This was a great interview - Chris is certainly a push the limits kind of guy. I look at the local Tough Mudder 5km event and think that it looks incredibly tough, Chris competes at the highest level and has done 75 miles during the World's Toughest Mudder events. Down to earth guy and I felt he is very relatable to most of us who perhaps like to have a beer and a few slices of pizza, yet he is still able to accomplish amazing feats on the OCR scene. Definitely worth a listen - I hope you enjoy. Talk soon - Tom

Running 75 miles at 200 pounds or better: Clydesdales and Athenas with Chris Betcher   Chris Betcher ran 75 miles at World’s Toughest Mudder in 2016. That’s great, but what makes it exceptional is he did it as a Clydesdale, a guy that weighs more than 200 pounds. (Don’t worry ladies. There’s a category for you too. Athenas are women who weigh more than 150 pounds.)   Chris wrote about his experience for Obstacle Racing Media which led to the creation of a Facebook Group dedicated to WTM participants that qualify as Clydesdales or Athenas. We talk about the article, about the group, and what he specifically did to prepare and execute to reach 75 miles in Vegas.   Don’t forget Toughest Mudder Atlanta is on CBS this weekend. Record it. Watch it twice.   If you'd like to join the World's Toughest Podcast Winner's List and enter the contest for a free pair of Merrell Agility Peak Flex shoes email WorldsToughestPodcast@gmail.com with Merrell in the subject line and the following in the body: 1) Your Name 2) Your email address 3) Your cell phone number   Who would you like to hear on the podcast? Using simple examples from a number of tag-driven websites, this presentation looks at how tagging and the subsequent creation of folksonomies are changing the way we think about information. Starting with obvious tagging systems used on sites like Flickr and Delicious, it examines how tagging enables information to be classified, sorted and managed in ways that make it more accessible, easier to manage and more self-aware. It also explores how tags can be aggregated across large collections of information to provide a snapshot into the overall zeitgeist of collective thinking.

Shifting Our Schools - Education : Technology : Leadership

Introductions Justin Hardman and Chris Betcher joined David and Jeff. |Essential Question| How to expand the learning community to the parents? Jeff> Look at your technology vision and plan to include the development of a school portal that provides the tools to make the components of your plan a reality. David> See his recent post that focused on two themes. One being that schools should use their portal to build on current practices that are already in place to connect parents and expand the learning community. Making information access and communication digital definitely enhances communication opportunities. A second theme is to invite our corporate parents working in 21st century information-rich jobs to our schools to share their experiences and expectations what skills they want their employees to have. Their real world experiences can help in the shifting process as teachers connect what they are teaching to the real world assessments their students will be experiencing. Take Away from the Discussion: -The recent breakout of a virus in HK reminds us of the importance of schools having the capability to go virtual with a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). -Sharing of the myDragonnet online learning platform with three components: classroom management tool, curriculum mapping tool and electronic portfolio. Justin has many insights to share. -Wetpaint as a very useful wiki provider. -Value of individualization in developing VLEs by having a programmer on school staff. |Blog Posts of the Week| Jeff: Planning for 21st Century Technologies David: Jonathon's Blog on VLEs Chris: Clay's Wedding Always Learning Justin: E-Framework Electronic School |Sign Off| -Next show is Thursday March 20th. I made this podcast to accompany my Bling4yrblog blog post trying to explain how to embed your Podomatic podcasts into your Blogger blog directly rather than using a link to it. People at my workshop on podcasting were finding it difficult to understand so I thought a podcast that you can watch a couple of times after you have subscribed in iTunes would be useful as a reference if they get stuck again. To subscribe to this podcast in iTunes just click on the iTunes logo on the right hand side of this podcast page. To get the code I am talking about go to the blog post I have linked above and download the pdf so you can just copy it! Acknowledgment must go to Jing for the free Mac and PC download that allows video screen captures and to Audio Hijack that allows some tricky audio capture but mostly to Chris Betcher in Sydney that tried to help me with some even trickier swf file conversion. 3.5MB 2 minutes 24 seconds
