Christian musician, worship leader, songwriter, and painter Jon Reddick is the guest on our episode today and what may seem like a random start to his story about his lawn lands home with a message that is always relevant. Our Father in heaven loves us so much that his light, beauty, and glory can literally cover over any of the “spots” we've allowed to develop. Whether those spots are on our lawn or in our heart, our God's grace is sufficient and our true power is shown in him working through our weaknesses. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (ESV) 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. - - - - - - Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. This podcast is brought to you by Authentic Media and Worship Leader Magazine. Our host is Joshua Swanson and the show's co-producer and editor is Matt McCartie. More episodes can be found here. Who Is Jon Reddick? “Jon Reddick has been my worship leader for over eight years now,” shares TobyMac about Reddick. “He's not only a gifted singer who expresses soul and emotion as well as anyone I've ever heard, but also a songwriter whose lyrics awaken my heart to hope through God's love.” Growing up the son of a pastor and the church pianist in Memphis, TN, and brother to six siblings -- including his sister, Janice Gaines, who herself went on to become a Stellar Award and GMA Dove Award nominated recording artist for Motown Gospel. The Reddick family was infused in music. It was woven into Reddick's DNA from the start. Eventually, Reddick and his family made their way to Nashville, where God kept putting unlikely people in his path. He has had the opportunity to work on songwriting with artists like Matt Redman, Tommy Sims, Josh Kerr and Sheryl Crow. He is also one of the worship leaders at Church of the City working alongside Chris McClarney and led by pastor Darren Whitehead. In addition to being a talented musician, Reddick is also a creative visual artist. In a fusion of his artistic and musical sides he has painted the artwork for each of his music releases. For me, art is a way for me to get my words out. It gives voice to what I'm feeling, allows me to say something in my own way. It's okay to let people interpret it how they interpret it, because it's something bigger. I just want to be a conduit to help people reconcile themselves with God and each other,” Reddick says. “I want to bring people together. I consider it an honor and a privilege to get to lead people in the transparency of worship.” His song, "God Turn It Around," charted top 5 on BOTH airplay/audience charts for the four consecutive weeks In 2020 Mandisa recorded and released a version of his song "You Keep Hope Alive" which became a Top 15 Billboard Christian Airplay and AC radio single and Top 50 single of the year. He has also performed at LakeWood Church, multiple IF Gatherings, the Unite to Fight Poverty event, the Experience Worship Conference and the fall 2021 TobyMac Hits Deep Tour alongside Tauren Wells, Jordan Feliz, We Are Messengers and label-mates Cochren & Co. and Terrian.
In this episode we interview Jesse Phillips, bassist at Church of the City. Jesse is a talented musician with a great list of credentials (Church of the City, Chris McClarney, Christy Nockels, Aaron Shust, etc.). But the coolest thing about him is his heart for Christ and a desire to build up others in the Kingdom.

In a culture as sexually permissive as our own, the apostle Paul's warning to “flee from sexual immorality” can sound hopelessly out-of-date. Yet for the follower of Christ, we recognize that we belong to the Lord and that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Being joined to Christ, what we do with our bodies matters, and while the world may look down upon us, we seek to glorify God in our bodies. The Lord Is My SalvationCCLI #7063694 | Nathan Nockels, Kristyn Getty, Keith Getty, and Jonas Myrin© 2016He LivesCCLI #7133098 | Anthony Skinner, Chris McClarney, and Jonathan Smith© Capitol | Alive, Forgiveness, Freedom, Glory, Honor, Jesus, Praise, Resurrection, SalvationChrist Be MagnifiedCCLI #7139866 | Cody Carnes, Cory Asbury, and Ethan Hulse© Capitol | Exaltation, Praise, Singing, Worship

When Ahab and Jezebel mercilessly steal a man's vineyard, Elijah returns to the scene to condemn their actions. Though Ahab had historically ignored God's commands and warnings, at this condemnation he humbles himself and is sorry. While he cannot reverse God's judgements against him, God does spare him from seeing disaster in his days. 1. The covetous king (vs. 1-4)2. The wrong kind of spouse (vs. 5-7)3. We are all broken people, living in a broken world. It's that simple. Unfortunately, no one is exempt from the effects of sin. The good news for all of us is that Jesus steps into the midst of our brokenness, is near to us and makes us whole in his love. What's even more amazing is God wants to use you to see past the broken exterior to the hearts of the people in your life. Brokenness can often make us hard, bitter and difficult to deal with. But we've been given the call to see past that hard exterior and love people in the midst of their pain. In today's podcast, we're looking together at how we can see past the brokenness in others to love them well. Our Scripture for today comes from Psalm 34:18, and today's worship is Beauty for Ashes by Chris McClarney.
