Chris and Jarrod have their phones in hand and they're proud of it. If you want high-quality content, listen to something that isn't free. You're cheap, so this is what you get. When you think about it, it's kind of your fault. Be better and you'll get better. Anyway, Jarrod and Chris dive deep into the NBA – who's tall, who's short and that Darren Collison is still playing – and talk about what they don't like in porn. Are you gay if you don't like looking at penises? Jarrod has the answer.
From UCLA To the NBA!!! Darren Collison has an amazing and humble story. He always had the mentality that he could learn and grow from others. As he started his basketball journey he learned from coaches, at UCLA he learned from Jordan Farmar and in the NBA he learned from many but one specific guard was Chris Paul. To be willing to humble himself to have the mindset that he could learn from anyone is uncharacteristic. Darren has a team first mentality and that made him an enjoyable piece to players and NBA GM's alike. Darren holds the record for most games played in a UCLA career. The Lakers aren't just on a two-game winning streak. (It's depressing that a pair of consecutive wins qualifies as a shift, but that's the world we currently live in.) They're also getting closer to some interesting roster decisions regarding the futures of Avery Bradley, Stanley Johnson, Darren Collison and perhaps even someone like DeAndre Jordan along the roster fringes. That in large part played a role in the trading of Rajon Rondo, which became official on Monday. Rondo went to Cleveland in a three-way deal with the Knicks that set up the former Laker champ with more playing time on a surprisingly good team (indicative of the respect and affection he garnered with the purple and gold brass, and in particular, Frank Vogel). It also saved L.A. about $4M in luxury tax money, which could create flexibility down the road.In any event, the team will soon have to decide about Johnson and Collison's next deals (their 10-day contracts have expired) and whether to guarantee Bradley's contract before January 7th. Collison doesn't appear likely to be retained, but the Kamenetzkys would be shocked if Johnson and Bradley didn't remain on the team until season's end. Both have earned their spots (and in Bradley's case, mea culpas from the doubting K Bros), and are also cool stories in a season that's been largely depressing. It's always fun when easy to root for players succeed.Speaking of which, Malik Monk is another likable dude who's been absolutely killing it of late, and throughout the season in general. During Monday's practice, Monk shared some thoughts about this experience of betting on himself with the Lakers. Plus, he reveals the deep influence Nick Young played in his life!HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: The Lakers have officially traded Rondo, which has some (positive) financial ramifications for the Lakers.SEGMENT 2: The futures of Bradley and Johnson.SEGMENT 3: Thoughts on Monk's season (and right arm).Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Well, Saturday's Christmas experience wasn't exactly satisfying. Another huge game for LeBron James, another loss for the Lakers who are now two games under .500 and sliding in the West. Saturday was especially irritating, both for players and fans, because it featured all the stuff that has plagued the team all season. They fell down big, early. They came back! They fell down .They came back! And it seemed like they had a chance to pull it out, but then Russell Westbrook (4-20 overall) reverted to early season form, helping crush the Lakers attack at critical moments, while also committing a couple defensive lapses. So despite a few weeks of generally solid play, the knives and pitchforks were out for Westbrook on Lakers Twitter, despite LeBron James defending his teammate after the game. Some suggested (again) he not finish games, or not start them, or even be traded.None of those things are going to happen, for reasons explained within.Meanwhile, the Lakers have to try and figure out how to cope with the remaining time Anthony Davis will be out. (They have to cope with the time he's back, too, but first things first). What can be done to try and win some games, so the ground left to make up at his return isn't insurmountable? Perhaps it starts with some new players? To that end, the Lakers welcomed two of them on Saturday. Darren Collison finally played for the Lakers after a couple years of retirement/courtship. He didn't do a lot.Former Pistons lottery pick Stanley Johnson, however, made an impact. Always a plus defender, Johnson's athleticism on the wing glowed like neon on a team lacking that trait. He didn't score much - Johnson never does - but could he be the type of player the Lakers need going forward? And if the answer is yes, what does it say about the way this team was constructed? Because there were a few folks (basically everyone) noting they could use a Stanley Johnson type (if not Stanley Johnson) even over the summer.