Bring out your dead! Though the term isn't used often, necromancy as a concept has a major place in ASOIAF. It's a deep topic: from wights beyond the Wall in the middle of nowhere to Ser Robert Strong at the Red Keep itself… From Beric Dondarrion and Lady Stoneheart to ancient tales as far east as Asshai and as far west as the Iron Isles, not to mention real world influences both historical and fictional. Art by:1) Magali Villenueve (for The World of Ice and Fire)2) Marc Simonetti (for The World of Ice and Fire)Link utili:1) https://hawkstower.wordpress.com/2015/04/07/ancient-empires-the-valyrian-freehold-and-the-roman-republic/2) https://aminoapps.com/c/thrones/page/blog/asoiaf-vs-historical-influence-empire-of-old-ghis/6P2I_zuPLrRQ3R1Lpk5dPjGp7Yprm813) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eiURy35n58&list=PL4wWPq1QkF9sdOyoOpj0QxQ6JvqfVrCnx&index=17&ab_channel=LaCittadella4) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5Ae4yvEHrE&ab_channel=TheDisputedLands5) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEAev34CehM&ab_channel=TheDisputedLands6) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jzGsNKEbRg&list=PL4wWPq1QkF9sdOyoOpj0QxQ6JvqfVrCnx&index=51&ab_channel=LaCittadella7) https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/ydl5zh/spoilers_extended_unnatural_history_of_dragons_by/Supportate il canale in cambio di contenuti esclusivi: https://www.patreon.com/LaCittadellaQui trovate tutti i link del canale e dei suoi host: https://linktr.ee/LaCittadella

The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Daenerys fails to convince any of the grandees of Qarth to fund her plans to invade Westeros. Factions vye for her favor, but all seem bent on ownership of her dragons. She decides that it's time to see the warlocks. Mackelly and Simon survey her options. Chapter Review: Daenerys Targaryen rides in Xaro Xhoan Daxos' palanquin having been rebuffed by the Pureborn of Qarth. Her bribes and supplications were for nothing. She was a novelty to them and no more. He reiterates his offer to marry her and provide all that she will ever need. Qarth custom is that married couples maintain their own property, so she would not have to share her dragons. However, Dany thinks he's more interested in the young male servants that populate his house. They stop to watch a firemage perform amazing tricks, and Dany is approached by Quaithe. The shadowbinder explains that the firemage's powers have skyrocketed since Dany arrived. The dragons amplify magic. Quaithe again warns Dany that nobody is to be trusted, that all want her dragons for themselves, and that she should go east to Asshai to find the truth. Later, Ser Jorah tells Dany the one fact that Xaro is concealing. On their wedding day, each can ask the other for a gift that cannot be denied. One of her dragons would surely be forfeit. They conclude that they're not getting anywhere, but Dany cannot understand why the comet led them to Qarth if not to provide them with soldiers and ships. They decide their next, and last, stop in Qarth will be with Pyat Pree and the warlocks. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Daenerys Targaryen - Daughter of King Aerys. Widow of Khal Drogo. George R.R. Martin has called Beric a "fire wight" and a foreshadowing for Jon Snow's inevitable resurrection, and most people think Melisandre will give Jon R'hllor's "last kiss" at some point, so it's an important thing to understand... but it also turns out to help reveal the secret origins of R'hllorism - an origin that has roots in both Asshai and Westeros, and the events of the Long Night.

