Hosted by Maddy and Corey, we discuss weekly/bi-weekly all the many fascinating aspects of Horror and Halloween. Film, books, art, you name it!
In this episode, Corey breaks down the good and the bad of the first 3 'Insidious' films, Maddy talks about 'Sinister' and Corey can't resist mentioning that questionable sequel as well.
In this 100th episode special - - we've finally done it. We've watched and evaluated the film you've all been waiting for, 'Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating Subhumanoid Zombified Living Dead'. We also touch on the much lesser known piece 'Night of the Living Dead' and dinner staple 'Night of the Living Bread'. Join us as Maddy begins to regret ever allowing Corey to pick a movie.
Do you like Bauhaus? Do you like New York? Do you like crippling alcoholism and the inevitable crushing depression of death creeping up behind you while you watch yourself aging by the second? Then do we have the episode for you! This week, Corey and Maddy explore two unusual vampire classics, Larry Fessenden's first major feature 'Habit, and the ode to Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie's new wave gothic beauty, 'The Hunger'.
This week, only a few months late, we explore the works of Stephen McHattie and Bruce McDonald, a dark speaking horror flick, "Pontypool", and what may or may not be a spiritual sequel, "Dreamland".
Taking a shortcut to movies we just felt like watching, we took a bit of a break this week and only mildly regretted our choices. In this episode, Corey and Maddy discuss the Weird Al masterpiece, 'UHF' and the Seth Green's magnum opus, 'Can't Hardly Wait'.
This week we explore the delightful world of childhood best friends, from robot girls next door to - - robots in costumes, to nothing else because we're only reviewing two movies. First is Wes Craven's cult classic 'Deadly Friend' and the long awaited gritty adaptation of 'Banana Splits' none of us realized we were waiting for.
Starting off the New Year with some metal and mayhem. A good cop goes bionic in the 1980s satirical sci-fi classic, Robocop, while Soviet soldiers head to Germany during World War 2 to discover the true limits of medicine and madness in Frankenstein's Army.
Only four weeks behind, Found Footage-Tober finally meets its end with the mother of all found footage films: Blair Witch, and her sister sequels. Viral marketing, shaky cameras, creepy forests. Everything you need for a low budget masterpiece.
As October stretches into November, we continue our found footage journey with a couple of favorites, 'Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon', and 'WNUF Halloween Special'. This is also a horror pack featured episode.
At absolutely the last minute and into November, we've finally done it. We've begun releasing our 'Found Footage-Tober' event. Three episodes in which we discuss iconic and otherwise found footage films. This week we tackle 'Ghostwatch' and 'Host'.
These are dark times. Corey and Maddy have dived into the pits of depravity that horror has to offer, films so heinous that they were callously disowned by the monsters who created them. This week we discuss 'Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh' and 'Raging Angels'
I think we all know sequels are 100% better 100% of the time than the movies before them. Who can forget the groundbreaking cinematography of Nightmare on Elm Street 2, the pathos of LL Cool J in Halloween H2O, or the sheer talent of Tommy Wiseau in the long anticipated follow up to Samurai Cop, Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance? So it only made sense for Maddy and Corey to finally approach the Fright Night 2 and House 2 Legacies, because after all - - they're, um, I guess they're both great.
As 2020 oozes a few months closer to its end, we're just struggling not to dissolve in our desk chairs as we review two classics of the melt movie sub-genre, 1987's 'Street Trash', and 1988's 'Slime City': schlocky, gross, and surprisingly colorful. Just--try not to eat anything while you watch them, and definitely don't touch that bottle in the back of the cupboard. You never know what could be inside...
This week we're going to take it easy and just chat a bit about weird music videos and sequences in cheesy horror movies. From Fish Heads to vampire Jim Carrey, it's all a little strange.
While we're all stuck inside, it's absolutely imperative that you avoid any unnameable colors emitted from intergalactic meteorites, and under no circumstances should you have contact with your fish-like neighbors. To pass the time, why don't you listen to this week's episode of us discussing 'Dagon' and 'Color out of Space'?
This isn't your grandma's disaster movie episode. Only half of it is. The other half is either your mom's or your disaster movie episode - - probably. This week Corey and Maddy discuss the original 'Poseidon Adventure' and 'Armageddon'. Yeah, that movie we all forget Owen Wilson was in.
No stale movie treats here. The popcorn is fresh, and I, a madman am ready to bring you the latest episode of Hallow-Holics Anonymous, in which I make a poor attempt to reference the films we discuss this week, 'Popcorn' and 'I, Madman', a trip down memory lane about b movie horror and cheesy pulp novels.
In this week's (and maybe month's) episode we discuss two very different movies released the same year with very similar titles and one of the same lead actors, Final Girl, and The Final Girls. We also talk about the latest Horror Pack and plans for the new 'season'.
With our unofficial season premiere, we delve into the joys of tv in the last decade of horror. No, there's no 'top 10' here, folks, just a random assortment, because as you well know - - neither Corey nor Maddy can count.
