In his first game back at Acrisure Arena since helping guide the Coachella Valley Firebirds (11-8-1-3) to back-to-back Calder Cup Finals, San Jose Barracuda (15-6-0-1) forward Andrew Poturalski scored with under two minutes to go in regulation to tie the game on Thursday night and then won it in the second round of a shootout to complete the 4-3 victory. The Barracuda finished the game with a season-high 54 shots and have now picked up points in seven in a row (6-0-0-1) and have won their last three. Ethan Cardwell led the way with 10 shots on net as the Barracuda improved to 4-0 against the Firebirds.

Jimmy Schuldt just got done playing the longest hockey season of his career. The 28-year-old former St. Cloud State defenseman from Minnetonka played his last game on June 21. Game 7 of the Calder Cup Finals was the 97th game of the season for Schuldt, who played for the Coachella Valley Firebirds. It was quite a season for the Firebirds, the AHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken. The Firebirds are located in Thousand Palms, Calif., which is about a 25-minute drive from Palm Springs. It was the first season for the Firebirds, who began the season playing home games in Seattle. Schuldt ended up having the best season of his pro career with 32 points and finishing tied for 13th in the AHL in plus/minus (plus-22) in 71 regular season games. He was recently named one of the AHL West's top defensive defensemen and signed a two-way contract with Seattle on Saturday. But with that long season, Schuldt had to miss some big events for friends and family. His older brother, Joe, got married on the same day as Game 5 of the Calder Cup Finals. Former SCSU teammate Kevin Fitzgerald and former SCSU equipment manager Jeremiah Minkel both also had weddings that Schuldt had to miss due to hockey. This will be Hershey's 24th Calder Cup Finals appearance and their first time back in the finals since 2016, when it was swept by the Cleveland Monsters. The Bears won back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010 and have the most tiles in AHL history (11). Later they talk about Ethen Frank and his dip in production in the Calder Cup playoffs. According to Nova Caps: "Washington Capitals forward prospect Ethen Frank had an eye-popping regular season, posting 30 goals and 19 assists in just 57 games played. His performance during the 2022-23 season ultimately garnered him an NHL contract with the Capitals beginning next season. But Frank has been a no-show in the postseason, posting no goals and just two assists in 10 playoff games. Frank's shot production is also way down. During the regular season he averaged 3.3 shots per game for a 16.1% success rate.