Daenerys and her khalasar arrive at Qarth. Various factions vie for her favor. Ser Jorah brings news from Westeros that King Robert is dead, his son Joffrey sits the throne, and the usurper's allies the Starks and Lannisters are at war. Dany is thrilled but Jorah cautions that nothing has really changed. Simon and Mackelly rehash the old news. Chapter Review: Daenerys Targaryen and her crew enter Qarth. It is awash with colors and life, everything that Vaes Tolorro was not. Dany displays her dragons as she is paraded through the city led by Pyat Pree and Xaro Xhoan Daxos. The citizens are naturally amazed. The two men make bids for her affection by undermining the other, Dany ultimately choosing Daxos' offer of a whole wing of his giant manse. The masked woman Quaithe warns Dany to beware all of them. Jorah concurs. While Dany gets a bath, her men visit the rest of the city - she wants to know about the parts that her parade route did not enter. Ser Jorah is sent to the docks to find any news from Westeros. While she bathes, she tries to come up with a plausible route for her back to the Iron Throne. Her enemies, Robert Baratheon, Eddard Stark, Tywin Lannister and Jamie Lannister loom large in her imagination, and her vulnerable position is obvious to all. Jorah returns with Captain Quhuru Mo of the Summer Isles. He has reliable, although not detailed intelligence, that Robert Baratheon is dead. That Ned Stark has been labeled a traitor and that Westeros is at war with itself over the line of succession. She's delighted and promises the captain a handsome reward when he visits her in King's Landing and she sits the Iron Throne. Later Jorah counsels her to not broadcast her intentions, but she wants the world to know she's coming. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Daenerys Targaryen - Daughter of King Aerys. Widow of Khal Drogo. Mother of dragons. Claimant to the Iron Throne. Khaleesi of a small khalasar in Essos. Ser Jorah Mormont - Banished Lord of Bear Island. Advisor to Daenerys Targaryen. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
We rejoin the Mother of Dragons as she chooses to traverse the barren Red Waste, to avoid her many enemies. The going is arduous and her Khalasar is diminished still further. Outriders find the city of Qarth, emissaries of which are very keen to meet the dragons. Ser Jorah, Mackelly, and Simon all reckon she needs to tread carefully. Chapter Review: Daenerys Targaryen considers her options. All directions are bad. Her Khalasar is miniscule and mostly comprises those unable to fight. Her dragons are suckling babes unable to defend themselves. Her enemies abound. The comet seems to point south east - so that way they go into the desert known as the Red Waste.Things go badly and many people (including Doreah) and horses die before they discover an abandoned city with fruit trees and wells. They rest there. Ser Jorah tells his queen of his former life as Lord of Bear Island. How he fell in love with Lynesse Hightower and married her. But her need for finer things bankrupted Jorah leading to a life of crime, and ultimately to his self-imposed banishment to Essos. He tells the Khaleesi that she looks like Lynesse. Dany sends her three bloodriders on as scouts, in different directions. The first two return empty-handed, but Jhogo comes back with three dignitaries from the city of Qarth. They would welcome the Khalasar and the dragons to their home. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Daenerys Targaryen - Daughter of King Aerys. Widow of Khal Drogo. Mother of Dragons. Learned Hands: The Official Podcast of the Westerosi Bar Association
In this episode of Learned Hands, the Official Podcast of the Westerosi Bar Association, Maester Merry & Clint from Laws of Ice and Fire and Special Guest Learned Hand Kristine Kippins ask: What are the Westerosi laws around sex work, reproductive rights, gender expression, and sexual discrimination? Our analysis this week includes:A deep dive into the laws surrounding First Night, including whether they are effectively enforced.Kristine gives a powerful oratory about the transformational potential of storytelling.Robust debate over whether "put your peen away" is the unofficial motto of this episode.Rohanne of Asshai schools us on Cersei's sexuality. We decide whether sex work is legal (it mostly is!) In depth discussion of the performance of gender roles as a sword without a hilt.BUTTERThis episode is the capper to Episode Six, Let's Talk About Sex, Pt. I, which discusses laws around love, sex and marriage generally. Both episodes should carry trigger warnings for frank discussions of things like rape, sexual violence, and incest. How do the legends of Azor Ahai and Lightbringer, which are from Asshai and the Further East, connect to Westeros, Dawn, the last hero and his dragonsteel, the Night's Watch, and the War for the Dawn? Are any Westerosi Houses descended from the Great Empire of the Dawn? (hint: yes) It's all here...
