We’re less than a week from Christmas, which means it was the perfect time to sneak away with our best buddy and former co-host Sean Jackson for a secret Sunday podcast. Tucked away in Doug’s studio, we popped a few fancy bottles to celebrate Sean’s 50th birthday and caught up with him as much as we could in an hour (it's never enough time). Tune in to hear about Sean’s birthday surprise and, considering the recent news of Rogue’s closure, catch a few of his favorite stories from the Issaquah taproom and even some Dead Guy hat lore. Have a safe and wonderful holiday, y’all. Thank you a million times over for listening to us every week. We’re going to take a couple of weeks off to reset for the new year, but stay tuned for some great upcoming episodes. Much love! Tap, tap, tap Alright, Grit & Grainers! Please email us at cheers@gritandgrainpodcast.com with your comments, opinions, and the Rogue beer you'll miss most. You can subscribe to GGP on YouTube, Amazon, Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play, and iHeartRadio, and please leave us a review. Be sure to also follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. If this podcast is not what you expected, please alter your expectations. No such thing as a bad time to visit Tacoma. No such thing as too much barleywine. Tune in next Friday for more sweet chatter. Cheers! The post Episode 171: Pre-Christmas Special with Sean Jackson appeared first on Grit & Grain Podcast.
Some shows are just a pile of shiny stuff passing over the electrodes in the hosts' brains, and this one's some of that: a rant about how much damage your pressure washer is causing (your cars and your homes), the things living in the woods and what you're doing to be prepared for them (bears in Japan, more bears in Europe, wolves in Colorado, and rioters in your front yard), Vanagons, Synchros, Dude Food, the lethal levels of fail in statist electric car manufacturing and ownership (and the lethal levels of stupid in their owners' brains), and some pretty-far-into-the-Dead-Guy-ales history of the sinking of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald (notwithstanding his confusion of Lake Michigan with Lake Superior...). On top of all that goodness, there's a fine assortment of surf guitar from the Los Straitjackets and the Torquays (though we forgot the Professors and Dick Dale).

The third full-length film from director Na Hong-jin, The Wailing (also known as Gokseong) is a story of possession in a rural Korean village that hits home for a local policeman. Join Juliet and Theresa to talk about this long but worth it film, its use of humor to build a main character and the way different horror film cultures portray the relationship between magic and religion.CW/TW: none for this episodeBuy us a coffee!Become a Patron!Theme music: "Book of Shadows" by Houseghost (Rad Girlfriend Records) Hosted on Acast. I have to be honest, having Steve Austin on as a guest was a bucket list item for me. I have been a Today is the Day fan for decades, having discovered them on Clusterfuck, the three-way split with Chokebore and Guzzard that Amphetamine Reptile released way back in 1994. I was hooked; I thought Today is the Day was the future of music, combined all of the angst, aggression, frustration and energy of metal and punk but with a undefinable uniqueness that defined a whole legion of bands including Deadguy, Kiss It Goodbye and their imitators. NEVER GIVE IN is the new release, marking another step forward in the evolution of this iconic musical beat. It's a true honor to have Steve on Everything Went Black. Intro: “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “The Choice is Yours” – Today is the Day

Dead Guy in the Envelope, Rochelle needs to toughen up, Robby couldn't get in the car + What's the fastest way to mess up your life without dying?
No one knows how to write TV shows OR songs anymore, apparently. (Lucky us) We're up to two white male protagonists in a new Star Wars movie?! The earth might spin off its axis!! I saw that new movie “Weapons” and have many thoughts, then Bokes, Mrs. Bokes, and I travel to Las Vegas to hang out with Billy Biohazard at the Punk Rock Museum. It was a glorious occasion that I spend way too much time talking about. (Can you believe it?) Finally, the eternal Los Angeles conundrum: “Rats or Mexicans?”

Keith Huckins of Deadguy / Kiss It Goodbye / Rorschach joins us this week. Eith has been a huge influence on me as a guitarist dating all the way back to his work with the seminal metallic hardcore band Rorschach. At that particular time, no one was doing anything like that and he continued his work with Deadguy in the mid-90's. Fast forward over two decades and Deadguy has now deployed their new album Near Death Travel Services available from Relapse Records. Intro: “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “Kill Fee” – Deadguy

The breaking news of one of the biggest sports stories of the entire summer interrupted an entertaining storytelling session about beer and how picky people are about their beer.Aaron Rodgers reportedly plans to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Will he be any good? Will they be any good.We could ask the same thing about Chase Mason as a first-time starting quarterback for South Dakota State, but Sioux Falls Live sportswriter Matt Zimmer's long chat — and long, in-depth Sioux Falls Live story — suggest the former Huskers baseball pitcher is ready to light up the FCS.Plus, how much will the Twins suffer from Pablo Lopez's injury, what do we make of (and how much do we care about) major college football events like Utah Valley leaving the FCS (domino effect leading to MVFC expansion?) and the House Settlement involving revenue sharing?Plus, our Dead Guy of the Week and a Dead Gal of the Week!
I'm back. Maybe. The sad truth about the animal crossing bridge on the 101. Starbucks probably got rid of their brownie, because it was my favorite treat from there, and anything that I like in this life will be systematically taken away from. (Like TGI Fridays) The two-cookie conundrum. Restaurant workers that don't put utensils in their Doordash orders should literally be dragged to hell. I put up 265, no sweat! The untapped potential of Cyril Rampahosa. You thought “Diddy parties” were rough, wait til you hear about Hussein parties! Deadguy is still bringin it.
From May 14 (sorry for the delay):Is Diet Coke the "worst-tasting thing in the world?" Is it acceptable to wear pajamas in public, let alone sweatpants? Is our "Dead Guy of the Week" — a B-list Twins legend — someone that passes Matt Zimmer's fame test?As they do every week at Gateway Lounge, John Gaskins and Zim solve all the world's problems and mysteries in this Mid-May version of "Nobody's Listening Anyway."There's even plenty of local and regional sports to discuss:Does SDSU or USD have more potent quarterback/offensive line combo? In what way are SDSU and USD trying to become the Iowa of the FCS?What sneaky-big addition did USD hoops just make? Are the Twins worth watching again now that they're on fire? How impressive should the Canaries be this year?Is it better to buy cheap nosebleeds or second-mortgage prime seats at major league pro sporting events?Should Chris Finch take just a little heat for the way the Wolves have underachieved in the playoffs? Is it insane to consider the way the Wolves have played "underachieving? You may or may not be smarter after hearing this. But you'll definitely feel better after a laugh or five.
Shane and Mikey do the news, and begin to suspect they've somehow fallen into the past, circa 2002. One thing is for certain: time is a flat circle, no one dies, and everyone lives for fucking ever.On this week's Right Profile:GuiltlessKnelt Check Us Out:PatreonSixth and Center PublishingMusical Attribution:Licensed through NEOSounds.“5 O'Clock Shadow,” “America On the Move,” “Baby You Miss Me,” “Big Fat Gypsy,” “Bubble Up,” “C'est Chaud,” “East River Blues,” “The Gold Rush,” “Gypsy Fiddle Jazz,” “Here Comes That Jazz,” “I Wish I Could Charleston,” “I Told You,” “It Feels Like Love To Me,” “Little Tramp,” “Mornington Crescent,” “No Takeaways.”
White Men Can't Jump was the pinnacle of positive black/white relations in the United States. Fuck Robert Rodriguez and his can-do attitude. I spent the afternoon with a BIG MOVIE STAR, and got 3rddegree burns on my tongue from a fish taco. (Possibly)
