When two low-level office workers, Larry and Richard, discover a financial discrepancy at their company, they bring it to the attention of their boss, Bernie Lomax. Unbeknownst to them, Bernie is behind the fraud—and plans to have them silenced. But before he can act, Bernie is murdered by a mob hitman. Instead of calling the authorities, Larry and Richard pretend Bernie is still alive to avoid suspicion—and keep the party going at his lavish beach house. Hilarity ensues as the duo desperately tries to maintain the illusion that Bernie is alive, leading to one of the most bizarre and iconic dark comedies of the 1980s.If you are new to the podcast then please consider following us on the platform that you love, we can be found most anywhere that you listen to your favorite podcasts. This week we are talking "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare" which is another sequel that set out to be the last (but not really). This movie had a lot for us to discuss like the confusion of when they are dreaming vs when they are awake, the lack of deaths, the creepy carnival, the recovery shelter that looked like it was abandoned, and more. No matter if you liked this movie or not, we can all agree that Robert Englund knocks it out of the park. This was a blast to discuss The next sequel that will be discussed is "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood", which is the 1st time that Kane Hodder donned the mask. It's Carrie vs Jason with some great characters and Bernie Lomax as a bad guy. For it, I chatted with Actress and Writer Staci Greason. Staci played Jane in Friday the 13th Part VII, but most people know her as Isabella Toscano from Days of Our Lives. We talked about being on hit soap opera for so many years, her new book "All the Girls in Town", and more. Bernie Lomax is dead. But hey, why should that stop the hilarity? Yes, 1989's Weekend at Bernie's was an odd comedy. Critics hated it. Audiences made it a hit on cable. Jonathan Silverman and Andrew McCarthy were certainly game for the grim plot, and even jumped back in for a sequel. Now though, over 30 years later, has comedic rigor mortis set in? Or were the laughs really dead on arrival even back then? And, is “I'm horny” an effective pick-up line? The Old Roommates grab a shovel and dig through the madness of this morbid little movie. In our latest episode, we discuss the 1989 comedy classic Weekend at Bernie's. This humorous farce was directed by Ted Kotcheff and written by Robert Klane. It stars Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman as two young insurance professionals who go to a weekend getaway at the beach house of their very “lively” boss, Bernie Lomax. The film is a loose adaptation of the 1959 Brazilian novella The Two Deaths of Quincas Wateryell, which was then translated into English under the title The Double Death of Quincas Water-Bray.
What would you do if you found your boss dead as a party was starting? This week we watched Weekend at Bernie's, hope you enjoy it as we chat about this iconic 80's comedy. Fresh off the release of his new film Beast Mode with C Thomas Howell, James Duval joins us this week as our celebrity guest judge to determine who takes this "week" experience! James has been in some great movies over the years like Independence Day, Gone in Sixty Seconds, May, SLC Punk, The Doom Generation; the list goes on and on. Nicest guy in the world and he shows up with the huge creepy bunny head from his character Frank in Donnie Darko to help make sure there is no malfeasance with his selections! What a strategy! The first contestant this week, Joe Findlay is back and he brought along the best first week he could find in December 1986 for the journey. Marc James travels back in time to two years before he was born to research the merits of December 1976. And finally, Mancrush is trying to get his game back on track after a few crushing defeats, but will the hand he is dealt from December 1996 be enough? So much fun conversation with James this week! After the show ended, the conversation didn't! So James might be back sooner than later. But in this particular episode, you may hear something about ninja fetish, Amy Brenneman defeats electricity, Tommy Lee Jones thinks he's Erik Estrada, the magic of movies, Sinbad wasn't a genie, Captain Steven Hiller perishes and brings a franchise down with him, a movie that sounds like it's about prostitutes, James dad brought him to strange flicks as a child, Mancrush's Dad needs to check his email, Sleestak is for the children, AAAAAY sit on it, a competitor emerges but did anyone buy it, Mancrush dials up an expert for his take, an odorous music selection leaves a bad taste in your mouth, the ultimate reason to fight, boring politics, a landmark ruling, flying swine, life feels like a sci-fi movie, Beast Mode's connection to Bernie Lomax, break out the paddles and slap some balls, Jimmy's new projects, and just what is it like to work with Randy Quaid?? Just what is it about 70s movies that drives Jer up the wall? And how much does Bart rib him for it? And where did Lowell see Bernie Lomax? These questions get answered here and now.
This week, we are taking a trip back to a time when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, or more or less the films of the world. No we are not talking about Jurassic Park, we are talking about 1994's Tammy and The T Rex. The absolute best movie about a mad scientist played by Bernie Lomax from Weekend at Bernie's who transplants Paul Walker's brain into a mechanical dinosaur. Did I mention that this mechanical dinosaur is also in love with a pre-Wild Things/Starship Troopers Denise Richards? This movie is absolute bananas so strap in for an absolute bananas review of the cult classic, Tammy and the T Rex. So the last few movies had some pretty high body counts (Samurai Cop 2, Sudden Impact, and Death Wish 3), so it's only fitting our next sequel is one where a dead body is the star (cough Bernie Lomax cough). Weekend at Bernie's 2 has so much going on that we brought back Gina (Karate Kid Part III guest) to help us sort it all out. Of course, we talked voodoo, a few plot holes(maybe more), Larry's insanity, henchman turning into goats slowly, the Bernie dance, and so much more. We hope this tropical setting will help you escape a little. We're kicking off the summer season with a movie that apparently has something to do with beach volleyball (if the cover art and title is to be believed). So far, though, we've only gotten a bland white dude, an eccentric white dude, and a not-yet-dead Bernie Lomax. But beach volleyball is certainly coming... probably. Part 2 releases this Thursday. Welcome to another installment of Oh! This Podcast. Episode 5 is our John Paxson episode (http://gph.is/2c4TplN).