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Stanley Johnson looked like a natural fit in his debut with the Lakers, as the team added both him and Darren Collison to 10-day contracts. In this episode, Pete and Mike discuss why his synergy with the team makes sense, the continuing domination of the LeBron at the 5 groups, and how the Brooklyn game illuminated some of Russell Westbrook's worst attributes. It's that time of the year when the NBA starts leaking some games on the schedule before the official release. And because the Lakers are who they are, they'll inevitably end up among those in the mix. Thus, it's no surprise that among the three days' worth of games announced, the Lakers are included in each of them. They'll be hosting the Golden State Warriors on opening night (Oct.19), followed by the Phoenix Suns later that week (Oct. 22). And in news that should shock roughly nobody, the Christmas Day extravaganza will feature the Lakers vs. the Brooklyn Nets in what is the marquee-est of marquee matches. It is by definition too early to know much of anything meaningful, but how do the Kamenetzkys think the Lakers match up against these three very different teams, and what do they think of the games in general? From there, they discuss the report from Yahoo!'s Chris Haynes that the Lakers worked out free agent guards Isaiah Thomas, Darren Collison and Mike James. (LeBron James and Russell Westbrook even took part in Thomas' workout!) Do these three guys make sense for the roster? Are there better options who'd fill greater areas of need still on the market? Either way, according to Haynes, the Lakers' plan to potentially sign two free agents and leave the final roster spot open would likely mean deep reserve Jared Dudley likely won't return.Hosts: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: A look at the opening day game vs. Golden State. Can the Warriors regain their old form and challenge the Lakers for the Western Conference crown? (A lot will depend on Klay Thompson's health.)SEGMENT 2: We also know the exact dates of games against the Suns and Nets. How do the Lakers match up now against the 2021 Western Conference champs? Or Brooklyn, the betting favorite to win it all?SEGMENT 3: Free agents are working out in El Segundo! Who makes sense? Who doesn't? In Episode 835, Sean and Katie Heindl discuss the Raptors decision to keep Terence Davis through his guarantee on Sunday and why that's disappointing, however expected it may have been. They discuss their thoughts on the idea that the Raptors hands were tied by the CBA and unable to release Davis for non-basketball reasons without facing a PA grievance and what the Raptors could be doing to uphold their morals while waiting for the investigation to conclude. Next, they talk about how their fandom may be affected if Davis remains on the team, even if he is handed out a suspension by the league like in the Darren Collison situation. Lastly, they run through some small team transactions from over the weekend.Today's Local Business of the Day is Glad Day Book Shop at 499 Church St., which is the oldest LGBTQ book store in the world. We look at six options Phoenix could prioritize once July 1 arrives and how their playoff performances could dictate the market.Ricky Rubio is a savvy facilitator. Terry Rozier is an upside play. Darren Collison has all the ingredients to be a solid floor general. What's the price going to be for all three, and how would they fit alongside Devin Booker in the Suns' backcourt?Thaddeus Young, Nikola Mirotic and Al-Farouq Aminu top the list for power forward targets. Boston's injury report underwent a few changes, but Jaylen Brown is now OUT, and Marcus Morris is a maybe for the Celtics showdown at the Pacers. Al Horford is probable, while Darren Collison is doubtful for Indiana. A win by Boston puts the No. 4 seed squarely in the Celtics' hands, with a tie-breaker and a one-game lead with two to play. (Programming Note: Locked On Bulls was recorded before the Chicago Bulls trade was made, Jordan details the Bulls trade at the beginning of the episode. The Bulls acquired Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot and cash considerations from Oklahoma City. They also waived Carmelo Anthony).Locked On Bulls is back with a fresh episode, the guys talk about the biggest story in the NBA yesterday with superstar Kristaps Porzingis being traded from the New York Knicks to the Dallas Mavericks. The guys also get into the Chicago Bulls sending scouts to visit veteran point guards Ricky Rubio (Utah Jazz) and Darren Collison (Indiana Pacers) as potential trade deadline acquisitions to help push Kris Dunn. The guys spend a decent amount of time talking about how the strategy of both the Knicks and Mavericks is risky but could pay off big time for both teams. The guys circle back to how the Bulls situation is a little bit different but they seem to never swing big like other teams. Can the Bulls ever be in a position to acquire a star like Dallas has or has the rebuild been put in reverse with the season they have had?Locked On Bulls spends some time talking about the latest report from the Chicago Sun-Times' Joe Cowley about the Bulls sending scouts to see veteran point guards Ricky Rubio of the Utah Jazz and Darren Collison of the Indiana Pacers. The report cites that the Bulls are looking to add a veteran guard who can push Kris Dunn and also leave open the option of an expiring contract that gives them flexibility this summer. Is this too late of a project? The guys have some interest in Rubio beyond Kris Dunn because of his connection with Zach LaVine. The guys go more in depth about Zach LaVine's struggles this season. Jordan asks the question about whether LaVine's difference this year is team (Bulls roster construction), scheme (Jim Boylen as the head coach), or is it Zach LaVine himself?
