A favourite album of other artists, and Jeff's too, we go back to 1994 with the landmark Columbia label release that put the name Jeff Buckley into the world and his music into the hearts and minds of fans who this time get to hear the reflections shared after his passing, by Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace, and by Jeff Buckley's mom, Mary Guibert, plus Jeff Woods' own reflections of a special time in music history, when Buckley and his friend Chris Cornell roamed the earth and sang like nobody does anymore.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Duncan Coutts reflects on 30 years with Our Lady Peace, the art of restraint on bass, and how he learned to stop feeling like a guest in the band.

Welcome back to The Drum Panel—a roundtable-style discussion on all things drums. This week, I'm joined—as almost always—by my co-host Eric Urrea, and today's special guest is Jeremy Taggart: longtime drummer for Our Lady Peace and co-host of the Taggart and Torrens podcast, where he blends his love of music, comedy, and all things Canadian. At the end of the day, we're just good buddies—and those are the kinds of people I like to have on The Drum Panel. This episode kicks off in the middle of a little rant I was having about a recent encounter with David Garibaldi… which, if you stick around long enough, you just might hear for yourself. Let's hop in. Cheers. In this episode, we discuss: Jeremy's dream piece of music memorabilia The records he wishes he could've been a fly on the wall for Making peace with not keeping every skill sharp—and choosing what to let slide to serve your personal sound Singing while drumming A round of Word Association And of course…Trivia! --- Get Your Copy of the Drummers on Drumming Book Today!

In an age of overwhelmingly dumb AI that is constantly shoved in our faces, it's nice to remember a time when we still thought AI and robotics had a chance to make our lives better. In 1999, author and futurist Ray Kurzweil wrote a book called "The Age of Spiritual Machines", in which he predicts AI reaching a point where it has it's own consciousness. In this future, AI will have already cured disease and improved the human condition, but as it grows in sentience and gains rights, humanity (as we know it) slowly becomes obsolete. This isn't portrayed as a bad thing as much as just a new step in evolution with artificial life gaining spirituality... But after reading Kurzweil's book, Our Lady Peace took issue with a few things. In their 2000 album, "Spiritual Machines", they take on the complicated nature of humanity, exploring experiences that are uniquely human, such as having an out of body experience, or gaining wisdom out of negative life experiences. There's a lot of great thoughts in the album and they don't sound half bad to boot!Aaaaand for today's guest for this Canadian alt rock group is a Canadian (in her own right), Danielle MacQuarrie!!! And don't worry Wisconsinites, we proposed the idea of seceding to Canada and Danielle is going to bring it up with The Prime Minister! You know how every now and then, an album comes along that just gets into your bones, and it's hard to describe just how grateful you are it exists? (If you don't know that feeling, I'm sorry, but keep searching for it). Tamara Lindeman working as The Weather Station has make two such records I feel that way about; 2019's “Ignorance” and 2025's “Humanhood”, released on January 17th. “Humanhood” is a brave, striking and beautiful piece of work that just keeps on giving back, the more you mine it. It's not designed for casual listening; the level of nuance involved, the little interludes between songs, and it's lyrical themes of self-identity in crisis, set against grander concerns about the environment and the post-truth era we find ourselves in, deserve your full attention. It's the sort of album where a different moment or detail might hit your each time you go back to it. It can't imagine it being topped this year. Our conversation takes in everything from depersonalisation disorder and OCD, to taking photos of the sky, unrealistic roles for teenagers and in movies, Canadian rock-band Our Lady Peace, and quietly making the greatest album of 2025. In this episode, we talk with James and Brian from Head Full Of Ghosts. It was great to talk with them about their band, their latest album called 10.23, their influences, and more. This band puts a new spin on the 90's rock and grunge stylings. In some ways I felt like I was listening to new Filter, Seven Mary Three, or Our Lady Peace when listening to Head Full Of Ghosts. On this episode of Vinyl Verdict, Bell, Jamie and Adam listen to Bell's next pick, Our Lady Peace's "Spiritual Machines". Released in 2000, it is their fourth studio album. A staple of Canadian rock radio since their first album released in 1994, this album also received heavy radio play. Much of the radio support for this album was carried by the singles "In Repair" and "Life". The album is loosely inspired by futurist Ray Kurzweil's book "The Age of Spiritual Machines" and features him on several spoken word tracks throughout the album. But does this vision for the future hold up 24 years after release? Will the boys yearn for "The Wonderful Future", or will they ask each other "Are You Sad?" Come along and find out!
