Things Discussed: We believe MSU is likely planting diseases in Brian's kid's school. Michigan State preview: They can't shoot; they're 354th (I was wrong on the pod) out of 364 teams in 3P%. But caveat: Jase Richardson can shoot and has been playing more, Frankie Fiddler career-wise can shoot, Fears is at 35% and Kohler is at 34%. It's Hollomon and Carr and Akins who give them that profile, but when only one is on the court they're fine. They are physical. Purdue is physical too but MSU is that and DIRTY. MSU vs Purdue: great coaching job. Strategy was switching, throwing guard after guard on Braden Smith, getting the Purdue backcourt trapped down low and running on rebounds. Also got Breslin calls on Trey Kaufman-Renn. Szymon Zapala is the dirtiest player to come through the Big Ten since Brad Davison and whinier than his coach. MSU's process involves getting called (Zapala has 6 fouls/40) but they roll four-deep a the five when you include Kohler. Key: Do not turn the ball over against MSU. They're excellent in transition, in the half-court vs zone they have to take pullup 2s and go for rebounds. Tschetter's rapid elbow: he knew the head was there. By the way: change the wedgie rule. Wedgie should be defense's ball OOB. Sam gonna die on the hill that Bill Laimbeer was a "physical" player. He was dirty. Seth's quick study on teams that get more home calls (based on the idea that it's normal to get about 1 free throw per missed shot at the rim vs top-100 competition, and teams get about 10% more fouls at home): Purdue gets the worst whistle in the league, Michigan is 2nd, MSU gets the best whistle and at home it's off the charts. Does Dusty need to work the refs better? I think he just needs to get to know them better. Michigan strategy vs State: Wolf needs to take advantage of Kohler, Goldin needs to give it back to Zapala. Illinois? They shoot a lot of threes and go for rebounds. Craig's Baseball update: They're very good! 4-0 with an extra innings win vs #2 Virginia and wins vs Rice, Villanova and Stetson in the Puerto Rico Challenge. Jonathan Kim and Mitch Voight are hammering the ball, getting great pitching from Gavin DeVooght, David Lally and Kurt Barr, who've given up zero ER in 17-1/3 innings. Next is TCU, KSU, and Arkansas in Arlington.
In recent episodes of the ESG Insider podcast, we explored the role of carbon markets in reaching climate targets, and how the voluntary market is evolving. In this episode, we're exploring the intersection of climate change and biodiversity through the lens of the voluntary carbon market. Carbon credits come from different types of projects, and we're exploring the role that biodiversity can play in nature-based carbon credits such as those that sequester carbon in trees by planting a new forest or preserving or restoring an existing forest. To understand how the conversation around biodiversity and carbon credits has evolved, we talk with Dr. Spencer Meyer, Chief Ratings Officer at BeZero Carbon, which provides project-level credit risk assessments for voluntary carbon credits. "There is a golden opportunity right now, as we're investing in climate solutions, to be also having a significant uplift for biodiversity around the world," Spencer tells us. We explore the challenges and benefits of including biodiversity in nature-based projects with Jonathan Kim, Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President of Climate Impact at Terraformation, which focuses on developing carbon credits that improve biodiversity by planting native species. Jonathan says that planting trees and other native species can also help ensure a forest remains healthy and continues to generate carbon credits for a long time. "When you use native species, you actually take advantage of thousands of years of co-evolution, all designed to help a forest thrive," Jonathan says. "The forest becomes more resilient against things like pests and extreme weather and starts doing its own natural regeneration." Regular exercise is one of the most effective methods to keep the heart healthy and efficient. In rare cases, however, there are reports of athletes collapsing mid-game due to cardiac arrest. And while exercise is generally also a key part of the rehabilitation process for those who've experienced cardiac events, caution should still be taken. This is where physician input is important, and where testing and regular monitoring can be implemented to reduce the risk of further