Since the shrinking of the minor leagues post-2020, independent baseball leagues are playing a larger role in the development picture. We ask if a non-affiliated Independent minor league team would offer a benefit to the minor league structure. We draw from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League who played the 2023-24 season as an independent team prior to gaining afflation with the Carolina Hurricanes. We discuss how that would work and why it would offer players a viable showcase opportunity against affiliated players. In this episode I interview another ex-NHLer and Canuck legend – Eddie "The Stork" Läck. Eddie signed with the Vancouver Canucks as an undrafted free agent in 2010. Over the next two seasons, he refined his skills with their AHL affiliates, initially with the Manitoba Moose and later with the Chicago Wolves. His big break came in October 2013 when he earned a spot on the NHL roster, serving as backup to Roberto Luongo. Eddie swiftly endeared himself to fans, not only with his exceptional goaltending but also with his infectious and often comical personality. Today, that same charisma defines his role as a realtor and fuels his mischievous antics on Twitter. Thank you so much for watching, listening, commenting and engaging with the content I've created all season. I'm not going anywhere so stay tuned! - Nuckhead

VGK players said goodbye to one of their popular teammates Brayden Pachal Sunday after he was picked up on waivers by the Calgary Flames. Bruce Cassidy said he hopes Pachal gets an opportunity for more playing time in Calgary and said it was a "numbers game" that put Pachal on waivers on Saturday. He started with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL and made his way to Henderson and to VGK. Pachal played 17 games on the NHL level. Also announced Sunday, Danil Miromanov suffered a setback and was placed on LTIR. Tuesday night should mark the return of William Karlsson, who missed 13 games before the break. Cassidy said he will know more on Tuesday morning whether Karlsson will be able to get cleared. Cassidy did say Eichel, Theodore, Carrier and Hutton are back skating on their own. Also announced Sunday, Danil Miromanov suffered a setback and was placed on LTIR. Tuesday night should mark the return of William Karlsson, who missed 13 games before the break. Dennis discussed how the New York Islanders stole the holiday spirit from the Carolina Hurricanes in a nail-biting 5-4 thriller. Despite late rallies from Carolina, the Islanders held strong, sending the Hurricanes into a tailspin over the Holiday break before they return to the ice tomorrow to face Nashville. The Hurricanes have also recalled goaltender Antti Raanta from the Chicago Wolves, to rest Pyotr Kotchekov.
The Carolina Hurricanes over the weekend placed goalie Antti Raanta on waivers, sending him down to Chicago Wolves of the AHL, and called up rookie goalie Yaniv Perets to back up Pyotr Kochetkov. Tim Donnelly & Dennis Cox discuss how the Carolina Hurricanes still should look to make a move in goal, and provide an update about when Frederik Andersen might be healthy enough to return from his blood-clotting issue.

How many of us wind up doing what we want in life. Judd sirott is. The Chicago native is about to begin his 8th season as the radio voice of the Boston Bruins and while his goal was to do the same for his hometown Blackhawks, doing by play of hockey is something Sirott wanted to do as a youngster.
