Industrial-Electronic music legend Bill Leeb (Front Line Assembly, Delerium) signs to Iconic US-based label Metropolis Records to debut his solo album. Titled 'Model Kollapse', this record explores the intricacies of artificial intelligence and the very survival of humanity itself. Based in Vancouver, Bill Leeb is the mastermind behind electro-industrial scene mainstays Front Line Assembly and ambient-pop duo Delerium, having gotten his start with Skinny Puppy (under the pseudonym Wilhelm Schroeder). He is also a key member of other occasional recording projects, including Noise Unit, Intermix, Cyberaktif and Conjure One,  just to name a few.Leeb acknowledges the role that Metropolis Records has played in his recording career since the late 1990s, noting that “Metropolis Records have been and are one of the most important labels for alternative music on this planet and this album was made possible by my long-standing friendship with Dave Heckman (RIP), who continuously has supported us through the ages and gave us complete artistic freedom”. Tragically, Heckman died in the summer of 2022.  "I'm honored to fulfill my father's (Dave Heckman) lifelong vision and to be doing this project with a lifelong family friend I can honestly call family (Bill Leeb). This project is near and dear to all of our hearts here at Metropolis and I know it would make my father proud."   Nina Heckman Watch The Interview : https://www.youtube.com/@DJNocturnaPlease Like, Subscribe and Sharehttps://www.metropolis-records.comhttps://frontlineassembly.bandcamp.com

Today's fascinating episode features Austrian-Canadian electronic musician and producer,  Bill Leeb. Leeb started his musical career with legendary industrial band, Skinny Puppy, going on to form Front Line Assembly in 1986 and new-age ambient act, Delerium a year later. In 1997 Delerium scored a massive, world-wide hit with the track ‘Silence' taken from their ninth studio album, ‘Karma', which is one of my all-time favourite electronic albums of the 1990s. We discus his earliest musical memories and move to Canada from Austria at the age of 14, the recent Front Line Assembly tour with musical heroes, Gary Numan and Ministry and the recording of his first ever solo album, ‘Model Kollapse', which came out  in September.   https://bill-leeb.com Follow Synthetic Dreams on Instagram Title music by Chris Ibbott If you are enjoying the podcast, and like what I do, please support Synthetic Dreams by buying a coffee. The Royal Ritual gets deeply personal, reflective and re-inventive on sophomore album Pleasure Hides Your Needs As disruptive as it was, the pandemic didn't stop The Royal Ritual - the dark/alternative outfit fronted by UK-born musician, composer and producer David Lawrie - from making a dramatic impact on the alternative music scene with the MARTYRS album. The project's new album Pleasure Hides Your Needs simultaneously expands upon and reorients from the cinematic, dark, industrial soundscapes of the debut release. Producer and frontman David trained as a classical pianist from the age of 7 and has worked in the music industry for many years, but The Royal Ritual was born just before the recent Covid-19 pandemic. Initially the project was a studio-based affair, with the debut album MARTYRS being produced in complete isolation in Lawrie's private studio in Northern California. Blending harsh synthetic tones; dark, percussive sound design; and traditional world instruments, a new industrial landscape was forged in The Royal Ritual, with the debut release being well-received by both the wider music press and the goth and industrial music communities. Despite the act's relatively short life thus far, The Royal Ritual has already developed a dedicated following, finding favour with fans of artists like IAMX, Gary Numan, Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, New Model Army and HEALTH. The intervening years have seen David relocate to the UK to concentrate on making his own music as well as working with artists like CocoRosie, Phildel, and IAMX as a producer and remixer. His remix of the title track of IAMX's 2023 album Fault Lines even featured on the EP of the same name, released ahead of the album. David's compositional work also includes award-winning sound design for the acclaimed film Of Shark and Man. #Music #Interview #Community

