Send us a textEver wondered what happens when you mix 80s movie magic with hilarious tales of criminal mischief? Join us, DJ Paulie and Lou on the Back in Time Brothers show, as we take you on a nostalgic rollercoaster. We reminisce about iconic films like "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" and "Beverly Hills Cop," celebrating Eddie Murphy's timeless humor and Judge Reinhold's quirky antics. You'll also hear our surprisingly positive take on Robert Pattinson's modern Batman, as we compare his portrayal to Michael Keaton's unforgettable version, peppered with a humorous nod to Keaton's memorable commencement speech. From ridiculous to downright bizarre, we've got stories that will have you in stitches! Picture this: Jake, a man who's had one too many daiquiris, decides to ride his horse home, only to be stopped by the police for this less-than-sober adventure. Meanwhile, a gang in Columbus, Ohio, botches a robbery by making off with nothing but display phones. And halfway across the world, in Magnetogorsk, Russia, two daring five-year-olds escape kindergarten to buy a Jaguar, only to be safely returned home. These tales are guaranteed to entertain and keep you laughing. We wrap things up by exploring the vibrant cultural backdrop of the 80s with "The Last American Virgin." The film's plot, quirky characters, and soundtrack featuring Blondie, Journey, and The Cars provide a nostalgic trip back in time. We also dive into lyrical themes with tracks like "Going Back to Cali" and "Hazy Shade of Winter," reflecting on how music echoes the bittersweet journey of moving forward while cherishing the past. Skidding into your UNIT-approved podcatcher is the pod on "The Legend of Ruby Sunday," and, oh boy, do we have questions. Has Unit become the earth-based research office for Doctor Who? Why would Unit drop everything to find the Doctor's new friend's mother? How would the Tennant Doctor react if he saw Susan Triad's big reveal on television? And what is Sutekh without the Egyptian / Osirian backstory to lean on? All this and more as two grumpy old fans come to terms with the penultimate episode in Ncuti Gatwa's first season. The opening music is "Hazy Shade of Winter," covered by The Bangles, and the closing music is "Walk Like an Egyptian," by The Bangles. We recorded this episode on 19 June 2024.
'SUSANNA HOFFS BANGLES LEGEND THE LOST INTERVIEWS' Susanna Hoffs is the beautiful, talented & iconic vocalist for the commercially successful all- female pop/rock/new wave/ band ‘The Bangles.' Hoffs angelic and awe-inspiring vocals are definitive on such Bangles classics as …“Manic Monday” (1985 #2 US Billboard Hit), “Walk Like an Egyptian” (1986 #1 US Billboard Hit), “If She Knew What She Wants” (1986 #29 US Billboard Hit), “Hazy Shade of Winter” (1987 #2 US Billboard Hit), “Walking Down Your Street” (1987 #11 US Billboard Hit),“In Your Room” (1988 #5 US Billboard Hit), and the breathtaking “Eternal Flame” (1988 #1 US Billboard Hit). Hoffs is also ‘The Bangles' rhythm guitarist and songwriter. THE BANGS: After Susanna Hoffs graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied theatre, dance, and art, she headed back to Los Angeles and placed an ad in The Recycler, an LA based classifieds newspaper. A trio began to form with the addition of Sisters Vicky Peterson (vocals/guitars) and Debbi Peterson (vocals/drums) while subsequently adding Annette Zilinskas on bass. After short stints with names such as ‘The Colours' and ‘The Supersonic Bangs,' the newly formed all-girl band eventually settled on ‘The Bangs' while swiftly becoming a vital part of the Los Angeles Paisley Underground scene. The Bangs debut single “Getting Out of Hand” was released on their label DownKiddie Records and caught the attention of KROQ deejay Rodney Bingenheimer who repeatedly played the record on his show. THE BANGLES: ‘The Bangs' were auspiciously mandated to change their name so the group dropped ‘The' and added the letters ‘les' to form ‘Bangles,' a banner that would flourish into one of the greatest all-female groups in rock and roll history. In 1982, under new manager Miles Copeland, The Bangles supported The English Beat on a UK tour. In 1983, the group made its first appearance on Dick Clark's American Bandstand. In 1984, ‘All Over the Place,' The Bangles first full-length album was released on CBS (Columbia) Records. Michael Steele had replaced Annette Zilinskas on bass. Steele began her music career as Micki Steele with The Runaways. ‘All Over the Place,' spawned the singles”Hero Takes a Fall,” and “Going Down to Liverpool” which featured Susanna's childhood neighbor and family friend Leonard Nimoy. The Bangles popularity escalated and was asked to join such acts as ‘Cyndi