As August recess comes to an end, Congress will be back to work on the two major legislative packages that NAHU has discussed for the past few months – the $1 trillion bipartisan INVEST in America Act, and Democrats' $3.5 trillion dollar reconciliation package. On the July 30 edition of the podcast, we discussed the status of these packages prior to August recess. On this week's episode of the Healthcare Happy Hour, NAHU's vice presidents of congressional affairs, Chris Hartmann and John Greene, return to discuss what the timeline looks like for passage of these bills and what may be encompassed in the reconciliation package – including potentially lowering the Medicare eligibility age.

Season 4 of the Laura and Benny Podcast. The fourth wave is here and COVID wedding restriction are saying the long goodbye. Benny winds Laura up per norm. June was great for weddings but Laura is well and truly done with restrictions (protective measures). Small Weddings are great but timing constraints are a hassle currently. The receiving line is back, hugging n kiss'n. Vaccination buzz is great for the day. Warning is given that the target or government plan for months ahead are not for definite. Guests are very understanding if you have to dis-invite them. As August looks set for 100 guests, check with your venue regarding the numbers and social distancing/table plan rules. From what Laura and Benny are seeing, venues dictate the rules, there is no consensus. Ceremony music is permitted, this was clarified officially. Music ban is all about volume and dancing. Laura gives mask advice for ceremonies and venues. Curfew clarity too. Music continues to be frustrate but the outlook is good reading between the lines. For the 100 guests at least. September and October nerves are discussed as the fourth wave threatens to hinder weddings in Autumn. Predictions are made for Christmas and 2022. Benny is looking forward to retiring from Podcasting as Laura cannot wait to have wedding suppliers back on the show. Be careful of pre-wedding meet ups, keep your contacts low and clean! Laura and Benny Photography are Irish wedding photographers.

As August came to an end, MEKHAELA wrote an entry as though SHE was just speaking to MILES. As if he was just in front of HER, but he wasn't. SHE was just talking to a wall, pretending it was him. As August drew to a close, the White House’s coronavirus task force coordinator, Dr. Deborah Birx, visited Minnesota and met with both state and tribal officials.
As August begins to creep into September, families everywhere are preparing for winter by gathering together to partake in a much-loved Italian American tradition… gather the whole famiglia as we take your through the history and how-tos of the art of tomato jarring! This New World fruit has become the staple of Italian and Italian American cuisine and now with the tomato harvest happening, our team decided to celebrate “la pummarola” by sharing our stories, strategies and science about this beloved tradition. We explore the history of the tomato, from its origins in the Andes mountains to its arrival in Europe, why Europeans and Colonial Americans originally believed it to be a poisonous plant, and how it beat this unfortunate reputation to become the cornerstone of Italian cuisine! We’ll then examine the various jarring traditions and methods, whether adding sugar to tomatoes is an honored tradition or a culinary sin, and how we might all be making tomato paste if Napoleon had never invaded Russia. We’ll also share our own family jarring stories and secrets, and perhaps stumble onto the perfect event to bring everyone back together once social distancing is a thing of the past! Call it pummarola or pomodoro… "to-may-to" or "tom-ah-to"… or whichever name you prefer, this humble fruit has defined much of our Italian American culture, and this week’s episode will take you deeper than you’ve ever imagined in getting to know the blessing that is the tomato!
As August slides into September, the absence of a national strategy on school reopening has left thousands of families to struggle alone with the decision about whether and how to send their kids back to school. In every state, school districts are fending for themselves to develop a plan that balances sometimes conflicting risks to public health, economic security, and emotional wellbeing. Here to elucidate the challenges and considerations demanded of such a decision is Richard Barth, CEO of the KIPP Foundation, the largest network of public charter schools in the country. Founded in 1994, KIPP today serves over 100,000 predominantly underprivileged students across 255 schools, 88% of whom qualify for federal free or reduced-price lunch; 95%, from Black or Latinx families. When COVID-19 hit, the KIPP Foundation lept into action: reaching out to its 28,000 alumni, enrolling teachers in digital learning courses, launching a virtual mental health program, standing up local food banks, and providing vital human services in students' communities. Every community presented unique challenges, yet what distinguished KIPP's response was its commitment to engaging deeply with the families that it serves and to ensuring that both its messaging and its policies were community driven. If you're interested in learning how a nationwide K-12 public school network has mobilized to respond to COVID-19; how it’s deciding which of its schools should and should not open; why it has prioritized investments in community resilience; and how racial and socioeconomic inequities have looked in practice for students and families, this episode is for you. And if you enjoy it, follow it up in two weeks, with our episode on colleges and universities. Until then, learn more about KIPP here. See the state-by-state progress on school reopenings here. And learn more about Civic Rx here.
As August comes to an end, and summer closes in the Northern Hemisphere we lament the fact that we still can't head out to the cinema for the latest blockbuster releases, so once again we look back at cinema of a time passed. This time it's the time of happy pants, bucket hats and wallet chains... the 1990s. We go over what made money, what didn't, and what we really enjoyed either way. ** Apologies for the sound quality on Mitch's mic for the first 2 minutes, but it does get better. Unfortunately the sausage fest of films we discuss really doesn't **
As August comes to a close, let's talk about the 3 steps to moving a money set point. No matter where that set point is, you can move up!