Raine and Duncan from Our Lady Peace join iHeartRadio's Josie Dye to talk about THIRTY Years of music - New Music and a whole new OLP Sound? Raine Maida talks about how he met his wife, the lovely Chantal Kreviazuk, and their incredible journey together!

Clare Belford (comedian) returns to the show on the last of our pre-tapes before Dan gets back from Japan, and it's a fun one, as Clare blocks any "sexy chat" spam DM she gets invited into but notices one commonality...a fellow comedian showing up in these chats, and subsequently following some of these women. We don't reveal who it is, but you can maybe guess! No guessing about this episode being fun though, as Clare tells us about her new dog (who snores adorably throughout), and we discuss The Leftovers, Clare's dad's dog obedience tips, falling asleep at comedy shows, and our friend DBJ trapped themself in a box. Plus, Clare gets a confusing tax slip, a man gets caught in a court proceeding, and Twiggy owns an interviewer. If you want something to do that's a lot less confusing than your taxes, head on over to patreon.com/blockedparty, where a simple $5 donation gets you access to our entire back catalogue and THREE brand-new bonus episodes a month. Last week, Sequoia Holmes returned to the show for a Canadian Education episode, as we watched the MuchMusic staple "intimate & interactive" with Canadian legends Our Lady Peace. We also have ad-free episodes, an exclusive Discord, and more, so check it out! Clare Belford is a comedian who will be at Edmonton's Grindstone Comedy Festival in a couple of weeks from July 3-7. Starting as the inexplicable Rainbow Butt Monkeys in the early 90s, the band wisely changed their name after the 1995 debut release and reconfigured their sound on 1998's Tip as Finger Eleven. With the capable Arnold Lanni behind the board, the band combined contemporary elements of Our Lady Peace, Helmet, Quicksand, and more in their post-grunge approach. A pair of big, thick guitar sounds with a rock steady rhythm section give singer Scott Anderson a strong base to work with, like on the riff-heavy "Condenser" and "Glimpse." But the band has multiple gears, like the subdued "Awake and Dreaming" and Tool-lite closer, "Swallowtail." If there is anything working against the band, it's the restraint they adhere to, keeping second guitar leads to a minimum and occasionally drifting vocally into Raine Maida territory. Songs In This Episode Intro - Condenser 26:46 - Alone 35:33 - Quicksand 40:25 - Swallowtail Outro - Glimpse Support the podcast, join the DMO UNION at Patreon. Welcome to the episode 33 of "Women In The Music Industry", a podcast that shines a spotlight on the remarkable women who are breaking barriers and making their mark in an industry that has long been dominated by men. My guest today is none other than singer, songwriter, and one half of the multiple award-winning Vancouver-based alternative rock band “DEAR ROUGE”, Danielle McTaggart! For over 10 years now Dear Rouge, the alternative rock duo of Drew and Danielle McTaggart, have been winning fans over consistently and hitting new career heights. Following their major label debut record, Black To Gold, the couple picked up multiple Top 10 radio hits, a SOCAN Songwriting Prize, and a Juno for Breakthrough Group of the Year. Dear Rouge continued their upward trajectory with their sophomore album PHASES (Deluxe) which included the lead single Boys & Blondes and the #1 Alternative Rock hit, Live Through The Night. Along the way, they opened for artists like Phantogram, Lights, and Our Lady Peace, and wowed crowds on festival stages from coast to coast with their energetic and dynamic live performances. The band continued to solidify their presence in the Canadian music landscape with their third full length record Spirit. The