before hitting the big time, young Burt became an accomplished speed-reader. He was tested before the American Medical Society in Beverly Hills and clocked a staggering **30,000 words per minute with 90% comprehension**—far beyond average reading speeds. ([Classic Movie Hub - CMH][1], [TV Banter][2]) --- ### 2. **World's Youngest Professional Ice Skater** At just **two years old**, Burt was featured in the magazine *Strange as It Seems* as the **world's youngest professional ice skater**, thanks to a traveling ice show owned by his father. ([Wikipedia][3], [Classic Movie Hub - CMH][1]) --- ### 3. **He Did (Most of) His Own Dangerous Stunts** Unlike many stars, Burt performed most of his own stunts, even though his face made using a stunt double difficult. This led to multiple emergency room visits—**dozens**, he says—due to injuries from stunts like being tied to a table with a real buzz saw inches away or suspended above Bengal tigers. ([Wikipedia][3], [Express][4]) A Reddit user humorously shared one of Burt's more wild stories, recalling how during one stunt he was flung from the Batmobile when the door unexpectedly opened—and cracked an arm. ([Reddit][5]) --- ### 4. **Musical Collaborations with Frank Zappa** During *Batman*'s peak, Burt recorded several tracks produced by Tom Wilson and arranged by Frank Zappa. Notably, he released a single featuring "Boy Wonder, I Love You" (written by Zappa) and a cover of "Orange Colored Sky." ([Wikipedia][3], [Classic Movie Hub - CMH][1]) --- ### 5. **Rescue Work for Giant-Breed Dogs** Beyond Hollywood, Burt—and his wife Tracy—devoted themselves to canine welfare. In **1994**, they founded *Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions*, significantly impacting the lives of giant-breed dogs. Their nonprofit has facilitated **over 15,500 adoptions** and often houses around **50 dogs at home** awaiting forever families. ([Wikipedia][3], [People.com][6]) Additionally, their company *Gentle Giants* produces natural pet food aimed at boosting pets' longevity and wellbeing. ([People.com][6]) --- ### Bonus Tidbits: * Burt actually chose his own stage name: swapping “Gervis” for *Ward* (his mother's maiden name) and altering “Bert” to “Burt” because it had more punch. ([Wikipedia][3], [Classic Movie Hub - CMH][1]) * He holds a **Guinness World Record** for portraying the same live-action superhero in the most episodes (120 as Robin). ([Facts.net][7], [The Famous People][8]) * In **2020**, Burt received a star on the **Hollywood Walk of Fame**—a fitting tribute to the iconic Boy Wonder. ([Hollywood Walk of Fame][9]) To understand the deep meaning of redemption in Greek scripture, it is essential to explore the key terms used by New Testament writers, primarily agorazō and its cognates (exagorazō), and lytron with its related forms (apolytrōsis, lytrōsis). These words paint a picture of redemption as a decisive, costly, and legally binding rescue from the slavery of sin and its consequences. Key Greek words for redemption Agorazō (ἀγοράζω) and exagorazō (ἐξαγοράζω) The verb agorazō means "to buy or purchase" and is derived from agora, the Greek marketplace or slave market. The related verb exagorazō, which means "to buy out or buy from," intensifies this meaning. Bought at a price: The use of agorazō emphasizes that humanity was on the auction block of sin but has been purchased by Christ. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6:20, "For you were bought with a price" (ēgorasthēte timēs), underscoring the high cost of this purchase. Freedom from the Law: The more intensive term exagorazō highlights a targeted purchase designed to remove something or someone from their previous state. For example, Galatians 4:5 says Christ came to "redeem those who were under the law" (exagorazō tous hupo nomon). This signifies not just a general purchase but a deliberate act of freeing people from the curse and bondage of the Law. Lytron (λύτρον), apolytrōsis (ἀπολύτρωσις), and lytrōsis (λύτρωσις) This cluster of words emphasizes the idea of a ransom payment that brings about release. Lytron (ransom price): Lytron specifically refers to the monetary price paid to free a slave or captive. In Matthew 20:28 and Mark 10:45, Jesus says he came "to give his life as a ransom (lytron) for many," directly comparing his death to a payment made to secure the freedom of others. Apolytrōsis (completed redemption): The preposition apo is an intensifier, making apolytrōsis a "stronger form" of the word that denotes a complete and finalized liberation. This is the word used when describing the future, full redemption of believers' bodies at the resurrection (Romans 8:23) and the day of ultimate redemption (Ephesians 4:30). Lytrōsis (the experience of release): This noun refers to the deliverance or liberation that results from the payment of a ransom. Hebrews 9:12 explains that Christ "obtained eternal redemption (lytrōsis) for us". The holistic and progressive nature of redemption The deep meaning of redemption in the Greek New Testament moves beyond a simple, one-time transaction to a multi-faceted and progressive work of God. Past: An accomplished fact The price for sin has been paid through Christ's death on the cross, accomplishing a decisive and objective redemption for all believers. The sacrifice of Christ is the ultimate ransom (lytron), securing our justification and the forgiveness of sins (Romans 3:24). Present: An ongoing reality The power of redemption is at work in believers' lives, delivering them from sin's power and purifying them to be a people for God's possession (Titus 2:14). As part of this transformation, believers are no longer slaves to sin but bondservants of righteousness (Romans 6:18). Future: A complete deliverance Redemption is not yet fully realized. Believers "groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies" (Romans 8:23). The final stage of redemption will be the complete liberation from corruption and the resurrection of our bodies when Christ returns (Luke 21:28). A covenantal and communal significance Understanding the Greek word for redemption also brings with it significant implications for our relationship with God and others. A treasured possession (peripoiēsis) 1 Peter 2:9 refers to believers as "a people for his own possession (peripoiēsis)." The Greek term highlights that God did not simply purchase us to release us, but to acquire and preserve us as his treasured property. This identity echoes the Old Testament concept of Israel as God's segullah, his special, prized possession. Motivating holiness - HOLY MOTIVATION BATMAN The knowledge that we belong to God motivates believers to live holy lives and not grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30). The infinite cost of our redemption, the blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:18–19), calls believers to live not for themselves but for Christ.