As August rolls around, wring the most out of this excellent, in no way out of the ordinary summer with a trip to Daddy Day Camp! It features such fun activities as: a bus full of kids running into a tree, a very greasy rock climbing wall, and of course, no returning actors from the first movie!! Of course, we barely talk about any of that stuff, but you know the drill at this point.
On this episode of Battles & Banter, Avery once again is solo for his third installment of the Korean War series. Currently in its 70th Anniversary, the Korean War was only a few weeks old by this point in July of 1950. Things were not going well for United Nations forces on the ground who were fighting against the North Korean People's Army. For the American units arriving on the Korean Peninsula, they were unprepared, poorly trained and ill-equipped for what awaited them. As August loomed closer, the American & South Korean forces had to fight more delaying actions to buy time for a massive defensive line to be set up in the valleys and mountains around the southeastern port city of Pusan (present-day Busan). Avery briefly describes the events that led to the climactic battle at the Pusan Perimeter, and points out some of the more overlooked aspects of that dark summer month of July 1950. Enjoy!

As August camp wraps up and the Tigers turn their attention towards the 2019 opener next Thursday against Georgia Tech the script has been flipped from last year as Brent Venables' defense carries the most question marks heading into the season as Clemson looks to defend its 2018 National Championship. In this ep we attempt to fill in the blanks on defense while acknowledging that this unit has a long way to go to match the success of 2015-18 squads and caution that things may not be easy in the early going (2:08). But the Tigers will also field what may be the most potent offense in college football, led by QB Trevor Lawrence who, as dominating as he was in 2018, still has room to improve on his freshman campaign (23:24). He will be accompanied by what looks to be the most talented WR group the Tigers have ever fielded and one that, in our opinion, may included 3 of the top 5 WRs in the history of Clemson football when all is said and done (34:03). We conclude by discussing the historically weak schedule this talented group will face and why Clemson fans shouldn't pay mind to the haters out there trying to delegitimize the team's success (46:02). I mean, it's not like they were exactly squeaking by at the end last year...Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
As August is upon us now, lets start to prepare for harvest season. Spring was a time we SHOULD have planted roots. Winter was a time we should have been sowing seeds. Karma is a term we use to define people getting what they deserve. It is not always a bad thing. What did you sow into this year? If it was negativity, lies and deceit...then expect your karma to be just that. If you sowed forgiveness, grace and mercy...expect that too.
It's our season finale! And we wrap up our summer with great tapes and a great guest. We chat with local Washingtonian Jeff Glinski, lamenting the downfall of video stores and reminiscing on our first R rated sleep-over movies. What was yours? Jeff then turns the tables on us, lobbing a grilling question our way. As August hits, and our season ends, we hope that all of you keep questing, and stay tuned for next fall! If you want to keep up with us during our break, come to Vermillion Art Gallery and Bar in Seattle, 1st Tuesday of every month, for TapeGod Tuesday! A local tape swap/vintage market in the middle of Capitol Hill. Bring some tapes to sling and we hope to see you there. Keep On Questing!
Girl Boner – A Story of EmpowermentMy guest is August McLaughlin. She is a celebrated health and sexuality writer, the creator of Girl Boner, wrote a book with the same name, and is a fellow podcaster! As she states during the talk, her experience with sexual education was very lacking and lopsided. From an early age, she was prepared for the terrifying world of cramps and bleeding without mention of the empowering sexual satisfaction that women can experience. This would lead to her investigating sex on her own terms, and in turn, she has empowered countless women through her work. She talks about how working in the modeling industry-led an eating disorder, how she discovered masturbation, the way toward empowerment, and much more!Connection Between her Sexual Shame and Eventual HealingAugust says that it’s hard to separate how we feel about our bodies and our emotional selves. If we don’t really talk about our genitalia and sex is considered taboo, we aren’t able to awaken the empowerment within ourselves. As August went through her eating disorder while she was doing modeling work, she also realized that an underlying cause for her not being sexually empowered was the sexual shame she carried around with her. She says that therapy certainly helped, but she was still not addressing the root of her problem. She says that a turning point in her transformation was that she started getting uncharacteristically angry. She would get sad, frustrated, and angry with herself. She realized that, as a woman, she was taught not to access her sexuality. August also realized that she didn’t know much about her own anatomy. She said she was having pleasurable sex at this point, but it became something else entirely when she connected with her body and felt empowered.Masturbation as a Turning PointAugust said that for the majority of her life, she had been more inclined to participate in intercourse than outercourse. She said that external stimulation had never really done anything for her, and besides, there had always been a layer of shame surrounding the act itself. It wasn’t until she revisited masturbation with a new perspective that it eventually opened up her eyes to more empowerment. She says that she switched careers. August was a full-time writer, she was in a monogamous relationship, and one day while her partner was traveling work, she was confronted with a desire for sex and no outlet for it. That was when she tried masturbation.August was 30 years old at this point. On the night she discovered the empowerment of masturbation, she was so excited she called her partner and told him that she had achieved an orgasm on her own! For more on this, listen to August tell the story in her own words. The “Girl Boner” Origin and MissionAfter the orgasm that changed her life, she applied for the trademark on the term ‘girl boner’. The term itself has multiple meanings for August. It’s a humorous term she used in grade school, it stands for sexual potency and empowerment, and it’s one of those titles that gets your attention right away. How Journaling has Helped AugustWhile she was freewriting and journaling, a lot was coming out about her acting career and her sexual insecurities. She thinks it’s a very powerful tool for unearthing inner sexual desires and to help with fostering curiosity. It also helps you to approach a difficult or awkward sexual subject and get closer to it in a much more comfortable way.Key Links for August McLaughlinAffiliate link for Her book: Girl Boner – https://amzn.to/2Run62dWebsite: https://augustmclaughlin.com/Podcast: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/gvb-radio/girl-boner-radio-with-august-mclaughlinGirl Boner Journal: https://www.amazon.com/Girl-Boner-Journal-Guided-Awareness/dp/1948705214More info:Book and New Course – https://sexwithoutstress.comWeb – https://www.bettersexpodcast.com/Sex Health Quiz – http://sexhealthquiz.com/If you’re enjoying the podcast and want to be a part of making sure it continues in the future, consider being a patron. As August comes to an end, many families are getting their kids ready to go back to school! Are you one of these families? This week, Jennifer and Dan talk a bit about school traditions and even mention some US and UK differences. We used a lot of verb + preposition + gerund combinations in our natural conversation, and this is why we wanted to highlight this grammar point in our language focus. As members, your goal this week is to better understand this grammar point and build your speaking and writing confidence by completing the tasks using “back to school” related vocabulary. You also get 5 extra verb + preposition combinations to review. :)