Lauper' and ‘Huey Lewis and the News' on tour. Susanna Hoffs and The Bangles had captivated the attention of R&B/Pop/Funk/ music artist & songwriter ‘Prince.' Prince offered his penned single “Manic Monday” (1984) to The Bangles and the group promptly brought the tune into the recording studio. “Manic Monday” (1986) became The Bangles first big hit peaking at #2 on Billboards US Charts. Their second studio album ‘Different Light' (1986) produced by David Kahne peaked at #2 on the US Billboard Charts and is considered to be their most successful to date. Also in 1986, The Bangles opened for 'Queen' at Slane Castle, Ireland. In 1987, “Walk like an Egyptian” won Best Video at the 15th Annual Music Awards and again at the 5th Annual American Video Awards. ‘Everything' (1988) The Bangles third studio album spawned the Top 5 Hit “In Your Room,” and their worldwide #1 single “Eternal Flame” penned by Susanna Hoffs, Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. The Bangles attained a well-deserved hiatus throughout the 90's but returned with rock and roll vengeance in 1999. They released their fourth studio album entitled ‘Doll Revolution' in 2003. Bassist Michael Steele officially left The Bangles in 2005 and the band decided to use guest bassists while on tour. The Bangles most recent album ‘Sweetheart of the Sun' was released in 2011. In January of 2014, The Bangles returned to the legendary Whisky A GO GO to celebrate the club's 50th anniversary. SUSANNA HOFFS: In 1991, Susanna released her debut solo album entitled ‘When You're a Boy' produced by David Kahne. The album spawned the Top 40 hit single “My Side of the Bed.” The release featured such musical luminaries as John Entwistle, Jim Keltner, and Donovan. In 1996, Susanna Hoffs released her second studio album entitled ‘Susanna Hoffs.' Based on a Saturday Night Live stint in the early 1990's, Hoffs performed in the band ‘Ming Tea' with … Mike Myers, Matthew Sweet, Christopher Ward and Stuart Johnson. The SNL skit morphed into a three comedy film series ... Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997), Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999), and Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002). Jay Roach, Susanna's husband directed the Austin Power series and ‘Ming Tea' performed in all three movies. In 2006, Susanna collaborated with alternative rocker Matthew Sweet under the name ‘Sid n Susie,' and released ‘Under the Covers' Volumes 1, 2 &3 featuring classic rock cover songs of the 60's,70's, and 80's. In 2012, Susanna released her critically-acclaimed studio album entitled ‘Someday.' Susanna's vocals are more radiant than ever. Hoffs collaborated with musical partner Andrew Brassell and producer Mitchell Froom on her best solo album to date. All the tracks are co-penned by Susanna Hoffs. Hoffs & Brassell continue to co-write music and hope to release a new album sometime in 2015. ‘Susanna Hoffs' performs at The Satellite in Los Angeles on July 18th with special guests Fred Armisen and Petra Haden. ‘The Bangles' kicked off their summer concert series on June 6th at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, California … click [Here] for a complete ‘Bangles' tour listing. Recently, I had the great pleasure of chatting with Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles and discussed … Her latest solo projects …Collaborating with Andrew Brassell … Producer Mitchell Froom … Early musical influences …The Bangles past & present … The inception of “Manic Monday,” “Eternal Flame,” “A Hazy Shade of Winter,” …and future plans as a solo artist & with ‘The Bangles.' The roster is slowly but surely coming together. The Cubs still have questions and holes on the roster, but they've now added a quality starting pitcher in Shota Imanaga, lefty bat in Michael Busch, and two relievers capable of picking up leverage innings – Hector Neris and Yancy Almonte. Despite the additions and the overall increase in talent at the bottom of the 40-man roster, the Cubs are going to have some really interesting choices this spring. Will the Cubs get Cody Bellinger or Matt Chapman? Who seems destined for the opening day roster? Let's dig in. