It's safe to say that 1990 represented the absolute zenith of thrash metal greatness. All you have to do is thumb through everything released that year and you'll have irrefutable proof. Thrash was at its peak when SUICIDAL TENDENCIES unleashed their 5th studio album, LIGHTS…CAMERA…REVOLUTION! their first to feature “future Metallica bassist” Robert Trujillo and also their first album to be sonically dominated more so by pure thrash than their earlier punk based, crossover sound. Even with all of the other epic albums released back in 1990, THIS one has the perfect guitar tone. With crystal clear cleans, precise crunch, brutal riffing, and face melting shreddery (not to mention Mike Muir's undeniable lyrical message), this is quite literally THE perfect thrash album, an unmatched, hall of fame, stone cold classic. It literally has “all the balls”. We were “a little more twanglified than normal” because “we kinda went hard last night”. It's time to discover some of the greatest “misheard lyrics” in metal and “chop out a line of Folgers” as we do our best to “bring smiles to faces” and lift others spirits during times of trouble. Get ready for some “tingling” (down there), grab yourself a to-go order of Ron's “Rib Lounge Riblets”, break out your “laserdisc” players and JOIN US as we dive into “the perfect thrash album” known as LIGHTS…CAMERA…REVOLUTION! Interview aired the weekend of 3/15/24!
Interview by Kris PetersOn the eve of their Australian tour, Infectious Grooves pulled one final punch when they announced former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg into a band that already includes Mike Muir, Dean Pleasants (Suicidal Tendencies) and Rob Trujillo (Metallica). Not that Infectious Grooves rest their musical output on the pedigree of musicians from popular bands. They never have. But adding one more name to the list definitely doesn't hurt.HEAVY sat down for a chat with Weinberg who expressed his excitement about the upcoming tour with Infectious Grooves in Australia and the unique opportunity to work with his musical heroes. He discussed the challenges of balancing the mission of making rock music with the opportunity to take in the culture and life of Australia. Weinberg also discussed his experience and mindset in joining Infectious Grooves, highlighting the excitement and challenges of transitioning from his previous heavy and fast style with Slipknot to the funk and groove-oriented music of Infectious Grooves.Weinberg also provided a detailed account of his recovery from hip surgery, emphasizing his determination to return to normalcy. He discussed the injury sustained from years of running, the impact on his hip, and the decision to undergo surgery. Weinberg expressed gratitude for the support he received, including the encouragement from the Muir family.

Today's topic is Slammin' to Slayer... Metal Enters the Pit. We talk about how punk influenced metal, and how metal infuenced punk. This is the mosh part, friends. And it's a long one. This week, Slayer gig with polarizing punk gods Suicidal Tendencies. And "Necrophiliac" inspires one fan -- then others -- to make the leap from stage diving to slamdancing. After Episode Nine, Patreon supporters receive every weekly episode. Free listeners get every other episode, every other week. Learn more at Patreon.com/SlayerBook. Every week, host D.X. Ferris presents another chapter — sometimes two or three — in the history of Slayer, from the groundbreaking group's pre-history in Chile to their hazy, fractured, mysterious end in 2019. Slayer was the first Big Four band to break up. Why? Well, it's a long story... The Talkin' Slayer podcast program show is written, deeply researched, lightly edited, and mostly rehearsed, with some production value. This is an all-killer-no-filler podcast: The episode proper begins after roughly 60-90 seconds of introduction, tops. No need to skip the first 15 minutes. The music changes every week. Ferris is an award-winning writer. He has worked for Rolling Stone, Alternative Press, The AV Club, and Decibel magazine. He is a fan. He has opinions. He is the author