We were joined by Joe Magician in this livestream to discuss the arc of Melisandre of Asshai in The Winds of Winter. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Evidence abounds for the existence of a pre-Valyrian, pre-Long Night civilization of dragonlords, now mostly vanished from the pages of history. The evidence leads us to Asshai, and to a legend of a Dawn Age high civilization called the Great Empire of the Dawn... This is the audio version, but I highly recommend checking out the video on YouTube, as I included a lot of amazing Asshai, Five Forts, and Essos artwork that you probably haven't seen, as well as some handy-dandy visual aids and maps and things. Cheers!
The Fingers of Davos gain a third tonight as Chloe of Girls Gone Canon joins the cast to talk The World of Ice and Fire. Our first episode covering this tome, and it is a doozy. From the Shivering Seas frozen in legend to the mystical walkers of the Ifeqevron, the Fingers (and Chloe) dive into some of the lesser known parts of Essos. Then they cross the Bone Mountains and explore the empire of Yi-Ti and east to Asshai by the Shadow. Not much is known of these strange lands by the Maesters of the Citadel, but speculation from the Fingers is not in short supply. We have started our coverage of The World of Ice and Fire. As is our wont, we are doing it a little differently. We were very excited to jump ALL the way East, so we started at the end and will work our way back for a bit. We will be working our way back for the next episode including coverage of the Dothraki! So check back in 3 weeks! If you would like to reach out and touch us, please do! We are always eager to hear from George’s fans. We can be found all over the place. @davosfingers on Twitter is our most frequent haunt. But we can be found on Facebook, at wearedavosfingers@gmail.com, on our website at www.davosfingers.com. If you want to suppor the Fingers on Patreon check out patreon.com/davosfingers! Selection Covered: Everything in this episode (outside of speculation) can be found within The World of Ice and Fire from The Shivering Sea (page 294) through the end of the Asshai-By-The-Shadow section (page 309) and also the end of the book.

The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Bran is falling... and falling... and falling. A crow with three eyes accompanies him on his fall. He sees a lot of the happenings around the known world, from dragons stirring in the far east to something terrifying in the far north. Then he does what everyone has been waiting for. He names his wolf! Oh, and he wakes. The guys do what they do: take it all apart, examine the pieces from each angle, and put it back together again wrapped in a bow. Oh, and Simon explains why at times he sounds like a mix between a pirate and John Wayne.Chapter ReviewBran falls from way up high. A three-eyed crow falls along with him. The boys forge ahead through Fire and Blood in Episode 093: Good Queen Alysanne. In this episode Jaehaerys and Alysanne face tragedy as the Shivers bear down on Westeros. They also make a progress up north where the winter’s cold and Alaric’s hospitality is the same. Also, Alysanne flexes on her husband to end a sacred right to the Lords of Westeros, while Jaehaerys uses some windfalls of capital to improve infrastructure for his Kingdom. In this episode we wanted to mention that we had a few audio issues in our recording. In truth Matt was a hero in salvaging some spots. We regret this departure from our normal level of quality and thank the Khalasar for their understanding. This is our second to last episode of Fire and Blood as our bizarre journey through that tome winds to an end. After we polish that off, we will be jumping straight into some more ASOIAF, hand-picking sections from The World of Ice and Fire. As is our custom, we aren’t going to make it easy, actually starting with the section called “The Bones and Beyond”, which covers lands to the East, like Asshai. We will be hand selecting other selections as we go. If you want to send us some ravenmail, we can be found in lots of places on the scary web. wearedavosfingers@gmail.com, on twitter @davosfingers, you can find us and like us on Facebook, or check out davosfingers.com for our Tumblr site. Lastly, if you want to support us by becoming a Patron, check out patreon.com/davosfingers. Selection Covered: The selection we will cover in this episode can be found in FIRE AND BLOOD: “Jaehaerys and Alysanne - Their Triumphs and Tragedies” (pg 253) through “The Long Reign” (pg 302).