events. Today, we're joined by experts in the fields of sports cardiology and exercise physiology, as well as an athlete with firsthand experience in the matter, to draw attention to the topic of cardiac health and how it pertains to sports medicine. In this episode, host Myra Cocker, Assistant Professor of Cardiology at Houston Methodist Hospital and Global Director of Clinical Science for Cardiovascular Ultrasound at Siemens Healthineers, welcomes Dr. Jonathan Kim, Associate Professor and Founding Director at Emory University Sports Cardiology and Team Cardiologist for Georgia Tech, the Atlanta Falcons, Hawks, and Braves; as well as Dr. Dominique Hansen, Professor of Rehabilitation and Exercise Physiology in Cardiometabolic Diseases at Universiteit Hasselt in Belgium and Secretary of the European Association of Preventive Cardiology; and retired professional soccer player and cardiology patient Daniel Engelbrecht. What you'll learn in this episode:How cardiac risk can affect older and younger elite athletes differentlyCardiac events can stem from myocarditis, caused by an infectious disease.Red flag symptoms when it comes to cardiac events while exercising, including intense chest pressure or loss of consciousnessThe use of Automated External Defibrillators is a critical first response strategy in the event of cardiac arrest.Implementation of an exercise program can be essential when treating a patient who has experienced, or is at risk for, cardiovascular disease. For patients who have suffered from major cardiac events, their timeline for return to sports or intense physical activity is heavily dependent on a number of individual factors.Connect with Myra CockerLinkedInConnect with Jonathan KimLinkedInConnect with Dominique HansenLinkedInConnect with Daniel EngelbrechtLinkedIn Hosted on Acast. It is officially Episode 12, our Season 1 Finale. What an incredible journey it has been. In this episode, Eileen and Amy discuss some themes they weren't able to cover in Episode 9 that came up in their conversation with Jonathan Kim (they even include a clip they weren't able to include in that week's episode because it would have been way too long). They also get to ask some questions they had wanted to ask each other in previous episodes and they expand on their personal and professional relationship. Their conversation emphasizes the importance of authenticity in dance and the need for dancers to embrace their natural skill sets; discussing the need for individuality in choreography and the importance of allowing dancers to bring their unique artistry to the performance. They explore the importance of collaboration, integration, and empowerment within the dance industry, taking a moment to highlight the various roles that have been compartmentalized and the need for creative alignment and collaborative co-creation. Their conversation also addresses the dehumanization of dancers and the need for equity and value in the industry; emphasizing the importance of creating safe spaces for dancers to advocate for themselves and express their needs. Finally, Eileen and Amy discuss Amy's transition into the role of Artistic Director of TwoPoint4 Dance and the challenges she faced surrounding her edge of growth as well as Eileen's edge of growth in the somatic work she's bringing into the dance world. They share their motivations and how they have changed, focusing more on authenticity and less on external validation; as well as the importance of boundaries and self-acceptance. Be sure to listen to hear what they are leaving behind and what they're taking with them. Thank you for an incredible first season! Part two of our chat with Wil Hunter starts with a listener question on MSU football offensive coordinator Jay Johnson and just how hot his seat should be this season. Did the first win over CMU at Spartan Stadium still leave a lot to be desired, or is the young stable of players like Jaron Glover, Tyrell Henry and even Noah Kim enough to give him a breather? And before ending the show on more Noah Kim and Jonathan Kim talk, we look around the nation to find our favorite overreactions to week one of the college football season from Boulder to Piscataway. We welcome in John and Ben. Ben shares his story about his journey on his road to hope. We talk about not having a direction. We dive into what a day in the life was like for Ben while he was on active duty. Finaly we mention a new pull up challenge from our friend Jonathan Kim.