of something like nine books, depending how you count them. Two are about Slayer. The first one is an entire book about the classic thrash album Reign in Blood, which is part of the fairly prestigious 33 1/3 book series. His bigger Slayer book, though, is the 2023 update of the full-on band biography "Slayer 66 & 2/3: A Metal Band Biography, POSTMORTEM Edition." (This is the third edition; it was previously known as "Slayer 66 & 2/3: The Jeff and Dave Years...."). And that book is mostly what he'll be talking about when we're talkin' Slayer. Most episodes are audio adaptations of chapters from that book. Some have original and/or bonus material. The KOPPOD crew memorialize Jerry Springer's passing with a wide-ranging discussion, using GG ALLIN's appearance on 'The Jerry Springer Show' as a springboard. Lots of riffing accompanied by some analysis of moral panics during the 80s, 90s, and today (as viewed through the lens of punk subculture). They pay particular attention to a 1990 'Donahue' episode about 2 LIVE CREW's obscenity charges, which featured JELLO BIAFRA, MIKE MUIR, and WENDY O. WILLIAMS as guest panelists. Meet us in the pit this week for a hella good time! We're getting our aggression by revisiting the starting point of Kevin's music fandom. We will not be covering the Big 4 of Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax; but if you love them, then you will love this bunch. How will Robert react to one of our heaviest episodes of all time??? Will he be metal thrashing mad or just plain mad?!?!What is it that we do here at InObscuria? Electric artists have been playing acoustically since the beginning of recorded music. Usually, the slower ballads and the prettier mellow songs by rock artists were accompanied by acoustic guitars. This week we are celebrating bands that can re-imagine an up-tempo song with acoustic instruments and still rock! We are pulling the plug… and gasping for air guitars! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss the FORGOTTEN. Mtv started a series in 1989 called “unplugged”, and almost every mainstream relevant act started producing acoustic albums or versions of their songs. This week we listen to some artists that you may have never considered as having acoustic interpretations of their songs.Songs this week include:Sevendust – “Seasons” from Southside Double-Wide Acoustic Live (2004)Thundermother – “Dogs From Hell (acoustic)” from Heat Wave Deluxe Addition (2021)Diamond Head – “Lightning To The Nations” from Acoustic First Cuts EP (2002) Los Kung-Fu Monkeys – “Common Chord (acoustic)” from Common Chord (2020)Clutch – “Basket Of Eggs (acoustic)” from Blast Tyrant Deluxe Addition (2011)Haunt – “On The Stage” from Unplugged Vol. 1 (2021)Suicidal Tendencies – “Get Your Right On! (acoustic)” from Get Your Fight On! California thrashers Suicidal Tendencies had already been called "sell outs" when they released the video for the iconic single "Institutionalized." Mike Muir, never one to buck to expectations, took ST in the directions he wanted through the 80s and early 90s, and their 1992 album The Art of Rebellion might be the creative apex for the band. Yes, they thrash. Yes, the rock. But the band was already evolving, and TAOR shows a level of arrangement and playing craftsmanship that doesn't come easy. From the charted MTV single "Nobody Hears" to the shape-shifting opener "Can't Stop," Muir is the most surprising discovery in our revisit, taking his voice and lyrics into a variety of sounds and ideas that still resonate. Of course, having an already established line-up of killer musicians backed by the lone appearance of drumming monster Josh Freese helps to further flesh out all the ideas and sounds into a truly unique record for the time period. Grabaron la canción "It's Not Easy" escrita por Muir. En 1989, Suicidal Tendencies volvió a grabar "It's Not Easy" para su lanzamiento Controlled By Hatred / Feel Like Shit ... DejaVu album. Camera... Revolution!/Still Cyco After All These Years. El grupo entraba de lleno en el Thrash Metal con How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today?
