So here's the thing. I know I talk a lot about reading. It's pretty important to me. But all week I've been trying to prepare a different podcast, one NOT about the uncrackable justification for choice reading. But recently I heard from several teachers over in CHSE about thriving reading programs they had going, only to get shut down by folks who felt like reading in class was a waste of time. And then I kind of ended up in a rabbit hole, as I am wont to do. It's like researching the justification for choice reading became my guilty pleasure, sucking up all my time. I listened to audiobooks on my walks, pored over research roundups and articles at the coffee shop, hit up the hammock with my Penny Kittle, and stared and stared and stared at the growing evidence mounting in my endless Google doc of notes. The evidence is clear. The need for help for kids who don't read, don't like reading, and don't want to read is great. And yet STILL we are prioritizing reading snippets and drilling for tests to "improve" our readers' reading. I want you to have the information you need to fight. So here I am. Again. Despite my efforts to focus on something else this week. Let's dig deep. Poutine perd ses nerfsAlors que le sommet du G7 s'achève ce mercredi à Évian-les-Bains, les tensions internationales continuent de s'intensifier, du Moyen-Orient jusqu'aux eaux de la Manche. Le président des États-Unis a ainsi menacé de reprendre les bombardements contre l'Iran si celui-ci « ne se comporte pas bien ». Une déclaration qui intervient au lendemain de nouvelles frappes israéliennes dans le sud du Liban, auxquelles l'armée iranienne a promis de répondre de manière « sévère ».Dans le même temps, les dirigeants du G7 ont affiché leur volonté de renforcer la pression sur Moscou afin de mettre un terme à la guerre en Ukraine. Le Royaume-Uni et Donald Trump ont notamment plaidé pour un durcissement des sanctions contre la Russie. Après un entretien avec son homologue ukrainien, le président américain a annoncé le rétablissement de certaines sanctions visant le pétrole russe, suspendues temporairement en raison de la hausse des cours du brut liée au conflit avec l'Iran.Londres a également dévoilé de nouvelles mesures. VOV1 - Thủ tướng Ấn Độ Narendra Modi ngày 13/6 đã lên đường bắt đầu chuyến công du tới Pháp và Slovakia, tham dự nhiều hoạt động ngoại giao và công nghệ quan trọng và Hội nghị Thượng đỉnh Nhóm các nước công nghiệp phát triển hàng đầu thế giới (G7).Theo Bộ Ngoại giao Ấn Độ, trong chuyến công du kéo dài gần một tuần, Thủ tướng Modi sẽ hội đàm với lãnh đạo Pháp và Slovakia, tham dự chương trình  Ấn Độ - Đổi mới Sáng tạo (Bharat Innovates), Hội nghị Thượng đỉnh G7 và Triển lãm công nghệ VivaTech 2026 – sự kiện công nghệ lớn nhất châu Âu.Trước khi lên đường, Thủ tướng Modi nhấn mạnh Pháp giữ vị trí đặc biệt trong tầm nhìn chiến lược của Ấn Độ. Ông cho biết sẽ gặp Tổng thống Pháp Emmanuel Macron tại thành phố Nice để rà soát tiến độ triển khai các nội dung hợp tác đã được thống nhất sau chuyến thăm Ấn Độ của nhà lãnh đạo Pháp hồi đầu năm nay, đồng thời trao đổi về các vấn đề quốc tế cùng quan tâm. Ngày 14/6, hai nhà lãnh đạo sẽ cùng khai mạc chương trình Ấn Độ - Đổi mới Sáng tạo, trong khuôn khổ Năm Đổi mới sáng tạo Ấn Độ - Pháp. Sự kiện được kỳ vọng trở thành cầu nối giữa các doanh nghiệp khởi nghiệp hàng đầu của Ấn Độ với các nhà đầu tư toàn cầu, đồng thời thúc đẩy các sáng kiến công nghệ xuất phát từ hệ sinh thái giáo dục đại học của nước này.Từ Pháp, Thủ tướng Modi sẽ thực hiện chuyến thăm cấp nhà nước tới Slovakia trong các ngày 14-15/6. Wat hield die bijdrage in, en hoe substantieel was die voor het verloop van de oorlog?   We vragen het militair historicus en theatermaker Tijmen Dokter.    (14:03) Groot alarm deze week over de terugkeer van El Niño, het weerfenomeen dat eens in de zoveel jaar de oceaantemperaturen opjaagt en het klimaat wereldwijd in de war schopt. Dit jaar wordt zelfs gevreesd voor een sterke "super" El Niño: met uitzonderlijke hittegolven, droogtes en overstromingen over grote delen van de wereld.    Maar hoe lang weten we eigenlijk al van het bestaan van El Niño? En hoe ver terug in de tijd kunnen we dit verschijnsel bestuderen?   We bellen met paleoklimatoloog Timme Donders, op veldonderzoek in Italie. Hij onderzoekt El Niño, maar dan niet die van dit jaar, maar El Niño's van duizenden jaren terug, waarvan de sporen onder meer terug te vinden zijn in bodemlagen in Ecuador.  (21:48) Dit weekend werd de vijftigste EO-jongerendag gehouden in Ahoy Rotterdam. Waar het evenement in de jaren ‘70 begon als regionale aangelegenheid, is het inmiddels een volwaardig festival met christelijke rock, hiphop en zelfs moshpits. Een begrip in christelijk Nederland, maar ook daarbuiten.    Religiewetenschapper en antropoloog Miranda Klaver deed onderzoek naar hoe de Jongerendag door de jaren heen is veranderd.  (36:02) Afgelopen woensdag overleed de Iraans-Franse Marjane Satrapi op 56-jarige leeftijd. Hij besloot daarom een Brabants-nationalistische geschiedenis te schrijven, en dat werd het boek Het verhaal van Brabant.      (01:11:48) OVT Doc: Het probleem de wereld in, de begintijd van 'Blijf van m'n Lijf'    Het was schokkend nieuws deze week: Vier mannen zijn aangehouden in een groot onderzoek naar het drogeren en seksueel misbruiken van vrouwen.    Reden voor ons om de documentaire te herhalen die Christianne Alvarado maakte over de begintijd van de ‘Blijf van m'n lijfhuizen.' De opvanghuizen voor mishandelde vrouwen ontstonden in een tijd waarin geweld tegen vrouwen absoluut niet serieus werd genomen, zelfs niet door hulpverleners. Le 17 juin 2022, Laëtitia poussait la porte d'un commissariat des Alpes-de-Haute-Provence pour dénoncer les faits dont elle a été victime pendant 7 ans. Selon son récit, son compagnon lui a infligé durant des années de très nombreuses violences physiques, psychologiques et sexuelles, et va même jusqu'à la prostituer avec des dizaines d'inconnus. Cet homme, Guillaume B., est jugé du 18 au 22 mai à Digne-les-Bains, pour "proxénétisme aggravé", "viols aggravés" et "actes de torture et de barbarie", et encourt la réclusion criminelle à perpétuité. Alors qu'elle a vécu un cauchemar et que le huis-clos lui aurait été accordé, Laëtitia a décidé de ne pas le demander à l'ouverture de l'audience. Elle espère ainsi que son histoire puisse aider d'autres victimes à porter plainte et se défaire de leur tortionnaire.