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Hello everyone! John Cowsill is back, and this time he brought his beautiful wife Vicki. Most of you on Drum Channel should be familiar with John's career, he's been drumming almost as long as he's been walking. We're going to talk about his appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show at age eight years old with his family band The Cowsills, and their hit song, “The Rain The Park and Other Things” (which most people know as “The Flower Girl” song.) and also the inspiration for the popular TV show The Partridge Family and more. We speak to Vikki about her group The Bangles, featuring Debbi Peterson (Vicki's sister) on drums & vocals, Susanna Hoffs on guitar & vocals, and bassist Micki Steele (who before joining in 1983, was in The Runaways for a minute) replacing original and now current bassist Annette Zilinaskas. The female foursome went on to become one of the most popular bands of the eighties with hits, “Manic Monday,” Walk Like an Egyptian,” Eternal Flame,” and “Hazy Shade of Winter,” along with sold-out tours all over the world. Vicki's sister Debbi also joins us, via Zoom, to talk about her experience as the drummer/singer in the Bangles, getting started, a few of her influences, and more. Happy New Year! Let's enjoy!

Time, time, time, see what's become of me....Three best friends, Clay (Andrew McCarthy), Blair (Jami Gertz) and Julian (Robert Downey Jr,) reunite at Christmas break after a disastrous Thanksgiving meeting. Blair has been worried about Julian, he owes Rip (James Spader) a whole lotta money, his family has had it with him, and he's freebasing in public spaces. Clay comes home hoping to repair these relationships, but finds a Hazy Shade of Winter instead. Cover versions – always fascinating!! Occasionally, an artist will cover an obscure song, or a deep cut by another artist and make it their own. But what about when the song has ALREADY been a hit? Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't; sometimes it ends up in court! This episode, we're looking at examples of all three. Our “Album You Must Hear Before You Die” is, believe it or not, “And other bits of material” by Paper Lace, the most successful band to come out of Nottingham, UK. The hit single from the album, “The Night Chicago Died” topped the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over three million copies! Who'd have thought it? Jeff also follows up with some rock news looking at Ozzy Osbourne and Bruce Springsteen's efforts to stay on the stage. In part 2 of a super-smash crossover event with Pop Culture Affidavit, the brothers Ryan and Neil Daly welcome guest host Tom Panarese to continue their already-three-hours-long discussion on favorite cover songs for another equally-long-conversation (seriously, what the hell is wrong with these guys?!!). What makes a great cover song? What's the point of covering somebody else's music? Do women sing Tom Waits songs better than he does? Do punk bands play Bob Dylan songs better than he does? Why does Panarese hate his sister? What genre does Neil like more than rock 'n roll? What song makes Ryan think about dying, but like, y'know, in a good way, maybe? All these questions, and many more than you want to know, will be answered on this episode of Fire and Water Records! Track list "Hey Jude" (The Beatles) covered by Wilson Pickett "La Bamba" (Traditional/Ritchie Valens) covered by Los Lobos "Desolation Row" (Bob Dylan) covered by My Chemical Romance "Got to Get a Message to You" (The Bee Gees) covered by Swamp Dogg "It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City" (Bruce Springsteen) covered by David Bowie "Higher Ground" (Stevie Wonder) covered by Red Hot Chili Peppers "Both Sides Now" (Joni Mitchell) covered by Neil Daly "Get Down, Make Love" (Queen) covered by Nine Inch Nails "Landslide" (Fleetwood Mac) covered by Smashing Pumpkins "Drive" (The Cars) covered by Britta Phillips "Ol' 55" (Tom Waits) covered by Sarah McLachlan "Love is All Around" (Sonny Curtis/"The Mary Tyler Moore Show") covered by Joan Jett "Stand By Me" (Ben E. Welcome to PTBN Pop's Video Jukebox Song of The Day! Every weekday will be featuring a live watch of a great and memorable music video. Since we're in the middle of winter, all of our songs this week have to do with the cold. On today's episode, Andy Atherton is watching “Hazy Shade Of Winter” by The Bangles from 1987. We've always known about Simon and Garfunkel as a thing, and known about both men as solo artists (mainly Paul Simon), but until now we'd never taken the time to listen properly to their five album output and decide which we liked best. Their songs are inescapable, they're part of the furniture of Western Civilization, you cannot not know Mrs Robinson and The Sound of Silence and Hazy Shade of Winter and Bridge Over Troubled Water because even now, half a century later, these songs are still meaningful, still poignant, and still played. So, as usual, we read some books and did some research and got to know the story of the band. It wasn't easy to rank the albums, there was a fair bit of disagreement, especially around the final two. We try to use disagreement to better inform our decisions by listening to each others opinions and being willing to change our minds and see things differently; we try not to just compromise by calculating an average view numerically ... but we don't always get that right and sometimes we just have to run the numbers - this felt like one of those times. The Simon and Garfunkel Jeffrey Podcast Playlist is available here on Spotify and here on Deezer. The Simon and Garfunkel page on the JeffreyMusic.Rocks website is here.
