Justice can be elusive. Family secrets can be deadly. The stakes are high, and the clock is ticking in a volatile criminal case filled with unanswered questions. And Carrington Reed is running short on time to piece together clues that will solve the puzzle. Hostage negotiator Carrington Reed is called to the scene when reports come in that fifteen hostages are being held by the Kendrix brothers in an abandoned house in south Texas. When she arrives on site, Carrington quickly learns that the brothers are armed and refuse to release their victims, a group of undocumented immigrants, until the local police identify their father's murderer. Working closely with Levi Ehrlich, a handsome investigative reporter who has covered some of Carrington's negotiations in the past, she finds herself being undeniably drawn to him. Carrington digs deeper into the death of the Kendrixes' father and begins to notice that some details surrounding his death aren't adding up. As Carrington investigates the brothers' claims and tries to piece together their motive for taking innocent people captive, it soon becomes clear that they are trying to hide something and that revenge for their father's death may not be what they're really bargaining for after all. To protect the hostages and ensure the brothers don't carry out the rest of their sinister plot, Carrington must get to the bottom of one family's secret and the truth they're trying so hard to hide before time runs out. How do you handle hard times? Bestselling romantic suspense author DiAnn Mills says she likes to be challenged as an author. But while writing her latest novel, DiAnn was also challenged personally by a tragedy that is woven throughout the storyline of Facing the Enemy. In this podcast, DiAnn is transparent about how the Lord helped her grow through the experience of grief, sacrifice, unconditional love and determination after the loss of her adopted son. These same themes emerge in her novel about an FBI agent who is filled with guilt over the death of her brother, knowing she was the intended target. For DiAnn, Facing the Enemy is a healing book, but it's also a hopeful one. It is my absolute delight to introduce you to my writing friend DiAnn Mills. I met DiAnn at my very first ACFW in 2005 when I attended one of the workshops on plotting and brainstorming. I have loved her and her books ever since. In this episode, we talk about her upcoming book Facing the Enemy, and how it's a healing book for her because it touches on a tragic experience in her life. More than that, it's an example of her suspense with romance which is set in her hometown of Houston. That launched us into a conversation about how she loves to use setting to create havoc for her main characters and she gives some great examples. She also gives her top 4 writing tips for readers. You'll have to watch to catch them in detail: but they are that you need to read, write, learn, and pray every day. Our courage to embrace God-led risk tends to decrease when we focus on ourselves or our present circumstances. Our courage grows, however, when we focus on Christ and our next step of obedience. In this two-part episode, Jennifer first speaks with prolific suspense writer DiAnn Mills about a time when her husband lost his job then. In the second half of this episode, Jennifer and her husband Stephen discuss a time when the outcome of his obedience did not turn out as they'd hoped, but why, some seventeen years later, they'd now say everything turned out better than they could've imagined. EPISODE 197I Today’s guest is the lovely (https://amzn.to/2zEP9Y0) . The story of that novel coming out now is one of several great ones DiAnn tells during the interview. She starts with the story of how her husband challenged her to stop saying she was going to write a book some day and just do it. She quit her job, studied the how-to books and the bestsellers, and wrote her first book – which was sold and published the next year! So begins how one author started with the end in mind, the idea that this would be her business, and worked to make the dream a reality. The story of how (https://amzn.to/2zEP9Y0) came to be is equally enthralling! The exact sort of people DiAnn needed to talk to in order to research the book kept coming out of the woodwork, giving her heaps of information of the exact kind she needed. Not only that, but at the time the book was ready to be released – something similar was happening around the world! In a scary time, this is a book that can give closure, justice, and hope to readers. DiAnn explains how to seek out the information you need from all kinds of organizations from the FBI to the CDC to the Texas Marshals. She encourages writers to pick up the phone and go right to the source to get the best information. Yes, it can be nerve-wracking to make a cold call, but think about how this is going to make your book so much better. You never know what great relationships will grow from it. In fact, DiAnn encourages listeners to write her and ask her questions. You can find all of her social media links on her https://diannmills.com/ (https://diannmills.com/)