record spawned the #1 hit Fake Fame, and the band picked up an Indie Award for Group of the Year at Canadian Music Week, before a packed summer of touring that included opening for Vance Joy and a tour supporting Canadian legends Metric. All the tracks from Spirit, along with the band's previous singles have seen heavy recurrent radio airplay, leading to Dear Rouge being the most played Canadian band on alternative radio in 2022. The band then returned to the studio with acclaimed producer Gus van Go (The Beaches, The Stills). The duo's new single Goon is out now. If you are enjoying this video series, please rate/review/subscribe/tell everyone about it. Every little bit helps. Instagram: @daniellemctaggart & @dearrouge Web: www.dearrouge.com
This week we present another installment of our ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. We're talking about a 90's band that most consider a 1 hit wonder alternative group. SPACEHOG is much more than most give them credit for. They were a unique band that carried the flag more for classic 70's glam and power pop than alternative & grunge. If you are a fan of Bowie, Queen, Iggy Pop, or T.Rex, you owe it to yourself to listen to the SPACEHOG catalog. The countdown has begun, it's 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and baby we're a SPACEHOG!What is it that we do here at InObscuria? Well, we exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This episode covers a band that is clearly in the Forgotten category for most (well, except for that one song). You may think you know them, but you probably don't really know them… Until now. As always, our hope is that we turn you on to something new.Songs this week include:Spacehog – “Cruel To Be Kind” from Resident Alien (1995)Spacehog – “The Horror” from The Craft (Music From The Motion Picture) (1996)Spacehog – “Goodbye Violet Race” from The Chinese Album (1998)Spacehog – “This Is America” from The Hogyssey (2001)Spacehog - “Let The Bee Sting You” from B-Side from The Hogyssey (2001)Spacehog – “Remains” from Wreckroom Session (2012)Spacehog – “I Wish You Well” from As It Is On Earth (2013)Spacehog – “Zeroes” from Resident Alien (1995)Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

Today's guest makes me feel like royalty. It's drummer Michael Bland and he has worked with some of the best in the business. But before that, he played in school and found out he had perfect pitch! Finding that out helped solidify his decision to be a musician. But his parents weren't exactly thrilled about the idea and pushed him to have a backup plan. That is, until Prince called the house looking for Michael. This started a trend of Michael being offered jobs on stage in the middle of jams. Michael was the drummer for The New Power Generation during a time where Prince was reinventing himself. But Prince isn't the only high profile artist Michael has worked with. There's Paul Westerberg, Chaka Khan, Maxwell, Nick Jonas, & Soul Asylum. Michael relays some behind-the-scenes stories about Prince, Paisley Park, and The Paisley Park Power Trio, among other things. And that ties in to a new project he's working on with long-time collaborator, Sonny Thompson called (Br)others. They have a single coming out and are playing a show with a lot of The New Power Generation. Check Michael out @michaelblandofficial & @brothersmusic2024 on Instagram. Check out Brothers Forlife on Facebook. And look for Soul Asylum on tour this summer with Our Lady Peace, Live, & Stone Temple Pilots. Look for us @PerformanceAnx on socials. Albums That Changed My Life is a spin-off podcast about Brian's favorite albums. On this episode, he talks about his long-time love of Canadian rockers Our Lady Peace, and flips track-by-track through their 2005 record Healthy in Paranoid Times.
