A new survey conducted by the Connecticut Education Association, Connecticut largest teachers' union, shows 90% of student teachers in Connecticut are deeply concerned about affording groceries and other necessities, and more than 80% say unpaid student teaching makes them feel exploited. That's why there's a renewed call for paid student teaching in Connecticut. To talk more about this, we spoke with Hannah Spinner, a graduate student at UConn pursuing a teaching career. It's called wage theft and, in many cases, workers aren't getting paid even after the province officially orders their employers to do so. Less than a quarter of the money sent to Ontario's Ministry of Finance for collection has actually been recovered, leaving tens of thousands of workers still out of pocket. In this episode, we speak with Toronto Star reporter Ghada Alsharif about her latest three-part investigation into Ontario's growing wage theft crisis, and how the province's weak enforcement system is allowing employers to avoid accountability, from shell companies to disappearing franchises. I was practicing total surrender, and I gotta tell you, it was a leap of faith, but then something interesting happened. Two podcasters published interviews I gave, and I realized something. I truly love sharing what I've learned in recovery. It really fills my heart with joy. That's why I've been doing the Sobriety Reset series for those who are coming back from another “Day 1”. Also I was invited to partner with OpenRecovery, a free app centered around recovery, to start a new community there. This means I'll be hosting free meetings that will make 12 principals accessible to my fellow skeptics, by providing a path around common obstacles.   I'll leave links in the show notes so you can download the app, and there will be announcements for the launch date.
