He grew up on a horse ranch in a small town outside of Manitoba, Canada. Rick Berry thought it was perfectly normal that his family had over 200 pure bred Belgian horses and when those horses urinated, it was collected (by Rick and his brother) for the Premarin in the urine and sold to pharmaceutical companies. He later found out that wasn't so normal. What was normal for Rick: having a pond nearby and playing hockey. A lot of hockey. When he was 16, he left Canada and went to Seattle to live with a host family and started junior hockey. In 1997, the Colorado Avalanche, who had just moved from Quebec to Denver, selected Rick in the 3rd round of the NHL Entry Draft. He played with the Hershey Bears for a few years and eventually made it to the Denver where his Avs debut came in the 2000-2001 season. He stuck around for another season in Denver and then was traded to the Penguins in 2002. From there the rollercoaster started between NHL teams, affiliates and a stint in Germany. After his time in Germany, and with two young girls at that point, Rick decided to retire. He and his wife made Denver their home, added a third girl and Rick went into the financial advisory industry. He enjoys his work, being a girl dad and staying involved with the Colorado Avalanche Alumni Association. Listen to Rick's story and conversation with Susie Wargin on the Cut Traded Fired Retired Podcast.

Nelson and the Bears are coming off back-to-back Calder Cup championships and looking to add a third consectuvie this season. Listen as he shares why creating a family atmosphere is key to team culture, why you need to have a purpose to every drill, and why winning is the best form of development.

Listen as he shares why good skill development is about knowing when to slow things down, why hockey is just a series of patterns, and what core skills kids are missing out on in the current state of player development.

Locked On Capitals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Capitals
On today's show Corey Swartz of HBH nation and Richard Blosser from the grit and bear it podcast join Dan on the show to talk Bears hockey The Hershey Bears came out strong in game one against the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms, defeating them by a score of 2-1. Despite being outshot 31-28, the Bears were able to capitalize on their opportunities. Rookie Hendrix Lapierre opened the scoring, assisted by Chase Priskie and Ethen Frank. Henrik Rybinski followed up with a second period goal thanks to helpers from Matt Strome and Bogdan Trineyev. Goaltender Hunter Shepard was the hero, making 30 saves and shutting down the Phantoms' attack. Head coach Todd Nelson acknowledged it was a grind, with the Phantoms giving them all they could handle and the game nearly going to overtime. With key contributors like Riley Sutter and Vinnie Iorio out with injuries, the Bears relied on their depth and experience to slam the door. Young guns Lapierre and Connor McMichael provided a boost upon returning from the Capitals' roster. Looking ahead to Game 2, the Bears will need to bring their best to avoid falling into a 1-1 series tie. They'll need to dictate play early, cash in on scoring chances, and get continued brilliant goaltending from Shepard. The Phantoms will be hungry to even the series on home ice, so the Bears must match their desperation from the opening puck drop. If Hershey brings the same work ethic and capitalizes on opportunities, they should be able to head home up 2-0. But they can't let up for a minute against the always dangerous Phantoms.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Monopoly GO!Get in the game and join your friends.