"The Long Goodbye" With close to ten fabulous albums under their musical belts, Candlebox have had quite a career. The Seattle outfit has sold millions of records, played Letterman and Woodstock, toured the world with the likes of everyone from Rush, Metallica, Foo Fighters and Our Lady Peace, and over the years counted among their personnel folks from bands like Pearl Jam, Dig and Ugly Kid Joe. And not only that, but their new album The Long Goodbye, might very well be their best yet. A smoldering blast of catchy hard rock and grungy bliss, The Long Goodbye is an affecting song cycle that burns with smoldering intensity on songs like the defiant Punks and bids farewell with the moving Hourglass, which is one of the best album closers in recent memory. So if Candlebox has never sounded better, why are they calling it a day on their career? Well, Kevin will explain and his explanation is hard to argue with. As a fan, it's a tough pill to swallow and in the back of your head you remember that they had breaks before--one was five years and one was a decade, so you think maybe this is a false alarm, but trust us: it's not. So when you listen to this, forget you're a fan and just be a person for a second. And if you can divide those two parts of yourself, you'll see, Kevin's decision to walk away is one that makes sense. www.candleboxrocks.com www.bombshellradio.com www.alexgreenonline.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.embersarts.com Twitter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

The back half of the 1990s was deluged with more post-grunge bands that we can count, and cutting through the noise wasn't always easy. For bands like Black Lab, who aimed for both radio and something more interesting, that meant not reaching the chart-topping highs of bands like Our Lady Peace, Semisonic, or Live. Their 1997 debut You Body Above Me for Geffen is a prime example of making the most of the back-half album tracks, as vocalist Paul Durham takes some inventive detours with his vocals, bouncing between the emotive lead single "Wash It Away" and the more expressive attack of "All the Money in the World" or Bring It On." A cursory pass may leave the listener wondering what the fuss is about, but slap on the headphones and you'll hear some impressive choices from each instrument, playing off of and pushing each other for something more with a clear and full sound that impresses even today. Why did Jason LaChance want to talk with Jason Rockam? Despite being the frontman for Slaves On Dope and a highly respected radio DJ, two industries that often include partying in excess Jason got sober in his early twenties. In his words, enough damage was done in the 8 years or so of drinking and drugging which started around the age of 12. Now a husband and father, Jason is of service to others as much as possible when called upon. Regarding enthusiasm, energy, and passion for music, Jason Rockman is tough to beat. Having been a professional musician for almost 25 years, he has sold over 120,000 records worldwide and collaborated with rock 'n roll hall of famers Darryl McDaniels (Run DMC) and Chuck D (Public Enemy). He has also shared the stage with the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Our Lady Peace, Pantera, Korn, Motörhead, Queens of the Stone Age, and countless others. It is fair to say that Jason has been there AND bought the T-shirt. He is the lead singer of Slaves On Dope, an entertainment correspondent for CTV national news, and a spokesperson for both Montreal and Ottawa Comic cons, as well as the Heavy Montréal music festival. He brings his love of life, music, movies, and pop culture to his audience five nights a week on Amped with The Rockman on CHOM 97.7 radio. He is also the host and co-creator of TV's "Geek Me!". Big Fat Five: A Podcast Financially Supported by Big Fat Snare Drum
This week's guest is Jeremy Taggart. Jeremy has been mentioned on the pod of few times in other drummer's top 5 in regards to his previous work with the band Our Lady Peace…which Jeremy joined when he was 17 and remained their drummer until 2014. He's also a fellow podcaster with his show “Tarrant & Torrens”…which we talk about at the end of the show (it's also a musical duo)…plus he's the co-auther of the book "Canadianity ". Jeremy and my mutual friend (and yet another friend of the pod) Mike Robinson of Blame My Youth, K Flay, Oliver Tree sums up Jeremy's playing in a great way. Quote “Jeremy's drumming just seems so conversational and almost stream of conscious. But at the same time so deliberate”. I mean...that's the gaol right? We also get into his friendship…it'll make you love Elvin even more. All in all, Jeremy has an Infectious laugh and youthful playfulness thoughout this whole conversation. I loved it. Please enjoy this chat with Jeremey Taggart about the 5 records that shaped him into the player he is today. After the (ahem) fallout of our #1 pick for the Top 25 RPGs of All Time, we got together with Khee Hoon Chan and Jay Castello to talk about whether it deserves to be the top-rated RPG of all time. How much does the setting, politics, and sidequests elevate it? And how much do the VATS System and bugs weigh it down? We discuss as part of part of our big 24 hour charity stream in which we were able to raise more than $10,000 for Trans Lifeline! Also in this episode: Valkyrie Elysium trail is here and it looks... good? It looks good!
