If you've been following the hunting politics here in Florida you're more than aware of the fact that we have had some very serious discussions about getting ourselves a bear hunt. We did have a hunt back in 2015 that came close to meeting the quota in just around 2 days subsequently triggering the closure of a scheduled week-long season. That hunt was a publicity nightmare to say the least. We've already had 1 meeting this year that went well for the hunters back in May and now it's time for the final ruling on the bear hunt and to establish a season for later this year. This meeting will be held in Havana Florida on August 13 and hunters need to pack the room. Sadly we won't be able to attend this meeting for our day jobs but you can guarantee I'll be tuned in to the Florida channel and following along. Fingers crossed things will go as we discussed them in this show and science and conservation will win out over emotion.UPO Gear & Such- https://uponation.co/ UPO Social Media- https://linktr.ee/underpressureoutdoorsHazmore Outdoor Products- https://hazmore.net/Use Code UPO15 at checkout for 15% off your next order!HangFree- https://hangfree.co/ Use code UPO10 at checkout for 10% off your next order!Water Feather Boats- https://waterfeathers.com/ Find a Dealer Near YouBecome a Patron- https://www.patreon.com/user?u=45295718

This week, we're joined by George Warthen and Morgan Richardson of the Florida Wildlife Commission. They discuss how the scientific management of black bears now requires the addition of hunting as a tool to take the next step in conserving the resource. It's a frank conversation about how things were, how they are now, and what needs to happen for the state to manage its rapidly growing bear population. With a vote approaching, these gentlemen explain the need to reinstate hunting as a management strategy. It's a fascinating discussion and a great example of an agency relying on sound science and trained biologists to support their state's wildlife. Listen, Learn and Enjoy. What is the ultimate all-around bear gun? Is there a gun and cartridge that will handle all bears, in all situations? Whether hunting cross-canyon blacks in Montana or baited bruisers in Alberta, or coastal brown bears or interior grizzlies in Alaska? How about personal protection while hiking or fishing in bear-infested country? We think there is such a rifle, and it's even sorta affordable. Ruger's M77 Guide Gun has all the features a savvy bear hunter wants: controlled-feed action, compact size, powerful chamberings, backup sights, stainless construction, and so on. M77 Guide Guns are decent right from the box. With just a few upgraded parts and DIY tuning, they become outstanding. Alaska Arms owner and proprieter Morris Melani—who is a bear-hunting fanatic and custom gunsmith—joins us this episode to discuss how to set up and DIY-tune the ultimate all-purpose bear gun. This was a wonderful conversation, sprinkled with plenty of hair-raising real-life bear stories. ENJOY! FRIENDS! Kodiak Island Alaska - a coveted hunting location by many. This week's guest, Kyler Berges set a goal to check one off the bucket list when he began preparing for his first ever Brown Bear hunt. He worked hard preparing as much as possible when it came to his gear, his physical condition and his mental state. He knew it would be the most challenging hunt he's ever been on, but to a certain extent nothing can truly prepare you for an experience like this outside of actually doing it. Kyle takes us from start to finish through this episode, starting with his preparation going into it, followed by the reality of the Kodiak Island he found himself on. Nearly 2 weeks, 4 different stalks on brown bears, and day after day on their feet running and gunning, this trip puts Kyle to the extreme test. Tune in for an incredible adventure, including one situation that some may argue is a little too close for comfort.Fall Obsession Podcast is sponsored by:Hoot Camo Company (https://hootcamo.com/)Bear River Archery (https://www.bearriverarchery.com/)Trophy Edits (https://trophyedits.com/?ref=fallobsession)Ridge Rock Hunt Company (https://ridgerockhuntcompany.com/)The Outdoor Call Radio App (https://www.theoutdoorcallradio.com/)

On a backpack hunt, what you don't take is as important as what you do. Every item comes with consequence. Bring it and you have it — along with the weight penalty it bears. Don't bring it and go without something you may need. Mark Boardman and Ryan Muckenhirn chat through items left behind on Mark's alpine bear hunt, whether it was the right call, and the aggregate weight he saved. As always, we want to hear your feedback! This week on the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast, John talks about his recent adventure of trying to find the elusive Oklahoma black bear. The trip started off promising, and John was able to find some bear sign way up a remote river. The trip took a turn however when John hit a submerged object on the way back to the boat ramp that rendered his propeller essentially worthless. After hunting on his private land spot in the morning and stealing a propeller of an old jon boat, he was back in action for the evening. John also talks a little bit about the upcoming cold snap and some new bucks that have shown up ahead of it. It is looking the things may work out great for the upcoming youth weekend! I'm here with Mr. Phoenix Shooting Bags himself, Anthony Stallone. He's prepping for an upcoming hunt that I'm unfortunately not attending, but he runs through his plans and what he's got on deck. Anthony drew a strip tag for archery hunting deer in AZ, which is pretty much the golden goose. Then, we dive into the Cliff Notes version of my latest bear hunt. Some pretty scary stuff happened on the hunt, including a frantic call my wife made to Anthony, and I recap it all here. I drew a tag in San Carlos and talked about the process and the tribal guide service I used for hunting on the reservation. There was something really eerie about the area, and we were super far from civilization. Although it was stressful and challenging at times, the hunt was also full of a lot of cool experiences. We wrap up our conversation with a little chat about my gripes with social media and keyboard warriors. It's always a few people who ruin it for everyone. I almost didn't post this episode because of the criticism I received but I realized that a lot gets lost in translation of a caption so maybe after a few people hear the story they will have a little more compassion for the situation. I felt terrible for my mistakes and is the main reason I put myself on blast when I posted about it. Either way I made the decision to share the episode. If you want an awesome bear recipe check out my latest blog post.
