Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) is calling for local democracy reporting to be expanded to all communities. The call comes as NZME proposes to cut 14 North Island-based community papers before Christmas. These newspapers collectively serve over 850,000 people. Local mayors are concerned the closures could negatively impact turnout in next year's local body elections. CEO Alex Walker lives with his family in Kazakhstan, allowing close oversight of operations and helping to drive progress. He cites the low costs and good infrastructure as major advantages.The company's main focus is on the Rudny Altai volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) belt where they have been drilling the historic Verkhuba deposit. Recent drilling aimed to demonstrate potential for an open pit resource that could be fast-tracked to production. Assays are expected shortly and Walker is excited about the potential they demonstrate. Proximity to local processing plants with spare capacity provides a clear development path.The company raised £540k in October, providing working capital without immediate need for further financing. Focus is on advancing the copper prospects while rationalizing other assets through reduced license sizes and potential farm-outs or sales. The market is tough but Walker stresses considering optionality and cost of capital before giving assets away cheaply.At Verkhuba, historic data points to over 300kt contained copper yet the current market cap is under £3m. First mover advantage in country allows targeting high quality assets. Recent rock chip results also demonstrate potential at another target.Next steps at Verkhuba include confirming an open pit resource and scoping study to demonstrate a clear low-capex development path, focused on first production within 1-2 years. Small scale, low strip ratio production could truck material 50km for toll treatment or on-site production of a 5% Cu concentrate. These options avoid needing to raise large capex, with potential for low opex in Kazakhstan.In closing, Walker stresses the quality of the Verkhuba project, the potential value indicated by preliminary studies, the country advantages, and the strategic focus on demonstrating a clear, low-capex route to first cashflow in the near-term. Hawke's Bay has hit a new milestone in its recovery from Cyclone Gabrielle. More than 1200 homes have been shifted to Category 1 after spending the last two months in the more severe Categories 2 and 3. It means hundreds of residents in Hastings, Napier, and Central Hawke's Bay can move on with their lives after months of uncertainty. Central Hawke's Bay mayor Alex Walker spoke to Corin Dann.

Interview with Alex Walker, CEO of East Star Resources (LSE: EST)East Star Resources is focused on the discovery and development of gold, rare earth, and copper deposits in Kazakhstan. Alex Walker is a musician, producer, and YouTuber, who creates under the name Human Synthetics. Alex has created numerous videos for Isotonik Studios and is known for his live streams. Emma hosts journalist Cole Stangler to discuss the recent French election results. Then, Emma is joined by investigate reporter Amanda Chicago Lewis to discuss her recent piece in the New Republic "Legalized Pot Was Supposed to Help Build Black Wealth in Los Angeles. It Failed." First, Cole and Emma dive into the major takeaways from the first round of the French presidential election, setting up a fight between President Macron's political establishment and the Far Right's Marine Le Pen, and how the democratic socialist candidacy of Jean-Luc Mélenchon found a foothold despite a right-wing-dominated media empire, and a fractured support system in the National Assembly, by relying on a coalition of working-class voters, a recognition of multiculturalism, and a general set of bread and butter economic policy. Next, they dive into the second round matchup, as Cole covers Macron's shift to the right over his candidacy, particularly in his embrace of Islamophobic fear-mongering, repeal of the wealth tax, and commitment to a law and order candidacy. They compare and contrast his hard pivot to racism with Le Pen's more subtle shift away from overtly racist rhetoric (despite its continued role in her policy) as she found herself challenged from the right, before Cole covers the general anti-Macron sentiment grounding Le Pen's campaign, and the establishment's preparations to blame the left for any defeat from the right. Next, Amanda Chicago Lewis joins as they discuss the racial equity policy that is “all the rage” in progressive states legalizing marijuana, and the unsurprising manipulation of Black and brown business owners that's going on behind the scenes. First, Amanda dives into the representation of the policy as a “license to generational wealth” for people of color, and how, instead, we've seen the process for an equity license drive business owners to predatory loans to meet absurd conditions just so they can even be considered. They wrap up the interview with the story of Kika Keith and her attempts to take advantage of this supposed equity program in her city, only to be stymied left and right by the US government (both state and federally), and look to past policies of Black Capitalism and redlining to explain the US's need to have complete control over the terms and conditions of Black wealth. Emma also touches on the Sunset Park subway attack that occurred this morning and Joe Scarborough's recommendation for Dems to focus on conservatives being canceled on social media… to win the midterms? And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Nomiki Konst as they cover Ben Shapiro's reminder that rising sea levels will AT WORST, contribute to mass homelessness, Zack from Tennessee dives into conservatism in the southeast and its relationship to legislative success, and Amy Wax's absurd collection of violently racist rhetoric about her own students.