In a dimly lit underground club, the audience gathered, a congregation of the techno-faithful. The night was young, but the atmosphere was charged with a palpable sense of anticipation. The curtain of reality was about to be drawn back, revealing glimpses of the sublime and the chaotic. As the stage lights flickered to life, Skinny Puppy took their positions. It was a peculiar, chilly autumn evening when the temperature outside seemed to mirror the eerie chill that permeated the venue. “Spahn Dirge (Live)” began its haunting journey, a sonic invocation that pulled the crowd into a trance. Images of distorted realities flashed across screens, intertwining with the hypnotic soundscape. It was as if the audience had stepped through a tear in the fabric of the universe, a glimpse into a surreal and phantasmagorical realm. The live performance was not merely a concert but a communion with the otherworldly. Meanwhile, outside in the drizzle-laden night, a solitary pilgrim embarked on a personal odyssey. With headphones clamped firmly in place, they ventured forth, their every step synchronized with the mournful strains of God's “Lord, I'm On My Way.” The lyrics became a mantra of longing and existential uncertainty, the perfect accompaniment to their solitary voyage. In a world consumed by noise and chaos, two friends sought solace in the simplicity of nature. Their canoe sliced through the tranquil waters of a remote river, and Andy Hawkins and Bill Laswell's “Headwaters” played softly on a portable speaker. The music harmonized with the rustle of leaves and the gentle gurgle of the river, forging a profound connection between man and the natural world. Back within the subterranean club, Echthros unfurled “Iyov” upon the eager assembly. The song was a tempest of aggression and discord, a sonic maelstrom that mirrored modern existence's chaotic pulse. It became a cathartic release, a collective purging of pent-up frustrations and societal dissonance. In the solitude of his studio, Justin Broadrick embarked on a sonic experiment. “Guitar Two” emerged as a mesmerizing composition, distorted guitar sounds woven together in a hypnotic haze. It was a journey into the depths of sound, an exploration of the boundaries of creativity and expression. These diverse musical vignettes, seemingly disjointed in their tonalities and emotional cadence, converge without incongruity. Today's mix is an expedition through the corridors of introspection and catharsis. See you next week. Irene the Black Metal Pastry Chef is back to chaperone Dylan through the bluest movie of all time and the inspiration for countless internet fiction, Underworld. Directed by Len Wiseman, who stole Kate Beckinsale from Michael Sheen, it's a tale of romance and violence, goth cryptid violence that is as vampires battle w̶e̶r̶e̶w̶o̶l̶v̶e̶s̶ lycans while destinies unfold and all manner of complicated love plays out. To complement the drama, it boasts a moody soundtrack courtesy of Danny Lohner featuring Page Hamilton of Helmet, David Bowie, Skinny Puppy, and A Perfect Circle. Even better, the flick's got UV bullets, early 00s vampire fashion, silver goo bullets, shooting out floors to get downstairs, wrist blades, and lycans that learn the hard way why you shouldn't rub-climb on walls. Dylan and Irene also discuss when it is appropriate to cover Nine Inch Nails and when it is not and how Krallice opened for Krallice. Formed in 1989 after changing their name from Code Assault, Code Industry were among the few Black artists in the EBM genre during that era. On Juneteenth 2023, they resissued their 1991 EP Structure with lyrics and liner notes by band member Pen Jackson aka E.N. Sevy. Their lyrics calling out racism and hypocrisy still ring true today. On today's Song of the Day, they deliver seething lyrics against an intense industrial sound, calling to mind '80s faves like Skinny Puppy and Nitzer Ebb. What do you get when you combine two Canadian music legends into one guitar-heavy, power-pop unit that strives to sound like Minneapolis in the 90's? You get SLIP~ons! They come by their brand of rock honestly, with Brock Pytel of The Doughboys on guitar and Brian Minato of Sarah McLachlan on bass. Add to the mix Rob "Shockk" Matharu of The Spitfires on guitar, and Shane Wilson on drums and you've got a rock ‘n' roll quartet with a vibe not unlike The Lemonheads, Hüsker Dü, Ash, The Replacements or Dinosaur Jr. After a long run of obstacles, SLIP~ons have finally been able to announce their debut EP Heavy Machinery (mixed by Dave Ogalvie of Skinny Puppy fame) with a single and accompanying video for the title track of their new vinyl release. The black and white video (directed and edited by the R.D. Cane, shot by Ryan C. Clark) consists of layers of short montages of the band in rehearsal with heady, swirling edits that play with time and space. Viewers get a frenetic and intimate side stage view of the band rocking, with Shockk's sick guitar solo a climax in the middle of the video. The visual style of the video allows the deep rhythm of the track to shine through, and as director RD states, “It's cool to provide a comfortable playground to let the boys be as comfortable and real as possible.” The video highlights real-time recording of the band to capture the feel of their enigmatic live performances. Reflecting on the video shoot, Brock says, “I've always been a bit iffy on music videos, so we just borrowed some grip gear and lamps from my film buddies and created a bit of a playground in our rehearsal space for RD to do his thing. Jam Space Confidential was the theme. RD was really working up a sweat directing traffic, and I love that you can see the crew moving around with us moving ladders and waving light wands.” The track Heavy Machinery has Pytel's signature gravelly vocals and tongue-in-cheek lyrics that paint a picture of a night out wandering around Vancouver's East Side. The pounding guitars offer grungy, punchy licks with hints of The Pixies and build up to a crescendo that echoes the name of the track. Sparse but poignant gang vocals round out the sound and add an interesting depth to the song. Looking at the EP as a whole, Pytel mentions some early praise it has already garnered: “The mastering engineer, Ronan Chris Murphy, is a dear friend that I've known since the Doughboys played with his band Pumphouse at Rockitz in Richmond, Virginia in the late eighties. He got back to me after I sent him the audio files to work on and said, ‘This might be the best music I have ever heard from you. Good job doin' us old guys proud.'” add SLIP~ons to spotify: https://show.co/EbzcS5Qwatch the video on YouTube Go to BETTERHELP.com/apologue for confidential online counselling.use the code word Apologue for a 7 day free trial Pledge monthly with Patreon https://www.patreon.com/apologueShop Apologue products at http://apologue.ca/shop

This week's RA Podcast marks something of a debut for Infinity Division, the new solo project from Canadian artist Ash Luk, best known as one half of EBM-techno duo Minimal Violence. (Minimal Violence had itself been a solo project since last year, when cofounder Lida P left the group.) Getting his start in Vancouver's punk scene as part of the band Lié, Luk's approach to dance music is informed not only by those origins but by Western Canada's long history with industrial music and techno (spot Skinny Puppy and Tunnel Canary in the tracklist).
Minimal Violence first impressed us with their hardware-focused house and techno, a harder-edged version of the sound that was sweeping Vancouver at the time, before moving on to Ninja Tune sub-label Technicolour and then Tresor for a series of records that saw their sound become more expansive, sharper and more melodic, incorporating not just techno and punk influences but also trance, EBM and more. These are the genres that feed into Infinity Division, and Luk's RA Podcast hurtles through everything from old Prodigy, '90s German hard trance, Canadian breakcore and new tracks from his project. This is heavy dance music that's also heavy on melody, unafraid of huge crescendoes that hit that sweet spot between punishment and euphoria. Buckle up. Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/852
