Welcome to the episode 33 of "Women In The Music Industry", a podcast that shines a spotlight on the remarkable women who are breaking barriers and making their mark in an industry that has long been dominated by men. My guest today is none other than singer, songwriter, and one half of the multiple award-winning Vancouver-based alternative rock band “DEAR ROUGE”, Danielle McTaggart! For over 10 years now Dear Rouge, the alternative rock duo of Drew and Danielle McTaggart, have been winning fans over consistently and hitting new career heights. Following their major label debut record, Black To Gold, the couple picked up multiple Top 10 radio hits, a SOCAN Songwriting Prize, and a Juno for Breakthrough Group of the Year. Dear Rouge continued their upward trajectory with their sophomore album PHASES (Deluxe) which included the lead single Boys & Blondes and the #1 Alternative Rock hit, Live Through The Night. Along the way, they opened for artists like Phantogram, Lights, and Our Lady Peace, and wowed crowds on festival stages from coast to coast with their energetic and dynamic live performances. The band continued to solidify their presence in the Canadian music landscape with their third full length record Spirit. The record spawned the #1 hit Fake Fame, and the band picked up an Indie Award for Group of the Year at Canadian Music Week, before a packed summer of touring that included opening for Vance Joy and a tour supporting Canadian legends Metric. All the tracks from Spirit, along with the band's previous singles have seen heavy recurrent radio airplay, leading to Dear Rouge being the most played Canadian band on alternative radio in 2022. The band then returned to the studio with acclaimed producer Gus van Go (The Beaches, The Stills). The duo's new single Goon is out now. Hailing from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, The New Hires are a dynamic indie rock band that formed amidst the challenges of the pandemic. Founded from the depths of Kijiji, this spirited group has quickly risen to prominence in the Ottawa music scene, captivating audiences with their catchy hooks and energetic performances. In early 2022, The New Hires stepped onto the local music scene with the release of their debut single, 'Save First & Foremost.' As of August 2023, the 5-piece has sold-out some of Ottawa's most respected venues, opened for Juno award-winning Dear Rouge at the Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival and garnered recognition as one of the top 100 contenders in the CBC Searchlight Annual Talent Search. These achievements are a testament to the band's growing impact and the admiration they have earned from both fans and industry peers alike. https://thenewhires.com/home

On this episode, we explore the importance technology plays in business. The Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses' data shows fourteen percent of small firms say they are considering declaring bankruptcy or winding up their businesses. To break it down a bit better, the number of threatened businesses could be as high as 222,000, depending on how the coming months unfold, jeopardizing potentially, close to 3M jobs. There is no doubt that the pandemic has forever changed how we work and do business. We have become connoisseurs of technology and it is here to stay. This country is built on small businesses. These are the stories of the changing face of technology and its key to the survival of Canadian small businesses.Featured on this episodeColdwater Communications: Theodora Jean, Founder OXYGEN Kamloops: Lacey Christink owner and Ex-owner: Dina Mcleod Baking With Candice: Candice Funk 1Fish 2fish : Heather Jenkins Artist FeaturedDear Rouge is a JUNO Award-winning, Vancouver-based alternative rock band formed in 2012 by Drew and Danielle McTaggart. We start the show off with a review for "Aquarela do Brasil" with an in depth look into the culture and music culture of Brazil. A poem by Al Purdy starts the Jawbone Segment which then goes into a shout out to Rodney DeCroo and a review for "Much Ado About Nothing". We spend a good rest of the time talking about our continued love with "Much Ado About Nothing" along with a shout out to Dawn Pemberton, who is singing at the Labyrinth of St. Paul's Anglican Church, and bands we love, such as Dear Rouge, Modern Space, and The Escapes.
Drew and Danielle McTaggart are Dear Rouge. They are incredibly talented in their own rights but the two added together is literaly flipping magic - like, call Hogwarts already, this shit is incredible. Danielle's stage presence is nothing short of miraculous in its energy and talent, but when you see these kids lock eyes during a few songs and the silly grins they have with each other - says it all. Drew tells me about marrying Danielle, and then losing his senses. Both stories are pretty much perfection. He was such an interesting character offstage and not at all what I expected. He was quietly funny and super open about his life, which as a story collector of the highest order (are you reading this CBC? yay!) made me super happy. In this episode you will hear their award winning "I heard I had" song and my favourite by them "Black to Gold". They won the 2016 Juno for Breakthrough Artist of the Year and deserve every accolade that comes with it. www.dearrouge.com Find them on Spotify, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, ITunes and my earholes almost er'day. xo Paula

Tune in to hear snippets from our conversations with the likes of Alert the Medic, Dallas Smith, Kalle Mattson, Trinity Bradshaw, Ben Stevenson, High Valley, Kandle, and Dear Rouge. We appreciate your support and look forward to bringing you more great content in 2015, with our first post-holiday episode premiering on January 7, 2015.
We're bringing you three interesting interviews on this week's show, including a pre-show chat with synth-rock duo and Peak Performance Project winners Dear Rouge plus catch-ups with Justin Evans of MixGenius and Ian MacKay of Re:Sound. After signing with Universal Music Canada earlier this fall, Dear Rouge are getting set to drop their debut full-length, Black to Gold, in early 2015. The band had a great 2014, as in addition to the signing, they commaded attention and earned a heap of new fans through their energetic performaces on club and festival stages alike. Also, Mike catches up with Ian MacKay, the President of Re:Sound. Re:Sound represents and safeguards the rights of its artist and record companies and ensures that they are fairly compensated for the broadcast and public performance of their music in Canada. Especially topical in this talk are MacKay's comments on the future of music streaming royalties in Canada. And finally, Justin Evans of MixGenius speaks with Mike about the incoming paradigm for music production. Services like MixGenius provide instant audio production tools to help musicians on a budget add some impact to their output. Find out more about the company and what these services might mean for the industry.