In this week's episode, we bow down as low as we can get to the almighty bass guitar heroes! The heart of rock n' roll is the rhythm and this week we explore some of the most amazing low-frequency providers. How do they make such wonderful noise with metal wires on a piece of wood? This subject holds a very special place in Kevin's heart, as he tries very hard to play the same instrument that we are praising this week. What's this InObscuria thing? Practice talking about “Suicidal Tendencies” at all of your work, family and social events and see exactly how many people will absolutely lose their minds…at the fact that you actually are familiar with the S.T. and The Chief Sermonator, The Rev. MIKE MUIR of the Church of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES* (which, to avoid any further triggering, will be referred to henceforthian as “S.T.”*). Mark the time (to be “Lovely”), break out your skateboard (“Give It Revolution”), inhale a half pipe full of relaxers (“Clap Like Ozzy”) and JOIN US as we partake of the “Rib Lounge jalapeno smoked pasta relaxer**” sized “sampler” (again with the food references) of a band with multiple tangentional ties to The Big 4 who blended the aggression and intensity of hard core punk with early skate-thrash, creating their own brand of thrash metal with a most Righteous message (“…and you all need to hear it!”) *Sorry, we totally lied about that whole “triggering” thing earlier. You should know by now we're just JOKING…about the triggering. We never joke about relaxers and chilling! WELCOME TO A VERY SPECIAL EDITION OF INSIDE WAYNE MANOR WITH STEPHEN WAYNE AND FRIENDS. “THE MINDS EYE, AND VOICE OF THE BEHOLDER'S (The Street Arist's of Los Angeles)……. Chapter One, Part One: Robert Vargas He is a contemporary artist known for his mixed-media portraits, murals and live events. He was born and raised in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights. His best-known works include "Long Live The King" featuring the late Edward Van Halen, in Hollywood. A City of L.A. commissioned mural "Can't Stop" of legendary Suicidal Tendencies frontman, Mike Muir, and Vargas was a key figure in helping Los Angeles lift its street art ban while creating another one of his his masterpieces, a four-story mural on Spring Street in the heart of downtown L.A. where our conversation took place during one of his live events…... A son of Los Angeles, a artist, a lover of music and soon to be record holder, in the Summer of 2017 he began work on his biggest project yet: a fourteen-story mural in L.A. that will rank as the largest mural in the world by a single artist. A little something different, and of course we talk about music!!!!!!!!!!!
Nessa mesma época criaram a Dogtown skateboardss. Go Skate or Go Home!
after this past weekend's rather anticlimactic exhibition bout between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr., I convened this show's production staff to attempt to determine which was the most memorable celebrity boxing encounter of all-time. ?As you would expect, there were nominations for Joey Buttafucco vs. the late Joanie “Chyna” Lauer, Manute Bol vs. William “Refrigerator” Perry, and most controversially, S-Club 7's Hannah Spearrit vs. The Saturdays' Vanessa White, but after several recounts, the (narrow) winner was the 1996 clash betwixt skateboarding's Simon Woodstock and Suicidal Tendencies' Mike Muir. Though the fight itself is not considered a wonderful advertisement for the sport, it was commemorated with the custom skateboard shown above, recently auctioned by Southeby's for $17milllion US??DThis week's show does not feature interviews with Woodstock or Mike Muir because I would like to respect their privacy. There is however, some music.
In this episode the friends talk about how Jason used to hang out with Milo from the Descendents when he was in high school and Milo was in college. The two discuss the punk/cholo style common in their San Diego punk circle. In doing so Martin explains what 'Wino' shoes are. This talk leads to a discussion of Suicidal Tendencies and the time Mike Muir called his house and spoke to his mom. We get a little more information about Martin and Pat's 1982 trip to see the Misfits in Compton. Martin shares the part of the story Pat forgot last episode. The part about being held and searched by 14 Long Beach police officers. We also hear about Pat learning to drive after Martin has his nose exploded at an SSDecontrol show in Santa Monica. Thank you for listening. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jason-traeger/support
Hi Atlas and Listeners, I had the wonderful opportunity to sit down and speak with Robert Vargas he is (In my opinion) one of the greatest artists in history. Tune in as we speak about stories that molded him into the artist he is today and the legacy he is leaving for future generations. Robert's art and talent is for every person from every walk of life to enjoy and relate to from the Native Americans the inhabited Los Angeles to The Golden Boys of our society. To gather more perspective on who Robert is please read the piece from wescover.com below. Robert is not only an Artist, he is a real Angelino and it shows in how real his work really is. Please take a listen, I hope you enjoy I know I had fun recording this episode with an old friend. "Robert Vargas is a contemporary artist known for his mixed-media portraits, murals and live events. He was born and raised in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights. Vargas is a leading creative force in the revitalization of Downtown LA's art scene. His paintings and drawings infuse classic genres of portraiture and nudes with an avant-garde explosivity that not only captures the visage and likeness of his subjects but seems to excavate the intimate aspects of their character. Vargas selects his subjects intuitively at his highly attended live-painting sessions, creating powerful and sublime representations of the human connection through his portraiture. His visual vocabulary pulls from life experience, a viscerally sensual approach to line and texture, and an almost mannerist choreography of abstraction and representation that combine to unforgettable effect in his portraits. His best-known works include a City of L.A. commissioned mural "Can't Stop" of legendary Suicidal Tendencies frontman, "Mike Muir, and his "Warrior Odyssey" mural of skateboard Icon and Z-boy legend, Tony Alva for the Kinney Hotel in Venice. In 2013, Vargas was a key figure in helping Los Angeles lift its street art ban while creating his masterpiece, "Our Lady Of DTLA" a four-story mural on Spring street in the heart of downtown L.A. In May 2011, Vargas was named one of LA Weekly's People of the Year and was featured on a limited-edition cover of the issue. His public mural works both in Los Angeles and throughout the world, he sees as a means to reach a wider audience and promote accessible art and community through the creative process. Continuing to shape the way the city's history is written, in the Summer of 2017 he will begin work on his biggest project yet: a fourteen-story mural in L.A. that will rank as the largest mural in the world by a single artist."