John is joined by biostats grad student Jonathan Kim for a conversation about rent control. Jonathan's claim to fame is that he spent 2022 serving on two very high profile volunteer work groups for the City of Minneapolis: one to come up with a recommendation on rent stabilization policy and the other on citywide redistricting. We talk about what swayed him towards the more aggressive version of rent control policy, some of his potential concerns, and his assessment of how effectively the work group operated. On redistricting, Jonathan explains why the Cedar-Isles-Dean neighborhood is probably out to get him. He also describes his work group volunteerism as a hobby, a relaxing break from statistics. John argues that's a "sick, sad" way to spend your free time. For a more thorough discussion of the basic policy considerations of rent control, listen to our December episode with Jennifer Arnold. In this episode of the Female Athlete Podcast, I speak to sports cardiologist Dr Jonathan Kim. We start off exploring the new field of sports cardiology, and how it's evolved recently with rising awareness of heart conditions in athletes. Exercise results in adaptations to the heart that are normally beneficial, such as lower resting heart rates and increased cardiac muscle strength, otherwise known as “athlete's heart”, however, as Dr Kim explains, some changes in the heart can pose risks and indicate underlying problems. We discuss cardiac fatigue following strenuous events like a marathon, underlying the importance of taking enough rest to fully recover. It's not just older individuals at risk of heart problems, in fact, even the youngest and fittest athletes can be at risk. Dr Kim outlines causes of heart conditions independent of age and fitness related to genetic and inherited pathways: knowing your family history is the best prevention tool. Cardiac issues can also be acquired and athletes aren't immune! While exercise certainly is medicine, it is not a cure-all or vaccine against disease! This episode covers some of the warning signs of cardiac illness, many of which overlap with the symptoms of REDS: exercise intolerance, increased RPE, decreased performance and motivation, and increased fatigue. Chest pain is not always present! Working with a team of professionals -cardiologists, dietitians and psychologists- is important in understanding the cause of symptoms: REDS, a heart condition, and/or something else. Other more specific signs requiring medical attention include unexplained breathlessness, chest tightness when warming up (even if it goes away during exercise), and lightheadedness/ fainting. We touch on returning to exercise post Covid-19 for both asymptomatic and symptomatic cases, and Dr Kim provides reassurance and comfort debunking the extremely conservative advice that was initially circulating. By resting until asymptomatic for 3 days, before gradually progressing training load, the majority of people can return to their usual activity levels in just a few weeks (disclaimer: every case is different of course). Now that you’ve made it through your Netflix queue, you might be wondering when sports are coming back. After sports leagues postponed their seasons back in March, some - like the National Women’s Soccer League - are stepping back onto the field for the first time. We’ll break down the efforts and challenges in keeping players safe. And talk to one league that’s knocking it out of the park: the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (aka: roller derby.) Also, in case you missed it: the Chinese government has taken its boldest step yet in eliminating freedoms of Hong Kong residents. We’ll tell you how this latest move by China has a global impact. And finally, we’re talking about getting into 'good trouble.' As in the new documentary "John Lewis: Good Trouble." The film’s producer Erika Alexander shared how lessons from Lewis’s life fighting for social justice starting in the 1960s are just as relevant to social movements today. #009: I’m really pumped for this episode and super happy to have none other but Johnny FD on the show! If you don’t know, Johnny FD is one of the OG Digital Nomads who first blogged about his success traveling the world while selling stuff on the Internets. If you want to know his experiences and expertise in business, entrepreneurship, and having that financial/location independent lifestyle, it’s all on his blog! There’s a treasure trove of awesome stories and wisdom there on JohnnyFD.com. For this episode, we talk about the Asian male struggle, how hard it is to grow up in say America as an Asian minority, about having the right attitude to overcome our past victimhood mentality, taking practical steps to become better versions of ourselves, and becoming more comfortable in our own skin. We also talk about transcendence, bringing all the good things with you, leaving the bad stuff behind, and rising above our circumstances or situation by being the most we can be. Accepting all experiences in our past, good or bad, and becoming happy with ourselves. One of the biggest takeaways: "If you really truly want to make a difference, you have two ways: You can try to change other people, the world, the perception of Asian-Americans, or Asians, or whatever it is out there. OR: You can change yourself to be the best version of