Steve Prest discusses with Ivan six things which should be better known. Steve Prest was a Weapon Engineer Officer who joined the Royal Navy after reading Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Loughborough University. He served in the Defence Communications Services Agency in Corsham in support of Op TELIC 1 (Iraq); undertook a short tour in Afghanistan as a Liaison Officer to Task Force Helmand; and has served on exchange with the French Navy. In the UK he has worked in Defence Equipment and Support, MOD, the Permanent Joint Headquarters and the Maritime Capability Division of Navy Command Headquarters. At sea he was the Weapon Engineer Officer in HMS WESTMINSTER undertaking operations in the Mediterranean (Libya), Arabian Gulf and Indian Ocean; and then the Commander Weapon Engineer in HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH, bringing the ship out of build and home to Portsmouth. Joining the nascent Navy Acquisition organisation in 2017, he was previously the Programme Director of the Type 31 Frigate Programme. He then became Deputy Director Navy Acquisition (Equipment and Systems), and Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) for the Maritime Electronic Warfare and Mine Hunting Capability Programmes. He fulfilled the role of Director Navy Acquisition from September 2022 until May 2023 and finished his career as Deputy Director People Change Programmes in Navy Command HQ. Still working out what he wants to do when he grows up, Steve is now an independent consultant, advisor, commentator and speaker in the Defence sector and beyond. He has set up his own company, Alatar Ltd, and his self-appointed mission is “to help brilliant people to do amazing things”. He is married to Kerry and they live on the Hampshire coast with their daughter, Emily. He enjoys reading and is a keen fan of most sports, participating when time and body allow. The Royal Navy and what it does. That life is stochastic not based on fate, otherwise risk management wouldn't work! The Scouring of the Shire - from Lord of the Rings. It was a crucial part of the narrative arc in the books but missed out from the otherwise brilliant films. Captain Cook. Everyone knows that he "discovered" Australia (he didn't really, but...) but his qualities as a leader and maritime professional should be better known. That inclusive leadership isn't "woke nonsense" but is, at its heart, just good leadership. Bluestone 42 - a BBC comedy drama about a British bomb disposal detachment details the camaraderie and bonds shared between the soldiers in the unit as they risk their lives defusing bombs. Fancy joining us as we break into the Fort Knox of wine?!It's an old mine and former munitions dump in the middle of the English countryside that now holds over 9 million bottles and £1bn+ of stock. It's one of the biggest such storage facilities in the world and one (whisky) bottle stored there recently sold for £1.2m.Only downside? Security is tight. And you have to climb up 157 steps to get back out. Good thing Peter was actually invited in - and had a 'sustaining' lunch before the journey back up into the real world (including Cheval Blanc 1949, Krug 1996, Domaine Fourrier Clos St Jacques 2005 and Coche-Dury Meursault Genevrières 2010). It's quite the adventure: something of a wine pilgrimage, which makes for a fascinating episode diving into professional wine storage, why some wines and people need it, wine investment...and of course an insight into how those very rare and special wines are tasting.Very much related to the last point, this episode also features the audio treat of Peter trying his best to make sense while the wrong side of multiple delicious glasses and 100 feet under the Wiltshire turf in cavernous tunnels stuffed with millions of bottles of the world's finest wines. It's worth the listen, even if solely for comedy value. All details from this episode, together with photos to help set the scene, are on our website: Show notes for Wine Blast S4 E2 - Inside the Fort Knox of Wine.We love to hear from you so please do get in touch via Instagram or Twitter. Tanvir lives in Corsham, Wiltshire and is an author, researcher and disability activist. She currently works as an associate research fellow for D4D (http://d4d.org.uk/), which is a project exploring disability and how disabled people experience community. Tanvir feels especially passionate about this as she started to lose her sight at 21 years old and has experienced first-hand how differently society treats disabled people She talks about ‘coming out' as a blind person when she got her first guide dog Grace in 20 09. Grace sadly died a few months ago. They had the most incredible bond and she was by Tanvir's side when her father died and whilst she was studying for her MA and PHD – in fact Grace is a doctor too!Since starting to lose her sight, the discrimination against the disabled community has shocked Tanvir to the core so to try and ‘reach across the divide' she decided to write a book ‘Cull' (https://bit.ly/3hQAOdg). After all, she says, ‘1 in 4 people has a disability that they talk about … and every single group of people… every tribe will have