Today on the Biohack Your Pets Podcast we have Dr. Jeff Feinman. Jeffrey Feinman, BA, VMD, CVH, holds both molecular biology and veterinary degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Jeff was the first dual degree recipient at Penn in the prestigious University Scholar program (which was designed to foster medical scientists). His scientific experience includes research at The Wistar Institute, Penn's School of Medicine in the Department of Biochemistry (where he first published his scientific research) and the veterinary school's Department of Medical Genetics (where he wrote further scientific articles). In addition his academic career during veterinary school included an externship in endocrinology at the Animal Medical Center in New York City where he was again published in a leading, peer-reviewed veterinary journal. After graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Jeff was selected for a competitive internship in clinical medicine at the Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. After fourteen months of intensive clinical experience he decided to postpone his planned academic career to help individual patients. In clinical practice he quickly became alarmed by increasing rates of allergy, cancer and other degenerative diseases. Frustration with the results of conventional therapy of these chronic diseases fueled an interest in natural, holistically-applied therapies. Some patients however were still not responding fully to holistic treatment. Dr. Jeff then applied the principles learned during his molecular biology training to further explore even more effective treatments. Clinical nutrition, supplementation, herbal therapy, minimal vaccination, etc. were just not enough. This led him to homeopathy's equisite success in treating otherwise fatal epidemics. After much reading and some experimentation with the effects of homeopathic drugs (“remedies”) on himself and his pets, he began to incorporate them into his practice. In 1998 he further advanced his training in Dr. Richard Pitcairn's Professional and Advanced Veterinary Homeopathy Courses. Dr. Jeff then became the first Certified Veterinary Homeopath in the state of Connecticut. He has continued his pursuit of lifelong education by studying with world-renowned homeopaths like David Little, Dr. Paul Herscu, Dr. Andre' Saine, Pratful Vijayakar (“Predictive” Homeopathy), etc. Currently he is focused on helping his patients and clients maintain and regain wellness. This is accomplished by integrating his molecular biology and homeopathy knowledge into a unified method called the Vitality and Balance System (VBS). In addition to researching VBS and learning more every day, Dr. Jeff is devoted to teaching both pet owners and other veterinarians about optimal pet care. He and his wonderful wife Amy live with Archie and Vanya, who are two rescued pups and a Rex cat named Tigger. He is the Chief Empowerment Officer and founder of Holistic Actions!, Chairman of the Academy of Homeopathy (AVH) Education committee, President of the AVH Foundation, and was previously the holistic medical director for On The Wings Of Angels rescue in Odessa FL, and is helping to mentor other veterinarians. Currently his practice integrates the latest, safest, diagnostic techniques and treatments with holistic modalities such as clinical nutrition and homeopathy. Turk Akbay is the founder of Off Leash Dog Training and inventor of Train as You Live dog training methodology. With over 4,000 dogs trained and countless hours working with dogs and their families. When Turk got his first dog, Djembe, he started looking for a trainer. He was surprised—shocked, actually—that the self-professed “canine experts” had little variance in their training methods. They all relied heavily on basic punishment/reward-based training that was geared more towards making the dog conform to “human rules” rather than trying to create a mutually beneficial pet-owner relationship. What's more, their training tactics failed to account for any of the dog's natural tendencies or basic instincts. In essence, the trainers seemed more interested in creating an obedient/robotic dog rather than helping Turk achieve a happy and symbiotic relationship with his new four-legged friend. Turk was convinced he could do better and soon after, Off Leash Dog Training was born. While working day after day training thousands of dogs spanning every imaginable breed, personality type, and behavioral issue, Turk developed the Train as You Live methodology. Train as You Live dog training methodology gives clarity and fun to both the owners and their beloved dogs, allowing for enjoyable walks in the park, off leash hikes in the woods, relaxing hang outs with friends, and sweet snuggles at home. Now he is building a community for people just like him who want to "be the owner their dog deserves" Find is on IG www.instagram.com/dogownerscollective We hope you like this content and if you do, please follow us on Facebook or YouTube, check out the website, subscribe and leave a review!

Today on the podcast, Dr. Jessica Fusch talks about Calcium in pets! This will be an ongoing series talking about pet nutrition! I created this podcast as a fun way for me to talk about my favorite things with other experts in my field and provide a resource for pet parents everywhere. These conversations have confirmed what I've always known food is medicine. Better nutrition is the number one way that we can hack our pets biology, therefore helping them live happier, healthier, and most likely longer lives too! Listen, kibble is crap. We have to stop feeding what's convenient and start feeding what is healthiest? So what is healthiest you ask? Whole fresh food of course. But no, you cannot just feed your dog or cat chicken and rice or steak day in and day out. Luckily, there are many pre prepared home cooked or raw diets you can order and have shipped to you. If you want to cook for your pets yourself. However, I have created a YouTube channel all about it. It's called Farmers Market Fito. There are only a few videos right now, but many more are on the way. I also offer personalized diet consultations and formulations. You can find the links to set up an appointment with me in the podcast show notes or on my website key vet care.com kyvtce.com. I look forward to partnering with you and helping you stop feeding kibble and helping you create happier, healthier and longer lived pets. Today on the podcast we have Dr. Katie Woodley! Dr. Katie is a small animal veterinarian who developed a passion for natural medicine while living in New Zealand. She was able to see how living off the land by growing her own vegetables and raising animals was the way to live the healthiest version. Her pets were lucky to have lots of open space to run around in, and were always at the beach or the river. When she moved back to the States five years ago, her husband unfortunately developed an autoimmune disease. As they researched natural medicine options for him to avoid the horrible side effects of the treatment options his doctors were providing him, she realized that she was doing a disservice to her animal patients by not offering these holistic options to them. She began down the integrative medicine route, and has never been happier. She became certified in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for pets, which changed her entire practice and treatment outcomes. Through nutrition, acupuncture, herbal medicine, essential oils, and supplements, every animal can achieve optimal health or feel their best even when they have a chronic illness or disease like cancer. She currently has her certification in acupuncture and a Graduate Diploma in Chinese herbal medicine, and she is continuously learning about the other natural modalities and growing her knowledge base every day so she can help pets in new and exciting ways to help them thrive! She started The Natural Pet Doctor to provide pet owners with more resources for natural medicine advice and care, because we need to increase awareness of how amazing natural medicine truly is. Her mission is to ensure that all pet parents have access to herbal medicine, supplementation and nutritional advice throughout their pet's lifetime. One of her greatest joys is the opportunity to collaborate with both pet parents and other veterinary professionals to ensure access to all available integrative options for pet health care.