yourself and transcend all that.” "If you become the best version of YOU, the best 5’4” Jonathan Kim, the best 5’1” Stella, the best version of whoever you are, you become the most authentic genuine version of yourself, you get yourself in decent shape, you don’t have to be insane like the Rock, but just the best version of yourself, whatever that is -- that is more than good enough. People will see that, people will accept that, gravitate towards it. If they don’t, they’re not worth your time.” And it’s all about consistency! Just whatever it is what you wanna do, keep at it. No matter how many times I fall off this horse, and sometimes I fall harrdddd, I’ve set it in my mind that I’m getting back on this horse and I’mma ride harrddddd, till I can’t no more. I know this is true because while I’m far from perfect, I have been striving to improve myself in every important facet of my life for years. I am an example of this transformation, of this transcendence. Yo, if a BUM like me can do this, YOU can too. People DO see me, people do accept me for who I am, people gravitate towards me. It gets better and better as I become better and better. I want that for all of you, too. It’s totally mind-blowing how Johnny tells his story of being a lost, low-confidence loner to trailblazing into a GAWD of online business and travel, literally bringing entire communities of people to come hang out with him wherever he is in the world. More now than ever, with the power of the Internet, you can connect with likeminded people! You can find resources, books, literature, mentors, and communities of people out there to improve yourself. If you wanna do that, just hit me up on Instagram @MAIMTIME or email me, inquiry@maimtime.com. I’m really just a normal dude figuring it out as I go along, growing in his journey to realize his max potential, and I want you to become part of this conversation! 5 years ago, Jonathan Kim started Appcues to help product and growth teams create more relevant onboarding flows. Today, Appcues serves over 1000 customers and has grown to nearly 70 employees. Jonathan’s idea all started at the end of his career at Hubspot, as he was having a conversation with his boss, the future founder of Drift, David Cancel. In his words: “David Cancel comes over to my desk and he's like, ‘Hey man, like I've been seeing you and you're either at 110% and you're super passionate about something, or you're just not passionate at all. We caught up a little later and you know I started talking about this thing. I was like, oh man, how about we crack this huge problem around user onboarding — and check out this landing page I built and it could be like a real product.”And he said, "The way you light up about that, ‘that's what you're really passionate about.’” He was like, "You should go do that." And I said, “Okay I guess you're right. I just kinda quit on the spot because I was so passionate about the problem.”In this episode you’ll learn:0:00 Introduction 1:28 What exactly is Appcues? La Jolla Community Church held its Annual Congregational Meeting right before the recording of this service. This is a recording of the 10:45 am service on Sunday, May 19, 2019. The Worship Band led by Jonathan Kim opened worship with songs, "Your Love Awakens Me" and "Whole Heart (Good Intentions)." Those who attended the service were encouraged to meet those around them and make introductions. Announcements were given by LJCC's Community Life Director (Ian O'Meara). Summer Camp is around the corner for Junior High and High School students and now is the time to submit a deposit to Ryan Silvia so you can secure a spot for your student. Junior High and High School students leave for camp the same week (June 16-22, 2019). Serving needs are abundant in Children's Ministry and Youth Ministry. Most of the openings to help only require an hour a month - things like setting up, tearing down, putting away resources, following a pre-planned curriculum that leads kids through a fun activity, clicking a powerpoint presentation to rotate slides and more. There are needs for everybody. Sign up by emailing Ryana@LJCC.org for Children's Ministry needs or Ryan@LJCC.org for needs in the Youth Ministry. Mark Paulson of LJCC's Board of Trustees - gives the Prayers of the People. Pastor Steve Murray then continues the sermon series, "Rooted in Christ" with a sermon on "Why the Church matters and why it should matter to us." Following the sermon, we have the offering, and those who feel called to give watching this replay can give a one-time gift at https://ljcc.org/give. Jonathan Kim then leads us back into a time of worship through song as the band sings "In Christ Alone." Pastor Steve Murray gives the Benediction of the morning.

This may sound strange, but more often than not, Appcues' biggest competition is actually nothing. Most companies don't have an intentional onboarding experience; users are just dropped into a dashboard full of zeros. Their Co-founder & CEO, Jonathan Kim, explains how to master the art of a meaningful onboarding experience through personalization and humanization. Listen to learn about their definition of product led growth, where they've seen sales add the most value and what he sees for the future of UX. You'll also find out how to maximize impact if you're designing onboarding for the first time.