disabled people' so how come they are treated differently and often made to feel repugnant. ‘Cull' is about a visually impaired journalist Alex and her guide dog, Chris (based on Grace). Alex starts to investigate a link between missing homeless people and the government's new Care and Protect Act. You might think ‘Cull' will be a heavy read think again! It is one of my favourite books, empowering for women, full of superheroes, an amazing guide dog and many twists and turns. I couldn't put it down! When the Covid-19 pandemic hit our shores, Tanvir describes how scary it was for the disabled community. Herd immunity was terrifying for them and left them feeling very vulnerable. She also talks about how, if she had contracted Covid-19 at the beginning of the pandemic and been taken to hospital unconscious she may well have had a DNR (do not resuscitate) placed on her because of her disability. In her own words that is ‘utterly terrifying'. In fact, whilst I don't want to give too much away about her book ‘Cull' the similarities between fiction and ‘real' life are clear. Now that the worst of this pandemic is over (fingers crossed) Tanvir talks about having to ‘gird her loins and go back out into the world'. This will take time as she'll have to re-train her guide dog Mitzie to tackle buses, trains and travel again. Another difficulty for Tanvir will be noise as she has hyperacusis (noise sensitivity) and finds loud noises very stressful and disorientating. This episode is a must for everyone. Tanvir talks passionately and to the point about the difficulties and disparities the disabled community struggle through on a daily basis as she says, ‘what is key is a common humanity, respect for everyone'. This interview was recorded on Wednesday 16th June at 2pm BST. Where to find more info about Tinted Specs Podcast… Linktr.ee: linktr.ee/tintedspecspodInstagram: @tintedspecspod⚡️Facebook: @tintedspecspod - Tinted Glasses Podcast

When he's not trying to convert the world to a species appropriate diet, Nick has been known to run barefoot, swim and eat real food, not all at the same time. Thank you, Nick for being here. Thank you for all the work that you're doing pioneering better health for our pets and I can't wait to dig deeper into this conversation.   Learn more about my Diet Consultation for your pets! This is your host, Dr. Jessica Fusch. I created this podcast, The Biohack Your Pets Podcast, as a fun way for me to talk about my favorite things with other experts in my field and provide a resource for pet parents everywhere. These conversations have confirmed what I've always known food is medicine. Better nutrition is the number one way that we can hack our pets biology, therefore helping them live happier, healthier, and most likely longer lives too! Listen, kibble is crap. We have to stop feeding what's convenient and start feeding what is healthiest? So what is healthiest you ask? Whole fresh food of course. But no, you cannot just feed your dog or cat chicken and rice or steak day in and day out. Luckily, there are many pre prepared home cooked or raw diets you can order and have shipped to you. If you want to cook for your pets yourself. However, I have created a YouTube channel all about it. It's called Farmers Market Fito. There are only a few videos right now, but many more are on the way. I also offer personalized diet consultations and formulations. You can find the links to set up an appointment with me in the podcast show notes or on my website key vet care.com kyvtce.com. I look forward to partnering with you and helping you stop feeding kibble and helping you create happier, healthier and longer lived pets.   We hope you like this content and if you do, please follow us on Facebook or YouTube, check out the website, subscribe and leave a review!

The Corsham company will introduce three key products from the Premium programme, the Ultra Power Chucks, Dynamic Performance Chucks and Mini Precision Chucks. Available with features integral to all Fahrion systems is the new standard Centro P collet chuck system. Additionally, the new Ultra Power Chucks, or UPC, are designed to optimise material removal rates on high- performance machines with high rigidity and drive power. Radial rigidity, compact length and mechanical pull-out protection generate torque clamping levels of 1,000nM. The very high clamping force usually requires rigid connections which in turn results in the creation and propagation of vibration. The Dynamic Performance Chucks, or DPC, are designed for machines with less stability and drive power, but usually with higher spindle and axis speed. The DPC is ideal for trimming, finishing and roughing with all processing tasks able to be performed using the same chuck. Operational features include high removal rates on machines with contemporary milling strategies, making them ideal for applications in tool and mould manufacture. Finally, the Mini Precision Chucks, or MPC, are designed for use with high-speed spindles or for operating in tight spaces. The MPC chucks feature smaller clamping diameters for high spindle speeds and the very slim outer contours enable deep cavity machining.
