David Forsyth addresses the real dangers associated with growing up Christian in a believing home. While tremendous blessings accompany a Christian upbringing, children growing up in a Christian environment face the peril of mistaking conformity for genuine conversion. The sermon explores Romans 2:1-29, revealing three critical dangers for those growing up Christian: external morality without heart transformation, Bible knowledge that remains intellectual rather than life-changing, and religious ritual divorced from spiritual reality.Growing up Christian does not guarantee salvation, as Paul's indictment of first-century Jews demonstrates that morality, religious knowledge, and ritual observance are insufficient for right standing before God. Children growing up Christian may appear squeaky clean externally while remaining spiritually dead inside. The message emphasizes that growing up Christian requires more than external conformity—it demands genuine faith in Christ that transforms the heart. Just as Jewish people relied erroneously on their heritage and rituals, children growing up Christian risk trusting in their moral behavior, biblical literacy, and church participation rather than embracing Christ personally. The sermon concludes with a passionate call for those growing up in the Christian faith to move beyond externals and embrace the righteousness that comes only through faith in Jesus Christ. ★ Support this podcast ★
Have you ever been super impressed by someone's knowledge of the Bible? I have. I've met some very knowledgeable Bible teachers. Obviously, knowing the Bible is a good thing. However, we can be severely mistaken if we think Bible knowledge equates to spiritual maturity. It doesn't.Nor does additional Bible knowledge assure that we will become mature in Christ.Maturity doesn't come through knowledge of God's word; it comes through obedience to God's word.Join me for Today's Daily Word & Prayer to learn more.Scripture Used in Today's Message2 Peter 1:5-71 Corinthians 8:1James 1:22If you've not read my book, Takin' it to Their Turf. request a copy on my website, www.CampusAmerica.com.You'll be inspired, encouraged, and learn plenty about evangelism and spiritual warfare through the 70+ stories I share of my campus evangelism experiences. We send a copy to anyone who donates to our ministry, but if you can't do so, simply request a copy by sending us an email. The Christian life starts with faith in Jesus. From there, we must grow in the knowledge of God's word and God's ways. However, Peter provides us with a crucial step necessary to gain true knowledge: moral excellence. This step cannot be neglected. The Bible is a spiritual book, and God must reveal His true knowledge to us. Moral excellence springing from faith is an essential foundation for gaining that knowledge.Join me for Today's Daily Word & Prayer to learn more.Scripture Used in Today's Message2 Peter 1:2-4James 1:211 Peter 2:1-2Philippians 4:81 Peter 2:9If you've not read my book, Takin' it to Their Turf. request a copy on my website, www.CampusAmerica.com.You'll be inspired, encouraged, and learn plenty about evangelism and spiritual warfare through the 70+ stories I share of my campus evangelism experiences. We send a copy to anyone who donates to our ministry, but if you can't do so, simply request a copy by sending us an email. We can read it in printed book form, digitally on our computers, phones, tablets, etc. We even have apps that will read it to us. But just because we have all this access in these various forms and ways, it doesn't mean that people are actually reading the Bible and understanding it. Based on the current state of evangelical churches and numerous studies and polls, access to the Bible appears to have outpaced Christians reading it and growing in biblical knowledge. Biblical literacy has fallen by the wayside and is suffering greatly. Biblical literacy involves a deep awareness of the meaning of what's in the Bible. It's not just knowing its contents and facts, but the ability to read and understand the Bible rightly from Genesis to Revelation, able to explain what holds it together from beginning to end – what is the grand narrative. Many Christians who have gone to church their whole lives don't have a solid grounding in the Scriptures. That lack of knowledge is now being passed down from generation to generation. Why is this so important, and what can we do about it? How can we actively encourage good Bible literacy? This week on the Straight Truth Podcast, Dr. Philpot asks Dr. Richard Caldwell if he would recommend some strategies or principles for Christians that will improve their biblical literacy. He also asks how parents can best help their children, teens, and young adults with this issue. Dr. Caldwell says the importance of it is easy to demonstrate. The Scriptures themselves exhort us to know the Scriptures. The example of our Savior exhorts us to know the Scriptures. We see this modeled throughout the entirety of His life. Even the New Testament itself is a model of the knowledge of Scripture because so much of the New Testament Scriptures references the Old Testament; we see how the writers model their mastery of the Scriptures. So then,