In this our final episode of season 3, we reflect on the last decade and the horrific (but amazing) films it brought us, and then we dive right into our final gift-pisode. 'Vampires in Havana' and 'Iron Sky', two movies with absolutely nothing in common are the subject of this season finale.
Christmas has gone and went, and while we recorded this special episode on boxing day, we were delighted to discuss the only virgin slasher 'Cherry Falls' and accompanying bizarre tongue terror, 'Killer Tongue'.
Just shy of Christmas, our second gift of the holiday season - - Maddy and Corey ineptly bring you the beginning of their charming Christmas songwriting, and discuss the wonders and merriment of 'Mister Frost' as well as 'Thale'.
Just click your heels together, my dear, and say 'there's not podcast like this' three times, and you'll find your way home. In the first of our 'Christmas gift exchange' episodes, Corey reviews girl power witch epic 'Practical Magic', while Maddy explores the demented psyche of an evil ancient coven in 'Lords of Salem'.
It isn't easy house-training a house-pet; especially when you know they're smarter than you. In this episode we tackle the challenges of caring for monkeys and dogs, whilst simultaneously dodging evil government projects and Michael Ironsides. With a quick chat about November's 'Horror Pack', we also explore the enigma of 'Monkey Shines' and 'Watchers'.
A cup of coffee, a pack of stale cigarettes, and a run-down diner. That's all you need when you're hanging out with Corey and Maddy tonight as they discuss some of Jim Jaramusch's latest classics, including 'Only Lovers Left Alive' and 'The Dead Don't Die'. Maybe when it's all over Tom Waits will finally know the answer to the question--what's he building in there?
Grab your rune stones, hide the satanic grimoire pages from Satan, it's time for a Warlock retrospective! In this episode, we discuss the brilliance that is Julian Sands, alongside Warlock 1 and 2 - - and yes, even part 3.
Kids. Can't live with them. Can't--I don't know, perform some weird satanic ritual without getting an HOA complaint these days. Thank god for babysitters, right? The good. The bad. It doesn't really matter as long as you have one this Saturday night. Join Maddy and Corey this week as we discuss the creepy tension and loving 80s send-up of 'The House of the Devil', and a somehow more light-hearted murderous adventure in 'The Babysitter'.
They say that breaking up is hard to do. Who says it? I don't know, people in the 60s, Neil Sadaka, The Carpenters. The point is, this episode is all about the inevitable heartbreak and murder that happens every time a relationship ends. We discuss the pitfalls of allowing Glenn Close to be sexy in 'Fatal Attraction' and the unfortunate love of a girl and some hands in 'May'.
The month is winding down, Rocktober's candle in the wind is fading in its rotten Jack-o-Lantern, and we've got one last guitar solo - - Todd and the Book of Pure Evil, the series, and the movie, 'The End of the End'. Happy Halloween, kids.
This week we're bringing you three metal horror movies and featuring a special guest, James from the Popcultnet podcast! Will Corey and Maddy finally escape the clutches of Coyote Guy Jake? No! But they will talk about 'Zombie Nightmare', 'Rocktober Blood' and 'Slaughterhouse Rock'! It's a week of zombies, slashers, and ghosts with sweet dance moves this week on Hallow-Holics Anonymous!
Rocking back at you with our second course of Rocktober, this week Maddy and Corey are still trapped by a demented Radio jockey in his studio - - and this time, rock is the villain in 'Black Roses' from 1988, as well as the epic rock opera 'Phantom of the Paradise' from 1974.
Corey and Maddy are trapped in a demented radio DJ's lair/studio, and they want you to know just how epic this Rocktober month is going to be. Starting now and ending at '???', but probably right around Halloween, it's all rock horror all month. This episode features the dubious sweaty rock nightmare 'Rock n Roll Nightmare' featuring John Mikl Thor, and the trippy Japanese punk epic 'Wild Zero' featuring Guitar Wolf. Also featuring a short comedic ad performed by James of the Pop Cult Net podcast.
Getting warmed up for Rock-tober, Corey and Maddy discuss random horror adjacent topics today, including Youtube epic 'The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inneficient Weapon' and accompanying 'Ginosaji' series, alongside some fun fan films and music videos.
Whether you're defending a crystal that embodies all things good from Dracula, the Wolfman, Gillman, and the Mummy, making friends with Frankenstein's monster, or fighting miniature versions of all of them while a mad scientist tears a hole through reality - the Hallow-Holics are here to coach you through it. This week we discuss the 80s kids horror classic 'Monster Squad' and the 90s trashic 'Creeps'.
Now hear me out. I know you've got a grudge spirit living in your bathroom, and yes maybe I'll admit it's super annoying to have hair pouring out of the spouts every time you try to wash dishes in your kitchen or turn the sprinklers on. Maybe this episode will help distract you in which we discuss the wonders of Maddy's trip to Japan, the epic classic love story to teen drama 'Akira' and a video game/film/anime powerhouse of violence called 'Corpse Party'.