It's Christmas in LA, and remember to payback your drug dealer for the 50K you own him! We're rounding out our Bret Easton Ellis discussion on the podcast just in time for the holidays, and watched Less Than Zero with our friend Ben Cheaves from TCM Slumberground. It's a home for the holidays tale as old as time. Clay (Andrew McCarthy) comes back home from his preppy east coast college at the request of his coked out ex-girlfriend Blair (Jami Gertz) to find his out control friend Julian (Robert Downey Jr.) on a drug spiral. Part portrait of 80s excess, and cautionary drug tale, this movie is a fasinating rewatch decades later. We talk about the polarizing sex appeal of Andrew McCarthy, how Jami Gertz is acting in a completely different movie than the rest of the cast. (And we're oddly enough here for it) And how the bisexualness of its source material is heavily toned down from page to screen. Despite all this movies faults (and there are a lot) were still here for it as a perfect time capsule of the mid-1980s from the stacked TVs, Jami's teased hair, to its girl rock anthem Hazy Shade of Winter by the Bangles on its soundtrack.

After the overwhelming success of his “Born to Run” album, Bruce Springsteen's next studio album would take a dramatically different approach. First, Tunnel of Love would be a solo project, and the E. Street Band was not credited as a contributor, though many members of the E. Street Band would be credited individually. Springsteen plays many of the instruments himself, and made use of drum machines and synthesizers on the tracks. Second, the lyrics look inward as Springsteen explores aspects of lost love. Springsteen was reacting to his troubled marriage to actress Julianne Phillips from whom he would receive divorce papers the following year. The divorce was finalized in 1989.Tunnel of Love was a critical and commercial success. Critics would praise the originality of the material and its introspective nature. The album would receive a Grammy award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo at the 1988 Grammy awards. Commercially the album would hit number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts and go triple platinum. Five singles would be released from the album, three of which cracked the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.Brian brings us this album for today's podcast. Two FacesThis deeper cut explores how there is a lighter side and a darker side within each of us, and how we can come to hurt the ones we love. The singer prays that the “our love will make the other man go away,” but that other man is a part of us.Brilliant DisguiseThis was the first single released from the album, and it went to number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart. It reflects doubt, first in the singer's lover, and later in the singer himself. The question is whether either has become a stranger to the other. One Step UpThis third single from the album was only released as a single in the U.S. Unlike much of the album, this song was not recorded in Springsteen's home studio, but at A&M Studios in Los Angeles. The song reflects the troubles in Springsteen's marriage. Although Springsteen played all instruments, E Street Band member Patti Scialfa sings backup. Scialfa would marry Springsteen in 1991.Valentine's Day The last song on the album takes a surprisingly upbeat look at relationships, as the singer longs for his love. It's quite a contrast with the other songs on the album. “So hold me close honey say you're forever mine, and tell me you'll be my lonely valentine.” ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Mess Around by Ray Charles (from the motion picture “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”) With the abundance of Christmas movies, this is an unusual Thanksgiving comedy starring Steve Martin and John Candy trying to get home during the Holiday rush. STAFF PICKS:Time Stand Still by Rush Bruce leads off the staff picks with the first single from Rush's 12th studio album “Hold Your Fire.” The lyrics were inspired by Neal Peart's time in the band as he reflects on the things he missed while spending time on the road. 