Good afternoon. This is James Cordier of OptionSellers.com with a market update for August 4th. Recently, my wife and I were driving through Tampa and we were driving past the Tampa Port Authority. Christa says to me, “Look at all the cars.” I looked to my left and I saw the largest car lot of my life. All cars with the exact same emblem on the front, the only difference was the colors of the car. They were sitting looking for a home. It looked like a sea of automobiles waiting for the car dealer to possibly call them and say that they needed them. 30 days later, those cars are still there. I noticed that again today… Interesting. Over the past week, automobile sales came out approximately 15% below what they were in this same period last year. Automobile inventories were approximately 40% higher than where they’re supposed to be during a healthy U.S. economy. Practically every barometer of the U.S. economy right now is showing either signs of stagnation or great weakness. It’s quite interesting… you have the U.S. dollar falling to a near 2-year low based on these facts, and yet the stock market continues to climb, making a new record-high practically every other day. So what gives? It’s really hard to tell. Needless to say, interest rates in the United States were supposed to climb 3 or 4 times this year. It looks like they only maybe raised once or twice, and I guess that is all the ammunition the computers need to keep pushing the stock market higher. Eventually, the U.S. economy is going to have to show some growth for the stock market to continue to climb. We’ll have to wait and see exactly when that happens. Of course, some very special months of September and October are coming up, and maybe they’ll have something to say about it. We certainly are rooting on the stock market, for any of our clients that do have equity holdings. We’re certainly not rooting against it, but by no means would we want to necessarily be pushing stock markets right now. It’s certainly at an extremely high level, practically new highs every day, and yet the U.S. economy continues to show signs of slowing, if not cracking, definitely making for an interesting scenario. I was speaking to one of my clients recently in Florida. She mentioned that she is a closet bear in the stock market. As a matter of fact, a lot of her friends that do quite well for themselves are stock market bears, as well, she went on to say. I kind of like that phrase, and I asked her if I could possibly borrow that from her, and I just did. Opportunities in commodities right now, we think, are extremely high, with a lot of uncertainty and a lot of investors trying to seek the ability to move their investments around and not be all allocated in just one implementation. Soon enough, the Committee on Postponed Parts will have their hands full trying to resolve everything that has been postponed. In the meanwhile, the Convention seems to, for the first time, consider why a new form of Government is needed, beyond the Randolph outline of so many weeks ago. The principles that underlie the nation are Life, Liberty, and Property. There is a general realization that a stronger central government is the best guarantee of those. watching what is happening in Rhode Island has convinced them that left to themselves, the States will not provide those protections.