Mike Muir of Suicidal Tendencies is our guest this week. We discuss the band's new record STill Cyco Punk After All These Years, a reimagining of his 1996 solo album, and how the lyrical content is still relevant today. Mike also talks at length on a number of topics including how being a victim is a choice in some peoples' lives, how a surefire way to be miserable is to make other people happy, how most people just want to be right and refuse to communicate, how journalism is more focused on getting a point across instead of reporting news, how extreme people can manipulate others because of human nature, the current dry spell of genre-defining bands, music becoming just background noise instead of the soundtrack to our lives, and how proud he is to get inducted into the skateboarding hall of fame. Petar, Jozalyn, and Brandon discuss Metallica's new brand of whiskey, the eleven-year-old who was left home alone so his parents could go see a Godflesh concert, Slayer continuing their final tour into 2019, and if new Motley Crue music is something we want to hear. Songs: Suicidal Tendencies - “F.U.B.A.R.” LiveKill - “Demons”

Mike Muir, legendary vocalist for Suicidal Tendencies, is our guest this week. Instead of talking about their album and touring, we wind up hearing about his philosophy on life, how his passion for music pisses people off and how he relates to his kids differently than the way his father related to him; really, we just turned on the mics and let him roll. Godless and Chuck also talk about their experience at the recent Slayer show, whether or not people are too cool for Slayer now, and how most people are posers when it comes to liking obscure bands and hating the mainstream. Stop pretending you don't like anything that sold more that five records; you aren't fooling anyone! Songs:Suicidal Tendencies - "I Saw Your Mommy"Periphery - "The Scourge"

It is difficult to prove that the Generation Y and young people today are not more technologically adapted than their older counterparts. They may sometimes display an unhealthy level of dependence on their mobile phone, become bored easily when taught in school how to use basic commands in Microsoft Word and be called upon often to fix the problem with the printer, but are all members of this age bracket clued-up and comfortable with technology? According to the research, there was little evidence that today’s students demand modern technology when entering university that the academic institution cannot provide. Technological integration is expanding, however in terms of study, students may not be as reliant on it to learn as we stereotype them to be. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/igeneration/are-todays-students-truly-tech-savvy/16147 Congrats to Mike Muir, AMLE President-Elect! This week on the Livecast, we began the show talking about all the broads Sean boned. The talk quickly shifts to Rob meeting some chick at a show, and then the show seemingly morphed into Loveline. Rob then discussed the Suicidal Tendencies show and his opinions on Mike Muir. When we came back for the second hour, Sean had a crazy idea about a new contest that you can read about under the playlist. We then played a special version of Thrash It or Trash It, where each host picked a song and we got Shlomo, Mongoose Commander and Pizza Destroyer to judge the tracks. It came out awesome! We ended the show with a great story about a grandma and a wrestling promoter. Here is this week's playlist: Decapitated – Three-Dimensional Defect Suicidal Tendencies – Subliminal Landmine Marathon – Shadows Fed To Tyrants Behemoth – Slaves Shall Serve Genghis Tron – Laser Bitch Sean's Contest: Leave a comment on this post with your idea for a dumb (small) tattoo for Sean to get on his calf muscle. In two weeks (on Dec. 1st) we will vote on what the best/dumbest idea is and then Sean WILL ACTUALLY GET THE TATTOO by the following week. Another contest: We had Shlomo sing the Dreidel Song acapella and we want you guys to create a metal cover! UPDATE: Here is a track with Shlomo's signing isolated