On Joe Untamed, Joe dives into the turbulent currents of America's political and global landscape with two powerhouse guests who bring unmatched insight to the table. First, Clare M. Lopez, a former CIA operations officer and national security expert, joins us to unpack the seismic implications of President Trump's summit with Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska. With her extensive background in counterterrorism and geopolitical analysis, Lopez will explore how this high-stakes meeting could reshape U.S. alliances with NATO and Middle Eastern partners, especially amid fears of concessions to Russia that could embolden authoritarian regimes like Iran. She'll also tackle Trump's controversial federal takeover of Washington, D.C.'s police, analyzing its legality and impact on local autonomy, drawing on her roles with the Center for Security Policy and Sen. Ted Cruz's advisory team. Buckle up for a no-holds-barred look at these defining moments. Next, we welcome Casey Putsch, the innovative force behind Genius Garage and a fearless YouTube commentator known as "Casey the Car Guy." From his Ohio workshop, Putsch doesn't just build groundbreaking vehicles like the turbine-powered Batmobile—he challenges the status quo, calling out U.S. government corruption and political elites. Casey will share his unfiltered take on Trump's D.C. crime crackdown, the broader political climate, and the alleged “shadow government” influence he sees undermining America. As a mentor transforming students' lives through hands-on engineering at Genius Garage, he'll also reveal how his non-profit bridges academia and industry, empowering the next generation to think independently and innovate boldly. This episode is a collision of national security expertise and grassroots truth-telling, confronting the forces shaping our nation and world. From the risks of Trump's foreign policy gambits to the erosion of trust in our institutions, Lopez and Putsch will offer clarity and challenge assumptions. Whether it's the delicate balance of federal power in D.C. or the fight for authentic conservative voices, we're cutting through the noise to deliver actionable insights. Join us for a conversation that's as urgent as it is enlightening, equipping you to navigate today's complex political terrain.
Read transcriptHoly cowl-wearing console catastrophe, comic crusaders! This week on Play Comics we're grappling-hooking our way into the surprisingly deep shadows of 2005's Batman Begins video game – because apparently someone at Eurocom looked at Christopher Nolan's gritty reboot and thought, “You know what this needs? A fear meter and the ability to summon actual bats to terrify thugs into submission!” Released across more platforms than Batman has traumatic childhood memories, this movie tie-in somehow managed to land on PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and Game Boy Advance without completely embarrassing itself in the process. While most movie games crash and burn faster than if I tried to drive the Batmobile, this stealth-action adventure actually tried to do something interesting with its “High Frequency Transponder” gadget and environmental intimidation mechanics that made enemies drop their weapons in sheer terror. Joining us for this digital descent into Gotham's criminal underworld is the incredibly talented Wells Thompson, creative mastermind behind indie comic sensations and the brilliant mind that helped bring us The Scorpion and the Queen (among a bunch of other Kickstarter projects) and the force over at WellsThompson.com. Wells brings his unique perspective on comic storytelling and adaptations to help us figure out whether this game captured the essence of both the Dark Knight's origin story and Nolan's cinematic vision, or if it belongs in Arkham Asylum alongside the rest of the movie tie-in disasters. From the surprisingly robust stealth segments that actually rewarded patience over button-mashing, to those Batmobile sequences that had us questioning our life choices, we'll explore how this Eurocom-developed title managed to be the last Batman movie to get a proper video game adaptation – and whether that's a good thing or a tragedy. So grab your utility belt and join us as we investigate whether fear really is the best weapon, or if this game should have stayed in the cave where it belongs! Learn such things as: Where does this game fit into the timeline of the movie? Is it a problem that I could just buy the driving parts by themselves? How many times can you do the same puzzle? And so much more! You can find Wells on BlueSky @wellsthomp, his newsletter Comics, Cats, and Cocktails, his current Kickstarter The Scorpion and the Queen or just go ahead and see all of his stuff on Kickstarter, and of course his website WellsThompson.com. 15.08.2025 pt 1 On our final Friday show before a major format change, Gareth and Ben delivered a whirlwind of sports, politics, and jaw-dropping oddities. They kicked off with news that Fridays will soon be longer and packed with live guests, before diving into Ben's golf plans and a comical look at Donald Trump's armored “Batmobile” golf cart. The sporting lineup was huge — from the Rugby Championship and MTN8 semi-finals to Premier League kick-off and UFC 319's explosive showdown between Drius and Kamzat. The conversation took stranger turns with an outrageous 1970s tale dubbed tape,” mixing