Pick Dundee aka (@TheColbyD) & NC Nick (@NC__NicK) break down the upcoming 2024 Michigan State Spartans offense, defense and special teams and key in on their upcoming schedule. Did Michigan State hit a home run when they landed former Oregon State Beavers head coach Jonathan Smith? Did Michigan State win the transfer portal when Jonathan Smith brought Aidan Chiles with him from Oregon State? Will Nathan Carter have a bounce back season after injuries in 2023?Is the Michigan State Spartans wideout room perhaps underrated with the likes of Nick Marsh, Alante Brown, Montorie Foster and Jaron Glover? Is Jack Velling about to be one of the top tight ends in the Big Ten? How concerned should we be with the Michigan State offensive line and the amount of transfer portal losses upon it? Is kicker Jonathan Kim one of the better kickers in the Conference? How key was it for the Michigan State Spartans to land a proven defensive coordinator in Joe Rossi? Will the Spartans defensive line be surprisingly good with the likes of Khris Bogle, Maverick Hansen, D'Quan Douse and Quandaries Dunnigan? Will the Spartans linebacking core be super legit with Cal Haladay, Wayne Matthews and Jordan Turner? Should the Sparty secondary be something to watch with Ed Woods, Chance Rucker, Dillon Tatum, and Malik Spencer? We talk it all and more on this Michigan State Spartans edition of The College Football Experience. They defeated the Michigan State Spartans with a furious rally, pouring on 15 third-quarter points in the third quarter Join the BWI Live Postgame Show to discuss the game. We're breaking down the game and how Penn State used subtle tweaks to the passing game that unlocked big plays. We're live moments after the game's conclusion for 60 minutes of postgame discussion. Penn State offense finally gets its explosive plays After months of frustration and conversation, the Penn State offense finally went off against a struggling Michigan State team. During the game, the offense hit explosive plays of 60, 53, 50, and 40 yards. Drew Allar hit a 60-yard pass to Omari Evans in a full-circle moment that echoed his second pass of the season against West Virginia to begin the year. Meanwhile, Kaytron Allen ripped off two runs of 50 and 40 against the Spartan's defense to reestablish the team's big-play prowess. Nick Singleton chipped into the action with a 53-yard screen pass, with a great block from Tyler Warren. Singleton capped off his day with a 14-yard burst in the red zone during the fourth quarter. However, things were close early; the team gained 308 yards at halftime but only 13 points. Penalties and sacks in the red zone stymied the scoring opportunities early. However, Penn State eventually showed they had the firepower to knock out Michigan State. Defense dominant once again As expected, the Penn State defense was dominant once again. The starting unit pitched a shutout. The defense was relentless, with six sacks during the competitive portion of the game. Michigan State put together two potential scoring drives, but Jaylen Reed snuffed the first out with an interception. Adisa Isaac forced an intentional grounding pass from wide receiver. Alante Brown. From there, the team never mounted a threat to the Penn State defense. The starters forced seven three-and-outs and 74 yards in the game. However, injuries were a scare during the game. Defensive end Chop Robinson was stepped on during the first half's final play. JB Nelson came out of the first drive and wasn't seen again. Finally, Abdul Carter was injured and didn't return to the game. We're discussing those points and your thoughts on the Penn State offense and defense on the BWI Live Postgame Show. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Learn more about your ad choices. Offense vs ECU Starts at 1:00 Michigan football has returned! The red hat guy chased Brian out of the stadium at the end of this game. ECU kicked The Sad Field Goal to keep their scoring streak alive. Train made all the right people upset so bravo for that. Initial results are that JJ McCarthy has made The Leap and has taken the training wheels off (and also has the ability to “extend the neutral zone”). Are teams going to continue to stuff the run and ask JJ to beat them, especially if he says “ok”? Running dive five times in a row just to get Donovan Edwards a touchdown probably wasn't necessary. The play action approach in this game was much better than last year. Myles Hinton probably isn't going to be the starting tackle once the starting line is set, Trente Jones came in and immediately started moving people. Barnhart at left tackle seemed a lot more smooth. It