'Til Tuesday's lead singer and bassist Aimee Mann contributes backing vocals on this song. Hazy Shade of Winter by The BanglesWayne brings us a cover with a much faster beat than the original Simon and Garfunkel version. This song appeared on the soundtrack for the motion picture “Less Than Zero.” The Bangles had covered this song since 1983, and offered it to the movie rather than writing a new piece. The Bangle's version peaked at number 2 on the charts.Give to Live by Sammy Hagar The Red Rocker was still under contract for a solo album despite joining Van Halen, and Rob features this single off the album that fulfilled his commitment. Tidbit: Eddie Van Halen plays bass on this album.Little Lies by Fleetwood MacBrian finishes off the staff picks with a hit from the album “Tango In the Night.” Keyboardist Christine McVie takes her turn on lead with this song written by her and her husband at the time, Eddy Quintela. The idea is that sometimes little lies are easier to take than the truth. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Midnight by Joe SatrianiThis is an instrumental selection from Satriani's album “Surfing With the Alien,” released in 1987.

Field Operations Team 623 drives through the portal to find themselves in the middle of a blizzard. Where is this
Cast your mind back to January 2021. When I do that, I just can't get the Simon and Garfunkel song, Hazy Shade of Winter out of my head. And that's because I'm now associating it with Time. In the sense that in January 2021, we were still in the middle of the pandemic, and of course, behaviour change and behavioural science and the demand for behaviour change marketing based campaigns was at its height. And so we ran a survey called “Help. I am not a behavioural scientist, get me out of here" across public sector, comms NHS, local government fire police, and we asked what are your biggest challenges and how confident are you feeling in delivering communications based messaging using behavioural science. The overwhelming theme that came back was time. Everyone was saying they just had no time to actually do it, whether to learn it, or whether to apply it to the standards that they wanted. Time just was the biggest B.S. barrier. To really respond to the survey we've now running…drumroll please. We're launching The busy communicators guide to behavioural science. So this is going to be some core worksheets that will be made available to you for your CPD for free. And excitingly, we're going to lead with audio learning, it's a really popular style of learning. 3:18 Okay, so welcome to the busy communicators guide to Prospect Theory. We're going to do a very short overview on this. Clearly, we can't fit everything in. And what I've done is I've taken out the most salient points that I feel are most useful for us in our profession. But I will put in the shownotes, lots of links to more detailed conversations and more detailed reading for you. But I just want to highlight that I don't think there's going to be anything in here that you don't already know. But I think the penny will drop as to why those things happen. As a communicator, you already know that things really need to be really salient, we need to break through the noise. And so Prospect Theory is just a little bit about the science as to why. And it's really good because if you're ever tempted or away from these gut feelings you've got, I'd say, as a marketer, stick with the gut, and there's some science behind it. So hopefully do prepare for some penny drop moments as we go through. And I like to start now with taking your mind back 300 years. So if this was a history book, we'd have a big chapter title - the end of the rational era, 300 years of rule, and a heralded mathematician called Daniel Bernoulli a Swiss genius. He espouses a theory called Utility Theory to understand how humans make decisions based on risk. Little do you know, standing in this beautiful Swiss court in 1738, that this theory would come to dominate The Western world of economics for over 300 years. So to reduce years of complex research and modelling down to one sentence, basically, the utility theory was that we, as in humans, you and me, will make decisions primarily to avoid loss. And these decisions would be useful or have utility. So they would be in our best interests, aka rational. So now, just close your eyes for a moment and imagine the BBC news readers from the 1950s. You can hear this premise in action, the driving force behind the tone behind the delivery of the news, you know, it was very much I'm sharing with you some information with the expectation that you will take it seriously and apply it sensibly. There definitely was the sense of here's the information now make a very sensible, rational decision. So let's jump forward to the 1970s. And not only is the first female prime minister being elected, the Walkman has taken the world by storm. And interestingly, in 1979, the UK public sector workers were on strike, they were demanding a 60 pound a week minimum wage and the 35 hour workweek. So whilst all that's going on a revolutionary new economic theory has arrived, that basically ends this 300 year rule of the rational. This theory is called Prospect Theory. And it is the work of two geniuses, Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman and his colleague, Amos Tversky. 