I think it's time we address a serious problem. Women. The life-sucking alien monsters that know nothing but the desire to destroy mankind, and the poor insane men who innocently kill them to protect the human race. So what if they like wearing pumps and lipstick in the process? In this episode we discuss two iconic films that perfectly encapsulate the red pill movement in all its glory: 'Maniac' and 'Lifeforce'.
Rounding up this, our final journey down the road for biker summer, we decide to explore the two promised beacons of awesome and horrific biker horror 'The Lost Boys' and 'Werewolves on Wheels', with an additional bonus film for no good reason other than the fact that Buddy Holly is a god, 'Six String Samurai'. Corey also discusses his latest horror pack, and Maddy gets a little off topic preaching about Lost Boys fan fiction.
What could be more magical than touring the wild roads of America, riding as free as the wind and huffing horse like there's no tomorrow? I think we can all agree that we gotta be free, man. So grab your chopper, grab your girl, grab your best huffing rag, and enjoy the view with this episode's horror pack, 'Wild Angels' and 'Hell Ride'
It's time to hit the road this summer. Feel the wind in your hair. Get into a fist fight with a couple of toughs with your girlfriend at your side singing rock ballads just before you drive off a cliff and return from the dead. Or you could just join Corey and Maddy as they discuss infamous biker films 'Psychomania' and 'Streets of Fire' in the first of two biker movie episodes this summer.
There is nothing I love more than a mint julep, a warm summer night, and a pretentious theatre troupe digging up the dead. Why, I do declare it is the most lovely evening one can imagine. So why don't we just all relax upon the back patio and enjoy ourselves a long, slow review with Corey and Maddy of the 1972 cult classics 'Dear Dead Delilah' and 'Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things'?
Corruption and violence stalk the streets of New York, and only one undead but sometimes living man can deliver justice equally to the good and the bad, indiscriminately killing each and every one of them who stand in his way. In this episode, we discuss just how far that Maniac Cop will go in our Maniac Cop trilogy retrospective.
I don't want to be buried--ever, I want to live forever, but this isn't about my issues. It's about our issues with the new Pet Sematary. It's also about the original. In this episode Corey and Maddy compare the two. The good. The bad. The dead and ugly.
Summer is coming. I think we all know what that means--vacations. Whether it's to a mundane motel on a stretch of beach far from civilization, a run-down mental hospital in Romania, or a charming Irish castle packed to the brim with cranky ghosts, everybody needs to unwind. This week, that's just what Corey and Maddy do as they discuss the latest horror pack, 'High Spirits' and 'Transylvania 6-5000'.
All around the world, it's the same song - - weddings and honeymoons are nothing but trouble. Don't take it from us, take it from Gene Wilder and Chevy Chase. They only ever end up in zany mayhem, mutant babies, and crazy capers with werewolves and drunken butlers. Join us in this episode as we discuss 'Haunted Honeymoon' and 'Nothing but Trouble'. Also, help us bid good-bye to Coffin Box one last time.
I hope you've got a license to drive. Don't want to get lost, boys. After all, you can't kill gremlins or goonies with a silver bullet. Now that we've got all the references to movies we're not talking about out of the way, this is our belated April Fools special in which Corey finally gets his way, the horror is shoved in the closet for a moment, and we discuss Dream a Little Dream 1 and 2.
School is back in session. I've always wanted to say that. With the Spring semester heating up, it's time to go back to a simpler time for all of you ex-high schoolers out there, and a miserable torture session for the current high schoolers. In this episode Corey's got a new horror pack, and we discuss the heartwarming classics 'Final Exam' and 'Return to Horror High'.
Keep your scalpels handy, the Hallow-Holics are back for yet another stab-tastic episode. Don't you just hate when you have to get your face replaced? What about when you're reduced to just a pretty stump in a flower box? In this episode, we explore two movies that show you just how to handle those tricky situations with the 1960 French classic 'Eyes Without a Face' and Crispin--I mean Julian Sand's brilliant romantic comedy 'Boxing Helena'
Art is [obligatory avant garde pose] SUBJECTIVE. Velvet Buzzsaw, however, was terrible. Journey with us into the art world as we explore this, Bucket of Blood, Corey's monthly horror pack, and the pretentious critics within us all.
No movies today folks, just some good old traumatizing monster history and ghostly discussion. Iceland, the Phillipines, China, England--we're traveling the world and hoping if we're lucky Spring-Heeled Jack won't catch up to us.
In this, our first 'Valentine's Day' special, we celebrate a day dedicated to love. Love of Scott Valentine. Deadtime Stories and The Unborn 2 feature in this episode, reminding us that it's the dosage that makes the poison - - and both movies are sadly very lacking in the recommended daily dosage of Scott Valentine.
Can you honestly say you've never been to a truck stop bathroom that struck fear into your heart? Or spoke to a gas station attendant you were absolutely convinced had somehow signed a pact with the old gods to ensure his prices were always higher than the next closest station 20 miles down the road? This episode examines how evil those institutions are when we examine Retro-Active and Splinter. No shirts. No shoes. No service!