was an excellent day for the receivers. Roman Wilson doesn't block like Ronnie Bell but can get over the top of a safety playing 11 yards off the line. AJ Barner's blocking wasn't encouraging, Bredeson is probably the second blocking tight end. Is Colston Loveland so good that he's just boring now? [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Defense vs ECU Starts at 42:32 Michigan rotated five DTs and five DEs and there seemed to be no drop-off. Hausmann looked really good, he'll be a dude. You could also move him at either middle or weak side linebacker. The secondary was missing Will Johnson and Rod Moore, Josh Wallace looked really good. The Almost Interception was a great play and an encouraging sign for the season. Sabb looked competent out there, ECU isn't going to stress safeties much though. The way Derrick Moore moves around the field, you have to imagine he'll break out eventually. Kenneth Grant - OH LAWD HE COMIN. Josiah Stewart is looking like a fairly one-dimensional passing down kind of guy. 3. Hot Takes and Special Teams Starts at 1:05:57 Tommy Doman has a cannon of a leg, so punting is back in a good place. His kickoffs were also bombs. James Turner had a really weird game at kicking. Missed an extra point and a long field goal but made the best field goal of his career. We did not see Alex Orji returning punts, sadly. Jake Thaw as a punt returner didn't look comfortable at first. Plenty of opportunities this season to field punts, at least. Nice to see Michigan notice a defense that's aggressive at stopping the run and airing it out sooner, rather than waiting a couple quarters. Keep an eye on Kalel Mullings as the season goes on. The scoreboards are bigger but the replay part of the scoreboards are not. Do we need to keep cycling what 7:30pm games are on that night? Officiating was… kind. That targeting on JJ was egregious, it was exactly the kind of hit the game is trying to get rid of. 4. Around the Big Ten with Jamie Mac Starts at 1:33:48 Ohio State - 23 Indiana - 3 Ohio State really couldn't do much against the Indiana defense… Egbuka and Harrison combined for 34 yards. This is not going to be the #1 offense in the country in SP+. They're still getting stuffed on 3rd down. Indiana had a great defensive game plan but couldn't do a thing on offense. McCord does not look comfortable being aggressive throwing downfield. Michigan State - 31 Central Michigan - 7 We probably didn't learn much about the Michigan State defense because Central Michigan has a freshman QB who can't do much. Noah Kim had an awful first quarter performance. This was too much of a fight against a bottom half MAC team. Alante Brown was knocked out of the game and went back in later - it was a Shane Morris incident again. Illinois - 30 Toledo - 28 Toledo held a lead for most of this game because Illinois couldn't get out of their own way. 90 yards of penalties in the first half but they got a pick six in the second half. Iowa - 24 Utah State - 13 Did not meet the 25 points required to save Brian Ferentz's career. Cade McNamara resumes his role as a game manager, but they scored on their first two drives. Couldn't do much more after that. Penn State - 38 West Virginia - 15 Drew Allar's first start went very well against a defense that's not supposed to be very good, but an encouraging sign for Penn State. Penn State running game was okay. West Virginia could possibly be really bad? Penn State missed two field goals. Minnesota - 13 Nebraska - 10 You can take Scott Frost out of the state but you can't take the Scott Frost out of the football program. Nebraska had a 94% chance to win this late into the game. Minnesota could not run the ball at all. Nebraska threw three picks, losing in the most Nebraska way possible. Maryland - 38 Towson - 6 Moving on! Wisconsin - 38 Buffalo - 17 Wisconsin has moved to an air raid passing offense and put up 300 yards of rushing between their two backs. Air raid not fully installed yet. Tanner Mordecai was 24/31 for 189 yards and two interceptions. Braelon Allen had 7 catches for 25 yards. Mo Linguist is Buffalo's head coach so they have a good secondary. Purdue - 35 Fresno State - 39 Purdue is going to take some time to rebuild, it's year zero. Despite just playing Purdue last year, we don't recognize any of their receivers. Get Donovan Edwards to this game and let him feast. Northwestern - 7 Rutgers - 24 Nope! MUSIC: “Love T.K.O.”— Teddy Pendergrass “Potions”— Day Wave “Chosen to Deserve”— Wednesday “Across 110th Street”

He was carted off of the field after the first play of the game and returned before the first half even ended. How is that possible?