La Jolla Community Church continues the worship series, "Running Life's Rapids" with a sermon by Pastor Steve Murray on "1 Peter 2: Hold onto your oar." We begin worship with songs, "Whole Heart" and "My All in All." Dominic Nuncio (LJCC's Executive Pastor of Ministries / Worship Band leader) was joined by Jonathan Kim on Bass, Scott Lee on Drums, Tim Godwin on Electric Guitar, Christopher Smith on Piano. Ian O'Meara gives the morning announcements and invites Pastor Steve Murray up to give the sermon. Following the sermon Ian O'Meara encourages people to sign up for the Spring Women's Retreat and to attend Rooted in Prayer following the second service. The worship band then sings, "The Stand" and "How Great Thou Art." Pastor Steve Murray gives the Benediction of the morning as people leave worship.

On this week's episode of The SaaS Revolution Show, I talk with Jonathan Kim, CEO and Founder of Appcues about the user onboarding that acquires, wins and retains customers. While working as a front-end engineer at HubSpot, Jonathan got increasingly frustrated by the fact that B2B companies didn't have the sort of seamless self-service onboarding that the likes of Facebook or Twitter had. Whether it was salespeople, account managers or customer success reps, they all did the same thing day in and day out manually onboarding users. Before long Jonathan decided to leave HubSpot and pursue finding a solution on his own, fulfilling his dream to be an entrepreneur. That was five years ago and Appcues was born. Today, the company based out of Boston has 55 employees and has just raised a Series A funding. Listen on to hear: Why user onboarding is important How to go about creating great user onboarding What are the effects of good user onboarding Appcues Director of Marketing, Ty Magnin will be joining us on the SaaStock 18 growth stage where he will talk about product-led growth. For the three days of the conference, he will be joined by speakers such as Morten Primdahl, Co-founder, Zendesk; Heather Zynczak, CMO, Pluralsight, Corey Thomas, CEO Rapid7 and many more. Jonathan Kim has a fascinating background intersecting various business verticals such as AI, Venture Capital and mobile with an impressive career holding down executive positions at Samsung, JPL, Crosslink Capital and Qualcomm. During his time at JPL, Jonathan saw an opportunity for AI and in an early learning environment. He realized that even though the tools we are using today in the classroom have changed, the fundamentals behind how we teach kids haven’t. According to Jonathan, we are living in a post AI world and he wanted to build something that would help both parents as well as kids. He asked himself 2 main questions: What are we teaching kids today and how do we teach them? While much of the focus of AI today revolves around the frightening prospect of computers taking our jobs and being something to fear, he wanted to make sure AI is leveraged as tech tool that can better help parents become involved in their child's’ education.

Startup Boston Podcast: Entrepreneurs | Investors | Influencers | Founders
Jonathan Kim took an interesting path to becoming the founder of a tech company. A journalism major at BU, Jonathan taught himself how to code before becoming a software engineer at HubSpot. It was there that he identified the problem companies face with onboarding users to platforms. Instead of wanting to solve this problem with people, he wanted to solve it with product. To solve this he started Appcues, a user onboaring company for software companies. In this episode, Jonathan shares amongst other things: What most companies get wrong about user onboarding When companies should start automating user onboarding What frustrates users the most How to use UX to gain the user’s trust Why he wouldn’t focus on finding a co-founder if starting over Why Appcues engineers also handle customer support Links from this episode: David Cancel Fasten Wistia Litmus Firebase Keen IO Price Intelligently Buffer’s transparency dashboard Hojoko The Advantage Lean In If you liked this episode: Follow the podcast on Twitter Subscribe on iTunes or your podcast app and write a review Get in touch with feedback, ideas, or to say hi: nic {AT} startupbostonpodcast [DOT] com Music by: Broke For Free

Music: Anamanaguchi. I didn't read the graphic novel, nor did I ever care to. As fun and interesting as it might be, I was more interested in the game for a couple of reasons. Anamanaguchi I heard was going to be doing the whole soundtrack to the game. They are an 8-bit chiptune punk rock band that I had once heard. I really enjoy their music so I was very excited about this. The other super attractive thing about this game is the main artist. His name is Robert Paulson... no I mean, his name is Paul Robertson. His work is familiar to me because of one really cool video. Here it is: Big thanks to Edward Fonseca for the recommendation.