7:13 It signalled a huge paradigm shift that has continued to grow in strength to this day. And essentially, I like to call it the beating heart of behavioural science. And again, to really drill down years of complex research (they continued working on this until 1992) so literally years and years, decades of work into one sentence, it basically says that we are irrational. And we don't always make the best decision in favour of utility. So it sounds obvious, right? Yeah. How is this revolutionary? What's really important is it really truly was, this is a huge paradigm shift. And if we take a moment just to pause, and reflect on that, and if you think about your work, and the amount of requests that come in for you to sprinkle your fairy dust of magic, am I say that because I know it's cringe worthy. And I know it's so hated in the comms world, but if you think about all the incoming requests, there is so often this rational assumption that comes with them that please share this information. Yes, make it fun and lively. But please share this information with the expectation that the audience will hear it and do what is expected. So yes, it's a huge paradigm shift. But it's still a baby, we've gone through 300 years to 1979. I am older than this theory, I was born in 1975. So not by much, but still in the terms of science looking at it is it's a young theory, and it's still growing and evolving today, which is why behavioural science is just exploding. The research industry is just is huge. And it's growing a lot. So this is a cornerstone theory, which you can if you learn and understand you can be really confident in applying. So of course, it is slightly more complex than that one sentence and I'm going to share with you three concepts that break it down quite nicely. Certainty – offer a guarantee Your audience wants certainty of avoidance of loss. And your audience will take greater risks to achieve that. You're thinking, you know, the more people lose, the more people are likely to actually take greater risks to avoid the loss because they've got nothing left to lose. And if we think about the national smoking campaigns been for well over a decade, I know I worked on them for 15 years, I think, and we've talked about it before. But one absolute genius move that they started and is probably familiar to everyone is that they do say that you're much more likely to quit using the service, and they even have a number. So is it 2.5. But anyway, they have a guarantee, they say you are much more likely to achieve your goal. And this is really important, especially when you're asking someone to lose so much when you quit smoking. Okay. A nice fun example - think about it in terms of products, when you're buying a TV, you know, they might say yes, we guarantee you can watch endless streaming of Netflix on our TV, absolutely wonderful cinema surround sound. And if you don't bring it back, no questions asked, okay, this is great, you might spend my money if I don't like it, there's no loss here. And this is really closely linked as well to the endowment effect, which we will come on to in a later episode, which just talks about the importance of getting people to try and use your information. The second is isolation effect. – We focus on differences more than we do similarities 12:08 No surprises to anyone here that salience is essential. Prospect Theory explains that we as humans focus on differences more than we do similarities. Think of the matrix and the girl in the red dress, very salient, very obvious, and everyone goes and looks, but you know that already – you know that to break through the noise, you need to be as salient as possible. So for me as a marketer, I like this, because it brings out the role of the other elements of communication. So it brings out the role of the actual product of design of packaging, and all these other intrinsic paths that actually will take go a long way to reaching your goal. Loss looms larger than gains (2.5x larger) So the other one is loss aversion. Loss Aversion looms larger than gains, our fear of loss is at least two and a half times greater than our joy of the game. It is applied in varying degrees, but it does remain consistent across