Welcome back to the Week 1 edition of the Vikings Postgame Report. The Vikings drop their home opener to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 20-17 at U.S. Bank Stadium. Costly turnovers and penalties seemingly made the difference, as the Vikings Offense was -3 in the take/give stat, with 2 of them occurring inside the Tampa Bay 30-yard line. Cousins went 33-of-44 passing, threw 2 touchdown passes and an interception. One of those touchdown passes was Rookie Jordan Addison's first in the NFL. Alexander Mattison caught the other and had 44 combined yards in the game. Justin Jefferson had another great statistical day with 9 receptions for 150 yards receiving. Defensively, OLB Danielle Hunter had the lone sack and Cam Bynum led the team with 10 combined tackles. Offensively for the Bucs, Baker Mayfield was under pressure throughout the game, but threw 2 touchdowns when it counted most. He finished the game with 173 yards passing and 11 yards rushing. In the end, Tampa's Kicker Chase McLaughlin's 57-yard field goal was enough for the Bucs to leave Minneapolis with the opening day victory. Vikings Vox Paul Allen and Color Analyst Pete Bercich recap the missteps that led to the loss, look ahead to the 'opportunity' that Thursday brings in Phili, and review the Bucs rushing strategy that helped earn them the victory. Plus, Head Coach Kevin O'Connell and Kirk Cousins both spoke to the media at the postgame press conference. All of this and more is in the 2023 Week 1 edition of the Vikings Postgame Report.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
When you "call in" in radio, it's usually a couple of days before anybody in management notices, lol, weird man Headlines and Sports with Coach O possibly going to coach Northwestern?
Happy Thursday! We start off the show chatting about Paula Poundstone & Great Van Susteren, we chat about wearing a sport coat with no shirt, Coach O is not going to Northwestern, we have a farting & politics story, we have some news about Creed, we chat about zippy around in fast cars & we do Would You Rather.
Just when you think you've heard it all, you hear something even crazier. According to a report on a Northwestern blog, Inside NU, sources say that former LSU head football coach Ed Orgeron, who led Joe Burrow and the 2019 LSU Tigers football team to a national championship, would be interested in the Northwestern Wildcats head football coach opening. Former Northwestern player and head coach Pat Fitzgerald was fired for cause earlier this week after a former Northwestern football player came forward with allegations of graphic hazing in the locker room. There are reports that Fitzgerald knew of the alleged hazing which cost him his job of 17 years. Northwestern defensive coordinator David Braun will serve as the interim head coach for now and likely for the entirety of the 2023 season and the Wildcats will re-evaluate their coaching options after the conclusion of the season. So why would Coach O be interested in the job? Is the job interested in HIM?
