Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. The Mets had two rainouts since we last podcasted, but there is still a fair amount to talk about. Topics discussed include the frustrating demotion of Sean Reid-Foley, the return of Pete Alonso, and the (seemingly) upcoming return of Luis Guillorme. We close out with Chris asking Brian about a hypothetical situation from last night’s Mets/Padres game. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by discussing the ReplaceMets who have done an admirable job filling in while the injuries piled up. We are also impressed by the pitching and defense that has kept this team in ballgames despite the lack of offense. Next, we talk about Mickey Callaway finally being out of a job and the latest incident of domestic violence committed by a baseball player. Finally, we talk about athletes and mental health in light of Naomi Osaka having to withdraw from the French Open. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by discussing all of the highs and lows of the month of May for the Mets—the seven-game winning streak, the Patrick Mazeika magic, the terrible series in St. Petersburg and the bullpen breakdown, and then the rash of injuries. But somehow the Mets are still finding ways to win, as they have done the past two days, thanks to the self-proclaimed “bench mob.” And they are still in first place in the NL East. The long list of injuries is not just a Mets problem, however. In the second half of the show this week, we talk about how injuries are up all across the league, particularly soft tissue injuries. We also talk about how Kevin Pillar’s gruesome injury is indicative of a baseball-wide issue—pitchers throwing harder and harder with less and less control. We also discuss Tony La Russa being the absolute worst and remind our listeners that Mickey Callaway still has a job. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue in Conversation, a podcast from Amazin’ Avenue where we invite interesting people on the show to talk about themselves, the Mets, and more. Brian Baker only became a Met fan when he moved to New Jersey in the mid-2010s, but he has made up for lost time. If you’re a fan of punk rock, you know Brian as the founding bassist of Minor Threat, founder/guitarist/songwriter of Dag Nasty, the guitarist in Bad Religion since the mid-90s, and, most recently, as the guitarist in both Fake Names and Beach Rats. Hosts Chris and Brian geek out for 40 minutes or so with Brian about the time he played with Carlos Santana as a tween, this most likable of Mets teams, and much, much more. Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. The Mets have finished a seven game road trip, coming back to Queens after playing 4-3 on the road. That happened despite a rash of injuries, the bats still not exactly waking up, the firing of their hitting coaches, and games against the two current division leaders in the East and Central. Brian and Chris discuss these topics, as well as bizarre fan deductions, on the show this week. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by discussing the past couple of weeks of Mets baseball, which have been quite the rollercoaster between the slumbering Mets offense revived by Donnie Stevenson, the firing of Chili Davis, deGrom’s lat issue (he should be fine), and a benches-clearing incident over the weekend. Next, we talk about how pervasive poor umpiring has been across baseball this year. Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. Last week, Brian and Chris lamented the cold bats, and this week, they’ve frozen over. As frustrating as that is, they don’t think it is time to panic yet, citing the usual reasons (weird schedule, usual April shenanigans, past performance). They also debate the fifth starter situation and celebrate the surprisingly effective bullpen. Then, Brian chats with John Stolnis of the Good Phight (@JohnStolnis) to discuss the upcoming series with the Phillies. Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. Brian and Chris are flummoxed by the Mets, as they aren’t hitting en masse, but they are still in first place, and the pitching has been pretty good (well, at least it was until Wednesday night in Chicago). We know we need to be patient, but this has been such a weird last year and change, it’s tough to remember what the ups and downs of a regular season feel like in the moment. But, Chris shouts out Miguel Castro, Brian praises Trevor May, and both are loving the Stro Show. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we have a conversation with fellow Amazin’ Avenue writer, Grace Carbone. We had planned for this to be a fun episode about films, but of course we had to begin the show by discussing the latest reporting in The Athletic about the Mets’ toxic culture and the years-long poor treatment of women by the front office. Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue in Conversation, a podcast from Amazin’ Avenue where we invite interesting people on the show to talk about themselves, the Mets, and more. The Mets, Citi, and No Kid Hungry have been working together on the Citi Community Home Runs Program, where every home run hit at Citi Field sees Citi donate $2,000 to No Kid Hungry, an organization that fights food insecurity in New York and beyond. Over $1 million has been donated by Citi thus far, capped off by a Pete Alonso home run in the final game of the 2020. To talk about this program, we have Head of Citi Retail Services David Chubak, as well as the first Mets ambassador for the program Curtis Granderson, as well as their current ambassador, Pete Alonso. We talk about the program, Instagram, guitars, salmon, and lots, lots more. Due to COVID-19, an estimated 1 in 4 children face hunger today. In New York City, that number could rise to 1 in 3 children. Citi will be donating $2,000 for every Mets home run hit at Citi Field during the 2021 season. Also new in 2021 is the CCHR Fan of the Game Sweepstakes. Fans nationwide can sign up at SNY.tv/CHR through 9/20/21 for a chance to have their name on a Mets home broadcast on SNY, win autographed Mets merchandise and automatically enter to win a virtual meet & greet with Pete Alonso. Fans who donate $5 or more to No Kid Hungry will receive 25 extra entries for the season-long sweepstakes, where one new fan will be selected per home SNY broadcast. Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue in Conversation, a podcast from Amazin’ Avenue where we invite interesting people on the show to talk about themselves, the Mets, and more. Chris Forsyth is a guitarist and songwriter who releases music as a solo artist and also as the leader of the Solar Motel Band. He compares his music to that of the late, great John Fahey, but instead of synthesizing the blues down to its most prime elements, Chris does that with rock and roll. Chris’s songs find room for improvisation without sacrificing melody. He’s also a huge Mets fan, and we talk about both of those parts of his life on today’s episode. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, Mets baseball is back! And the Mets’ (delayed) Opening Day game was every bit Mets baseball. We talk about that and the Francisco Lindor extension and how happy we are that he is a Met for the next decade. We then discuss sentiments of vaccine hesitancy expressed by Mets players. Next, we talk about MLB’s decision to move the All-Star Game out of Atlanta, shouting out Demetrius Bell’s article over at Talking Chop on the matter. Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. As happens with alarming frequency, Chris and Brian recorded this episode less than an hour before the Mets and Francisco Lindor agreed to the 10 year, $341 million extension. So, with that said, please ignore about half of their gripes expressed therein. Aside from the Lindor stuff instantly rendered moot, Brian and Chris discuss their overall impressions for the season, highlight some players they’re excited about, and, again, just couldn’t have timed this worse with Lindor. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by discussing the latest on the Lindor extension talks, which are still not resolved, despite now being less than 48 hours away from Opening Day. We hoped we would get to break news live on the podcast as we recorded Tuesday night, but alas, it did not happen. But we did get to discuss our general excitement about Opening Day and the fact that the Mets promoted a woman to be Head Team Physician. We also talked about reporting from The Athletic that revealed that the Mets have hired a law firm to review their workplace culture. While it is good they are doing something, we question whether a law firm is the right choice for this task. In the same article it is reported that MLB’s investigation of Mickey Callaway—who still has a job—will not be complete by Opening Day. In our baseball segment, we discussed the dubious framing of Odubel Herrera’s status with the Phillies as a labor issue, as well as actual labor issues, such as the Cubs lowballing their franchise player. To inject some levity into the show in light of Steve Cohen’s announcement that the black jerseys are coming back, we had a hearty debate about whether the black jerseys are good or bad; our hosts are evenly divided on this issue. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. Following that, the team takes a look at the Mets as currently composed and discuss the final few roster spots that are available and the best fits for filling them. Next, we discuss the latest on the Francisco Lindor and Michael Conforto extension talks. Friend of the pod and co-host of the Metrospectives podcast Ted Berg joins Brian and Chris for the show today, bringing wit, wisdom, and Cole Hamels goofs to the pod. Next, Jacob deGrom’s dominant spring has the hosts marveling at what is fast becoming a Hall of Fame career path for Jake. This week, we welcome Deesha Thosar from the Daily News to discuss covering the Mets and her observations from spring training. We also had to talk about the tumultuous offseason including the firing of Jared Porter and Sandy Alderson’s handling of the situation. You should definitely read Deesha’s piece she wrote the night the Porter news broke to get her perspective of what it is like to be a woman working in the baseball industry. We turned to some lighter subjects including her viral tweet of the team celebrating the 27 outs drill, her favorite story of the time the team plane was delayed because of Dom Smith, and the article she wrote after Mickey Callaway threatened a reporter. Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. Right before recording, the news broke that Carlos Carrasco’s elbow was barking a bit, and the Panic City Digest went back into production. Brian and Chris try not to subscribe right away, but are a little concerned about the bullpen. They also discuss the José Martinez injury and the reassignment of Trevor Hildenberger in camp. Then, Chris and Brian attempt to predict the 26-man Opening Day roster. While most of the offensive positions are pretty well set, there are a fair amount of pitching questions. With the steep wager of one draft beer, who will get closer to the actual roster with their guesses and taste victory when the world opens up? Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by discussing the Taijuan Walker signing, José Martínez’s unfortunate knee injury, and the Mets’ resulting interest in third baseman Maikel Franco to provide righty pop off the bench. We also discuss spring training storylines, with the bullpen and defense being areas of concern. We conclude our Mets segment by expressing our excitement about the impending extension talks between the Mets and Francisco Lindor this week. In our baseball segment this week, we discussed former Seattle Mariners president Kevin Mather’s chat with the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club, which embodied a lot of the things wrong with the game today—racism, collusion, service time manipulation, and other general rich guy nonsense. These things are not exclusive to Mather or the Mariners, but Mather happened to say them all out loud on video for everyone, including his own players, to hear. We also remind our listeners that, as of today, Mickey Callaway still has a job. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we welcome author Andrea Williams to the show to discuss her book Baseball’s Leading Lady: Effa Manley and the Rise and Fall of the Negro Leagues. We talk with her about the history of the Negro Leagues, their recent “elevation” to major league status, and how history has often overlooked Black pioneers of the sport. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! And you can find us on the Stitcher app, Spotify, or listen wherever you get podcasts. You can follow A Pod of Their Own on Twitter (@apodoftheirown) and you can also follow all of our co-hosts on Twitter: Allison McCague (@PetitePhD), Maggie Wiggin (@maggie162), Linda Surovich (@LindaSurovich), and Kellyanne Healey (@ellarebee), as well as our guest Andrea Williams (@AndreaWillWrite).
