After four years of non-stop touring, Gracie Abrams didn't expect that new music would come to her so quickly, but she is coming back with the new album Daughter From Hell, out July 17, and is Vogue's June cover star. “You don't realize how your nervous system is kind of like running until you stop,” says Abrams as she discusses her latest album and cover shoot with Senior Features Editor Marley Marius and Global Director of Social Media Samantha Sussman on Vogue's The Run Through Podcast.“So, I had no plans in this case to jump in as quickly as we ended up doing it. But my collaborator, producer, and dear friend Aaron Dessner, who I've worked with for six years now… he has superpowers,' says Abrams. “And whenever we're in the same room, even if I do feel like silent to my core, whenever he starts playing something, it sparks my imagination.” While working on the album at Electric Lady Studios in New York, Abrams says the first single ‘Hit the Wall' came to her through intervention from a spirit. “I was a little bit late to the studio, which I'm very prompt and I was kind of having, just like an emotionally confused morning” says Abrams. “Do you know when you sometimes wake up and you feel as if you're being haunted by a spirit? Or like a relative who's no longer [alive] … Do you ever feel the energy as if someone's got their hands on your shoulders? Do you ever feel like you're wearing a little cape on your shoulders?” asks Abrams. “I kind of just felt like weighed down when I was walking to the studio and I started tearing up. And it was at this period where I wasn't crying very much. And I was like, ‘Something's blocking me, like what is going on?'” Abrams says once she heard a loop of what would later become Hit the Wall, all the pieces started coming together. “I very quickly felt like the sound exactly matched that hands-on-shoulders-cape feeling … And it was a nice place to put all of these, not like self-deprecating thoughts, but just all of the dark cloud energy into one place. And then when I was done with it, it made me feel like a teenager again, where I would write something and then … yield.” Also on today's episode, Chloe sits down with Marley and Samantha to discuss the news from over the weekend including the Tony wins and Dua Lipa's Italian wedding. They also talk about the American Style shoot that is part of the summer issue and listen to voice memos from two enthusiastic finalists. The Run-Through with Vogue is your go-to podcast where fashion meets culture. One of the most common talking points among policymakers and analysts in Washington is the belief that China aims to replace the United States as the world's dominant power. Variations of that narrative are also widely shared in many European capitals. There is little doubt that China is asserting itself more forcefully in global affairs, especially amid a new era of Great Power competition. But senior officials in Beijing have also made clear that they have little interest in taking on the full responsibilities and obligations that come with traditional global leadership. In a recent Foreign Policy article, Jeremy Friedman, an associate professor at Harvard Business School, explored the limits and ambitions of China's expanding international power. He joins Eric to discuss what China wants… and what it does not want from a changing global order.

Ralph Lauren isn't just a brand — it's one of the only American fashion houses that has shaped culture for nearly 60 years. And right now, it's having one of its biggest cultural moments yet, resonating across every generation. Today we're joined by longtime WWD fashion editor and friend of the house, Bridget Foley, who's had a front row seat to the brand's evolution. She's also the author of Lauren's latest book, Ralph Lauren Catwalk, which covers over 100 runway shows and the brand's most iconic moments. In this episode, we get into:What actually defines a brand with longevity (and why so few designers achieve it)Ralph's "meet cute" moment with fashion and why he calls himself a storyteller, not a designerThe authenticity that makes Ralph different from every other luxury houseWhy Ralph was doing "lifestyle" decades before the term existedThe hand-me-downs, vintage uniforms, and Bronx childhood that shaped his entire aestheticRalph's belief in longevity and preservation, sustainability before it had a nameInside the Ralph Lauren archive (and why Bridget calls it a "fashion lover's wonderland")Why Gen Z fell in love with Ralph Lauren and what their parents' closets have to do with itThe codes that have permeated time: the tuxedo jacket over jeans, the polo shirt, the patchworkRalph Lauren's optimism and what it's actually rooted inWhat Ralph has done to stay relevant with the next generationShop the new book, Ralph Lauren Catwalk, here: https://go.shopmy.us/p-56009344 Let's Get DressedYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@livvperezInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/letsgetdressedpod/Newsletter: https://substack.com/@livvperezLiv Perez Instagram: www.instagram.com/livvperezTikTok: www.tiktok.com/livv.perezShopMy: https://shopmy.us/livvperez Hosted on Acast. Democracy depends on finding common ground, yet politics have entered an era of what Director and Producer Dan Partland calls “extreme negative hyper-partisanship.” In a recent conversation, Dan discussed his upcoming documentary, UNFIT TOO, a sequel to his widely acclaimed film #UNFIT, which dissected the psychology of Donald Trump. This time, he seeks to look beyond Trump and Trumpism to examine how America can navigate out of this political and cultural divide.Dan explained the gravity of the situation, emphasizing how populism on both the right and left distorts democracy. “Populism is really about power...a ruthless majority,” Dan said. “Democracies can easily slip into that...what the study of psychology tells us is that these people are frequently...compelling...but it isn't necessarily good for the world.” Building on this analysis, the new documentary explores how polarization, populism, and societal divisions threaten democracy's core values of negotiation