everyone as we have a psychological response to loss. It's human nature to prevent that pain prevent that hurt. Importantly the research pointed out something called a reference point. So a reference point was brand new, it did not exist in Utility Theory. The reference point understands that people will make decisions based on where they are in that moment. And this is why it is essential, because when we working with deprived communities, people without financial safety nets, their reference point is very different to someone else's reference point, who perhaps does have that safety net, which is why segmentation and marketing is absolutely essential. So if you think about your work programmes, and your campaigns, think about, well, how different does my audience respond to this loss? Do they perceive a loss? Is my current messaging triggering a loss when it doesn't need to? Am I talking more about gains than losses is human nature to focus on the losses? They found in the research that we will quite naturally focus on what we're going to lose more than what we'll gain? So is it our job to actually make sure that we're shifting the narrative and making the game the game that bigger shiny a brighter, brighter, brighter, brighter thing to. Ask yourself, do you understand your audience reference points? 14:57 In 1995, the American Psychological Association studied the medal winners from the Barcelona Olympics. So they studied those wonderful Olympians who won their gold, silver and bronze medals. And it's a lovely way to illustrate the concept of the reference point. Because they found that silver winners were a lot unhappier than gold, and bronze winners. And that's simply because their reference point was, they were going for gold. So they have lost something. Whereas often in training and expectations, at a bronze medal winners level was actually the bronze was the highest, and perhaps they'd get fourth or fifth place. So they didn't lose. The study was done by the American Psychological Association, in 1995 and is a really nice way to just understand the power of framing and the reference point. And ultimately, at the end of the day, these are economic theories. And they're based around probability. But they're really useful for us to have as a deeper understanding of people, especially if we know there's some easy wins, we can make an are copy, and we're focusing in on a loss. And you can also easily shift it or I know my audience, I thought I did, but actually I don't, because I don't know what their point of references. I don't know what their reaction is to this loss. And actually, it could change your market research and your insight plan. Because you can might think I need to understand what the gains are. Transcribed by https://otter.ai

What lies ahead for business may be a bit unclear at this time. To help with that, Scott and Vince sit down for Episode 7 to talk about the return to work and the many things lacking clarity concerning business leaders today. What are the guidelines? Are your people looking for other opportunities? Will they leave if you make them come back to the office? Should you stay remote, or maybe go hybrid? For business owners, CEOs, and entrepreneurs, navigating our way into a post-pandemic business world will be as challenging as it was navigating into, and through, the pandemic itself. After the second week of regular season football in Northern California featured several game cancellations due to wildfire smoke, hosts Chace and Ben talk about the wild cancellation/rescheduling frenzy. As part of the conversation, they welcome Clayton Valley High co-coach Nick Tisa to discuss his team's manic four-day stretch that involved multiple bus trips to Turlock. The Ugly Eagles were finally able to play their game on Monday night, so the hosts asked him about that as well as being on AQI watch again for the Friday's game scheduled at Del Oro-Loomis. The jam-packed episode also features its first student-athlete guest as San Ramon Valley-Danville offensive lineman Jackson Brown joins the show to discuss his recent commitment to Cal. Chace and Ben also pick his brain about having the Wolves' opener smoked out and what they expect from their Top 20-showdown with visiting Bishop O'Dowd-Oakland on Friday. They might have asked him about his name resemblance to a certain musician as well. And recurring guest Coach Terry Eidson returned to have a laugh and chat about the wacky national story of Bishop Sycamore — the Ohio-based "team" that managed to lie its way into a nationally-televised game against IMG Academy last weekend. Coach Eidson also offers his first game picks of the season, and the co-hosts follow with their usual run of predictions.