We've got smattering of MSU football tidbits to get to starting with going through where we want to see MSU football go from here in the portal. After shoring up depth with Jalen Sami and Alante Brown the last two weeks, what other positions need some attention as we go deeper into summer? We then get to another mailbag question to see who we think will be joining Tre Mosley as a starting receiver? And between Nathan Carter and Jalen Berger, who will get the bulk of the carries and how many will it be?We then rank the importance of MSU's home games for the upcoming season and then add a recruiting tidbit about top 200 prospect Nathan Roy.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. And between Nathan Carter and Jalen Berger, who will get the bulk of the carries and how many will it be? We then rank the importance of MSU's home games for the upcoming season and then add a recruiting tidbit about top 200 prospect Nathan Roy. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! A busy Saturday show here as Jaden Akins kicked off MSU's weekend by declaring for the NBA Draft. What did he and Tom Izzo say in their statements that have us feeling good about the future? And what are the important NBA Draft dates we need to keep an eye on?We then head to the football field where MSU football saw AJ Kirk enter the transfer portal. Where does this leave MSU as they go shopping for spring transfer portal talent, and could Alante Brown be the first addition for MSU in this cycle? We also hit on the college football rule changes that will finally shorten the length of games.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. The Husker247 trio got together on Friday morning to knock out a quick 30-minute podcast touching on the news of the back half of the week and more. The show starts with the news of Alante Brown leaving the team and Hunter Anthony leaving the program. Brian Christopherson explains why Brown's departure is notable, but also suggests people don't write off the wide receiver entirely. Michael Bruntz discusses Anthony's role at Nebraska in 2022 and why it looked to be more of the same in 2023 and why the former Oklahoma State Cowboy might be in the market for something else. Both Husker247 beat writers believe it's simply the start of the attrition that has to come for the Huskers as Nebraska looks to get down to the correct numbers. From there conversation shifts to recruiting where the big March visit weekend is discussed and names are mentioned of top players expected to be on campus. The Huskers are planning a strong weekend which could include having two of the Top 5 players in the country on the same visit. Recruiting remains the topic as the trio discussed Carter Nelson's offer and why Nebraska continues to see a surge of schools come in and make offers that have otherwise rarely ever shown interest in players from the state. Finally things finish up with the red-hot Husker basketball team, a key game against Maryland at home and the outlook for getting to a postseason tournament, which suddenly looks like a possibility. The Husker247 HypeCast returned with Gary Sharp from 1620 the Zone and started with a brief summation of the weird recent history between Nebraska and Minnesota, as the two teams have played some strange and notable games in recent seasons. From there Sharp talked about his expectations for Nebraska football this weekend in a similar kind of game as the one the Huskers lost to Illinois last Saturday. Michael Bruntz discussed the merits of getting Anthony Grant going in the running game and if Alante Brown and Chancellor Brewington are one offs or can use the Illinois performances as a bit of a launching pad for the final month. Defensively Sharp touched on how the Huskers defended against Illinois' Chase Brown and if things would look similar for Minnesota's Mo Ibrahim. Then Bruntz discusses Nebraska's ability to slow down an RPO attack that has befuddled the defense for several seasons. Finally there are oddly specific predictions, featuring several interesting names forecasted to be doing big things, picks to click and finally score predictions. Settle in and enjoy the Husker HypeCast and then tweet at Brian Christopherson asking why he's protesting this episode. -Obviously, the offense will get the ball to more than one person no matter what happens. But as seen with David Bell at Purdue and with Jordan Addison at Pitt (Whipple's previous school), there are offenses that definitely make sure to get the absolute best players the ball -Who is that going to be for Nebraska?
