Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak and Flock of Dimes, Roberto Lange (aka Helado Negro), Hand Habits' Meg Duffy and saxophonist Joseph Shabason discuss music as a form of healing and the impact it has both on themselves and those who listen to it, not being able to find the right thing to say when they're approached after a show, and how selfishness can benefit the creative process. Roberto Lange, aka Helado Negro, is an Ecuadorian-American singer, songwriter and producer. His 2019 album, This Is How You Smile, was critically adored and his newest, Far In, is due later this year. Musician and guitarist Meg Duffy hails from New York, and is the founder, songwriter and sole permanent member of indie rock group Hand Habits, who released their latest album Placeholder in 2019. They have also written and performed with The War on Drugs and Weyes Blood. Canadian saxophonist and ambient electronic artist Joseph Shabason has worked with Destroyer, The War On Drugs, Hannah Georgas, and many more. His latest album, The Fellowship, explores the duality of the Jewish and Muslim household he grew up in.

On the September 12, 2020 edition of the Richard Crouse Show we meet Jeff Gibbs and Ozzie Zehner, director and producer of the climate change movie “Battle for the Planet of the Humans.” The controversial documentary is a harsh look at how the environmental movement has lost the battle through well-meaning but disastrous choices. Then we spend time with singer-songwriter Hannah Georgas. Her new album, “All That Emotion,” is a lush and lovely record, produced by Aaron Dessner, hot off his work on Taylor Swift’s recent smash, folklore. Here’s some info on The Richard Crouse Show!: Each week on the nationally syndicated Richard Crouse Show, Canada’s most recognized movie critic brings together some of the most interesting and opinionated people from the movies, television and music to put a fresh spin on news from the world of lifestyle and pop-culture. Tune into this show to hear in-depth interviews with actors and directors, to find out what’s going on behind the scenes of your favourite shows and movies and get a new take on current trends. Recent guests include Ethan Hawke, director Brad Bird, comedian Gilbert Gottfried, Eric Roberts, Brian Henson, Jonathan Goldsmith a.k.a. “The most interesting man in the world,” and best selling author Linwood Barclay.

Imagine you're a Canadian musician about to go international. You've been working your way up the charts, year by year, with awards, acclaimed albums, and bigger and bigger tours. You've now got a new album on the way and a full European tour planned. You're ready for this to be the biggest year of your career. And it's February 2020... The music industry has been 'disrupted' a whole bunch of times in recent years, but never have the lives of the people who make the music and the thousands of people who make the magic happen been changed like this. When will live shows return? When would you feel comfortable at a packed concert? How do non-superstar artists survive without tour income? And how well can living room concerts replicate the intimacy of a killer live show? GUEST: Hannah Georgas, pop rock singer/songwriter

This week's guest is Live Sound Technician and Audio Instructor, Swann Barat. Swann is one of the smartest people I know, has one of the coolest first names you've ever heard, and has always been an inspiration to me, and others in her life. She has toured North America and Europe with some really cool acts, including Hannah Georgas, The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer, and The Belle Game. She is currently the House Sound Tech at Vancouver's Fox Cabaret, and an Audio Instructor at Nimbus School of Recording and Media. Swann Barat has been called one of Canada's best sound tech's, and what's really cool about Swann is that she is one of those rare people who pretty much knew exactly what she wanted to do in life by the time she was 16, and has succeeded in pursuing her dream. In this episode, Swann tells her story, from being raised by her grandparents in rural France, to deciding to make the move across the world to Vancouver, BC, to touring with some of her favourite artists, and what exactly it means to be a Sound Tech. I'd say more but I don't want to spoil the story for you… ----more----  LINKS to stuff we talk about in the episode: The Fox Cabaret Nimbus School of Recording and Media Girls Rock Camp Vancouver Soundgirls.org Women in Music Women in Music on Facebook Blind Pilot Hannah Georgas The Belle Game The Pack A.D. In 2014 Hannah Georgas was touring with City & Colour in Europe, kind of a big deal. That same winter one of her songs was used on HBO's incredibly loved series Girls, and Hannah hit the map beyond the Polaris long list. One of Canada's most incredible song writers and singers, Hannah brings it hard on stage, killing it across venues big and eclectic. I sat down with her backstage before her Koi Festival performance where she knocked the audience straight down with her electro-indy vibes and stunning vocals.  Hannah shared a story with me about getting lost on Baffin island with her then crush and how finding her way back cured that puppy love dead!  www.hannahgeorgas.com 2016 Album For Evelyn available on ITUnes

This week on TransCanada Music West (Friday at 8pm MT), we bring you the live synth-pop sounds of Rococode, recorded live at Rifflandia! The duo is made up of Laura Smith and Andrew Braun, a pair of Vancouver-based musicians who met while attending jazz college. Laura made her start in music backing up some of the biggest indie acts in the Vancouver scene, including Said the Whale, Prairie Cat, Language Arts and Hannah Georgas. Andrew, who hails from Manitoba, was a backing player on Laura’s solo debut ‘Sea of Stars’ in 2008. It wasn’t long before the creative relationship evolved, and the duo collaborate on their 2012 debut Guns, Sex, and Glory, produced by Mother Mother front-man Ryan Guildemond. On this episode of TransCanada Music West, you’ll get a live preview of songs set for release next week on the band’s sophomore LP,  Don’t Worry It Will Be Dark Soon. The live concert recording features Jason Cook on drums, Robbie Driscoll on bass, Laura Smith on keys and vocals, and Andrew Braun on guitar, keys and vocals.