and representation. The concept behind UNFIT TOO takes the mission one step further: finding actionable strategies for individuals and communities to bridge the gaps between ideological divides. Dan sees this challenge reflected everywhere—from political discourse to fractured family dinners. He explained, “Every single family has been affected by this negative hyper-partisanship...What's the appropriate disposition towards that problem? How do you engage with people who you feel so different from?”As compelling as #UNFIT was in analyzing Donald Trump's leadership style, this sequel focuses on solutions. Dan noted that UNFIT TOO isn't just about diagnosing the current crisis but finding pathways to a more collaborative and functional democracy. The documentary aims to give audiences practical tools to discuss and address difficult, deep-rooted divides.Dan and his team are raising capital for UNFIT TOO through a regulated crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder. This approach reflects Dan's belief that business interests and philanthropy can align to create both cultural and social impact. Those interested in supporting the project can visit the campaign at s4g.biz/UNFIT.The success of #UNFIT, which became the top-selling documentary on Apple and a cultural phenomenon, is a testament to Dan's ability to tackle controversial and challenging topics in a meaningful way. UNFIT TOO promises to be equally impactful—a documentary that not only informs but also empowers Americans to reclaim the true spirit of democracy.tl;dr:Dan Partland's new documentary UNFIT TOO explores solutions to America's extreme polarization and populism. The film builds on the success of #UNFIT, examining Trump's psychology and its impact on politics.Dan describes populism as a key threat to democracy's representation, collaboration, and common-ground solutions. The sequel aims to provide tools for healing divides within families, communities, and broader political contexts.UNFIT TOO is raising funds via Wefunder, where business and philanthropy align for cultural impact. How to Develop Mission-Driven Leadership As a SuperpowerDan's superpower is his ability to unite people around a meaningful mission. Describing his work on documentaries like #UNFIT and now UNFIT TOO, Dan shared how engaging in mission-driven projects has fueled his work ethic and collaborations. “I really believe in... unifying people around a sense of mission,” Dan explained. For him, creating films that address real-world problems and inspire compassion in culture brings purpose to his work: “By aiming the lens at the real problems of real people, you engender more compassion.” Dan believes that great storytelling isn't just entertainment but a vehicle for social good, fostering collaboration and actionable impact. One project that exemplifies Dan's mission-driven approach was a documentary show embedded in a suburban high school, documenting students' trials and experiences. To align the production with the school's educational mission, Dan and his team created a filmmaking curriculum. This approach added value not only for the documentary but also for the students and community, demonstrating how mission-based work can serve diverse goals. Dan shared, “Creating this educational component...helped align with the project's objectives, amplifying the subjects' voices while advancing media literacy.”Tips for Developing This Superpower:Align Your Work with a Greater Purpose: Look for ways to connect your goals to real-world impact.Unify Teams Around Shared Missions: Create a sense of collective purpose for a project's success.Seek Collaborative Win-Wins: Ensure your work benefits stakeholders and participants in meaningful ways.Focus on Amplifying Social Good: Go beyond storytelling to highlight actionable change in your work.Cultivate Empathy Through Action: Use every opportunity to foster understanding, compassion, and collaboration.By following Dan's example and advice, you can make mission-driven leadership a skill. With practice and effort, you could develop this superpower to create impact and drive meaningful change in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileDan Partland (he/him):Director and Producer, UNFIT TOOAbout UNFIT TOO: UNFIT TOO is a feature-length documentary film being made to meet America's timely, urgent, and challenging moment.Website: wefunder.com/unfittooCompany Facebook Page: facebook.com/UnfitMovieCompany Twitter Handle: @duty2warnBiographical Information: Dan Partland is a veteran documentary producer and director whose work has defined nonfiction film and television over the past two decades. A two-time Emmy winner for Best Nonfiction Series and a two-time nominee for PGA's Nonfiction Producer of the Year, he began his career apprenticing with cinema verité pioneer Albert Maysles before founding the New York-based indie collective OTHER PICTURES (OPIX). There, he produced acclaimed projects including Welcome to the Dollhouse, which won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize, and The Ballad of Ramblin' Jack, a genre-defining documentary that also earned a Special Jury Prize at Sundance. He later co-created the groundbreaking series American High with RJ Cutler, winning an Emmy, and went on to executive produce and showrun A&E's Intervention for 14 seasons, producing over 150 episodes and helping reshape the national conversation on addiction.Partland has continued to push boundaries in documentary storytelling, serving as showrunner and director for CNN's The Sixties and later founding DOC SHOP, producing projects like Netflix's Afflicted, CNN's American Style, and TNT's American Race. This week made one thing painfully clear: America is under strain from every direction at once. From Donald's tariff policies driving inflation and job losses, to record-breaking food bank lines, to the alarming return of preventable diseases, the cracks in the system are impossible to ignore. Add to that the looming release of Epstein-related files, and long-simmering questions about power, accountability, and transparency are back at the forefront. In this episode, we break down how these crises are connected—and why this moment may mark a turning point for the country. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In 1972, Anson Williams landed the role of Potsie Weber in a segment of the comedy-anthology series Love, American Style titled "Love and the Happy Days", which also introduced Richie Cunningham (Ron Howard), Richie's mother Marion (Marion Ross), and other characters that were spun off into the television series Happy Days. (Only Williams, Howard, and Ross reprised their roles for the spin-off).The new series' first season, during which Williams received second billing after Howard, was centered mainly on Richie and Potsie. Eventually, as break-out character Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli (Henry Winkler) and Richie's mother, father, and sister became more popular, Potsie was joined by Ralph Malph (Don Most, who was merely a side character in season one), and Potsie and Ralph became inseparable.Unlike Howard and Most, Williams was one of the few to remain through the entire run of the series, although his appearances became less frequent in later seasons. In some episodes, Richie, Potsie, and Ralph formed a band combo that performed at Arnold's Drive-In and other places. As Potsie, Williams actually sang lead vocals for the group. Williams' first wife, Lorrie Mahaffey, portrayed Potsie's girlfriend, Jennifer, in later seasons. After Happy Days, Williams began a much more prolific career as a television director, starting with short programs for adolescent-age children, including afterschool specials "No Greater Gift" (1985) and "The Drug Knot" (1986), and TV-movie Lone Star Kid (1986). He has gone on to direct many episodes for a variety of television series, including Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, seaQuest DSV, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Charmed He also directed several episodes of the TV series 7th Heaven.Despite his success as a director and producer, Williams has occasionally returned to his work on Happy Days in retrospective ways. He played himself in a 1996 Happy Days-themed Boy Meets World episode (which also featured former castmates Tom Bosley and Pat Morita). While directing a 2003 episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch titled "Sabrina in Wonderland", he appeared as Potsie in a fantasy sequence. He also joined his fellow Happy Days cast members for reunion specials in 1992 and 2005.Williams is also a businessman. In 1987, fellow Happy Days cast member Al Molinaro and he opened a chain of diners called Big Al's; the business went defunct. He founded Starmaker Products, a cosmetics company, and was a featured speaker at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's National Trademark Expo in April 2008, at which he talked about the importance of registered trademarks for small businesses (and signed autographs for Happy Days fans). Williams is the author of Singing to a Bulldog: From Happy Days to Hollywood Director, and the Unlikely Mentor Who Got Me ThereABOUT THE PERFECT PORTION COOKBOOKAnson Williams is living proof that "Sixty is the New Sexy," and now he shares his own philosophy on fitness in "The Perfect Portion Cookbook," which was recently selected and scheduled by QVC to be launched on Super Bowl Sunday. Anson Williams, best known for his role of on "Happy Days," had the 100-calorie idea, based on his own need to stay fit and still be able to eat the foods he loved. He, along with and JoAnna Connell, contacted Bob Warden (New York Times best selling cookbook author and TV cooking personality), who partnered with Mona Dolgov (experienced nutritionist, cookbook author and marketer for the food and appliance industry) and the result was "The Perfect Portion Cookbook." "It's the first 100 Calorie Count System of its kind," says Anson. "America's Favorite Comfort Foods all in Simple 100 Calorie Portions. It's the easiest calorie count in the world. How cool is that?" Unlike any other programs out there, you can eat what you love and never over eat! The successful entrepreneurial team of Williams and Connell along with Warden and Dolgov, two of the most revered and respected individuals in the cooking world, have created an exciting lifestyle platform that will fight a horrendous problem - obesity. A catastrophic condition in the USA, "The Perfect Portion Cookbook" is a major step toward solving the problem. In a world that has been so "millennial" focused in recent years and where "boomers" are being judged as old or not happening, Anson sets an example of how vital they can be by using the Perfect Portion Control system himself, which has resulted in a slimmer and more energetic outlook. With 150 of America's favorite comfort foods, "The Perfect Portion Cookbook" has everything from French Toast to Lasagna and Apple Turnovers, all with easy, perfect portion control, using a simple 100 Calorie Counting System. The first of its kind, each of the classic comfort food recipes, allow food lovers to eat “guilt free,” because each recipe has been crafted in multiples of 100 calories, to select the perfect portion that is right for the individual. Eat perfect portions of the foods we all love and never overeat!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Mike and Rebekah look at Revival, American Style, with the modern church’s reliance on conferences with speakers to “spark revival,” versus the Biblical version that focuses solely on crying out to God for mercy in prayer and confession and repentance of sin. At the beginning of the Hebrides Revival in 1950, Peggy Smith challenged a pastor there with the following: “I’m sure, Mr. McCie, that you’re longing to see God working. What about calling your office bearers together, and suggest to them that you spend two nights a week waiting upon God in prayer. You’ve tried mission, you’ve tried special evangelists. Mr. McCie, have you tried God?” Peggy then challenged him to 2 nights of prayer a week from 10pm to 4am. Their focus on prayer would spark one of the most powerful spiritual awakenings of the last 125 years. Peggy’s words are prophetic for what we need today.