disbelief with dark humour, and a sharp discussion about violent taxi versus e-hailing clashes in Soweto. The hosts also unpacked global politics — from New Zealand's criticism of Israel to the UK's royal gossip — while never straying too far from the banter and audience interaction that keep their community hooked. It was a send-off show that had everything: high-stakes sport, political fire, absurd human behaviour, and street-level South African realities — a perfect snapshot of why the live format keeps our audience coming back. What happens when Batman enters the cyberpunk future of 1990… via early-90s CGI? In this episode of Bros, Foes, and Heroes, Zach and Mike dive into the bizarre, ambitious, and wildly outdated world of Batman: Digital Justice — one of DC's earliest fully computer-generated graphic novels. From 8 megs of RAM and Tron-style Batmobiles to hoverboarding Robins, it's a wild ride through a digital Gotham like no other. Oh boy... you win some and you lose some. While Adventures of Captain Marvel from Republic Films was a real winner the same cannot be said for the racist and silly 1943 Columbia Film The Batman. The casting was beyond terrible and there were few good qualities about this 15-part serial. The costuming was fine but today we meet a Batman who never wins a fight, a Robin that was at least twice too old, and dialog meant to offend probably everyone. This film did introduce The Bat's Cave to Batman lore and just wait until you hear about the amazing special effect that accompanied the Batmobile! The 2013 movie of the same name is an obscure film, and made like a found footage film. Read his article on RetroZap.com. We loved TV shows where our heroes jumped in their fancy car and sped off to save the day! Sometimes those cars were serious roadsters, and sometimes they were big ol' vans that carried the whole group. This week 16 of those cars pitted against each other in a variety of characteristics from size, reliability, speed, and handling. Each round brings an exciting matchup and a few surprises. Will your favorite take home the trophy? Which cars weren't featured in the tournament? What's your favorite? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Room-a-zoom-zoom!” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Today, we're diving into a world of capes and incredible local talent. The Detroit Historical Society has just opened a brand new, year-long exhibit called "Heroes vs. Villains: The Art of the Comic Book," and it's packed with surprising connections to our city. Did you know Detroiters had a hand in everything from The Simpsons and Futurama to the Batmobile and legendary DC and Marvel storylines? We sat down with the curators – Billy Wal-Winkel, Brendan Roney, and Kevin Hawthorn – right in the middle of the exhibit to get the inside scoop. I really enjoyed this conversation. a passionate defense of Ben Affleck's chin, and more nipple-based humor than should legally be allowed on a podcast. We also pitch Nicole Kidman as Harley Quinn, speculate on Batman's secret stash of Pearl necklaces, and marvel at the sheer audacity of that universal remote Batcave shutdown. This one is a glorious mess — the movie and the episode. So is Batman Forever actually worth revisiting? Depends who you ask. There is charm in its chaos, but it's hard not not feel punished by a glow-in-the-dark god. But either way, it made for one hell of a good time. Join us as we light the fires, summon the Nipples of Gondor, and ask the real questions — like what exactly is your Batmobile made of? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112462/

Rest in peace, Val Kilmer. This week, we're devoting our episode to Val and his smoldering performance in Joel Schumacher's first foray into the Batman franchise. There will never be another Dark Knight like you, Mr. Kilmer.Between Jim Carrey's unhinged take on the Riddler, Tommy Lee Jones trying against all odds to out-crazy him, and the overwhelming aura of horny energy exuding from Nicole Kidman, there is a lot to unpack with this 90s classic. Strap in, we're getting takeout in the (very phallic) Batmobile.Next week, it's Schumacher's even more deranged follow-up, BATMAN & ROBIN. This week on The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of, it's all about movie cars—despite David's at-best half-interest in the topic. But Ryan and special guest star/producer/super editor Bart go ham with celebrity guest Rob Klein on what it means to be a “movie car” enthusiast, the movie cars of history that really rev their engines, and an in-depth discussion of the restoration of the A-car from Back to the Future. Is there a better name for the head of the College Football Playoff committee than Warde? Joe Burrow bought a Batmobile and has thought about pulling up to a game dressed as Batman, but Greg Cote is not very happy about it. Can Joe Burrow make losing cool? Mike Ryan is wearing slacks, and Greg Cote doesn't want to even get started on the Ford Pinto. What was Greg Cote's fourth car? Plus, Smetty and Mike Ryan want Greg to read their new book 50 Shades Of Greg, but, after reading a passage, Greg is refusing to in order to uphold his journalistic integrity. Also, we continue our discussion about the College Football Playoff and revisit Mike Ryan's takes from yesterday including that Syracuse is just as good as Alabama and South Carolina should be in the Playoff.