This is the story of interwar preparation–not that the United States realized it was preparing for World War II, new technologies, innovation, and a constant pushing of the limits in the 1930s did indeed help Uncle Sam prepare for the fight to come. To get us into an interwar mindset of praying for peace while preparing for war, Professor Jackson tells us the tale of the B-17 bomber and is then joined by GEN James E. Rainey, Commanding General, U.S. Army Futures Command, to discuss how the current day Army thinks about history to prepare for the future. In this informative conversation, GEN Rainey talks about the lessons, leaders, and innovations from the Army's 250 years of service to the nation that can inform and inspire officers, soldiers, and leaders of all vocations to meet the missions of tomorrow. General James E. Rainey is the Commanding General Commander, Army Futures Command (AFC). Headquartered in Austin, Texas, AFC is the Army's newest major command, responsible for transforming the Army to ensure war-winning future readiness, employing 30,000 Soldiers and Civilians at 128 locations worldwide. General Rainey commissioned as an infantry lieutenant upon graduating from Eastern Kentucky University in 1987. He has commanded at every level from platoon to division and has served in numerous combat deployments in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He earned a master's degree in advanced military arts and science from the School of Advanced Military Studies and another in Public Administration from Troy University. During the pandemic, it seemed like the internet, and specifically TikTok, was coughing up one fringe aesthetic after the next: Cottagecore! Trad Cath Coquette! Old Money! Coastal Grandmother! And of course, our personal fave, Dark Academia. We even did a whole episode on it, as part of a larger examinatin of post-pandemic aesthetics. Fast forward to today, and the churn of social media-born aesthetics seems to have slowed somewhat, leaving behind a landscape that feels more fragmented and difficult to parse. So we've brought back our guest for that episode — style writer, trend forecaster, and bonafide Cool Girl Biz Sherbert — to give us a lay of the sartorial land. Along with continuing to co-host the influential fashion and culture podcast Nymphet Alumni, and writing for places like The Face and AnOther Magazine, Biz recently launched a new publication called American Style on Substack (subscribe!), which she says is about “what people are really wearing and why.”If you're a CUJO subscriber, you already got a little taste via our Coachella collab with American Style a couple weeks ago. Either way, you're in for a treat: Biz joins us to talk about American Style's origin story and what's she's learned from documenting what young people are wearing out in the real world, at places ranging from a Deftones concert in Atlanta, to Disney World in Orlando, to a rave in North London. We also get into the state of countercultural and subcultural fashion in 2025; why men and boys seem, for the first time in a long time, to be leading the style conversation; the role that festivals like Coachella play in the wider image-making ecosystem; and the strange staying power of the festival cowgirl.Subscribe to American Style and follow Biz on Instagram (fka @marcfisherquotes). EPISODE 78 - “FILM NOIR - Part 1 - WHAT IS NOIR?” - 3/10/2025 Have you ever wondered what exactly is film noir? TCM's EDDIE MULLER describes it this way: “Film Noir is all about treachery, deceit, and paranoia. You're never quite sure what is going on, who you can trust, or what dreadful pitfall waits around the corner.” This dark and twisted film genre popped up after WWII as a quiet cynicism began to creep into the national consciousness. In film noir, there is always an underbelly of darkness that comes out to play. And within the darkness, the shadows, and the neon lights, lie many stories of crime, dishonesty, adultery, murder, and mayhem. This week, we present the first in a special three-part series that delves into the darkest of genres where crooked cops, gangsters, torch singers, barflies, and other seedy character's live, love and kill. Graham goes Inside the ICE house to discuss U.S. covert operations during a period of declared neutrality, internal conflicts among the Allies over a new world currency, and the crucial role of an unknown player, Ansel Luxford, in dismantling the German War Machine. https://www.ice.com/insights/conversations/inside-the-ice-house
